¡Hola amigos! En el día de hoy les vengo a compartir mi reseña sobre una película que está basada en un libro juvenil que fue bastante famoso en su momento y el año pasado se estrenó su película, pero no la había podido ver hasta ahora. Les estoy hablando de Maravilloso Desastre.

En esta película seguimos la vida de Abby, una joven que intenta alejar su pasado de juegos y apuestas en el que su padre la instruyó desde pequeña, y empezar una vida nueva. Para ello se inscribe en la universidad e intenta tener un perfil bajo y recatado, hasta que conoce a Travis Maddox, otro joven que estudia en la universidad y se gana la vida protagonizando peleas clandestinas. Travis y su estilo de vida es todo de lo que Abby desea mantenerse alejada por su propio bien. Sin embargo, muy pronto se darán cuenta que no pueden estar el uno sin el otro, además de que el pasado de Abby vuelve a golpear a su puerta y deberá hacerle frente si quiere comenzar un nuevo camino. 

In this film we follow the life of Abby, a young woman who tries to leave behind her past of gambling and gambling in which her father instructed her since she was a child, and start a new life. Después de ver esta película quedé entre maravillada y horrorizada a partes iguales, me pareció todo muy absurdo, pero dentro de todo estuvo bastante entretenida. Así que se puede decir que la termine disfrutando, aunque no podía dejar de pensar en lo tonta que fue toda la trama.

After watching this movie I was between amazed and horrified in equal parts, I found everything very absurd, but all in all it was quite entertaining. So you can say that I ended up enjoying it, although I couldn't stop thinking about how silly the whole plot was.

Ambos personajes, tanto Abby como Travis son bastante tóxicos entre sí, pero entre ellos se entienden o eso parece. Sin dudas ella es la chica perfecta para él y viceversa, porque aunque Abby intenta alejarse de su pasado apostador es algo para lo que es muy buena y disfruta hacer, el problema está en que ella todavía es menor de edad entonces es ilegal todo lo que implique juegos de casino. Travis es el típico chico malo y mujeriego que se acuesta con todas hasta que la conoce y decide que ella es diferente al resto. 

Both characters, Abby and Travis are quite toxic to each other, but they understand each other or so it seems. Without a doubt she is the perfect girl for him and vice versa, because although Abby tries to get away from her gambling past it is something she is very good at and enjoys doing, the problem is that she is still underage so anything that involves casino games is illegal. Travis is the typical bad boy and womanizer who sleeps around until he meets her and decides that she is different from the rest.

También está la mejor amiga de Abby, Mer, que está saliendo con el primo de Travis, Shepley. Estos tienen su cuota de toxicidad también, creo que no se salva ninguno en esta película. La verdad es que me sorprendió que hicieran tan bobos a los personajes. Sin dudas es una película enfocada para un publico más adolescente, aunque hay bastantes escenas picantes.  

There's also Abby's best friend, Mer, who is dating Travis' cousin, Shepley. These have their share of toxicity as well, I don't think any of them are spared in this movie. I was actually surprised they made the characters so goofy. Undoubtedly it is a movie focused on a more teenage audience, although there are quite a few racy scenes.

De todos modos, es una película que me entretuvo y me sirvió para desconectar un rato la mente viendo algo bastante absurdo pero efectivo en su propósito. Además, este año se estrenó una segunda parte que quizá termine viendo para saber qué tal lo llevan mis tóxicos favoritos jaja.

Anyway, it's a movie that entertained me and served to disconnect my mind for a while watching something quite absurd but effective in its purpose. Also, a sequel was released this year that I may end up watching to see how my favorite toxic people are doing haha.

These stories, which seem like lies, happen in real life, they are situations that we never thought could happen, but that's what life is all about, it surprises us sometimes in the worst way, it changes our world completely, and then you wonder why this is happening to me.

Recently came out this series called Accident, written by the famous Leonardo Padrón, the truth, I'm not a big fan of his novels and stories, the last one he published, I did not see it, I think only a part, and I was not completely convinced, however, I decided to see this story, it looked interesting, it consists of 10 chapters, but each one of them, shows a part of the human being, which definitely only comes to light when we feel destroyed inside.

Estas historias, que parecen mentiras, sucede en la vida real, son situaciones que jamás pensamos que podían pasar, pero de eso se trata la vida, nos sorprende a veces de la peor manera, nos cambia el mundo por completo, y luego te preguntas, porque me pasa esto a mí.

Hace poco salió esta serie llamada Accidente, escrita por el famoso Leonardo Padrón, la verdad, yo no soy muy fans de sus novelas e historias, la última que saco, no la vi, creo que solo una parte, y no me convenció del todo, sin embargo, decidí ver esta historia, se veía interesante, consta de 10 capítulos, pero cada uno de ellos, muestra una parte del ser humano, que definitivamente, solo sale a la luz, cuando nos sentimos destruidos por dentro.

La historia nos muestra la vida de varias familias, amigos, todos, los cuales se reúnen para celebrar un cumpleaños, pero en esta fiesta, ocurre un trágico accidente, el cual destruirá la armonía de tres familias.

More than a series, it looks like a mini soap opera, with a lot of drama, and a touch of action, to make it a little exciting, that can not be denied, of course it can not escape from the same melodramas we see in soap operas, romance, infidelity, conflicts of interest, among others, this is definitely the boring and tedious part of the series.

I do not deny, it has its moments, however, there were scenes that did not allow you to focus on the real story, the plot related to the accident, they focused on other things, I guess to give it a little longer with the chapters, and then to give it its denouement, an ending, which of course, was not something epic, but acceptable, as far as it goes.

Más que una serie, parece una minitelenovela, con mucho drama, y su toque de acción, para hacerla un poco emocionante, eso no se le puede negar, por supuesto no logra escapar de los mismos melodramas que vemos en las telenovelas, romance, infidelidad, conflictos de intereses, entre otros, definitivamente esta es la parte, aburrida y tediosa de la serie.

No niego, tiene sus momentos, sin embargo, había escenas que no te permitían enfocarte en la historia real, el trama relacionados con el accidente, se enfocaron en otras cosas, supongo que para darle un poco más de larga con los capítulos, y luego poder darle su desenlace, un final, que por supuesto, no fue algo épico, pero aceptable, dentro de lo que cabe.

Human error, as they call it, is one of the worst mistakes, because apart from the fact that you have to live with the guilt, you drag with you your pain, and the pain of others, the damage you caused them, with your simple mistake, especially if it is about ending an innocent life.

Not to mention, another trigger, and is that when there is money involved, there is no friendship that is worth, it can become your worst enemy, not many are willing to let go, to sacrifice, if money is involved, they find it hard to be faithful to that friendship.

Talking a little bit about the characters, each one played their role, maybe some of them lacked to develop their personality, to show more pain for their loss, however, they did the best they could, I think there is no way to act such a big loss, and show the real pain.

Si nos enfocamos un poco en la historia, lo ocurrido en esa fiesta, y ese trágico accidente, fue un hecho, que nadie se podía imaginar que sucedería, pero asi es como se presentan los accidentes, cuando menos lo esperamos, con actos que en el momento no les prestamos atención, y luego vienen las consecuencias.

El error humano, asi lo llaman, es uno de los peores errores, porque aparte de que debes vivir con la culpa, arrastras contigo tu dolor, y el dolor de los demás, el daño que les causaste, con tu simple error, sobre todo si este se trata de acabar con una vida inocente.

Sin dejar de mencionar, otro detonante, y es que cuando hay dinero de por medio, no hay amistad que valga, puede convertirse en tu peor enemigo, no muchos están dispuestos a soltarlo, a sacrificarse, si de dinero se trata, les cuesta ser fieles a esa amistad.

Hablando un poco de los personajes, cada uno represento su papel, quizás algunos les falto desarrollar su personalidad, mostrar más dolor por su perdida, sin embargo, hicieron lo mejor que pudieron, creo que no hay manera de poder actuar una perdida tan grande, y mostrar el verdadero dolor.

It is quite a tragic story, I think they should have focused more on that, as I said, there were scenes, performances that were too much, but well, in itself, the series is not as bad as many criticize, it is not as good as some media say, you can say that something acceptable, with its dramatic, intense, emotional, and challenging part.

Es una historia bastante trágica, creo que debieron enfocarse más en eso, como dije, había escenas, actuaciones que estaban demás, pero bueno, en sí, la serie no es tan mala, como muchos critican, tampoco es tan buena, como dicen algunos medios, se puede decir, que algo aceptable, con su parte dramática, intensa, emotiva, y desafiante.

Si la han visto, díganme que tal les pareció, y si no lo han hecho, pueden hacerlo y ver si es de su agrado, no es la típica series de las que yo estoy acostumbrada a ver, sin embargo, aburrida del todo, no lo es.

It is a story based on the play Incendies from the tetralogy The Blood of Promises by Wajdi Mouawad, which I will review with the spoilers removed so that you can enjoy it in its entirety.

Nawai is a young woman who fell in love with a foreign man and became pregnant, this behavior is reprehensible and cruelly punished in her culture that sees it as a dishonor to the family, to avoid the shame her brothers decide to collect the life of her boyfriend, and she finds herself in danger, but is saved thanks to the intersection of her mother. The beginning of this film reminded me of a case that happened in my country, Venezuela, many years ago, where a father from the same culture murdered his daughter for a similar event.

Returning to the film, Nawai, immersed in sadness, gives birth to her son who is taken from her arms from the moment of his birth and given to an orphanage, but before that she saw him for the last time and noticed that he had a curious mole on the heel of one of his feet, a mark that would help her to recognize him in the future, as she was young she still had a chance to rebuild her life, so her mother decided to send her to study at a distant uncle's house in the city.

Nawai became an excellent student, joining the student newspaper and speaking out against injustice, but at that time civil war broke out, dividing the nation between Catholics and Muslims, opening the way for an exodus. As she had promised to find her son, she returned to her home village, but it was destroyed by bombs and massacres and by the time she reached the orphanage it was too late because all the children had been taken away.

From there this woman began an odyssey to survive and find her firstborn son, she followed the trail for several days and had to camouflage herself between beliefs and pass herself off as a Muslim and other times as a Catholic, in this period she was filled with rage against the system and the leaders who started this war by becoming a spy, Later she assassinated one of the most important leaders and was condemned to the worst women's prison where she was tortured for many years, but they never managed to break her, during this time she became stronger and after being tortured and raped she decided to sing, that's why the film is called the woman who sang.

This woman managed to survive and start again in another country, taking with her her her last children, twins, but the torment of finding her firstborn son was present until the day she had a traumatic encounter, and it was the beginning of the end leaving her speechless, nobody knew Nawai, her story was revealed long after her death when her children decided to fulfil her last wish and discover what was in the missions that their mother left them.

For a film based on a play, I think it has a lot of bits and pieces that could be real, which makes it an impressive film that you can't forget.

This movie was so interesting that it kept me entertained from beginning to end because there was a lot of suspense, even though it was not its genre. There is also drama, history and a bit of gore.

There were scenes so shocking that they took my breath away and I had to pause to reflect, breathe and think about all the terrible things that happen in war, in the name of God and religion, and the atmosphere was so diverse that I felt I was in the territory of the war and the story itself.

And if the ending is unexpected and shocking, I think it is full of positive messages of reconciliation and peace. After seeing this film, I wanted to see this play one day, I was very satisfied and I recommend it to you. It will pull at some heartstrings.

Después de ver esta película me quedé con ganas de encontrarme algún día con esta obra de teatro, quedé muy satisfecha y se la recomiendo. Moverá algunas fibras de su interior.

When we talk about the legacy (so far) of actor Jim Carrey, it is quite easy to make some choices that are a little too obvious (and here I am referring to his most commercial movies, which were critical and / or box office successes). Therefore, I chose to go back in time and talk about a movie that despite not being on the list of his greatest hits, is without a doubt one of his best works. Once Bitten is a comedy classic from the 80s (even if it is a very stereotypical project in essence, and with some “politically incorrect” actions).

In the movies, Carrey plays a teenager named Mark Kendall, who dates the beautiful Robin Pierce (played by Karen Kopins). They study at the same school and are lovers, but even though they have been dating for a long time, they are still virgins. This is the perfect scenario for the vampire named Countess (Lauren Hutton), who needs the blood of a virgin man to continue surviving with her beauty intact over the centuries, take action and get what she wants. However, with a very confused team, she may not be able to get her dream food.

Block Girl Nerds

Fighting against time (she needs to consume the blood before Halloween), Countess then seduces Mark and with that, he begins to have intrusive thoughts about her, paving the way for her to get the blood transfusions she needs (which are three in total). Alongside his girlfriend, Mark then needs to enlist the help of his two best friends (Jamie and Russ, respectively played by the duo Thomas Ballatore and Skip Lackey) to fight against her. A team of actors of laughable quality at the time, but who manage to deliver the comedic proposal of the entire project well.

The movie's script is too simple (as is its low-budget production), but at the same time, it is also a very fun movie that has the typical humor of the 80s. Despite not featuring memorable performances from the cast (which despite having chemistry together, are poorly developed and evoke quite dated jokes, especially for today's society), somehow there is something very interesting and genuine about the whole. The big highlight here is precisely Carrey's performance, who took his initial steps in cinema with his comedies.

MUBI

Howard Storm managed to extract from Carrey a physical (and true) humor rarely seen in comedy movies, and the decisions to pave the comic side in this type of humor (and also in facial humor) were very assertive. Storm had a very efficient directorial eye here, and with the script written by Dimitri Villard, David Hines and Jeffrey Hause, he worked “magic” to create a decent project. It would not be an exaggeration to say that a large part of the positivity in Once Bitten y came from Carrey's talent, who would later become a great reference within the cinematic comic world.

Concurso CineTV: “Mordiscos peligrosos”, los primeros pasos hacia el éxito de Jim Carrey en el cine.

Cuando hablamos del legado (hasta ahora) del actor Jim Carrey, es bastante fácil tomar algunas decisiones un poco obvias (y aquí me refiero a sus películas más comerciales, que fueron éxitos de crítica y / o taquilla). Por eso, opté por retroceder en el tiempo y hablar de una película que a pesar de no estar en la lista de sus grandes éxitos, es sin duda uno de sus mejores trabajos. Mordiscos peligrosos es un clásico de la comedia de los años 80 (aunque es un proyecto muy estereotipado en esencia, y con algunas acciones “políticamente incorrectas”).

En la película, Carrey interpreta a un adolescente llamado Mark Kendall, que sale con la bella Robin Pierce (interpretada por Karen Kopins). Estudian en el mismo colegio y son amantes, pero a pesar de que llevan mucho tiempo saliendo, todavía son vírgenes. Este es el escenario perfecto para la vampira llamada Condesa (Lauren Hutton), quien necesita la sangre de un hombre virgen para seguir sobreviviendo con su belleza intacta a lo largo de los siglos, entrar en acción y conseguir lo que quiere. Sin embargo, con un equipo muy confundido, es posible que no pueda conseguir la comida de sus sueños.

Luchando contra el tiempo (necesita consumir la sangre antes de Halloween), la Condesa luego seduce a Mark y con eso, él comienza a tener pensamientos intrusivos sobre ella, allanando el camino para que ella reciba las transfusiones de sangre que necesita (que son tres en total). Un equipo de actores de calidad irrisoria en su momento, pero que logran entregar bien la propuesta cómica de todo el proyecto.

El guión de la película es demasiado simple (al igual que su producción de bajo presupuesto), pero al mismo tiempo también es una película muy divertida que tiene el humor típico de los 80 a pesar de no contar con actuaciones memorables del elenco (que a pesar de tener. química en conjunto, están poco desarrollados y evocan chistes bastante anticuados, especialmente para la sociedad actual), de alguna manera hay algo muy interesante y genuino en el conjunto. Lo más destacado aquí es precisamente la interpretación de Carrey, que dio sus primeros pasos en el cine con sus comedias.

Howard Storm logró extraer de Carrey un humor físico (y verdadero) rara vez visto en películas de comedia, y las decisiones de pavimentar el lado cómico en este tipo de humor (y también en el humor facial) fueron muy asertivas. Storm tuvo un ojo como director muy eficiente aquí, y con el guión escrito por Dimitri Villard, David Hines y Jeffrey Hause, hizo “magia” para crear un proyecto decente. No sería exagerado decir que gran parte del positivismo de Mordiscos peligrosos provino del talento de Carrey, quien luego se convertiría en un gran referente dentro del mundo del cómic cinematográfico.

Sendo assim, eu escolhi voltar no tempo e falar sobre um filme que apesar de não estar na lista dos maiores sucessos dele, sem dúvidas é um dos seus melhores trabalhos. Procura-se Rapaz Virgem é um clássico da comédia dos anos 80 (mesmo que seja um projeto bastante estereotipado na sua essência, e com algumas ações “politicamente incorretas”).

No filme, Carrey interpreta um adolescente chamado Mark Kendall, que namora a bela Robin Pierce (interpretada por Karen Kopins). Eles estudam na mesma escola e são namorados, mas mesmo já namorando há muito tempo, eles ainda são virgens. Esse é o cenário perfeito para a vampira chamada Condessa (Lauren Hutton), que precisa o sangue de um homem virgem para continuar sobrevivendo com sua beleza intacta ao longo dos séculos, entrar em ação e conseguir o que ela deseja. No entanto, com uma equipe muito atrapalhada, ela pode não conseguir o seu tão sonhado alimento.

Lutando contra o tempo (ela precisa consumir o sangue até do dia do Halloween), Condessa então seduz Mark e com isso, ele começa a ter pensamentos intrusivos com ela, abrindo caminho para que ela consiga as transfusões de sangue que ela precisa (que são três no total). Ao lado da namorada, Mark então precisa contar a ajuda dos seus dois melhores amigos (Jamie e Russ, respectivamente interpretados pela dupla Thomas Ballatore e Skip Lackey) para lutar contra ela. Um time de atores de qualidade risível na época, mas que consegue entregar bem a proposta cômica do projeto inteiro.

O roteiro do filme é simples demais (assim como toda à sua produção de baixo orçamento), mas ao mesmo tempo, é também um filme muito divertido e que tem o humor típico da década dos anos 80. Apesar de não trazer performances memoráveis do elenco (que apesar de ter química juntos, são pobremente desenvolvidos e evocam piadas bastante datadas, em especial para à sociedade atual), de alguma maneira existe algo de muito interessante e genuíno no todo. O grande destaque aqui é justamente a atuação de Carrey, que deu seus passos iniciais no cinema para suas comédias.

Howard Storm conseguiu extrair de Carrey um humor físico (e verdadeiro) raramente visto em filmes de comédia, e as decisões de pavimentar o lado cômico nesse tipo de humor (e também no humor facial) foi muito assertiva. Storm teve um olhar de diretor bastante eficiente aqui, e com o roteiro escrito por Dimitri Villard, David Hines e Jeffrey Hause, ele fez “mágica” para idealizar um projeto decente. Não seria exagero algum afirmar que uma grande parte da positividade de Procura-se Rapaz Virgem veio do talento de Carrey, que futuramente se tornaria uma grande referência dentro do mundo cômico cinematográfico.

These two films have a lot in common besides the genre. I saw Immaculata quite a while ago, it was the first one I saw. It was available in my country and without waiting too long I found the premise quite intriguing.

It is Immaculata that shows the most signs of drinking from the fountainhead of the nunspoitation style, a sub-genre very popular in the seventies. It immediately reminded me of many similar films I used to rent from video stores.

The stories set in old convents, with shadowy nuns and priests, who seem to have other, unholy intentions. Dark secrets among the cassocks. Superior priests who rule with an iron fist. Religious symbolism everywhere. All this is a source of opportunities to develop horror stories. Good and evil inside temples that have been consecrated as sacred depending on one's religion.

This type of film is also characterised by nuns who look like top models. Beautiful. They have spectacular bodies and beautiful faces. In real life I have never seen nuns as beautiful as the ones presented in the movies. And you? We have to accept that this is part of fictional stories. I also think that there is a kind of fetish behind all this. There's a reason why in the shops where they sell intimate toys for adults they always have nun costumes so that couples can role-play. The filmmakers know that this sells and that's why their nun characters in the movies will be beautiful.

Estas dos películas tienen mucho en común además del género. Vi Inmaculada hace bastante tiempo, fue la primera que vi. Estaba disponible en mi país y sin esperar demasiado encontré la premisa bastante intrigante.

Es Inmaculada la que da más muestras de beber de la fuente del estilo nunspoitation, un subgénero muy popular en los años setenta. Me recordó inmediatamente a muchas películas similares que solía alquilar en los videoclubs.

Las historias ambientadas en viejos conventos, con monjas y curas tenebrosos, que parecen tener otras intenciones, impías. Oscuros secretos entre las sotanas. Sacerdotes superiores que gobiernan con puño de hierro. Simbología religiosa por doquier. Todo esto es una fuente de oportunidades para desarrollar historias de horror. El bien y el mal dentro de templos que han sido consagrados como sagrados dependiendo de la religión que uno profese.

Este tipo de películas también se caracteriza por monjas que parecen top models. Hermosas. Tienen cuerpos espectaculares y caras preciosas. En la vida real nunca he visto monjas tan hermosas como las que presentan en las películas. ¿Y usted? Tenemos que aceptar que forma parte de las historias de ficción. También creo que detrás de todo esto hay una especie de fetiche. Por algo en las tiendas donde venden juguetes íntimos para adultos siempre tienen disfraces de monjas para que las parejas puedan hacer juegos de rol. Los cineastas saben que eso vende y por eso sus personajes de monjas en las películas serán hermosos.

Two works of the genre that are among the best I've seen lately. I invite you to look them up on your streaming service and enjoy them. You can do a double session and watch them in one night, but don't do it alone.

Synopsis: After an accident on the high seas, three friends are left adrift waiting for help. They end up being rescued by a fishing boat, and hopes for them to be saved are high, but the mysterious owner of the vessel has other plans for the trio. Something they could never imagine.

Lately, I think Netflix is adding a lot of suspense movies to its catalog of new releases, but the destiny of these projects is to be doomed to failure. The most recent example from the streaming channel is this movie of below-average technical quality, and a script that orbits between the ambition of being something bigger than it really is and the generic factor that delimits it as just another high-potential production, but gets lost along the way.

Filmelier

Kaya and Tessa have been friends since childhood, and they decide to take part in an adventure on the high seas with two other people (Tessa's boyfriend, Julian and his friend, Xander) aboard two jet skis to have fun, and forget some of the real-world problems. On the high seas, a very serious accident ends up happening and they are left adrift. Soon after, three of them are rescued (another is missing) by a fishing vessel captain, who has bad intentions.

Once on Rey's vessel, the trio of friends are about to experience a terrible experience, where there is a terrifying fate waiting for them in the very place that should be the instrument of their salvation. The suspense that embraces the script is genuine (and this is very obvious in some very tense scenes due to the gravity of the situation and also the expressive look of the girls), but the execution of the idea does not offer anything original for the audience to stay involved.

Betting on a narrative approach that finds practically all of its driving force in a construction of suspense due to the dynamics of the escape, the movie becomes lost within its own proposal when it inserts elements of a complexity that is much more difficult to be worked on (and consequently digested within of the main plot) with a relatively short running time. The result of this is that the project's focus goes both ways and doesn't get it right.

The moments of tension exist, and they are genuine (as I mentioned earlier). However, there is no line to be crossed, much less an argumentative constancy in order to instigate the development of other atmospheres to feed the narrative itself. In other words, it is as if the script “goes in circles”, around itself and always showing very similar arguments (even though it manages to keep its secret for a certain time).

Particularly speaking, I wasn't surprised by the villain's motivation, but the “plot twist” is interesting due to the distressing tension it causes. The agony of waiting in so many ways delivers something “tangible” to the viewer, but the script fails to support this idea and ends up opting for very obvious actions (and others that are very stupid) when we talk about the development of both the villain and the protagonists. A pile of poorly worked clichés.

There is no further development of any of the characters, and the cast also does not bring any quality in terms of acting. On the other hand, in its more technical aspect, even though it is somewhat problematic, there is still a very convincing setting in relation to the vessel where most of the movie takes place, giving the project fidelity in more visual terms (unfortunately the same cannot be said about photography and effects).

Prime Video

Written and directed by Phil Volken with a very limited scope, Dead Sea ends up being just another suspense movie with a decent premise, but which fails to take advantage of it due to the obviousness of its own choices (apart from a few exceptions, such as the behavior of the villain in more decisive moments, which is something atypical within this genre, positively breaking some expectations) and due to a lack of more “practical” daring.

CRÍTICA DE PELÍCULA: “Daddio” (2024)

Sinopsis: Tras un accidente en alta mar, tres amigos quedan a la deriva esperando ayuda. Terminan siendo rescatados por un barco pesquero y las esperanzas de que se salven son altas, pero el misterioso propietario del barco tiene otros planes para el trío. Algo que nunca podrían imaginar.

Últimamente creo que Netflix está añadiendo muchas películas de suspense a su catálogo de nuevos estrenos, pero el destino de estos proyectos es estar abocados al fracaso. El ejemplo más reciente del canal de streaming es esta película de una calidad técnica por debajo de la media, y un guión que orbita entre la ambición de ser algo más grande de lo que realmente es y el factor genérico que la delimita como una producción más de alto potencial, pero se pierde en el camino.

Kaya y Tessa son amigas desde la infancia y deciden embarcarse en una aventura en alta mar con otras dos personas (el novio de Tessa, Julian y su amigo, Xander) a bordo de dos motos de agua para divertirse y olvidarse de algunos de los problemas del mundo real. En alta mar acaba sucediendo un gravísimo accidente y quedan a la deriva. Poco después, tres de ellos son rescatados (otro está desaparecido) por el capitán de un barco pesquero, que tiene malas intenciones.

Una vez en el barco de Rey, el trío de amigos está a punto de vivir una experiencia terrible, donde un destino aterrador los espera en el mismo lugar que debería ser el instrumento de su salvación. El suspense que envuelve el guión es genuino (y esto se nota mucho en algunas escenas muy tensas por la gravedad de la situación y también por la mirada expresiva de las chicas), pero la ejecución de la idea no ofrece nada original para el público. para seguir involucrado.

Apostando por un planteamiento narrativo que encuentra prácticamente todo su motor en una construcción de suspense debido a la dinámica de la fuga, la película se pierde dentro de su propia propuesta al insertar elementos de una complejidad mucho más difícil de trabajar. (y en consecuencia digerido dentro de la trama principal) con un tiempo de ejecución relativamente corto. El resultado de esto es que el enfoque del proyecto va en ambos sentidos y no acierta.

Los momentos de tensión existen y son genuinos (como mencioné antes). Sin embargo, no hay línea que cruzar y mucho menos constancia argumentativa para instigar el desarrollo de otras atmósferas que alimenten la propia narrativa. En otras palabras, es como si el guión “dara vueltas”, alrededor de sí mismo y mostrando siempre argumentos muy similares (aunque logra mantener su secreto por un tiempo determinado).

En particular, no me sorprendió la motivación del villano, pero el “giro argumental” es interesante por la tensión angustiosa que provoca. La agonía de la espera entrega de tantas maneras algo “tangible” al espectador, pero el guion no consigue sustentar esta idea y acaba decantándose por acciones muy obvias (y otras muy estúpidas) cuando hablamos del desarrollo tanto de la villano y los protagonistas. Un montón de clichés mal trabajados.

No hay mayor desarrollo de ninguno de los personajes, y el elenco tampoco aporta ninguna calidad en términos de actuación. Por otro lado, en su aspecto más técnico, si bien resulta algo problemático, sigue teniendo una ambientación muy convincente en relación al barco donde se desarrolla la mayor parte de la película, dando fidelidad al proyecto en términos más visuales (lamentablemente lo mismo). No se puede decir lo mismo de la fotografía y los efectos).

Escrita y dirigida por Phil Volken con un alcance muy limitado, Daddio acaba siendo una película más de suspense con una premisa decente, pero que no logra aprovecharla por la obviedad de sus propias elecciones (aparte de algunas excepciones, como el comportamiento del villano en momentos más decisivos, algo atípico en este género, rompiendo positivamente algunas expectativas) y por falta de audacia más “práctica”.

Sinopse: Após um acidente em alto mar, três amigos ficam à deriva esperando por ajuda. Eles acabam sendo resgatados por um barco pesqueiro, e as esperanças deles serem salvos é alta, mas o misterioso dono da embarcação tem outros planos para o trio. Algo que eles nunca poderiam imaginar.

Ultimamente, eu acho que a Netflix está adicionando muitos filmes de suspense no seu catálogo de novidades, mas o destino desses projetos é estarem fadados ao fracasso. O exemplo mais recente do canal de streaming é este filme de qualidade técnica abaixo do mediano, e um roteiro que orbita entre à ambição de ser algo maior do que ele realmente é e o fator genérico que o delimita apenas como uma outra produção de alto potencial, mas que se perde pelo caminho.

O suspense que abraça o roteiro é genuíno (e isso fico muito óbvio em algumas cenas bem tensas pela gravidade da situação e também pelo olhar expressivo das garotas), mas a execução da ideia não oferece nada de original para o público ficar envolvido.

Apostando em uma abordagem narrativa que encontra praticamente toda à sua força motora em uma construção de suspense pela dinâmica da fuga, o filme vai se perdendo dentro da sua própria proposta quando insere elementos de uma complexidade muito mais difícil de ser trabalhada (e consequentemente digerida dentro da trama principal) com um tempo de duração relativamente curto. O resultado disso é que o foco do projeto atira para dois lados e não acerta.

Os momentos de tensão existem, e eles são genuínos (como eu mencionei anteriormente). No entanto, não existe uma linha para ser cruzada, e muito menos uma constância argumentativa afim de instigar um desenvolvimento de outras atmosferas para alimentar a própria narrativa. Escrito e dirigido por Phil Volken com um alcance bastante limitado, Armadilha em Alto Mar acaba sendo apenas outro filme de suspense com uma premissa decente, mas que não consegue tirar vantagem disso pelas obviedades de suas próprias escolhas (salvo algumas exceções, como o comportamento do vilão em momentos mais decisivos, que é algo atípico dentro deste gênero, quebrando positivamente algumas expectativas) e por uma falta de ousaria mais “prática”.

YOLO isn’t just about weight loss or attempting to motivate you to start a journey of one. This is beyond all that. This movie would have different interpretations depending on your understanding of Chinese culture. For some, at level surface this could be seen as something that is just another rom-com motivational film. But for some, this is also a criticism towards a societal problem in China and also offers empowerment towards those who currently undergo difficulties in their life.

YOLO is directed by Jia Ling, a Chinese comedian who also plays the protagonist in this film. She plays as Du Leying, a 30 something woman who rejects pretty much societal pressures and in Chinese culture known as Tang Ping or laying flat.

She is still living with her parents and would only spend her day sleeping. Things changed when she eventually got into conflict with her family members. Once she decided to move out on her own, she got to meet a man named Hao Kun, a boxing coach from the gym next to Leying’s new workplace. From their encounter, although Leying was at first taken advantage of by Hao Kun, she eventually picked up working out.

One day, because of sexual harassment at her workplace, she agrees to star at a job show where her cousin was one of the producers. It went bad because the crowd was booing at her and she eventually got an anxiety attack and fell down. As she pretended to faint, she overheard her cousin talking bad about her and telling her friend that they are not related at all. She eventually goes home, decided to kill herself but it fails. She survived. She cried until the next morning and eventually found the same pamphlet from the gym next door where it said, “ Have you ever won once?” From there, she went through a journey to change her life as it was her turning point and decided to start training for boxing.

This movie garnered sensation not only because of the whole story but because the director and actress, Jia Ling, didn’t use any suit to fake being overweight. For the role, she gained up to 126 kg and lost 50kg within a year. She lays out all of her meal plan over SCMP how YOLO actress-director shed more than 50kg through a 2-week diet cycle and intermittent fasting. From the movie, she showed how hard she worked hard for it to lose all the weight for her role.

The character of Du Leying itself can be pretty relatable for someone who undergoes a dark moment in their life. It was like a love letter from Jia Ling that you can do it too, everything takes time and there is still hope. Perhaps your kind of battle is different and this movie wants to remind you that if you feel like you have never won once, try your hardest to win the battle with yourself. Afterall, it really isn’t about you against the culture, the people around you, but sometimes it really is just against yourself and your own mind.

In my opinion, this film was pretty okay. I got interested in Jia Ling’s story and how she lost weight. I sympathize with her journey because I am going through the same thing. Working out is hard and everything about attempting to lose weight is hard. It’s not just about the scale but also the war with our minds. This is where consistency pays off and truly, she reminded us about having just a single goal that makes us persevere even during tough exercise.

Perhaps, I would really recommend this film to anyone looking for a motivational film but also an easy-film to watch. This film will help you remember that we need a goal to live, whatever that is and if you’re isolating yourself, go outside and socialize. Perhaps you will find something new, a new goal and even new beginnings.
