This is a 2026 Spanish film, distributed by Netflix and based on a 1972 film of the same name inspired by a true story. It is a romantic drama, but focused, in my opinion, on psychological drama, which is more reflective, as it explores the character’s inner traumas and conflicts and serves to make the viewer think, to reflect on the plot and the crux of the story, and to draw some positive lessons for their own life.

The plot of this film deals with a rare and at the same time controversial topic; it is about intersexuality and not about gender identity; these concepts should not be confused. Intersexuality encompasses various physical conditions related to reproductive organs, hormones, and chromosomes; it is a biological phenomenon and is strictly related to a person’s physical or bodily characteristics, unlike gender identity, which refers to how people internally identify as male, female, or other.

The protagonist is Adela, a 26-year-old woman living in a city in Spain; she is an only child and was raised by a family with traditional values; she is demure, shy, and works as a teacher and catechist; at first, she even gives the impression of being a nun or having a religious inclination.

Es una película española del 2026, comercializada por Netflix y basada en otra película homónima de 1972 inspirada en una historia real, del género romance y drama, pero enfocado según mi percepción en el drama psicológico que es más reflexivo, ya que explora los traumas y conflictos internos del personaje y sirve para hacer pensar al espectador, para que medite sobre el argumento y nudo de la historia y pueda sacar alguna experiencia positiva para su propia vida.

El argumento de esta película es un tema poco común y a la vez controversial, trata sobre la intersexualidad y no sobre identidad de género, no se debe confundir estos conceptos. La intersexualidad abarca el significado de varias condiciones físicas relacionadas con los órganos reproductivos, las hormonas y los cromosomas, es algo biológico y está relacionado estrictamente a las características físicas o corporales de una persona a diferencia de la identidad de género que es como las personas se identifican internamente si hombre, mujer, entre otros.

La protagonista es Adela una mujer de 26 años que vive en una ciudad de España, es hija única y fue criada por una familia de costumbres tradicionales, ella es recatada, tímida y cumple funciones de profesora y catequista, incluso al principio da la impresión de ser monja o con esa inclinación religiosa.

Adela pasa por una crisis al descubrir un secreto familiar que está ligado a su nacimiento y es lo que desencadena todo el proceso de redescubriendo de su cuerpo e imagen personal, resulta que aun con 26 años no se había desarrollado, nunca había menstruado y decidió acudir a un ginecólogo por primera vez, esta necesidad de saber qué pasaba con su cuerpo la llevó a vivir momento tenso y de angustia con su madre quien se oponía rotundamente a este chequeo médico, es allí cuando descubre que tenía internamente genitales masculinos.

Por supuesto antes de tener el conocimiento de su intersexualidad Adela quien se percibe como mujer se sentía confundida con su orientación sexual. No había tenido acercamientos románticos con nadie, pero comienza a sentir cosas por la terapeuta de su abuela. Ella no entendía qué pasaba y por supuesto eso le trajo dolor y desconcierto.

Yo también me sentí como Adela durante toda la película 😁🤣, estuve intrigada desde el principio hasta el fin, pues me confundía la actriz o actor que protagonizaba el personaje de Adela, nunca supe definir su sexo, a veces pensaba que era mujer con características muy masculinas como la altura y su corporalidad otra veces pensaba que era un hombre homosexual por sus gestos femeninos tan bien logrados. Me parecía casi imposible creer que un actor hiciera esos gestos, miradas y expresiones femeninas solo por un personaje. Así que no pude saber con exactitud si Adela era hombre o mujer en su vida real.

Cómo quedé intrigada al terminal de ver la película, busque información sobre la protagonista y su nombre es Elisabeth Martínez, actriz intersexual. En cuanto a la película creo que es muy difícil para los padres tomar decisiones que marcan la vida de sus hijos sin saber las consecuencias, y para los niños intersexuales debe ser muy duro intentar encajar en un mundo con dos polaridades, Masculino y femenino.

Aprendí cosas en esta película y me siento más empática con las personas, recomiendo ver esta película con el corazón abierto sin juzgar.

In the long tradition of television drama, the two-part episode often follows a predictable pattern: the first instalment, with its compelling hook and cliffhanger, sets a bar that the concluding chapter struggles to meet. The initial episode thrives on mystery and escalation, leaving the audience desperate for resolution, which the second frequently delivers in a manner that feels either rushed or anti-climactic. Star Trek: The Next Generation’s sixth season two-parter, Birthright, presents an interesting exception to this rule. While Part I is a competently constructed mystery weaving together Data’s dream subplot and Worf’s quest for father, it is Part II that emerges as the more substantive and focused piece of television. By jettisoning the ancillary storyline and diving deep into a nuanced cultural and philosophical dilemma, Birthright, Part II transcends the typical limitations of a sequel and stands as a remarkably strong episode in its own right.

The plot continues the misadventures of Lieutenant Worf on the remote planet Carraya IV, a world within the confines of the Romulan Star Empire that serves as the site of a clandestine prison camp for Klingon survivors of the infamous Khitomer massacre. Worf’s initial shock is not at their captivity, but at their resignation. These warriors, whom he expected to be plotting glorious escape, have instead resigned themselves to a permanent, quiet life. To return to the Klingon Empire, they believe, would subject themselves and their families to profound dishonour for having survived while others died. Their only solace is found in the next generation: children born in captivity who are entirely unfamiliar with the old Klingon ways. To these youths, the camp is not a prison but a home, a utopian commune made possible by the sympathetic Romulan commandant, Tokath (Alan Scarfe). Tokath, who saved these Klingons at Khitomer at the cost of his own military career and later married one, has built a fragile society where ancient enemies coexist.

After his own attempts to escape prove futile, Worf turns his attention to the young Klingons. He slowly begins to teach them their forgotten heritage—the language, the stories, the warrior ethos. Tokath, who sees Worf as a dangerous destabilising force threatening his life’s work, tries to stop him. His efforts fail spectacularly as the youths, particularly the passionate Toq (Sterling Macer Jr.), enthusiastically embrace this long-suppressed cultural identity. Worf’s mission becomes a crusade, and Tokath, backed into a corner, reluctantly sentences him to death. The episode’s pivotal moment arrives at the execution ground: Toq steps in front of the Romulan firing squad to join Worf in glorious death, a gesture immediately followed by nearly every other young Klingon. Faced with the collapse of his dream, Tokath capitulates. A compromise is forged: the older generation may remain to preserve their honour and family names, but the youth will leave. Worf then contacts the Enterprise and concocts a cover story about a crashed cargo ship to explain the sudden appearance of these Klingon youths. Captain Picard, intuitively understanding the deeper truth, implicitly plays along, allowing Worf to complete his act of cultural reclamation.

The primary reason Birthright, Part II is a superior episode to its predecessor is its singular focus. Part I is burdened by a secondary, albeit intriguing, storyline involving Data’s experimentation with dream states. While this explores fascinating questions of consciousness, it ultimately feels like a separate episode awkwardly spliced with Worf’s journey. Part II discards this baggage entirely, allowing the narrative to delve deeply into the complex society on Carraya IV. Unencumbered, the episode achieves a thematic density and emotional resonance that Part I could not.

The creative inspirations behind the episode lend it considerable intellectual weight. Producer Michael Piller later cited the 1992 biopic Malcolm X as an influence, particularly its treatment of cultural identity and self-discovery. Scriptwriter René Echevarria drew from his own background as child of Cuban immigrants in America, grappling with the tension between assimilation and connection to a severed heritage. These real-world parallels elevate the narrative from a simple Star Trek adventure to a poignant meditation on diaspora, identity, and the price of peace.

The episode’s strength lies in its engagement with eternal dichotomies: Nature versus Nurture, and Freedom versus Safety. It handles these themes with remarkable nuance, refusing simplistic moral divisions. Tokath, who could easily have been portrayed as a tyrannical jailer, is instead depicted as an almost saintly figure. He is a man who genuinely sought the best for his charges, creating a peaceful, integrated community—the very utopian ideal Gene Roddenberry often preached. Yet, his utopia is built on a foundation of lies and the suppression of an entire culture. He provides safety at the expense of freedom, particularly for the young who never knew any alternative.

Worf, conversely, becomes the agent of disruptive truth. He insists on revealing to the youths their heritage, fully aware that this act will destroy Tokath’s community and endanger everyone involved. The episode does not shy away from painting Worf in a less-than-heroic light. His lifelong, bigoted hatred of Romulans—previously showcased in the controversial episode The Enemy—is shown to be a profound flaw. It costs him a potential romantic connection with B’elanna, Tokath’s half-Romulan, half-Klingon daughter, highlighting how his rigid ideology can blind him to individual virtue and personal happiness.

On a production level, the episode benefits immensely from the work of visual effects maestro Dan Curry. With decades of experience on Star Trek, Curry realised the Carraya IV camp through a credible combination of traditional studio sets and expansive matte paintings. This creates a tangible sense of place—neither a stark prison nor a paradise, but a believable, lived-in environment that visually reinforces the episode’s themes of confined coexistence.

Furthermore, the episode serves as superb Klingon world-building. It moves beyond the usual rituals of honour and combat to explore what happens when that culture is stripped away and must be rediscovered. It adds layers to Klingon society, examining the concept of dishonour not as a momentary failure but as a generational stain, and questions what parts of a culture are essential to its soul.

However, the episode is not without its flaws. The character of Jaglom Shrek, the enigmatic Yridian information broker who led Worf to Carraya, is almost completely inert in Part II, a consequence of actor James Cromwell being injured during shooting. His presence feels like an unresolved thread. Similarly, the Enterprise’s eventual arrival to retrieve Worf is handled in a perfunctory, routine manner that lacks dramatic weight, serving as a mere logistical coda to the much richer psychological drama on the planet.

In the end, while "Birthright, Part II" may not reach the sublime heights of The Next Generation’s very finest instalment, it remains a very good, thought-provoking piece of television. It succeeds precisely because it dares to be a quiet, philosophical character study in a franchise often defined by galactic stakes. By focusing on Worf’s role as a cultural revolutionary and presenting its central conflict without easy villains, it delivers a resolution that is intellectually satisfying and emotionally complex.

It's truly an excellent choice for this upcoming Father's Day weekend to enjoy with your family. Even though it's over 20 years old, it's the kind of film that never goes out of style. That's why I didn't hesitate to include it as a second option to remind us how important the father figure is in the life of every boy and girl.

What's the plot about?…

Personal opinion

I find this film incredibly charismatic, and even with the passage of time, it retains that touch that's entertaining throughout. Best of all, it knows exactly what it is: a family comedy designed to make you laugh and touch your heart. Although it resorts to some slapstick clichés (diaper jokes, slapstick, messiness), it has such a brisk pace that it never feels boring; it's a cinematic "safe haven" that has aged remarkably well.

Now, this film uses the same hero's journey formula: the protagonist falls from grace (losing his corporate job) to find his true purpose in the most unexpected place (a makeshift daycare). However, everything is very well balanced, as we see the contrast between being a company employee and being a free, home-loving childcare worker who seeks to understand what the children need and not be bound by rigid structures, like those at the prestigious rival daycare. He understands that he has to listen to these little beings and know what they need, because they have to enjoy being in a place that isn't their home. I also feel that it plays very well with pacing; the transition from "these men have no idea what to do" to "they are genuinely connecting with the children" doesn't feel forced. The script takes the time to show that the daycare's success doesn't come about by magic, but through pure empathy and patience.

Regarding the actors and their performances, let's first talk about Eddie Murphy, whom we're used to seeing in these kinds of roles, but more restrained, tender, and paternal than in his comedies of the '80s or '90s, without losing his brilliant facial expressiveness and comedic timing. As for the rest of the actors who accompany him on this babysitting journey, Jeff Garlin is the perfect counterweight to Murphy, bringing a more physical and relaxed humor; he represents the average man caught in a ridiculous situation. And with Steve Zahn, his character, a nerdy science fiction fanatic who lives with his mother, is the one who truly connects with children's language. Zahn steals almost every scene he's in with his innocent charisma.

¿De qué va la trama?…

Opinión personal

Esta película me resulta sumamente carismática y que, aún con el paso del tiempo, tiene ese toque que divierte en todo momento y, lo mejor de todo es que, sabe exactamente lo que es: una comedia familiar diseñada para hacer reír y conmover. A pesar de que recurre a algunos clichés del humor físico (chistes de pañales, golpes, desorden), tiene un ritmo tan ágil que nunca se siente aburrida; es un "lugar seguro" cinematográfico que envejeció bastante bien.

Ahora bien, esta película usa la misma fórmula del viaje del héroe, que cae en desgracia (pierde su empleo corporativo) para encontrar su verdadero propósito en el lugar menos pensado (una guardería improvisada), no obstante, todo está muy bien equilibrado, pues vemos ese contraste entre ser empleado de una compañía, al ser libre y hogareño cuidador de niños, que busca entender lo que necesitan y no dejarse llevar por cosas rígidas, como la tenía la prestigiosa guardería enemiga, el comprendió que tiene que escuchar a esos seres pequeños y saber que necesitan, porque tienen que disfrutar estar en un lugar que no es su hogar. También siento que juega muy bien con el ritmo, la transición de "estos hombres no tienen idea de qué hacer" a "están conectando genuinamente con los niños" no se siente forzada. El guion se toma el tiempo de mostrar que el éxito de la guardería no llega por arte de magia, sino por pura empatía y paciencia.

En cuanto a los actores y sus interpretaciones, primero hablemos de Eddie Murphy, del cual se está acostumbrado ver este tipo de papeles, pero como más contenida, tierna y paternal que en sus comedias de los 80 o 90, pero sin perder su brillante expresividad facial y su timing cómico, en cuanto al resto de los actores que lo acompañan en este viaje de ser niñeros, Jeff Garlin es el contrapeso perfecto para Murphy, aporta un humor más físico y relajado; representa al hombre común atrapado en una situación ridícula y con Steve Zahn su personaje, un nerd fanático de la ciencia ficción que vive con su madre, es el que realmente logra conectar con el lenguaje de los niños. Zahn se roba casi todas las escenas en las que sale con su carisma inocente.

Crítica acertada a la presión infantil: Un gran acierto es cómo expone y satiriza a las escuelas que intentan sobreexigir a niños de 4 o 5 años para que actúen como "mini ejecutivos", defendiendo la idea de que los niños simplemente necesitan jugar y ser niños.

Worf’s deeply personal quest—to verify Shrek’s claims by coercing the Yridian to guide him to the Romulan-border planet Carraya IV—possesses the gravity and dramatic heft of a major A-story. However, it is material that feels stretched thin across a first part, yet simultaneously too insubstantial to standalone. The Data subplot, therefore, reads as a narrative stopgap, a B-story invented precisely because Braga and the production team realised Worf’s arc was too large for one episode but insufficient for a compelling two-part opener. Its resolution is decidedly un-cathartic; the mystery is solved technically, but it lacks emotional transformation or significant stakes for the overall series arc. The thematic parallel—both Worf and Data grappling with the legacy of their fathers—is intellectually elegant but practically lopsided, with one thread bearing immense cultural and personal weight and the other feeling like a charming but disposable technical sidebar.

Where the episode indisputably succeeds is in its execution and quieter character moments. Director Kolbe’s care with visuals is evident, particularly in the surreal, almost dreamlike presentation of Data’s visions, which stand in stark, effective contrast to the sterile Enterprise corridors. Furthermore, a small but significant scene adds a layer of traditional masculinity and vulnerability to Worf: his accidental observation of the young Klingon woman, B’ael (Jennifer Gatti), bathing in a pond. It stands as a successful, if somewhat uneven, piece of television—a fascinating prologue whose greatest promise lies in the resolution yet to come.

This movie left me completely baffled; I'd never seen such an ingenious and well-crafted plot. Initially, based on the title, I thought it would be about some kind of digestive illness, but the situation I encountered when things started to spiral out of control was a complete surprise. That's when I truly understood the meaning of the word "parasite".

The story introduces us to a dysfunctional family desperately trying to escape poverty, without considering the consequences of their actions. To achieve their goal, they devise a master plan that seems to be working perfectly: they manage to unethically infiltrate the mansion of a wealthy dynasty. Each member assumes a different role and, with astonishing cruelty, they get the former servants fired to take their places, cleverly concealing the fact that they are related.

However, fate had a masterstroke in store for them. Everything spirals out of control when something they least expected emerges from the basement, becoming the catalyst that causes their charade to crumble decisively and without any possible solution. From that point on, the initial comedy transforms into a suffocating thriller that will leave you speechless.

It's a film worth every minute; it keeps us on the edge of our seats and leaves us with an uneasy feeling, seeing the depths to which a lack of scruples can sink. Bong Joon-ho, the film's director, achieves a raw portrait of human desperation, where selfishness and need tragically intertwine. In the end, he shows us that the real parasites don't just live underground, but sometimes are part of society itself. This film, for me, is not just any film; it's a true gem of contemporary cinema that makes you reflect on the true values of a society and the role of the individual as a human being.

Some movies are built around huge action scenes, and others are remembered because of the atmosphere they create. Drive is a film that stands out because of its style, mood, and unforgettable characters. Released in 2011, it feels like a throwback to classic crime movies while still creating something completely different.

The film was directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, who brought a very unique vision to the project. Instead of making a typical action movie, Refn focused on tension, silence, and character development. His direction gives the movie a slow burn feeling where every scene builds toward something bigger.

Ryan Gosling stars as the Driver, a quiet Hollywood stunt driver who works on the side as a getaway driver for criminals. Gosling’s performance is one of the biggest reasons the movie works so well. He says very little, but his expressions and actions tell the audience everything they need to know about the character.

The supporting cast is excellent as well. Carey Mulligan plays Irene, a neighbor who develops a connection with the Driver. Their relationship becomes the emotional center of the story and shows a different side of a character who usually keeps everyone at a distance.

The movie also features Bryan Cranston as Shannon, the Driver’s mechanic and mentor. Cranston brings a lot of personality to the role and helps add depth to the world around the Driver. Oscar Isaac, Albert Brooks, and Ron Perlman also deliver memorable performances as the story moves deeper into the criminal world.

The plot follows the Driver as he becomes involved with Irene and her family after her husband Standard returns from prison. When Standard gets caught up with dangerous criminals, the Driver decides to help protect them. That choice pulls him into a violent situation that becomes more dangerous with every step.

One of the biggest strengths of Drive is its atmosphere. The neon lighting, nighttime city scenes, and incredible soundtrack create a style that feels different from most modern films. Every shot feels carefully planned, almost like watching a crime story mixed with a visual dream.

The movie is also interesting because it does not follow the typical action movie formula. The Driver is not a loud hero making jokes and giving speeches. He is quiet, mysterious, and unpredictable, which makes the moments when he does explode with violence much more impactful.

As the years go by, new horror stories emerge, and at the same time, many may turn out to be true or false—just like the Backrooms, a phenomenon that has been mentioned in countless online stories, YouTube channels, and other platforms. It consists of a simple image: endless yellow corridors. That’s why the time has come to adapt it, and the film known as Backrooms is set to premiere. It has generated a lot of buzz for being that combination of horror and science fiction, leading us to wonder: what would happen if you ended up trapped in a place where everything is yellow?

This is a movie for those who enjoy this horror genre and that mind game, as it draws heavily on those internet references and builds a horror experience based on the sensation of disorientation. Furthermore, from the very first minute, everything here is the same—the same place, all yellow—and it becomes familiar, but over time, you can start to notice shifts in mood and fear.

A medida que los años van avanzando nuevas historias de terror nacen y a la vez muchas pueden llegar a ser de verdad o de mentira, tal como lo son los Backrooms algo que se ha mencionado en muchas historias de internet, canales de YouTube y en muchos otros espacios, la cual es una imagen simple, pasillos amarillos interminables y por eso llego el momento de adaptarla y que se estrenará la película conocida como Backrooms, donde ha dado mucho de que hablar por ser esa combinación de terror con ciencia ficción y nos lleva a preguntarnos ¿qué pasaría si terminarás atrapado en un lugar donde todo es amarillo?

Esta es una película para los que le gusta este género de terror y ese juego mental, ya que toma gran parte de esas referencia del internet y construye una experiencia de terror basada en la sensación de desorientación. Además, desde el primer minuto, todo aquí es igual, un mismo lugar, todo amarillo y se convierte en algo conocido, pero que con el tiempo ya se pueden notar cambios de aptitud y de miedo.

It had been a long time since I’d heard this, and seeing how movies today draw inspiration from the classics is truly admirable. One of the things that really adds value beyond the scares is the silence of the empty hallways and the feeling that the rules of the world have stopped working. Plus, everything seems to connect in impossible ways, creating a labyrinth that defies all logic.

Each scene, despite being almost identical, conveys fear and that mix of nostalgia and anxiety that comes from being trapped in a confined space—the most agonizing feeling there is in this life. It also makes perfect use of artificial lighting and empty spaces to generate a constant sense of unease, which is why every second of the film feels more real, and as a viewer, you remain attentive to each of the mysteries surrounding this universe and the constant uncertainty about what is really happening.

Tenía mucho tiempo que no escuchaba esto y ver cómo hoy en día las películas toman referencia de cosas buenas es de admirar y una de las cosas que realmente le aporta valor más allá del susto, es ese silencio de los pasillos vacíos y de la sensación de que las reglas del mundo han dejado de funcionar, además todo parece conectarse con otra de manera imposible, creando un laberinto que desafía toda lógica.

Cada una de las escenas a pesar de ser casi iguales transmiten miedo y esa mezcla de nostalgia y ansiedad al estar en lugar encerrado, siendo lo más desesperante que existe en esta vida. Como también aprovecha perfectamente la iluminación artificial y los espacios vacíos para generar una incomodidad constante, por eso cada segundo de la película se vuelve más real y uno como espectador sigue atento a cada uno de los misterios que rodean este universo y a la incertidumbre permanente sobre lo que realmente está ocurriendo.

I really liked the result and this adaptation of Backrooms, as it offers a different take from other films in this genre and shows that you don’t always need to show too much—often, what we don’t see is far more unsettling. Plus, there’s no action here, but there is a disturbing experience that surely no one would be prepared for. So if you’re looking for something different, this is for you—and to realize that sometimes the scariest place isn’t where something is chasing you, but where it seems like you’ll never be able to find the way out.

Me gusto mucho el resultado y esta adaptación de Backrooms, ya que es una propuesta diferente del resto de las películas de este género y es una muestra de que no siempre se necesita mostrar demasiado, puesto que muchas veces, lo que no vemos resulta mucho más inquietante. Además, aquí no habrá acción, pero sí una experiencia inquietante que seguramente nadie estaría preparado para eso. Por eso si buscas algo distinto esta es para ti y darte cuenta de que a veces el lugar más aterrador no es donde hay algo persiguiéndote, sino donde parece que nunca podrás encontrar la salida.

Michael (film): A good film and a little conspiracy theory of mine to go along with it
I wanted to go and see this film when it was in theaters but my logic kicked in the day I was thinking of going to it. You see, I believe there are a few types of movies that are greatly enhanced by being in the theater and you can't replicate that same experience at home, no matter how much you spend on your home theater. These sorts of films are normally action or fantasy films and often they can be really good in the cinema even if the film isn't really that good. I use all the Jurassic Park films as an example here: none of those films are particularly noteworthy (outside of maybe the first one) yet they are continually very good experiences in the theater.

When it came to Michael, I really felt like this was a film that would be just fine at home and being in front of a huge screen with a loud sound system wasn't going to change the experience all that much, so I held off. I think me and my $25 or so made a wise decision here.

I am old enough to have been aware of my surroundings for most of MJ's career although I was just a baby when the "Rock with You" album was released and I don't think I was born when the Jackson 5 were a big deal. I did see the meteoric rise of Jackson though and was a child when Thriller was released and yes, that was a very very big deal.

This movie documents Michael Jackson's departure from his family to being a solo artist and the main focus of the movie is about how his father Joseph was a rather oppressive figure in Michael's life, although you can't help but realize that had his father not been so much of a driving force that the world might not have known about Michael at all. He might just have been some dude in Indiana that was really good at karaoke had his Dad not been such an asshole.

I gotta give some real credit to the cast here. If there is one person that would be very difficult to emulate it would probably be Michael Jackson. The reason why the world went so gaga for the dude is because of the fact that he was so unique and unusual. Even if you were not a fan of pop music you probably liked MJ's work. I always enjoyed Jackson's music even after I was in college and had kind of determined that metal was my thing. Michael Jackson was on of those musicians that had the following of everyone and I don't think many people were ashamed to admit this. I wasn't and I was very particular about what sort of music I would listen to.

This is kind of touched upon in the film and how everyone loved Michael, regardless of what they were all about. While I am sure some creative liberties were taken they state that MJ was inspired to get actual gangsters from the Bloods and Crips into the "Beat it" video after hearing about gang warfare on TV.

his iconic look and high pitched voice are on full display in this film and I gotta hand it to Jaafar Jackson, who is Michael Jackson's actual nephew, for his portrayal of the "King of Pop."

I bet this was a tough sell to put this guy in that role because he doesn't exactly have a huge CV of acting experience. He is Jermaine Jackson's son.

If I hadn't looked that up I probably wouldn't have known but whether or not you are related by blood to Michael, you probably still have to work a ton in order to accurately emulate the man who is arguably the most famous musician of all time.

This movie concludes at the "Bad" (the album) portion of Michael's life and it is more about his struggles with his father than anything else. Speaking of which Colman Domingo is someone else who I am not all that familiar with despite the fact that he has won an Emmy and has been been nominated for two Oscars! His performance as Michael's father, Joseph, is absolutely outstanding and I guarantee it will result in another Oscar nomination and I'm betting on an Oscar win for best supporting actor.

If you watch this film for no other reason you should do it for this. Not only does he absolutely nail the role of an oppressive but ultimately loving father, but they were able to make him genuinely look like Joseph the real person as well. It's kind of uncanny.

Now briefly I want to discuss my conspiracy theory about this film. The documentary that recently dropped on Netflix about the child-exploitation trial about Michael Jackson didn't really present Michael in the best light. While they didn't go so far as to say that MJ was guilty and got away with it, they kind of hint at exactly that. The Jackson Family is still a money-making machine and always will be, and in a way I feel like this film's release date kind of feels like damage control in a way. The fact that it has made nearly a billion dollars in worldwide box-office take is just an added bonus.

Ok, that's all I have to say about that

Should I watch it?

I kind of think that all the people that were going to watch this already have done so or at least the HUGE box office would indicate that this is the case. However, if you are one of the people that has been avoiding seeing it for perhaps the same reasons that I did, you really should see this. I would be willing to bet that you will learn a thing or two about Michael and the rest of the Jackson family while doing so. Is it all true? Well, who knows? I would imagine there was a lot of creative liberty taken and of course they want to protect the Jackson family. Regardless though, this is a very entertaining film that takes us through the years before things started getting really strange with Michael.

I started the film up intending to watch just a bit of it and then go to bed but ended up watching all of it. For me anyway, that is a sign that a film is truly top drawer.

_{it is not yet possible to watch this anywhere as part of a basic subscription. You can legally rent it for around $20 (which I think is too much) on almost all streaming services. It is not available on Netflix and is unlikely to ever be.}

The Chosen Movie Review
What prompted me to start this movie wasn't the wide media fame or awards it had gotten, nor was it my regular Instagram feed that brought an edit of it to my eyes. My mom had asked me to download the first 3 seasons for her to watch. That happened close to 4 weeks ago, and now, I am the one who has finished the series and is left in awe at how the life of Jesus has been retold.

The Chosen
*** #### Plot > The story of Jesus, retold. *** I believe the initial problem anyone would've had when creating a series like this is how to keep the viewers entertained. It's one of, if not the most popular tales ever told with creative freedom of how it's supposed to go being 0. > I doubt any Christian would be thrilled watching a version of Jesus story that isn't biblically accurate.
So there is no individualism in the tale, in the location or in the plot. What and how can you make this show as interesting as it is?

Be creative with the people!

I'm very sure this was his plan when he chose a cast as colorful, dynamic and talented as this. The idea of not focusing on the prophecy itself but how the prophecy interacted with the people. The little intricacies that the Bible fails to point out or highlight. This series was carried by it's cast. The acting was beautiful, very beautiful. In the five seasons the ones I was enamored with the most was Jesus and Rabbi Shmuel. It's rather ironic how the two opposing forces were headed by two of the most talented actors I have ever seen even though I'm just seeing them; Jonathan Roumie and Shaan Shamar The epic aspect of this show is to be appreciated too, although I guess that's just how the story is in the Bible too 😂 What this series did is to bring the events of the Bible into something of a visual understanding for Christians and non-christians alike. It's theological, mostly religious, yet still, factually historical and that is what makes it feel so real.
