En mi opinión, Medalist es un gran logro en el mundo del anime deportivo que ha atrapado mi gusto de tal manera que pocos animes de este tipo logran. Lo que más ͏me ha chocado fue la idea principal: una patinadora con gran talento pero poco reconocida, y un entrenador que, aunque él fracasó, ve un potencial ilimitado en ella. Esta unión no es muy nueva, pero cómo se muestra en Medalist se ve fresco y real. La serie va más allá de solo mostrar la habilidad deportiva porque analiza los aspectos emocionales y mentales que implica la competencia alta.

In my opinion, Medalist is a great achievement in the world of sports anime that has caught my taste in a way that few anime of this kind manage to do. What most ͏me shocked me was the main idea: a skater with great talent but little recognized, and a coach who, although he failed, sees unlimited potential in her. Cuando en una serie tienes a Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren y Paddy Considine sabes automáticamente que será algo muy digno de ver. Yo mismo cuando descubrí esto me sorprendí al ver un elenco tan completo para una serie de Paramount+ y es que todos los actores pegan a la perfección con los personajes que les tocó interpretar en esta historia de la mafia británica/irlandesa. Es una trama en donde el suspenso criminal siempre está presente junto con las traiciones, luchas de poder, manejo de territorios, venta de drogas. extorsiones y un sinfín más de crímenes que a lo largo de los capítulos van emergiendo uno a uno.

Dos familias que controlan el crimen organizado en Londres, los Harrigan y los Stevenson, están en guerra y conflicto por lo que entre ellos amenazan con destruirse mutuamente haciendo caer los imperios de cada casa. En el medio de esta compleja situación está Harry Da Souza (Tom Hardy), un "solucionador" que tiene contratado los Harrigan para tratar de mitigar los daños y que nada escale a niveles muy grandes. Evidentemente esto lo hace por la lealtad inmensa que le tiene a la familia de Conrad (Pierce Brosnan) y para cuidar los intereses de su familia, esposa e hija en este caso. Él viene siendo la mano derecha y el músculo de esta familia por lo que lo veremos ensuciarse bastante tratando de "limpiar" los desastres que cometen los demás.

El origen de toda esta guerra, cuando vean la serie se darán cuenta, fue por algo extremadamente tonto hecho por uno de los miembros de una de las familias pero como en estos niveles esos errores se pagan caro pues la tormenta perfecta se desatará muy rápido. Acá lo que predomina es la intriga, cada episodio es sumamente atrapante en ese sentido porque no sabes por dónde pueden llegar las traiciones y las puñaladas por la espalda. Siempre estaremos en el entorno de estas familias y veremos como resuelven los problemas y tratan las diferencias al mismo tiempo que planean como destruirse uno al otro. Pero, por que tanto odio? - pues porque como les dije, el detonante de todo esto fue algo que sin dudas puede mover el piso del que lo sufre, de ahí el rencor.

Además de todo lo comentado hay que decir que la serie es muy cruda, violenta y gráfica ya que estas personas no se andan con muchos rodeos. Muchos disparos, torturas, ejecuciones, todo ello acompañado de un festival visual de sangre. Al final es todo lo que esperas de una serie y de una historia de estas características. Ahora, lo realmente interesante de esta serie es cómo maneja el tema de la lealtad, algo tan demandado en ese mundo tan frágil. Y es que si, el epicentro es cerrar filas y hacer el circulo pequeño para ver quien es quien y desenmascarar al traidor porque si, al final del día hay alguien dentro de los Harrigan que no está jugando para el mismo equipo.

La trama no aburre en ningún momento, siempre está pasando algo, siempre hay un asunto que atender, un cabo que atar y eso que la historia sea muy dinámica. Hay un par de plot twist muy interesantes hacia el final de la temporada que ayudan a que la historia cierre por un lado pero se abra completamente por el otro. La segunda temporada no está confirmada aún pero todo parece indicar que si habrá por la forma tan abierta en la que termina todo. Los personajes son muy buenos y las actuaciones mejores todavía. Pierce Brosnan es muy top, Helen Mirren también destaca mucho siendo la mujer fría y despiadada que maneja los hilos desde las sombras y bueno hablar de Tom Hardy es sinónimo de calidad, estos papeles le quedan realmente bien, el tipo rudo y de pocas palabras que resuelve todo.

Being a zombie movie lover, I went for the movie Parasite with the mindset that it was an apocalypse movie—especially because it appeared as a recommendation after I had watched a zombie movie. Also, the cover photo looked fishy, plus in my hood, there's something associated with anything called a parasite, and that’s “an animal eating the shelter.” So, I thought something of that nature was going to occur, but nope—it turned out to be a different perspective, yet still within the parasitic definition.

The first set of scenes almost got me dizzy because I was expecting to see a zombie breakout, probably in the big mansion that was emphasized in the movie. But no—it kept going and going until it reached a point where I was finally piqued. Not by any zombie outbreak, but instead by a real parasite—Kim’s family—slowly destroying Mr. Park’s family.

Kim’s family, comprising a father, mother, and two adult children, lived in a small, congested house. All of them worked to earn money to keep their lives running, but their earnings weren’t enough to let them live well. Kim Ki-Woo, the son in the family, got a recommendation from his friend—who was traveling abroad—to replace him as a home tutor for Mr. Park’s child. He went for the interview, got hired, and that was when they planned to have every member of their family employed in the Park residence. They wanted to live there, milk the family dry, and escape the poverty they were stuck in.

I won’t spoil it for you by mentioning how they managed to get all of them employed in the house. It was a trickish move, but they played it smartly and completely outsmarted Mr. Park, his wife, their children, and even the old nanny—until the real twist escalated.

The twist came when the old nanny returned one night while Mr. Park and his family were away on vacation. She begged the newly hired staff (Kim’s family) to let her into the house because she forgot something. And guess what? It was discovered that the old nanny had been secretly keeping her husband in the underground chamber of the house for many years. She had been feeding him regularly from the family’s kitchen, and no one in Mr. Park’s household was aware.

The old nanny refused to take her husband out of the house. She threatened that if she was forced out, she would report Kim’s family to the police—and they would all be swept away. But Kim’s family refused to let her stay either, because having both families in the house would ruin their plan of draining the Parks to their satisfaction.

In this movie, the suspense had me deeply interested, especially in the near-caught scenes. Kim’s family was on a wicked mission, but I found myself praying they wouldn’t get caught during those tense moments. That tells you how good the plot is.

The comic parts weren’t left out either. I’m someone who loves humor and laughter to the core. Even when I’m watching a very serious movie, I deduct points if it doesn’t have any comic relief. Parasite had a lot of comic scenes, and they were very entertaining.

I also love how the film introduced some ‘irrelevant’ parts and conversations that, in the end, added so much creativity to the story. A good example is how, once in a while, Mr. Park would complain about how his driver’s clothes smell—referring to Mr. Kim. That very smell was what almost exposed them during a critical scene in the house. That blend was so well done!

The characters did perfectly well, and Mr. Kim stood out for me. Every time he appeared in a simple, sweaty shirt, I found myself imagining the scent from his body. Lol.

It’s a good movie, and I would rate it 8/10. I initially wanted it to be a zombie movie, but though it turned out the opposite, I still found it very interesting to watch—and it wasn’t a waste of time at all.

The film Adu is a Spanish drama directed by Salvador Calvo. The film is far more than just a film, it takes us on journey into the heart of the African refugee crisis which left me with a deeply emotional experience.

The film basically narrates the brutal realities that immigrants in most cases face. It plainly shows scenes of violence and exploitation which are encountered by people that make such journeys. A major part of the film that was really heartbreaking was when Adu made an initial attempt to flee with his older sister, Alika, which helps shade some light on how desperate and vulnerable children can be when caught in this crisis. The visuals of the movie were impressive. It did a great deal in capturing the breathtaking but often cruel African landscapes, feeding us with the sight of despair of refugees in the camps.

One notable aspect of the film was in the remarkable bond forged between Adu and Massar (Adam Nourou),who is a little older than Adi and later on turns to be Adu's protector and surrogate family. We see both the youthful exuberance aspect of Nourou and also the weight of responsibilty he pulls on himself. Their interactions and how they share the struggles for survival gives quite a sympathetic narrative.

The extent to which Massar sacrifices for the sake of Adu, including enduring personal abuse, hammers on acts of selflessness that emerge in tough circumstances. The film branches into two other interconnected storylines. One follows a Spanish border guard, Mateo, played by Alvaro Cervantes, who wrestles with his conscience after a refugee dies during a border crossing, gives us themes of complicity and moral dilemma within the system. The other focuses on Gonzalo an animal rights activist in Africa struggling with the problem of poaching and his own poor relationship with his troubled daughter (Anna Castillo).

These subplots hels to broaden the film's scope, demonstrating the web of socio-political issues that gets in the way with the refugee crisis, from environmental exploitation to systemic corruption and personal responsibility. The way these seemingly narratives later converge towards the end. This is one film that was really emotionally demanding and contains graphic content that can be quite deeply discomforting. Like, the film does not at any time sugarcoat the reality, what it does instead is compel viewers to confront uncomfortable truths and foster a much-needed sense of empathy.

It’s a call to action, urging us to recognize the universal human desire for safety and dignity, and to question the policies and attitudes that promote such suffering. Adu is a powerful and necessary cinematic experience that leaves a lasting impact. I give it a rating of 8.5/10.

Avec l'ambiance politique actuelle, que ce soit aux USA ou chez nous, nous sommes un tantinet désabusés et préférons nous plonger dans des ambiances + agréables, du style qui fait rêver et rire ou alors carrément de la grosse action, ou encore de l'instructif/casse-têtes.

Depuis sa diffusion, j'ai lu les critiques et elles étaient vraiment bonnes. De plus, nous savons que De Niro n'a pas peur de dire ce qu'il pense (cfr Festival de Cannes 2025) et qu'il a co-produit cette série. Nous nous attendions donc à quelques clins d'œil à la politique américaine actuelle.

Synopsis :

George Mullen (Robert De Niro) est retraité du poste de Président des Etats-Unis, parce qu'il a démissionné pour des soucis personnels dont le décès de son fils. Evelyn Mitchell (Angela Bassett) a pris sa succession et assume sa position. Quand une grosse coupure internet et électrique survient, George Mullen était dans son bureau, chez lui, là où il conserve toutes ses notes prises pendant son mandat, mais aussi lorsqu'il était militaire et combattant. Une journaliste vient de partir, qui venait pour rédiger les Mémoires de George, mais George préfère les écrire lui-même. La Présidente Mitchell va demander à George Mullen de s'occuper de ce qui semble être une cyber-attaque et lui donne carte blanche pour s'entourer des personnes adéquates. Alex Mullen (Lizzy Caplan), la fille de George, pense qu'il devrait refuser. Roger Carlson (Jesse Plemons), l'ancien bras droit de George, l'encourage et l'assiste. Comme nous nous y attendions, il y a eu des allusions à l'environnement politique américain actuel. Par exemple, une femme milliardaire, du domaine de la tech, décrite comme autiste, intervient dans l'histoire, mais pas de la même façon que monsieur Musk l'a fait. Nous sommes quand même tentés d'établir un lien.

Nous avons bien aimé cette série, bien menée. Nous nous sommes demandés régulièrement si George Mullen était perturbé à cause de certains de ses médicaments qui auraient été trafiqués ou si quelqu'un "manipulait" son cerveau à distance. Nous n'avons pas eu clairement la réponse à cette énigme-là.

En tout cas, Robert de Niro, 81 ans, est encore dans une belle forme, je lui dis "chapeau, monsieur !".

Esta serie está basada sobre todo en la Reina Elizabeth II de Inglaterra desde su ascensión al trono, aunque a lo largo de todos los capítulos también podemos ver no solo su evolución en el trono, sino las aventuras y desventuras de casi toda la familia real británica y como han tenido que adaptarse a las duras exigencias de su posición. La serie también involucra los conflictos políticos, sociales y económicos que enfrentó el Reino Unido debido a las decisiones del gobierno o de la propia Reina.

Las actuaciones estuvieron brillantes y honestamente me encantó la elección del cast, me pareció muy acertada pues el parecido de los actores con los personajes en la vida real es asombroso, aunque la que más me sorprendió, no solo por su parecido físico sino por sus gestos y expresiones fue Vanessa Kirby como la princesa Margaret.

Lo que de verdad no me agradó mucho de esta primera temporada es el tono grisáceo de la fotografía, aunque es un recurso muy propio de producciones británicas, he notado eso, pero hace que le de un toque aburrido y debido al ritmo un poco lento del guion hace que puedas perder el interés, de hecho la estaba viendo con mi mamá y mi hermana y ellas desistieron, solo quedé yo porque como les digo, soy seguidora de todo lo referente a esta familia 😄.

La serie se va poniendo más interesante a medida que la trama avanza, para la tercera temporada vemos a la reina en una etapa más madura y en este caso vemos que se ha endurecido en cuanto a la crianza de sus hijos se refiere, de hecho es inevitable sentir empatía hacia el príncipe Charles por todo lo que sufrió durante su etapa de adolescencia, estudiando en el mismo colegio internado que su padre en lugar de ir a Eton College que era a donde le correspondía ir como futuro príncipe de Wales, no obstante es cierto que tuvo muchos aprendizajes. Las actuaciones estuvieron igualmente brillantes y a pesar de que Olivia Colman no tiene los ojos azules de la reina, sí guarda un parecido asombroso con ella en la época que comprende los años 70 e inicios de los 80, por otra parte Helena Bohan Carter reemplaza a Vanessa Kirby como Margaret y ciertamente no se parece en lo absoluto (aunque amo muchísimo a Helana como actriz) de hecho su actuación es soberbia, derrocha elegancia y altivez, incluso a veces llegas a odiarla (como sucedía con Vanesa Kirby) pero esto sucede porque se toma en serio su personaje y lo hace genial, pero lamentablemente y aunque el departamento de caracterización se esmeró muchísimo no se parece en nada a Margaret en esa época.

El soundtrack es magistral, soberbio, me encanta absolutamente, tiene un aura monárquica y sobre todo británica indudable, suena sublime y solemne, de hecho aquí les dejaré mi tema favorito (Duty Shoot) para que ustedes lo comprueben y juzguen por ustedes mismos.

Bring Her Back (7.0/10)

So Basically the movie starts with a video recording of an old ritual scene where someone gets killed and is about a brother and a sister who lose their father and are put in foster care with a women who also has 1 other strange foster child. Soon it becomes clear that more is going on and the movie similar to Talk To Me has some disturbing scenes of which one I kind of had to put some fingers in front of my eyes.

Movie Plot (Spoiler Free):

A brother and sister uncover a terrifying ritual at the secluded home of their new foster mother.

So there are a lot of good things I can say about this movie in that it again was filmed in a way that is quite impressive especially some of the gory scenes. These brothers really have a talent for that as they also pulled this off really well in Talk To Me. The acting and casting also was excellent and I did never get bored while watching this one. However, the storyline didn't really blow me away or anything as it all was pretty clear from early on what actually was going on as the title along with some early hints. This really made me miss some kind of twist making everything more just about some of the disturbing scenes and less about the actual story.

Spoiler Plot Summary

I mainly felt like there was information missing in the story with too many questions left and things put in there that were just cool like the circle around the house and many other things about the ritual. I would say this one is extremely disturbing mainly for women who also have children.

Movie Themes There are different themes in this movies with motherhood and grief in a way that was done ok but personally didn't really hit for me. However, I can see how for some people these themes hit way harder so this is a personal thing.

Conclusion This was my most highly anticipated horror movie of the year and while it did like how the movie technically is made from every aspect (casting, filming, visuals, music,...), the story kind of was a bit of a miss for me not matching up to Talk To Me. Ultimately I see this movie as a combination of the idea of the exorsist and Speak No Evil. I rate this one a 7.0/10 mainly because the many good aspects about this film which makes me a bit forgiving for what was a rather dissapointing story.
