Special Ops is a army/terrorism related drama I have been watching, there are tv series that I use to fill in time when I don't have anything else to watch and this does not mean they are bad, some times it also depends on the time that I manage, there is so much content out there that anyone with a job a family cant keep up on a daily bases. Special Ops finish its first season with a score of 7.7/10 on IMDB, that's a great accomplishment for a series that didn't have that much of advertisement online in my opinion, similar to Citadel who ended up with a lower score but for different reasons.

The series starts hard with a lot of action but moving into the second and third episodes its partial action and more drama, I think this is mainly because the job of Cruz, the women above; is to infiltrate Aaliyah Amrohi daughter of a high profile terrorist that everyone believe is a ghost, on the side there is Joe who lead the Lioness programs with problems of her own at home with her kids and husband who barely see them because of her line of work, she constantly have to travel around the world and can't tell or give details about her job, everything is top secret.

The two main characters Joe (Zoe Saldana) and Cruz Manuelos (Laysla De Oliveira) in my opinion had done a great job, I have seen a few comments online saying their acting is weak but this is just probably people expecting more action from the series considering is terrorism war related, consider this is not a field series this is espionage/undercover also its more oriented to a undercover women trying to infiltrate another women so its obvious we will see girly stuff scene, keep expectations to the ground.

Fucking monday, thats what this episode is about, a shit storm that is coming towards Joe, it all starts by helping another agent who knows about her operation, his name is Kyle and his specialty is Drug Cartels, he needs to do an extraction, one of his informers got caught and he needs to take him out of custody before they transport him to jail, if that happens he is a dead men and most likely will snitch on Kyle revealing all his operation. There has to be some relationship between him and Joe since she accept to give him three agents for 48 hours to get this job done, she must really trust him.

On the Cruz side of things, she arrives to Laysla place, got no clue what to talk about, who their friends are, if she is in danger or not, security is tight as fuck but the guys were smart enough to hide all mics on her, the way Joe tries to get Cruz blend in is a bit different than the "traditional" strategy we see on movies where agents get a full debrief of the target before they move in, Cruz doesn't because Joe wants it to be natural as possible to really make it work.

At an episode three is normal for new characters to pop up, specially when this series is still moving very slow, there still five episodes to go, Laysla start to introduce all her friends to Cruz, they running a mini Melrose Place thing, for all the OGs; where all her three friends have slept with two men and take turns depending on how drunk they are, the other two men are friends with Laysla too, one is her fiance cousin, Nala, Malika and Nashwa, the most friendly is Nala who I think in the future will have to do with Cruz, idk.

If you have seen my previous two post, remember how Joe put Cruz through the grinder, beat the hell out of her at a ops base? well she is all fucked up and Laysla made a big deal out of it because she knows some one abuse Cruz, calls a doctor to have her check, the entire drama, Cruz cover almost got blown out by the Doctor but she manage to put on a sad face with tears about to pop so he believe her the "abuse" from her boyfriend is over so she can move on, bit intense scene but it was obvious nothing was going to happen, it is just too early on the series, good guys cant die yet.

Joe problems, not only Kyle ask to borrow some of her guys, not only Joe almost blown Cruz cover because she didn't need to put Cruz on a grinder to find out if she really breaks or not, everybody does at some point; she finds her daughter Kate at home making out, when she ask her husband wtf was suppose to be that he answers back "top only...pants stay on, sacrifice top to keep the bottom safe" LOL that was fkn funny, her daughter Kate is full teenage savage mode always arguing with Joe about how she is never there for them and comes back home pretending to be parent, its a valid point when she has no idea what's her mom job and that's something Joe has to live and deal with.

Moving forward, the three most action junky agents from Joe group accept to work on this mission she ask for volunteers without knowing wtf it was about until they were on the truck with Kyle and start to ask questions, Kyle is against the wall on this mission, is from zero to hero or his entire operations goes belly up, he is in desperate mode and everything has to go through flawless, plan is to intercept the transport, use an EMP to shut down cameras and so they can jump in and take his informant, simple right? at this point in time Two Cups, Tucker and Tex (Joe's agents) want to think over what they are about to commit when its just too late, they already aboard, no way back out.

Things didn't go as smooth as planned, they did get the informer back but Drug Cartel members were already after him and try to front run Kyle so the only thing they achieve was to keep him alive, informer cover has been blown and is worthless for Kyle, Two Cup and Trucker and to put up some work to get rid of the Cartel goons, their main problem is that this job was suppose to be clean as fuck but when you have more than two car wrecks and half a dozen bodies some one is going to dig deep enough to figure out who did all this mess.

After the entire bruises drama, Cruz got invited by Laysla to party without knowing here until she finds herself inside a private jet where the team cant probably listen to her anymore and also might become hard to track her so they now are in a rush to get close to Cruz again as soon as possible, Cruz did manage to read the plane plate before they were gone so Joe can find out where the plain was going.

As you can tell this is not a series you need to expect a lot of shooting and constant action scenes, yes first episode probably sold the series like that, they open up with massive attack to the US Army base, a fucking warthog going down on the terrorist it was insane but this episode specially was very slow, bit of action towards the end with the extraction but the series is more about the drama, the suspense of how deep can Cruz gets into Laysla family, they trying to attend the weeding with the hope that Laysla father will be present, Cruz orders are to kill him the moment she gets in contact with him, I don't know how is that going to happen, are there thing to be consider like Cruz safety or does she has to go kamikaze on Laysla's father?

En el mundo del cine, las expectativas es algo que no se puede evitar; parece que necesitamos que una producción cinematográfica o de TV, sea la respuesta a lo que esperemos ver, algo muy normal, pero la mayoría de veces somos víctimas de un producto que nos saben vender y cuando lo obtenemos es que se presenta el sentimiento de decepción; es por eso que en muchas ocasiones aconsejo no ver teaser o trailers de una película que en realidad quieren ver, también el tener un breve conocimiento o si confían en algún crítico, tomar esa opinión la cual puede prepararlos para la opinión que tendrán después de ver dicha producción y justamente todo eso es lo he practicado en un film que quería ver, tuve mis expectativas bajas y en dónde mi interés o expectativas, estaban dirigidas en una historia de ciencia-ficción.

Regreso nuevamente al tema de las expectativas porque aparte de querer apreciar una historia de ciencia-ficción, quería presenciar el trabajo del director Gareth Edwards, a quien aprecio su trabajo en "Godzilla" (2014) y en "Rogue One" (2016), justamente ese último film del universo de Star Wars, se nota su influencia en lo que sucede en este nuevo flim, me refiero a la historia y por supuesto en diferentes escenas a desarrollar; Edwards sabe tomar provecho del poco presupuesto del film y crea escenografías relevantes; existe muy buenas tomas en diferentes lugares, puede ser en una ciudad llena de edificaciones o en lugares en donde se aprecia la tranquilidad de una playa, o poblados rodeados de montañas o de sembradíos; creo que es un director muy detallista, saca mucho provecho de las escenas realizadas de CGI las cuales funcionan muy bien al momento de filmar las breves, pero necesarias escenas de acción.

Con respecto al guion escrito por Edwards y Chris Weitz, ambos escribieron la típica historia de usar una guerra, en este caso ficticia, para crear una crítica real sobre lo que ocasiona el estar o vivir en una guerra; ese tema es sumamente importante para el desarrollo de este film, es lo que origina todo motivo en el relato de varios de los personajes y en mi opinión, está muy bien presentado porque no trata de justificar los actos que realizan los personajes, sino que brinda un tipo explicación de los muchos motivos, los cuales pueden cambiar mientras va transcurriendo la historia; el otro tema del film y del cual tenía expectativas era sobre que trato se le daría al género de ciencia-ficción, debo decir que me gustó la influencia de "Animatrix", de las ambas películas de "Blade Runner", "Westworld" (TV series) y por supuesto de Star Wars; posiblemente esto sea algo considerado poco original, pero creo que es un buen trabajo en usar cada una de estas producciones para nuevamente contar nuevamente la historia sobre la revelación de una especie contra sus creadores, sobre el miedo, el enfrentamiento, evolución, revolución y por supuesto la búsqueda de paz.

Regarding the screenplay written by Edwards and Chris Weitz, both wrote the typical story of using a war, in this case fictional, to create a real critique of what it is like to be or live in a war; that theme is extremely important for the development of this film, it is what originates every motive in the story of several of the characters and in my opinion, it is very well presented because it does not try to justify the acts that the characters perform, but it gives a kind of explanation of the many motives, which can change as the story goes on; the other theme of the film and of which I had expectations was about the treatment of the sci-fi genre, I must say that I liked the influence of "Animatrix", both "Blade Runner" movies, "Westworld" (TV series) and of course Star Wars; possibly this is something considered unoriginal, but I think it is a good job in using each of these productions to retell the story about the revelation of a species against its creators, about fear, confrontation, evolution, revolution and of course the search for peace.

El que considero como punto negativo del film es la actuación de John David Washington como "Joshua Taylor"; del cual esperaba que el momento en dónde su personaje está completamente perdido, sin motivo en la vida y al tener una pequeña esperanza de recuperar lo que ya no tiene, eso lo convierte en alguien insensible y egoísta, imagino que esa era la idea implementada en el guion, pero que lamentablemente Washington no interpreta de una manera satisfactoria o completa, aunque su rol se hace más aceptable gracias a la actuación de la joven actriz, Madeleine Yuna Voyles, quien interpreta a "Alphie", con sus breves diálogos en el segundo acto y su mayor participación en el tercer y final acto del film, hace que Washington mejore. A pesar de también ser una historia de un protector que se convierte en una figura paternal para su protegida, creo que no debió existir drama, algo mejor Interpretado, posiblemente ese fallo no solamente caiga en el actor, sino también en la dirección y guion.

The Creator cumplió con las pocas expectativas que tenía, eso en referencia al trabajo de dirección y como historia de ciencia-ficción, pero aparte de eso, me gustó el manejó del tema referente como la guerra puede cambiar la vida a personas que de manera voluntaria o involuntaria son involucrados o afectados, en eso me pareció algo muy bien realizado, bien escrito y desarrollado en este film, nos muestra el egoísmo, la falta de escrúpulos al momento de usar a quien sea para cumplir un objetivo, el círculo vicioso que genera cada vez más odio y también el uso (repetido) del tema en dónde el hombre tiene la necesidad de ser Dios, de crear algo para después deciden convertirlo en un arma y a pesar de ser una historia de ciencia-ficción, es tan real el asunto de tener algo nuevo para amenazar, oprimir y demostrar poder; este es un film con un relato anti-guerra, pro evolución para bien, del buen uso de la inteligencia artificial; buenos temas que son desarrollos en este film muy influenciado por otras producciones dentro del género y que posiblemente se esperaba algo más impactante con respecto a la acción y creo que es una de las grandes decepciones que ha presentado en el público al verla; yo, en cambio, disfrute de este film el cual estoy de acuerdo que pudo ser mejor, pero no lo considero que sea un proyecto fallido y a pesar de tener un cierre, no tengo duda que tiene el potencial para convertirse en una franquicia, tener más producciones para seguir el relato de esta historia.

Andrea Di Stefano es el encargado de dirigir y escribir el guión. No inventa nada nuevo, la historia no es nada novedosa, sigue las reglas de un drama criminal como tantos otros, pero es en la puesta en escena donde el cineasta destaca. Cumple con el objetivo. Situarnos durante la última noche antes de la jubilación del policía Franco Amore.

Además, el cineasta tiene una gran experiencia como actor, algo que ayuda mucho a la hora de dirigir actores y poder guiarlos y sacar todo su potencial. Cuando consigues que el reparto saque todo su potencial, influye mucho en el resultado final del producto.

Me gusta la evolución de Di Stefano como director. Ya lo dije cuando escribí sobre la película El informador (leer aquí), que también era una historia parecida a otras, pero que captaba la atención del espectador con buenos resultados. Ahora nos presenta su obra más madura.

Seguir las normas. Ser honrado en un sistema podrido. Ganarse la vida honradamente sin meterse en problemas. Así piensa el protagonista Franco Amore, un detective de policía de MIlan que se cree comisario de policía, pero quizá por ser un policía honrado, el mismo sistema le impide llegar a lo más alto.

Actualmente está casado con Viviana, una bella mujer más joven que él. La hija de su anterior matrimonio estudia en el extranjero. Para ganar más dinero hace trabajos de escolta para Cosimo, el primo de su mujer, que se dedica a negocios turbios, pero Franco sigue sus reglas, nada de armas ni drogas.

La historia se centra en la última noche antes de retirarse. Aunque un flashback nos mostrará lo que ocurre los diez días anteriores a esa noche. Esa forma de contarlo, aporta diferentes puntos de vista de algunos acontecimientos a través de diferentes personajes. Esto me ha gustado mucho, así como una secuencia de traslado contagiosa, que será el punto de ruptura, donde todo se va al carajo. En todo buen thriller policial, siempre hay ese momento en el que los planes no salen como uno quiere y todo se tuerce, llevando al protagonista a vivir momentos de tensión con situaciones que le llevan al límite.

Corrupción policial y mafia. El dinero. Todo gira en torno al dinero. Creo que actualmente el ser humano está centrado en el dinero. La vida de todos gira en torno a eso. Buscar esa cosa tan preciada que nos permite sobrevivir es lo que mete en problemas a mucha gente. Nunca se está satisfecho, siempre se quiere más. Franco Amore no hace daño a nadie, ni siquiera ha matado a nadie en toda su carrera como policía, pero su vida cambiará la noche antes de su jubilación.

The other possible solution (but which would be a little more challenging, especially for the screenwriters) would be to work on a retroactive continuation, for example, making a sequel considering only the events of the first three that form the original trilogy. Reflexiones sobre el futuro desconocido de la franquicia Scream.

Creada por el dúo Kevin Williamson (guionista) y Wes Craven (director), Scream se estrenó en cines de todo el mundo en 1996. Llegando con la promesa de “reformular” un subgénero conocido como slasher, lo hizo con total maestría. Lleno de argumentos característicamente metalingüísticos y de un universo muy llamativo y violentamente sangriento, el cine ha asistido al renacimiento de uno de los subgéneros de terror más creativos de las últimas décadas.

A lo largo de su construcción como franquicia, entre altibajos, Scream logró consolidarse como un producto fácilmente reinventable y con un atractivo más popular para audiencias de diferentes edades e intereses cinematográficos. Éste es un mérito a destacar (además de una calidad evidente en las películas, que incluso en sus momentos más problemáticos dan buenas justificaciones para seguir existiendo) y muy reconocido.

Económicamente muy rentable, esta franquicia no tenía motivos para ser archivada o cancelada, al menos no hasta el despido injustificado de uno de sus nuevos protagonistas. Melissa Barrera fue acusada abiertamente por el estudio Spyglass (que actualmente es el productor encargado de estrenar las nuevas películas de la franquicia) de antisemitismo al adoptar una postura pro palestina y, según ellos, incitar a un “discurso de odio” en las redes sociales. Caos injustificable.

Después de eso, otro protagonista también abandonó oficialmente el proyecto... Pero por otra razón. Esta vez es Jenna Ortega. El comunicado "oficial" dice que no puede participar en Scream 7 debido a "conflictos de programación". Todo el mundo sabe (o debería saber) que esto es sólo una especie de contención de daños realizada por el estudio para evitar más controversia en torno a todo este lío. Esto no está funcionando y el futuro de la franquicia está bastante amenazado.

Como fan incondicional de esta franquicia, después de todos estos acontecimientos inesperados, sólo veo precisamente dos salidas para que exista esta próxima película. Teniendo en cuenta que el nuevo arco de protagonismo en torno a las hermanas Carpenter probablemente ya no se producirá, la solución a corto plazo sería traer de vuelta (por mucho dinero que cueste) a Neve Campbell, después de todo, ella sigue siendo el nombre principal detrás de esta franquicia. .

Repleto de argumentos caracteristicamente metalinguísticos e um universo violentamente sangrento muito marcante, o cinema testemunhou o renascimento de um dos subgêneros mais criativos do horror de décadas passadas.

Ao longo de sua construção enquanto franquia, entre altos e baixos, Pânico conseguiu se estabelecer como um produto de fácil reinvenção e com um apelo mais popular perante ao público com faixas de idades e interesses cinematográficos diferentes. Isso é um mérito que precisa ser destacado (além de uma evidente qualidade nos filmes, que até mesmo em seus momentos mais problemáticos, entregam boas justificativas para continuarem a existir) e muito reconhecido.

Financeiramente muito lucrativa, essa franquia não tinha à menor razão para ser engavetada ou cancelada, pelo menos não até a injusta demissão de uma das suas novas protagonistas. Melissa Barrera foi abertamente acusada pelo estúdio Spyglass (que é atual produtora responsável pelos lançamentos dos novos filmes da franquia) de antissemitismo ao ter um posicionamento pró-palestina e, segundo eles, incitar “discursos de ódio” nas mídias sociais. Um caos injustificável.

Enquanto um fã incondicional dessa franquia, após todos esses acontecimentos inesperados, eu só consigo enxergar precisamente duas saídas para que esse próximo filme possa existir. Considerando que o novo arco de protagonismo em torno das irmãs Carpenter provavelmente não irá mais acontecer, a solução a curto prazo seria trazer de volta (seja lá quanto dinheiro isso vai custar) Neve Campbell, afinal de contas, ela ainda é o nome principal por trás desta franquia.

A outra solução possível (mas que seria um pouco mais desafiadora, especialmente para os roteiristas) seria trabalhar em uma continuação retroativa, por exemplo, fazendo alguma sequência considerando apenas os acontecimentos dos três primeiros que formam à trilogia original. Essa segunda opção me parece ser algo menos improvável de acontecer, mas funcionaria bem caso seja algo bem desenvolvido. De uma maneira ou de outra, é muito triste ver isso acontecer.

Season four rotates around the asteroid they failed to drag to Mars on the first episode but there is more to the asteroid, this is probably the story that will make season four more interesting rather than been just about a space tv series and its how hard life is on Mars specially now that they are starting to build and maintain an infrastructure.

Since the trailer I had that feeling that Miles was probably going to be the star of the show and also a pain in the ass for some at Happy Valey, you obviously got all the space colony story as the main pipe and then branches that develop around it like Miles, Kelly, Aleida, Margo, this other side stories are starting to take shape with Kelly and Aleida potentially teaming, for Aleida looking for a purpose to keep pushing her career as an engineer since she cant stand been at NASA anymore after the bombing and Kelly project open the door for a new opportunity and Margo almost a prisoner at Russia has a lot more to develop and it would not be strange if we see her take more participation at the Russia Space Program under extreme circumstances she gets that call to go work with them meaning she will work with NASA at some point, second attempt to drag the meteoroid to Mars will take a few episodes and its going to be an intense one, they will need their most experience people working on that plus I remember on the trailer Aleida told Dev they just found the biggest asteroid ever so I wonder when will she start to work with Dev??

Episode four is not about Edwin or Danielle, actually there is very little they do during this episode. I have to mention at times I really don't like their make up, that age makeup is bad, its not convincing at all plus their cringe looks and smiles I just hate it but for some people might be iconic and just stick, just my opinion on that. Danielle does go to Mars to get things together and in fact Eli was not wrong, Edwin has been doing a shitty job at Happy Valley, he might bee a talented pilot but when it comes to manage a crew in this case as big as Happy Valley is, he is doing things so wrong, make those who work and maintain the base so shitty with things like food, facilities, even internet bandwidth.

Season Four Mr. Miles Dale hits the wall the moment he gets his first instructions, he was hired to be a fuel tech, working on the surface, but now with the asteroid project on hold they don't have a place for most of the workers that were suppose to be on that project, this doesn't necessarily puts him out of job but eventually becomes a problem latter on.

Miles instantly finds out life at Happy Valley is very shitty, things not working for weeks and management doesn't do shit about it when he and others do have to maintain and repair things for others around the base, he can't get any emails or videos from his wife and girls since bandwidth is capped with them on the short side of the rope, food is expensive and shitty and since he is not working the position he was hired for he has been relocated leaving him at a job position that is less profitable, he is now making less money than he was doing on Earth, Miles does have a record of not generating enough income to sustain his family and the reason for his marriage to be next to the end, going to Mars was a last resource to get things back together but this situation gets him to the edge of the cliff.

At least Miles makes a few new friends that are in the same situation financially but have enough time at Happy Valley that they have learn how to survive and make the entire situation work for them, Samantha on the left who was friends with Tom who died on the first episode, she is on a more similar situation to Miles since her husband divorce her when she went to Mars, lost a friend at the base already and is financially struggling so its like she has no other place to go, with nothing left at Earth she could easy stay at Mars for ever if you think about it, after all that's the idea to start a colony at a new planet so for some of the them going back to Earth makes no sense.

Miles roommates show him how to forget his troubles at Mars, Ilya runs an undercover bar where he makes Vodka and runs his smuggling operation, selling better quality items than what the base sell to the workers, one of the reasons Miles is making less money is because he has to pay for everything at the base too, including uniform and other items provided by the base, some of them very basics in terms of quality so Ilya has find a way to bring better quality items form Earth and sell them to the rest of the workers running a highly profitable operation.

Besides the Miles story the only other thing that I found interesting is how Kelly has work for months developing a robot to find micro bacteria in Mars, this would help them find places where life was or is and there they can start research how to make Mars a more pleasant and sustainable planet rather than living inside a can with the rest of the planet outside, at the moment they only have two things in favor and that's gravity and land but Mars lacks all the other qualities of Earth like breathable air, water, plants, that's why Kelly research is so important but its put on hold because all resources are into the asteroid project.

Not a AAA episode but was still good, I give it a 7/10, the Miles story is not hard to figure out how it will develop, its a funny template that I have seen many other times on other TV series and movies, he is not a trouble maker although is a rebel a free soul, he can be instruct what to do but when things do go on his favor he will fight back and find a way to make things work out for him and that is exactly what is going to happen, on episode two after he face the problem that he cant communicate with his family and is been under pay of what he was promise intermediately raise his concern with superiors who didn't listen to him, its just a matter of time before he starts to look a way out of this situation, lucky him the satellite that handles the comms got fix by Danielle orders because Edwin would never fix it, he had other priorities and since only workers were affected and not higher management talking pilots, engineers, cosmonauts, he was OK with it but Danielle did notice this could affect the base emotionally, Danielle is a better leader than Edwin, he is just a great pilot but has no idea how to manage a crew and not in the long run like he has been doing staying at Mars for two years.

Episode two was not necessary slow but we didn't get any of the space action, I don't think there will be any with the asteroid project still on hold, probably just simulations or testing on how to get that project done and for the next two episodes we will see side stories like the ones I mention develop more, Kelly and Aleida finish the episode with the intention to look for private funding for Kelly project and Margo seem to be arrested at Russia but not much details about it on this episode, still very entertaining, when you watch a TV series this good, slow episodes are just fine and are usually a solid 7, still good enough.

O elenco de apoio também revigora a qualidade de muitas situações.

O grande “problema” de Napoleão, é que o filme em si acaba se tornando lento demais considerando todos os outros aspectos que poderiam ter sido mostrados nessa “reconstrução” histórica. Até mesmo quando tenta inserir algum tipo de humor (como por exemplo, mencionar à baixa estatura do protagonista), o roteiro já está tão estendido, que a piada não traz o efeito esperado. No entanto, Ridley Scott é um diretor à moda antiga, e como tal, soube entregar um projeto com bastante qualidade (inclusive técnicas, com um destaque para a fotografia, o figurino e a trilha sonora, que são muito bem pensados e vibrantes).

Definitivamente las mejores películas son las que te encuentras cuando menos te lo esperas, nada mejor que revisar las redes sociales, ver un meme donde mencionan que la película es una joya y si la porta te llama la atención, te da por verla, aunque siendo sincero ciertamente o puede salir bien o puede salir mal, al fin y al cabo no todos tenemos los mismos gustos pero en este caso resultó bastante bien la verdad. No sé si definir esto como una película de héroes porque sinceramente no encaja bien en esa categoría, es más bien diferente pero está relacionado al final de cuentas, hay poderes de por medio que es lo importante, el otro aspecto que destaca mucho es que se decidió usar el formato de metraje encontrado tan típico de las películas de terror en algo que no tiene para nada que ver en dicho género, muy curioso y bastante bien logrado si les soy sincero. The series is not perfect, there are a few characters that I don't like too much but I have come to the conclusion that some times that's how it is suppose to be, when an actor makes you feel certain way because of his/her character and not because of their acting itself then this means its working and in this case it's Kate and Kentaro, both daughter and son of the disappeared Hiroshi Randa who has been studying all this monsters, this too kids some times get my nerves, both annoying and always arguing like teenagers.

Monarch so far does a great job a resembling to the predecessor movies Skull Island, Godzilla (2014) and we still haven't seen much related to King of the Monsters and that's fine because I think when the series get to that point its show time, full blown Goji ready to destroy.

Episode one opens up strong with Bill Randa at Skull Island, this was either a part of the original movie that was not shown or a second tour to the island, he is recording himself, asking someone to forgive him but I'm not sure who is he referring too although it will be useful for the future in the series. Bill is running away from a giant spider that was seen on the Skull Island movie but this time it is trying to eat him probably or at least kill him and when he is at a dead end on a cliff throws a bag with his recordings to the ocean, right after that another monster shows up, giant Crab stands up from the ground to fight the spider and Bill gets away, I think this was a perfect opening scene, you got a monster fight, one monster that was never seen and brings a characters from the monster verse movies.

As any other first episode its time to present all different main characters and provide context, meaning to their stories, on the image above Kate, a women who her father "died" or disappear, at this point she and her mom are not sure what happen, looking for answers she goes to Tokyo after finding a set of keys to an apartment and probably documentation that tells her about her father apartment in Tokyo.

OG Godzilla story starts in Japan so what a great detail to the series without trying to make it so American, the story at first feels like there is a lot going on and you just got drop in the middle, trying to figure out who is who and what is what but its not complicated, Godzilla at this point in time has appear a few times and already attack San Francisco in the US, that's reference to Godzilla (2014), Japan is now heavily loaded with weapons against a possible attack, would be ridiculous seen that many missile turrets around the city.

Kate gets to her fathers apartment to figure out he had a second wife and son that no body in the US knew about, there is confusion all over the scene but this is the part that annoys me, how Kate and Kentaro fight about their father, both in a position that one of the is lying instead of trying to figure things out.

Kentaro and his mother Emiko cools down but Kate is just a spoiled brat and kept acting like a bitch about her father cheating trying to make Kentaro and Emiko like he is a bastard, that sux and is very shitty from her. Emiko is a sweet women, very patient, before Kate left to the airport an alarm sound off, possible Godzilla attack and everyone ran into the subterranean, Kentaro and Emiko help Kate to cool down and at that moment when she felt vulnerable and supported my Emiko she cools down and lower her guard.

To clear things out and find out exactly what their father was up to, Kentaro takes Kate to his father office, where they kept arguing because Kate is still bitching about her father secret life, they found a safe in the wall with a bunch of recordings and there is when the adventure to figure out what their father work with and potentially what happen to him but they need help to read all this very old data.

May steps up to the scene, she is Kentaro ex girlfriend that for some reason he dump, she is a sweet heart too, I like her, May is very good with computers and after some more arguing with Kentaro she agrees to help them because of him and because she is curious about the story behind this documents.

May manage to read the data that is encrypted, but it seems that part of the encryption work against a remote server that authenticates or decompress the data some how, because the minute she starts reading all this data an alarm is set off at Monarch that gets to Tim who work for Monarch and is very interested to know who is working with this documents that seem to be lost and they want them back badly.

Finally the pioneers of MONARCH, from left to right, Dr. Keiko Miura, Lee Shaw and Bill Randa, they story goes back and forward through their time lines making reference to younger versions of Bill and Lee.

Same as Godzilla all this monsters feed from radiation, they are after a location that has high radiation readings that come and goo like there is a radioactive material but something is feeding from it creating all this peak readings, they get to what seems to be an old power plant that must had a core and they did find what they were looking for, MUTO (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism) a term they came up with for some of this monsters, a category.

This is where the episodes gets intense, Keiko was very talented and brave, she volunteer to go down where all this glowing eggs are to take genetic samples, Lee seem to be in charge of their security that Keiko and Bill doesn't seem to care that much , their passion for the science blinds their judgement exposing them to high risk specially Keiko. Lee and Keiko go down but the place seem to be very unstable and after just a few minutes of walking the surface where the eggs are the place start to crumble and go down, I have a theory that what ever monster that lay down the eggs felt them and was coming making the place shake, monsters that look like insects, look like cockroach, start to run towards Lee and Keiko, that's how we get to the cover image were Keiko is trying to climb back but the insects got to her, Bill was pulling her up but could not hold the rope, there was too much weight after the insects got her and she falls down.

Working with two time lines gives the series the ability to recreate multiple scenes that sparks that rush of dopamine and then slow things down again, in the case of episode one you have attack at Skull Island with Bill running for his life, the Godzilla attack in San Francisco and at the end the scene where all this insects end up killing Keiko, well I assume she is dead. My point is that its not a boring constant story trying to only figure things out as they go, allowing the series to always have two or three action scenes per episode, at least that's my expectation.

So far as I mention above the monsters scenes have been as expected, nothing ridiculous, they are not going to give you a big Godzilla fight on the first episodes, probably we get one or even two big fights on season one but so far so good in that department, the story behind the disappearance of Hiroshi seems very interesting also making sense with the movies that back it up, I give episode one a 8/10 because it was very entertaining and had bits of all the movies and the story behind them but this series is not GOT or The Rings of Power so giving it a 10 is very hard for me, Monarch is delivering everything I expected from it and I'm glad not everything was shown on the trailer.

In a world where love, struggle, and perseverance are overly romanticized, Third World Romance wraps you with its endearing love story and a backdrop of everyday, blue collar, Filipino culture and lives without attempting to romanticized it. Don’t worry, you do not need to have a PhD in culture studies to enjoy this film or even understand tagalog. You can really watch it as is with subtitle.Directed by Dwein Ruedas Baltaazar with the cast of Carlo Aquino playing as Alvin who grew up in a modern family setting and works as a “bagger” at a supermarket & Charlie Dizon as Britney or Bree , a mid 20 something who tries to find a job so that she could bring her mom back home to the Philippine. This romantic, drama film is also attempting to carry some messages but one that I would highlight is “pinakaimportante, pinakasimple pero mahirap, ‘yong maging masaya”which means, “𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙙𝙞𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙮.

While at first I was not convinced because of the first scene where both of them coincidentally meet each other during rain and I had no idea what was going on. However, after putting it off a few days, I eventually brace myself watching it. Compared to Thai film, I know little about the Philippine film industry other than they like remaking K-dramas and over the top drama. This one proved otherwise and serves as a gateway for me to check out more films made by Filipino directors.

The movie tells the story of Britney or Bree (Charlie Dizon) and Alvin (Carlo aquino) who first stumbled upon each other during a queue of government aid. They both ended up stealing the package because Bree thinks that everyone deserves it as they all pay taxes through either buying from a mall or eating at jollibee. It is set briefly post-pandemic and tells a struggle not only between Bree and Alvin but also the people around them. Bree’s mother worked overseas but since Covid, she lost her job and it is her ultimate goal to bring her back home instead of being stuck overseas. While the employment opening remains low, the meeting with Alvin opens up an opportunity. Alvin who currently works as a bagger,someone who bags groceries at the supermarket eventually helped Bree get a job at the supermarket. As their relationship grew closer, there was conflict looming between them that could challenge their relationship.

There is a certain vibe of this film that makes it like 100 days of Summer except, it was in a reversed role and with a completely different ending. Just like in 100 days of summer where a simple thing was romantic, this film features similar scenes where everyday life can be romantic and meaningful. Despite not having a lot of money,Alvin goes out his way to have a dinner date with Bree in front of samgyup place. The catch? Alvin brings his lunch boxes and sits with Bree in front of the all-you-can-eat grill.

The screen writing is what I love the most about the film as well as the actors that makes it natural when delivering the lines. The chemistry between the two as well as the modern family setting was quite the highlight of this film. The struggles of the characters were quite relatable even as a foreign audience watching the movie. This perhaps what makes it stand out,a relatable story that is not so out-of-touch with reality of everyday life and especially in a post-covid society.

While the backdrop is Filipino culture, as a foreign audience the movie feels universally relatable. They also added a modern family dynamic into it without feeling like it was forced and it adds an interesting element into it. The romance was there but it was not cheesy-kind of romance, it was the same feeling that could be evoked through watching Begin Again which was starred by Keira Knightely. If you are a fan of that movie, this film is also for you.

As I don’t have much knowledge of the culture itself but from my interaction with Filipino, this film has the essence of the positive aspects of it. From tight-knit family, helping each other, and the willingness to fight their daily struggle and life challenges, it was all there.More importantly, It was the spirit of Bree, played by Carlie Dizon, a 25 something who was outspoken and portraying a typical zillennial that was captivating. While a character such as Alvin played by Charlie Aquino is too good to be true, one can only hope such an MPD(manic pixie dream) boy would really exist. Perhaps, I might not understand many nuances such as waiting for a jeepney and getting into it during rush hours, or prayer at the supermarket at 7 AM. Regardless of those, it was an interesting film peeking into regular Filipino life. Still, I can really relate to one scene when Bree was eating instant noodles silently weeping. What makes it quite funny is that his neighbor was singing karaoke in the background.

I personally have not watched many Filipino series and films but from netflix and viu that I ever checked out, usually romance would be a very typical or almost similar K-drama plot. Some even remake from it but this one, is an experience itself and extremely recommended. I don’t understand why it’s rated 5 out of 10. I know it’s not a superhero or blockbuster movie but despite different cultures and languages, the meaning can be received universally and it is pretty relatable for regular people’s lives.
