MAPPA has recently established itself as the best studio in the industry, given the great anime they've produced. Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, and now Hell's Paradise are just some of the titles we can enjoy, all while experiencing incredibly high-quality visuals. I'd say the animation is some of the best you'll find here. Today, I'm going to talk a bit about the second season of Jigokuraku, about Gabimaru and his "friends'" journey through Shinsenkyō, the island inhabited by the Tensen, in their quest to finally find the elixir of life. I don't know if this anime is getting the attention it deserves, but if you, the reader, are unfamiliar with it, let this review be your chance to sit down and watch it.
MAPPA últimamente se está consolidando como el mejor estudio en la actualidad dado los grandes anime que tienen bajo su sombra. Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen y ahora Hell's Paradise son algunos de los que podemos disfrutar al mismo tiempo de que vemos un material visual de extrema calidad porque si, diría que la animación es de lo mejor que se aprecia acá. Hoy vengo a hablar un poco de la segunda temporada de Jigokuraku, del viaje de Gabimaru y sus "amigos" a través de Shinsenkyō, esta isla en donde habitan los Tensen para así encontrar finalmente el elixir de la vida. No se si este anime está siendo visto como debería pero en caso de que tu que me lees no sabes de él pues que esta reseña sea la oportunidad para sentarte a verlo.
Unlike the first season, which can be seen as a kind of preamble, in this second installment the frenetic action and sinister tone are significantly heightened. They're no longer just deep within the island; they've decided to head for the palace where the Tensen reside to achieve their objective: the elixir. Knowing this, we have two key strengths. The first is the direct confrontations with these beings, and the second is the arrival of more people on the island, individuals with different missions but one thing in common: to kill others. These people come from the Shogunate, and others are assassin ninjas (from Iwagakure). This second element will form the basis for what we'll see in the third season.
A diferencia de la primera temporada que la podemos ver como una especie de preámbulo en esta segunda entrega la acción frenética y el tono siniestro sube bastante de nivel porque ya no solo es que están adentrados en la isla sino que decidieron ir hacia el palacio donde viven los Tensen para lograr el objetivo: el elixir. Sabiendo esto tendremos dos puntos fuertes, el primero son los enfrentamientos directos contra estos seres y lo segundo es la llegada de más personas a esta isla, personas que llegan con diferentes encargos con algo en común: matar a otros. Esta gente viene de parte del Shogunato y otros que son unos ninjas asesinos (Iwagakure). Esto segundo será la base para lo que veremos en la tercera temporada.
As I said, I think this second season far surpasses the first. The battles between the humans and the Tensen are spectacular, the animation is top-notch, and MAPPA clearly enjoys making everything visually striking, eye-catching, explosive, saturated with color, bright, and radiant. Add to that the fluidity, the quality of the designs, and the attention to detail, and you have a 10/10 animation. Flowers are very important in this anime; everything revolves around them, as they are the manifestation of the powers we see. The major transformations are always related to petals, roots, and spores. I say this because combining something so natural and beautiful with the terror of these beings is undoubtedly something interesting to watch.
Como ya dije creo que esta segunda temporada supera por mucho a la primera. Los combates entre los humanos y los Tensen son espectaculares, la animación que se desarrolla es muy top, a MAPPA le gusta mucho que todo sea muy vistoso, llamativo, explosivo, saturado de color, brillante, resplandeciente, etc, etc. Si a esto le sumas la fluidez, la calidad de los diseños y los detalles pues tenemos una animación 10/10. En este anime las flores son muy importantes, todo recae sobre ellas y es que son la manifestación de los poderes que vemos; las grandes transformaciones siempre estarán relacionadas con pétalos, raíces, esporas. Esto lo digo porque combinar algo tan natural y bello con el terror que supone la presencia de estos seres es sin duda algo interesante de ver.
Another thing that caught my attention is the humanization and deeper development of some of the characters; this season is more introspective. The focus is always on the more sensitive side of everyone, even the Tensen themselves, despite the fact that they've never been human. We see connections between them, it seems as if there are feelings; it's about showing empathy so that the plot resonates more effectively. On the human side, Gabimaru, Yazurinha, Sagiri, Shion, the Toma and Chobel siblings, the assassin Gantetsusai, and many others also soften, and their feelings and worries surface—literally. In the end, they all have a goal, someone to fight for, someone to live for, and that struggle for survival will make everything more intense.
Otra de las cosas que llamó mi atención es la humanización y la profundización de algunos de los personajes, la temporada es más introspectiva. Siempre se busca el lado más sensible de todos, incluso de los mismos Tensen a pesar de que estos nunca han sido humanos. Vemos como entre ellos hay conexiones, pareciera que hay sentimientos; es mostrar la empatía para que la trama llegue con más efectividad. Por parte de los humanos, Gabimaru, Yazurinha, Sagiri, Shion, los hermanos Toma y Chobel, el asesino Gantetsusai y un largo etc, también vemos como muchos de ellos se ablandan y afloran, nunca mejor dicho, sus sentimientos y preocupaciones. Al final todos tienen una meta, alguien por quien luchar, por quien vivir y parte de esa supervivencia hará que todo sea más intenso.
Even the Tensen have a purpose, guided by their master Rien. He has a goal, a plan in which humans are both a part and essential. The ending is heartbreaking because it hints at something incredible to come, culminating in a truly powerful climax with major events about to unfold. This is a top-tier anime, one of the best currently available, with incredibly interesting characters and a captivating plot. The nature of the Tensen makes everything even more sinister and dark. Highly recommended; each episode is more enjoyable than the last. It has 12 episodes. I've included the trailer below for you to check out; it's definitely worth watching.
Y es que hasta los Tensen tienen un motivo por medio de su maestro Rien, él tiene un objetivo, un plan en donde los humanos forman parte y son necesarios. La forma en como termina es dolorosa porque tiene toda la pinta que lo que se viene es increíble, todo culmina muy arriba con cosas muy importantes a punto de suceder. Un anime muy top, de lo mejor que hay actualmente con unos personajes super interesantes y una trama curiosa, la naturaleza de los Tensen hace que todo sea más siniestro y oscuro. Muy recomendado, cada episodio se disfruta más que el anterior. Tiene 12 capítulos. Les dejo el tráiler para que le echen un ojo, vale mucho la pena.

Otro aspecto positivo a destacar es que te encariñas rápido con sus personajes, ya sean secundarios o primarios. Y si no te has leido el manga (como yo) no sabrás quién está en la lista negra de la muerte para ser víctima de tales mounstros que habitan en esa isla maldita.

And think about it: a murderer super hardened by violence, and suddenly, bang!, a little light of humanity is turned on in him by a single person: his wife, Yui, that struggle he carries inside, which feels almost painful, you know, between his bastard past and that love that now moves him to survive and seek forgiveness... that's the heart of the series... the truth is, I connected a lot with Gabimaru, with his internal problems, while he faced very real dangers and also those in his own head... it's that, to be honest, it's not very common to find an anime with so much action that delves into exploring themes like redemption or finding oneself, without taking away from how crude its world is.
Now, let's talk about the island: Nirvana. Look, if you imagine a paradise with palm trees and a beach, forget it! Nirvana is anything but, it's a super strange, extremely dangerous place, where every step can cost you your life; like the dark and twisted version of what a paradise should be... the island is full of half-human creatures, ancient gods and mysteries that are revealed little by little, it reminded me a lot of that disturbing vibe of the Dark Continent of Hunter x Hunter... every twist has you on the edge of your seat, one moment you're like 'wow, what a strange beauty!' and the next 'oh my god, who's next?!'.. that constant tension really hooks you in.
Hola a todos, amantes del anime, espero que hoy se encuentren súper bien, querida comunidad de The Anime Realm, hoy les traigo mi reseña personal, del anime: Hell’s Paradise.. desde que le puse play, quedé atrapadísimo con la historia de Gabimaru el Vacío, está es la trama, conocemos a un ninja que parece inmortal, condenado a muerte, pero ¡pum!, le dan una oportunidad para salvarse si encuentra el elixir de la vida.. solo con esa idea, o sea, un asesino con un pasado brutal que tiene que ir a una isla misteriosa, casi infernal, llamada Nirvana, ya me tenían comprado! Y es que piénsenlo: un asesino súper endurecido por la violencia, y de repente, ¡zas!, una lucecita de humanidad se le prende por una sola persona: su esposa, Yui, esa lucha que trae por dentro, que se siente casi dolorosa, ¿saben?, entre su pasado cabrón y ese amor que ahora lo mueve a sobrevivir y buscar perdón… eso es el corazón de la serie.. la verdad, conecté un montón con Gabimaru, con sus problemas internos, mientras se enfrentaba a peligros bien reales y también a los de su cabeza.. es que, siendo sincero, no es muy común encontrar un anime con tanta acción que se meta a explorar temas como la redención o encontrarse a uno mismo, sin quitarle lo crudo que es su mundo.
Ahora, hablemos de la isla: Nirvana. Miren, si se imaginan un paraíso con palmeritas y playa, ¡olvídenlo! Nirvana es todo menos eso, es un lugar súper extraño, peligrosísimo, donde cada paso te puede costar la vida; como la versión oscura y retorcida de lo que debería ser un paraíso.. la isla está llena de criaturas medio humanas, dioses viejísimos y misterios que se van soltando de a poquito, me recordó un buen a esa vibra inquietante del Continente Oscuro de Hunter x Hunter.. cada giro te tiene al borde del asiento, en un momento estás '¡wow, qué belleza tan rara!' y al siguiente '¡no manches, ¿quién sigue?!'.. esa tensión constante te engancha mucho.
And we have to talk about Sagiri, the executor who accompanies Gabimaru... at first you see her super serious, all professional, but as the story progresses, boom!, you start to see other sides of her, more vulnerable but also super strong, and she becomes an amazing character... how she evolves is one of the best things about the anime, watching her grow, taking risks not only against the bad guys but against the prejudices placed on her for being a woman... it inspires you, really. The chemistry she has with Gabimaru is great; the two of them grow a lot because of the way they relate to each other. I was surprised by how Sagiri made me think with that quiet strength she has and all her internal struggles.
Another thing I liked about Hell's Paradise is that it's not your typical shonen for kids, you know? This anime is clearly aimed at teenagers and adults: it’s raw, violent, and doesn’t hold back when it comes to showing some serious scenes… the blood, the breathless action, and the more mature story put it in another league… I felt like the series respects you as a viewer, touching on dark themes without forcing in filler or jokes, after the first few chapters, which are more to introduce you to everything, because from the following ones things really heat up and don’t stop… each character feels real, with their own issues and fights.
Nothing feels random, like everything happens for a reason, it’s like they’re constantly reminding you that on this island, anyone can die—no one is safe—and that, phew!, makes it so much more exciting… and the production, my respects! MAPPA did a very good job with the animation… well, yes, there are times when it drops a little, but overall, the action scenes are great. How they managed to capture that semi-murky, yet colorful Nirvana atmosphere is brutal, each fight has incredible energy and the choreography is so well done that you almost feel like you're there in the middle of the mayhem... oh, I can't help but talk about the opening: "Millennium Parade" I've been stuck on that song ever since I heard it! It's not just the opening song, it's an entire experience that perfectly prepares you for what's to come... the ending is also very good, I like it a lot, as does the opening.
Y hay que hablar de Sagiri, la ejecutora que acompaña a Gabimaru.. al principio la ves súper seriecita, toda profesional, pero conforme avanza la historia, ¡pum!, le empiezas a ver otras facetas, más vulnerable pero también súper fuerte, y se convierte en un personajazo.. cómo evoluciona es de lo mejor del anime, verla crecer, arriesgándose no solo contra los malos sino contra los prejuicios que le ponen por ser mujer... te inspira, la verdad. La química que tiene con Gabimaru es buenísima; los dos crecen un montón por cómo se relacionan, me sorprendió cómo Sagiri me puso a pensar con esa fuerza calladita que tiene y todas sus luchas internas, otra cosa que me gustó de Hell’s Paradise es que no es el típico shonen para niños, ¿saben?
Este anime va clarísimo para adolescentes y adultos: es crudo, violento y no se corta en mostrar escenas fuertecitas.. la sangre, la acción que te deja sin aliento y la historia más madura lo ponen en otra liga.. sentí que la serie te respeta como espectador, tocando temas oscuros sin meter relleno ni chistes a la fuerza, después de los primeros capítulos, que es más para presentarte todo, porque desde los siguientes la cosa se prende y ya no para.. cada personaje se siente real, con sus propios rollos y peleas.
Nada se siente al azar, como que todo pasa por algo, es como si a cada rato te recordaran que en esta isla, cualquiera puede morir —nadie está seguro— y eso, ¡uff!, le mete muchísima más emoción.. y la producción, ¡mis respetos! MAPPA hizo un muy buen trabajo con la animación.. a ver, sí, hay ratitos donde baja un poquito, pero en general, las escenas de acción son geniales. Cómo lograron captar esa atmósfera medio turbia, pero llena de color de Nirvana es brutal, cada pelea tiene una energía increíble y las coreografías están tan bien hechas que casi sientes que estás ahí en medio del desmadre.. ¡ah!, no puedo no hablar del opening: “Millennium Parade” traigo esa canción pegadísima desde que la oí! No es solo la canción de inicio, es toda una experiencia que te prepara perfecto para lo que se viene.. el ending también es muy bueno, me gusta mucho al igual que el opening.
Something that threw me off, but in a good way, is how direct the story is... you know how shonen are sometimes, with those training sessions that last a thousand years and half-forced jokes... well, Hell's Paradise is nothing like that, it gets to the point, straight to what matters, they don't beat around the bush, seriously... each scene has its reason for being... the story goes straight, but they tell you about the characters' pasts and why they do what they do, and they do it super well, without it feeling rushed or slow, that way of telling it, like that, without so much going around in circles, made me get even more involved... I was thinking about the characters' moral problems, asking myself 'what would I do there?'. Because, it's rare to find an anime that balances action with real character development... then, you see the characters trying to survive, because the threat of death is there all the time, you always have that feeling of danger, that any character, no matter how attached you are, could be the next to fall... that uncertainty keeps you glued to the screen, every fight, every twist the story takes, entertains you, and you're there thinking 'how much longer are these guys going to hold out?'.
It's that drama where everything is at stake that makes the anime feel so alive, so unpredictable and, honestly, super addictive... and yes, I confess: there were times when the anime surprised me. I came in with the idea of 'ah, the typical shonen', and it changed the whole game for me, that mix of drama that hits home, raw action and characters that intrigue you with how they change... it's something unique that kept me entertained and connected the whole time... I laughed at some of the crazy things, I was shocked by the brutality of other parts and yes, it even touched my heart in the most emotional moments, that roller coaster of feeling everything is what makes this series stay with you.
Algo que me sacó de onda, pero para bien, es lo directa que es la historia.. ya saben cómo son a veces los shonen, con esos entrenamientos que duran mil años y chistes medio forzados... pues Hell’s Paradise nada que ver, va al grano, directo a lo que importa, no se andan con rodeos, en serio.. cada escena tiene su porqué, su razón de ser.. la historia va derechita, pero te van soltando el pasado de los personajes y por qué hacen lo que hacen, y lo hacen súper bien, sin que se sienta ni apurado ni lento, esa forma de contarla, así, sin tanta vuelta, hizo que me metiera todavía más.. estuve pensando en los problemas morales de los personajes, preguntándome '¿qué haría yo ahí?'. Porque, es raro encontrar un anime que equilibre la acción con que los personajes de verdad evolucionen.. luego, ves a los personajes intentando sobrevivir, porque la amenaza de la muerte está ahí todo el tiempo, siempre tienes esa sensación de peligro, de que cualquier personaje, por más que te encariñes, puede ser el siguiente en caer.. esa incertidumbre te tiene pegadísimo a la pantalla, cada pelea, cada giro que da la historia, te entretiene, y estás ahí pensando '¿cuánto más van a aguantar estos compas?'.
Es ese drama donde todo está en juego lo que hace que el anime se sienta tan vivo, tan impredecible y, la verdad, súper adictivo.. y sí, les confieso: hubo momentos en que el anime me sorprendió. Yo llegué con la idea de 'ah, el típico shonen', y me cambió toda la jugada, esa mezcla de drama que te llega, acción bien cruda y personajes que te intrigan cómo van cambiando... es algo único que me tuvo entretenido y conectado todo el tiempo.. me reí con algunas locuras, me impactó la brutalidad de otras partes y sí, hasta me tocó el corazón en los momentos más emotivos, esa montaña rusa de sentir de todo es lo que hace que esta serie se te quede bien grabada.
Speaking of the characters, Gabimaru is a ninja who is full of contradictions, think about it: a boy who was raised to be a killing machine, without feeling anything, but his journey forces him to encounter his human side, and all because of the love he has for his wife, that fight he has inside, between who he was and his desire to redeem himself... that makes him super interesting, it's not just 'let's see who survives', it's like finding a little light in the middle of all the darkness. Well, it's not that it's perfect, obviously, like everything, it has its things, there are times where the animation goes down a little, and some scenes feel a bit fast or they put scissors compared to the manga... also, from chapter 8 or 9 everything starts to change course, so it feels like it was pulled out of a sleeve, like it didn't turn out to be what was promised, but something else, it's a strange feeling...
The cool thing about Hell's Paradise - the well-told story, the characters that have depth, the fights that are wow! - weighs much more and makes you not notice the other things as much... so, if you're looking for an anime that combines hard action with a story that moves you inside, this is a good option, it's a series that makes you think, challenges you a little, and believe me, it will stay with you... whether you're interested in the dark and mysterious world of Nirvana, Gabimaru's fight to change, or the claw of Sagiri fighting against everything, this anime has something for you, so, I give it an 8.5 out of 10, well deserved... Hablando de los personajes, Gabimaru es un ninja que está lleno de contradicciones, piénsenlo: un chico al que criaron para ser una máquina de matar, sin sentir nada, pero su viaje lo obliga a toparse con su lado humano, y todo por el amor que le tiene a su esposa, esa pelea que trae adentro, entre quién fue y sus ganas de redimirse… eso lo hace súper interesante, no es nomás 'a ver quién sobrevive', es como encontrar una lucecita en medio de todo lo oscuro. A ver, tampoco es que sea perfecto, obvio, como todo, tiene sus cositas, hay ratos donde la animación como que baja un poquito, y algunas escenas se sienten medio rápidas o le metieron tijera comparado con el manga.. también a partir del capitulo 8 o 9 todo empieza a cambiar de rumbo, de manera que se siente sacada de la manga, como que no resultó siendo lo que se prometía, sino otra cosa, es un sentimiento extraño..
Lo chido de Hell’s Paradise –la historia bien contada, los personajes que tienen su profundidad, las peleas que están ¡wow!– pesa mucho más y hace que ni te fijes tanto en lo otro.. así que, si andan buscando un anime que combine acción de la dura con una historia que te mueva por dentro, está es una buena opción, es una serie que te pone a pensar, te desafía un poco, y créanme, se les va a quedar grabada.. ya sea que te llame la atención el mundo oscuro y misterioso de Nirvana, la lucha de Gabimaru por cambiar, o la garra de Sagiri peleando contra todo, este anime tiene algo para ustedes, así que, yo le doy un 8.5 de 10, bien merecido.. le pongo esa calificación porque la idea está bien loca y original, los personajes tienen mucha profundidad y la historia te atrapa, no es perfecta, ¡obvio!, pero es de esas series raras que te hacen pensar y al mismo tiempo te emocionan un montón.. y bueno, esto sería todo por hoy, nos veremos en otras reseñas, les dejaré el opening por aquí, cuidense, byebye!

It has the scenes where character used ninjustu which brought the memories of one of my favorite anime (Naruto). The story follows Gabimaru, a skilled ninja from the Iwagakure village, who was an assassin, he was sentenced to death which he accepted. The truth is that, Gabimaru could escape his prison but he doesn’t want to die because he believes his wife was still alive.
Anytime they try to cut his neck off, he would do some ninjustu to strengthen his skin hereby shattering the sword.
The Storyline
The anime takes place in a Edo Japanese time where there was no form of technology. No one was screaming “Technologia”. Gabimaru and other condemned prisoners are sent to find the elixir of immortality. The catch is that the island is filled with supernatural creatures, treacherous terrain, and other dangers. Anyone who brought back the elixir of immortality will be freed from their death sentence. Gabimaru aim was to get the elixir, escape the highland and find his wife which just felt like only a memory at that time.

As you watch the series, you are surprised by unexpected changes in the story and revelations that will keep you excited. In addition, the series deals with important themes such as life, death, redemption and what it means to be human, which gives it more depth than just having action scenes.
Lo que más me gusta de esta producción, es cómo mezcla diferentes tipos de historias en una sola. Por un lado, hay peleas emocionantes y momentos tensos al estilo shonen, pero también incluye terror, fantasía y drama psicológico. Esta combinación de diferentes estilos hace que la serie sea muy interesante para verla varias veces, porque cada vez que la ves, encuentras cosas nuevas en las que no habías reparado antes.
What I like most about this production is how it mixes different types of stories into one. On the one hand, there are exciting fights and tense shonen-style moments, but it also includes horror, fantasy and psychological drama. This combination of different styles makes the series very interesting to watch several times, because each time you watch it, you find new things you hadn't noticed before.
Sin embargo, no todos los detalles de aqui me terminaron de enamorar. Algunos personajes que no son los protagonistas pueden parecer muy parecidos a otros personajes, como s reciclaran ciertos dibujos en otras personas, y la historia, aunque interesante, puede ser un poco difícil de entender en algunas partes, por esto es que mencionaba al comienzo que llega a confundir. However, not all the details here made me fall in love with it. Some characters that are not the main characters can seem very similar to other characters, as if they were recycling certain drawings in other people, and the story, although interesting, can be a little difficult to understand in some parts, this is why I mentioned at the beginning that it gets confusing. Personalmente, me gustó, aunque tuviera que repetir ciertas partes o episodios para entender, es una serie muy entretenida, que considero que si buscas entrar al mundo del anime, esta puede ser muy buena para ello. Yo le doy un 7.5/10, por el tema de que llega a confundir o a ser un poco larga en ciertas escenas.

One of my Japanese friends and I were talking about sword-related anime or manga. She's crazy about ***Touken Ranbu*** and I just started reading ***Kagurabachi*** that time. We often talk about things related to Japanese culture and history... and then, she mentioned ***Jigokuraku*** or *Hell's Paradise* to me. She didn't watch it *(since she's not keen on watching bloody stuff)*, but she know I'd like it... and yes, she's right!
I finished watching the first season last night, so let me talk about it. :)
The story is about a ninja, Gabimaru, who initially wanted to be executed and an executioner Sagiri.
Despite Gabimaru's claim about wanting to end his life, doing various types of execution didn't work on him. He's unconsciously trying to live and Sagiri noticed it.
Sagiri then offered him a chance of full pardon from all the crimes he had committed, but of course, it won't be easy.
To assure his freedom, he is to travel to an island called Shinsekyo to find the Elixir of Life, which grants immortality, and hand it to the shogun.
He isn't alone in this quest, though. He's to go to the island with nine other criminals alongside an executioner to monitor them and execute them when things go wrong.
However, the other criminals and the executioners were the least of his worries. Almost nobody who went to the island has ever returned. If there is, they're either dead or good as dead.
Having no idea on what would happen, Gabimaru accepted the offer in hopes of being with his wife again.
Above is the official trailer of the said anime... and as you can see, it's from MAPPA, so the animation style is obviously great! The effects and fight scenes were done pretty well as expected. ;)
Story-wise, it was to my liking. There are bits and pieces of information related to Japanese history, religion and the like, so it's a bonus for me.
There were also a lot of interesting characters (both from the criminal and executioner sides) that caught my attention. They have their own amusing and/or heartwarming backstories that would really make you feel a connection with them. Sadly, not all of my faves survived. ugh!
Despite that, I just couldn't stop watching. There isn't an exact date for the second season, but it has already been officially announced that there will be... but yeah, I'm impatient...
I just caught up with "Kamonohashi Ron no Kindan Suiri" manga a while ago, so it's time for me to read Jigokuraku... and the manga is completed! So, I'm pretty excited... I'm still looking forward to watching the second season even though I read the manga. ^^
If you're up for a bloody adventure, then this anime is for you. :)

I don't have the right to call myself an anime fan. That's because I watch them very rarely. I think I've watched a total of 4 animes my whole life despite having a good number of anime obsessed humans as friends. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy watching animes. It's just hard for me to settle down and pick an anime, download it and watch. I know I'm being unfair to the anime fan in me, I'm sorry, lol😂.
Anyways, I happened to have an anime conversation with a friend of mine who is very persistent. And he saddled me with the responsibility of watching five japanese animated movies in two months. Although I don't know if I'll be able to meet up cause a month has passed and I'm just finishing the first one he downloaded for me. The optimist in me wants to believe that it's still possible.
So, among the five animations he got for me, one of them was Hell's Paradise. I don't know what inspired me to settle for it. I don't know how I got to start watching it. Maybe the anime lover in me was starving 😂. All I know is that I found myself watching something and when I realized what I was watching, I was already way into it. That was how interesting I found it.
Anyways, I watched Hell's Paradise and I'm here to share my opinion about the series with you.
Hell's Paradise is an action-fantasy anime that follows the story of young man - Gabimaru, a Shinobi born in the village of Iwagakure. He is married to the Chief's daughter but gets fed up with her and tries to leave the village. But no one is allowed to leave the village. When he is sentenced to death for trying to leave the village, all efforts to kill him proves furtive. But when a female Asaemon is assigned to execute him, his will to live becomes stronger. Then, he is presented with two options, either he goes to the underworld with other hardened criminals and comes back with the Elixir of Life and is granted an official pardon, or he continues with his death sentence. He settles for the former and embarks on the journey.
When they get to the island, they are faced with a series of unnatural happenings which forces them to question: Did the Elixir of Life really exist? What exactly happened to the other people sent to the island? What is the nature of the plants that seem to be existing in this other side?
So far, this is the most popular anime I've watched and I enjoyed watching it. Gabimaru was a witty, suicidal, strong and smart character. His relationship with the female Asaemon was admirable. Of course, it was platonic. He is believed to be married. They were portrayed as teammates who understood each other and were ready to help each other when necessary. They were also very mean to each other at times😂. They were the highlight of the movie for me.
Also, I loved that this show didn't dwell on unnecessary scenes. Our goal was to bring back the Elixir of Life, and that was exactly what each and every character was focused on doing. The complexity of the characters. Their strengths and weaknesses, I found it all fascinating. There were annoying characters too but I'm glad they turned out helpful at the end.
Then, there was this statement made by Gabimaru - You can't know how strong you are until you've experienced a lot for yourself. I'd be lying if I said i didn't find this quote captivating. Such profound truth embedded in a sentence.
As much as I enjoyed this anime, I found something quite unsettling. The sexist and masochist statements in this anime. 'A woman like you is not supposed to be an asaemon', 'Men are to wield blades, a woman's job is to have babies' Statements like these were made but nobody stood to correct it. Nahh, I didn't like that.
Aside the above, I loved watching this. It was a nice blend of humour and action. Although just one season consisting of 13 episodes is out, I look forward to watching the next season.
So, if you haven't watched Hell's Paradise, it's a very nice anime that I would recommend to those who are willing to overlook the flaw I mentioned above. Also, if you can't stand gore and nudity, refrain from watching this anime. But in all, it's a wonderful anime.
Week after week we are looking for those hidden gems that I think deserve to be talked about. As has become customary I have been watching movies of all kinds, last week was pure horror so for this one I had to change the genre a little, this time it was the turn of science fiction. This film is one of those that touches on the realities of life in the event that technology transcends to highly developed levels to the point that AIs take control of the universe and therefore decide on behalf of the people who may still be left in these dystopian futures.
Semana tras semana estamos buscando esas joyas que por ahí están escondidas y que creo que merecen que sean habladas. Como ya ha venido siendo costumbre me he dedicado a ver películas de todo tipo, la semana pasada fue de terror puro por lo que para esta había que cambiar un poco el género, en esta oportunidad le tocó a la ciencia ficción. Este film es de esos que toca las realidades de la vida en caso de que la tecnología trascendiera a niveles muy desarrollados al punto de que las IA tomarán el control del andar del universo y por tanto decidieran en nombre de las personas que aún pudieran quedar en estos futuros distópicos.
As I was saying, we are in a post-apocalyptic future where the Earth is practically uninhabited, there are only a few humans trying to survive with difficulty. It turns out that all people moved, only in mind and personality, to a new fully cybernetic world called DEVA. If you know what I mean, it's something like the Matrix or what happens in Altered Carbon. The thing is that apparently there they live well because no one is aware of a physical body, they are simply without human concerns. But from one moment to another everything changes.
Como les comentaba nos encontramos en un futuro de esos que llaman postapocalípticos en donde la Tierra está prácticamente deshabitada, solo quedan unos cuantos humanos tratando de subsistir a duras penas. Resulta que todas las personas se mudaron, únicamente en mente y personalidad, a un nuevo mundo totalmente cibernético llamado DEVA. Para que me entiendas es algo algo parecido a la Matrix o a lo que sucede en Altered Carbon. La cosa es que aparentemente allí se vive bien porque nadie está pendiente de un cuerpo físico, simplemente están sin las preocupaciones humanas. Pero de un momento a otro todo cambia.
Apparently someone from Earth managed to access the DEVA systems to try to communicate with all those who make life there, ie a hacker, This violated everything and left bad for this system that in theory is so sophisticated so the council that runs DEVA calls Angela Balzac, one of its best officers, to go to the planet, find this hacker and eliminate the threat. La trama hasta acá es clara, el detalle es que al llegar a la tierra Angela conoce a un humano, Dingo, su facilitador y ella comienza a darse cuenta de unas cuantas cosas que estando en DEVA no veía por lo que ese conflicto de visiones comienza a aparecer y con él la lealtad de la misión.
I think one of the strong points of this movie without any doubt is its animation. This was directed by Seiji Mizushima, yes, the same of Fullmetal Alchemist. We are facing a story that involves space, robots, explosions, shooting, space stations; all the ingredients to make the visuals spectacular. I honestly enjoyed watching this film, it is very fluid, the CGI is used decently and the plus is the use of 3D. It is really appreciated when they are in space or when there are confrontations between robots. It's very entertaining to watch, when the animation does the job you can really notice the quality.
Creo que uno de los puntos fuertes de esta película sin ningún tipo dudas es su animación. Esto fue dirigido por Seiji Mizushima, si, el mismo de Fullmetal Alchemist. Estamos ante una historia que involucra el espacio, robots, explosiones, disparos, estaciones espaciales; todos los ingredientes para que que lo visual sea espectacular. Honestamente disfruté mucho ver este film, es muy fluido, el CGI está usado decentemente y el plus es el uso del 3D. Se aprecia mucho cuando están en el espacio o cuando se dan los enfrentamientos entre robots. Es muy entretenida de ver, cuando la animación hace el trabajo se nota mucho la calidad.
As for the plot, despite being a little flat at times it is very cool because I feel that it goes beyond the simple fight between one side and another, many times it gets philosophical about what it means to be human, the emotions that one can feel, the objectives and goals that we can have in our lives, dreams, desires, etc. This is because the offer to leave the Earth and become a virtual or synthetic entity is on the table, so Dingo understands that this is not life or freedom, that there is nothing better than having control of our emotions and bodies and being able to dispose of this in the way we please. It is here that the conflict of interest begins to emerge in Angela. These undertones give a lot of depth to the story and that is always a good thing.
En cuanto a la trama pues a pesar de ser por momentos un poco plana está muy cool porque siento que va más allá de la simple pelea entre un bando y otro, muchas veces se pone filosófica con respecto a lo que significa ser humano, las emociones que uno puede llegar a sentir, los objetivos y metas que podemos tener en nuestras vidas, sueños, deseos, etc. Esto es porque la oferta de abandonar la Tierra y ser un ente virtual o sintético está sobre la mesa, entonces Dingo entiende que eso no es vida ni libertad, que no hay nada mejor que tener control de nuestras emociones y cuerpos y poder disponer de esto de la manera que nos plazca. Es acá cuando el conflicto de intereses comienza a surgir en Angela. Estos trasfondos le dan mucha profundidad a la historia y eso siempre es bueno.
The characters are well developed. Angela, not being familiar with the current life on Earth, is like a child who sees everything anew, so her judgment is not completely defined, to see how she is understanding things shows growth in her. Dingo, in spite of looking unconcerned about everything, has clear objectives, besides having a very strong sense of help and responsibility. Both complement each other very well, they make a very good couple because they are 100% different personalities. Zero complaints in this section.
Los personajes están bien desarrollados. Angela al no estar familiarizada con la vida actual en la Tierra es como un niño que ve todo de nuevo por lo que su juicio no está del todo definido, ver como va entendiendo las cosas denota crecimiento en ella. Dingo a pesar de verse despreocupado de todo en el fondo tiene sus objetivos claros, además de tener un sentido de ayuda y responsabilidad muy fuerte. Ambos se complementan muy bien, hacen muy buena pareja porque son 100% personalidades diferentes. Cero quejas de este apartado.
Very good movie, if you like science fiction and everything that has to do with space battles and robots this is for you. Plus the ending is very cool. It's made for everyone, it's very enjoyable, one of those hidden gems. It's less than two hours long so it's a quick watch. Here is the trailer.

This world is quite peculiar, since here only the strongest and smartest survive. On each roof, there is a masked man whose goal is to make new people commit suicide by throwing them off the building.

Comencé a ver este anime por aburrimiento, me acuerdo que lo comencé a ver con un amigo, pero no me gustó tantisimo como esperaba. No me mal entiendan, el anime tiene una trama interesante, como las de supervivencia que tanto me gustan, pero simplemente vi muchas críticas y opiniones sobre el anime, y a la hora de verlo no me emociono tanto como pensaba
I started watching this anime out of boredom, I remember I started watching it with a friend, but I didn't like it as much as I expected. Don't get me wrong, the anime has an interesting plot, like the survival ones I like so much, but I just saw many reviews and opinions about the anime, and when I watched it, it didn't excite me as much as I thought it would.
En algunas partes, siento que nuestra protagonista principal, pudo tomar mejores decisiones o hacer ciertas cosas más beneficiosas pero no fue así. También se esfuerzan por mostrarnos que poco a poco se ha vuelto un personaje fuerte y capaz, pero a veces esto es totalmente ignorado y hace algunas cosas que no se entienden basándonos en sus fortalezas y posibilidades
In some parts, I feel that our main protagonist, could have made better decisions or done certain things more beneficial but she did not. They also make an effort to show us that she has slowly become a strong and capable character, but sometimes this is totally ignored and she does some things that are not understood based on her strengths and possibilities.

El dibujo y los la vista en general no decepciona. Los momentos de pelea los lograron resaltar con un buen dibujo y buenos efectos especiales. A veces podemos ver series con un estilo de dibujo muy bueno, pero en los momentos cruciales o de acciones, puede fallar un poco, esto felizmente puedo decir que es algo que no veo que pase aquí.
The drawing and the view in general does not disappoint. The fighting moments were highlighted with a good drawing and good special effects. Sometimes we can see series with a very good drawing style, but in the crucial moments or actions, it can fail a little, this I can happily say is something that I don't see happening here.
Hay algo que de verdad no me gusto de esta serie, que en parte puedo entender y por otra parte no. El final de la primera temporada, luego de tanta acción y momentos de pelea, queda totalmente abierto, sin darnos un final minimamnete digno. Esto entiendo que lo hagan con el fin de enaltecer las ganas del espectador por la siguiente temporada, pero según lo que he visto, no existe una temporada 2, y el anime ya tiene más de 3 años de su estreno. Entiendo que ellos no plantearon que el anime no seguiría, pero también tuvieron que ponerse en todas las situación posibles, y por los menos cerrar ciertos temas de la primera temporada y dejar otros abiertos para la segunda, a mi parecer
There is something that I really didn't like about this series, which I can partly understand and partly not. The end of the first season, after so much action and moments of fighting, is totally open, without giving us a minimally worthy ending. I understand that this is done in order to enhance the viewer's desire for the next season, but according to what I have seen, there is no season 2, and the anime is more than 3 years old since its premiere. I understand that they didn't say that the anime would not continue, but they also had to put themselves in every possible situation, and at least close certain issues of the first season and leave others open for the second one, in my opinion.

Gabimaru, one of the most dangerous assassins of the Edo period in Japan, was caught on a mission and was taken to be beheaded, which did not work out because no executioner has managed to cut off his head. However, the feudal lord of that land takes him, along with a large group of assassins and criminals, each accompanied by executioners, to a mysterious island where an elixir that provides immortality is supposedly found. This is an alleged rumor that is going around since there have been cases of people who have literally lived hundreds of years and have not died for anything in the world.
Our dangerous and ruthless protagonist will have to fight with all the murderers and criminals to accomplish the mission and thus spare his life and then go home where his beloved wife is waiting for him. However, the problem of this island is that, of all those who have gone, none has returned alive. Upon arrival they realize that huge beings and dangerous creatures of all kinds await them. After watching this anime, I was convinced once again how amazing MAPPA studio is at animating such works with spectacular quality. Without exaggeration, this is one of the best animated anime I have ever seen. The visuals, the landscapes, the characters, the battles, the visual and sound effects, etc. It all makes this series a complete adventure filled with fantasy and lots of action. Not to mention that the construction of the story and characters are also very well done, perfectly combining action with fantasy, psychology, mystery and the supernatural in a plot that grabs you completely from the first episode.

Este es un ser frío y tranquilo que solo busca vivir el resto de su vida con su esposa. Y esta es como su fuente y principal motivación al enfrentarse siempre a monstruos y seres poderosos. Si bien hay momentos en el que se les muestra su lado humano, en el resto del anime se ve como un monstruo en forma de hombre, alguien a quien se le debe de temer. Y lo peor es que en toda la isla abundan muchos como él, los cuales se nos presentan a todos y cada uno.
Este anime tiene una mezcla de distintas culturas al mostrarnos un tipo de poder que no se ve mucho en los típicos animes “Shonen” de la actualidad. Y lo que es más interesante es el misterio que contiene dicho poder, el cual tal vez se confunda con la famosa inmortalidad que están buscando. Pero en realidad, más allá de contarnos detalladamente el origen de dicho poder y de los que lo poseen, podemos ver es una secuencia de luchas que nos dan a conocer el tipo de seres o criaturas que habitan en dicha isla, los cuales parecen una especie de sociedad o religión antigua. Finalmente, la forma en la que acaba dicho anime (lo cual da a pie una posible continuación) fue lo que me impactó más que cualquier cosa. Un anime que, sin lugar a dudas, tienes que ver si eres fan del género.

De las cosas que más me llaman la atención a la hora de ver un anime es su animación, para mi siempre tiene que ser lo más realista posible para que así sea más disfrutable. Este anime no escapa de las tipicas peleas, mutilaciones, decapitaciones y laceraciones en el cuerpo como tampoco de las altas velocidades y del siempre confiable slow motion. Al ser una historia en donde los ninjas o espadachines abundan es lo que más veremos. Esa combinación de lo fantasioso de las criaturas llenas de flores asesinas y raíces venenosas con el aspecto más tradicional de la cultura japonesa como lo son los clanes, el shogunato y los propios verdugos y toda la interacción que entre ellos hay es de lo más top de la historia. Ver a un samurái pelear con una flor gigante es surreal pero increíble.

Si me lo preguntan el verdadero motor de todos los personajes es el INTERÉS, todos luchan por algo que más allá de beneficiarlos a todos es en pro personal.

Como dije tiene cosas muy parecidas a lo que se ve en Attack On Titan o el mismo Dragon Ball pero no deja de ser algo muy bueno e ver. Son 13 capítulos de esta primera temporada. I give it an 7.7/10, it is a very strange anime but its story is fascinating. As I said it has things very similar to what is seen in Attack On Titan or Dragon Ball itself but it is still something very good to watch. There are 13 chapters of this first season. So I stumbled upon this lovely piece of work, Jigokuraku also known as Hell's paradise. Man,this anime is amazing. Well I wouldn't generalize the 'amazing' or get too excited about it because there would definitely still be some people out there who wouldn't consider the anime worth it and I'd rather stick with respecting people's opinion and not just mine.
Oh well, Hell's paradise is a 2023 anime created in MAPPA studio.

Hell's Paradise rotates around our main character,Gabimaru who was sentenced to death. Due to some powers he was unable to be killed. A day came and an opportunity met him. Although he refused at first but his wife was brought into the discussion. Gabimaru was given an offer. If he could go into paradise (an island) to retrieve the exlir of life then he'd be pardoned.
It actually can't be that easy,lol.
Did I forget to mention Gabimaru was really really strong? But nah,this island wasn't for humans but trust humans,we want what we can't have.
The exlir of life provided its consumer with eternal youth. No death,no wrinkling and no old age.

Para comenzar, es importante mencionar que este anime se encuentra ambientado en la historia antigua de Japón, específicamente durante la época del Periodo Edo (investiguen sobre la historia japonesa, es muy interesante), por lo cual, el país se encontraba gobernado por el ‘shogunato’. Ahora mezclemos este dato histórico con bastante fantasía, horror y acción, y tendremos a Hell’s Paradise 😌
Hell’s Paradise nos cuenta la historia de Gabimaru“El Vacío”, un ninja con diferentes habilidades y gran poder, que —debido a sus crímenes— es condenado a muerte. Y aquí comienza el primer problema, pues, Gabimaru es imposible de asesinar. No es que sea inmortal, simplemente ningún arma o técnica utilizada le hace daño, ¿su cuerpo es sumamente resistente debido a su entrenamiento shinobi, o Gabimaru simplemente no desea morir? Los oficiales se dan por vencidos en sus intentos de asesinar a este hombre, y contactan al Clan Yamada, un grupo de samuráis encargados de ejecutar a los mayores criminales.
To begin with, it's important to mention that this anime is set in ancient Japanese history, specifically during the Edo Period (do some research on Japanese history, it's very interesting), so the country was ruled by the 'shogunate'. Now mix this historical fact with plenty of fantasy, horror and action, and you have Hell's Paradise 😌
Hell's Paradise tells us the story of Gabimaru"The Hollow", a ninja with different abilities and great power, who -due to his crimes- is condemned to death. And here begins the first problem, because Gabimaru is impossible to assassinate. It is not that he is immortal, simply no weapon or technique used hurts him, is his body extremely resistant due to his shinobi training, or Gabimaru simply does not want to die? Considero que los personajes de Hell’s Paradise son el mayor atractivo del anime, pero me voy a enfocar en los dos protagonistas. Gabimaru es, sin duda, mi personaje favorito. No es el típico protagonista bueno, altruista y con grandes metas, no, Gabimaru es un asesino, y solo buscará salvarse a sí mismo para regresar a casa (aunque su motivo para luchar por su vida es demasiado hermoso 💖)

I consider the characters in Hell's Paradise to be the biggest draw of the anime, but I'm going to focus on the two main characters. Gabimaru is, without a doubt, my favorite character. He is a very realistic character, I like his perspective of the events, the way he handles himself in the crucial moments, he is a great ninja. As the chapters progress we realize that he will leave his nickname "The Hollow" behind; because the truth is that Gabimaru does have great feelings and motivations, he just didn't know them, or, better said, he hadn't given himself a moment to know himself, but -like almost every anime- he has a hard and dark past, a cruel shinobi training, that crush his true self. I will read the manga because I can't wait for the next seasons, I need Gabimaru to find peace.
Por otro lado, Sagiri es una mujer divina 💜 Ella busca romper con los estereotipos de su clan, se niega solo a estar enfocada en la crianza de los niños y el servicio de la casa, y busca su propio camino. Sabemos que ella es poderosa y fuerte, solo falta que ella lo sepa. Vemos como desde el principio duda de sus competencias, y eso la frena a demostrar todo el potencial que tiene. Pero igual que Gabimaru, su desarrollo se va mostrando en cada capítulo; poco a poco va tomando más seguridad en sí misma, convirtiéndose en un gran samurái 😌
On the other hand, Sagiri is a divine woman 💜 She seeks to break away from the stereotypes of her clan, refuses to just be focused on raising children and serving the household, and seeks her own path. We know she is powerful and strong, it just remains for her to know it. We see how from the beginning she doubts her competence, and that stops her from showing all the potential she has. But just like Gabimaru, her development is shown in each chapter; she gradually becomes more self-confident, becoming a great samurai 😌

Lo vuelvo a decir, aquí los personajes no brillan por su nobleza, y esa es una de las bases del anime. Los personajes principales son criminales, condenados a muerte por crímenes sangrientos; por lo tanto, se podría pensar que carecen de moral —y aunque algunos de ellos realmente no la tienen— los personajes que tienen mayor tiempo en pantalla son más profundos que su nivel de ética. The main characters are criminals, condemned to death for bloody crimes; therefore, you might think they lack morals - and while some of them really don't - the characters who get the most screen time are deeper than their level of ethics. So you gradually find yourself rooting for, and even empathizing with, these criminals. Each has a reason for being what they are now, and you even manage to understand it. The mangaka did an excellent job of developing this variety of stories ✨
Even among the Asaemon of the Yamada Clan, those samurai who are in charge of enforcing the law, there are some with dubious morals. In this shōnen things are not black and white, there is no such thing as good and bad, what there is is a gray that sometimes becomes darker or lighter. There are situations where there is no "right" choice, it's either die or kill. The characters have selfish motivations, they want their freedom and cannot be distracted to think about the fate of others. There are moments in the story where you reflect, "who is the good guy?". No one is. You must accept the characters as they are.
Si eres sensible con temas como la sangre y muertes grotescas, quizás Hell’s Paradise no sea del todo ideal para ti. La muerte está presente desde el primer capítulo hasta el último, en distintas maneras. Las escenas de lucha son fuertes, es más que solo una estocada en el corazón. Y presiento que eso continuará hasta el final de la historia.
Y aunque la muerte está muy presente, también es importante el tema de la inmortalidad. El comienzo de la historia es debido a la búsqueda de la inmortalidad, y la ironía está en que todos mueren buscándola. ¿Qué es la inmortalidad? ¿Qué pasará con la humanidad de las civilizaciones si se detiene el ciclo de la vida? Ya no serían seres humanos, se convertirían en algo más, ¿y realmente queremos “vivir” de esa manera? Me gusta como plantean la inmortalidad en el anime; como todo lo demás, no lo exponen como algo “bueno” o “malo”, te explican lo qué es, y queda en la reflexión de cada uno otorgarle un valor.
If you are sensitive to themes such as blood and grotesque deaths, Hell's Paradise may not be quite right for you. Death is present from the first chapter to the last, in different ways. The fight scenes are strong, it's more than just a lunge to the heart. And I have a feeling that will continue until the end of the story.
And although death is very present, the theme of immortality is also important. The beginning of the story is about the search for immortality, and the irony is that everyone dies searching for it. What is immortality? What will happen to the humanity of civilizations if the cycle of life is stopped? They would no longer be human beings, they would become something else, and do we really want to "live" that way? I like the way immortality is presented in the anime; like everything else, it is not presented as something "good" or "bad", they explain what it is, and it is up to the reflection of each one to give it a value.

La isla, hogar terrenal de los “Dioses”, es la gran cereza del pastel. Al principio nos presentan la isla como un paraíso divino, algo que va más allá de la simple comprensión humana, ¿pero como es que algo tan glorioso no deja que nadie salga con vida de allí? Lo que más me gustó fueron los detalles que caracterizan la isla; no es un sito divino. Es un lugar creado a base de la mezcla de diferentes religiones —como el budismo y taoísmo—; no está habitado por dioses, pero tampoco es una isla desierta, hay distintas clases de vida, seres misteriosos y desconocidos que pondrá a prueba tanto a los criminales como a los samuráis. Realmente, como dice el nombre, está más cerca de ser el infierno que el cielo.
El uso de la religión es muy interesante, especialmente la parte del taoísmo. En esta isla de fantasía se siguen las leyes de la fuerza del yin y yang, y de manera más suprema, la fuerza del “Tao”, la mayor fuente en la isla, y cuyo acceso no es apto para cualquier humano (sin embargo, tampoco es imposible). La isla se divide en tres áreas, la principal y centro de todo es llamada ‘Horai’, si allí se encuentran las deidades, se puede pensar que entonces allí estará el “Elixir de la vida”, ¿pero son Dioses los que viven allí?
The island, the earthly home of the "Gods", is the icing on the cake. At the beginning we are presented with the island as a divine paradise, something beyond simple human comprehension, but how is it that something so glorious doesn't let anyone get out of there alive? What I liked the most were the details that characterize the island; it is not a divine place. It is a place created based on the mixture of different religions -like Buddhism and Taoism-; it is not inhabited by gods, but it is not a deserted island either, there are different kinds of life, mysterious and unknown beings that will test both criminals and samurai. Really, as the name says, it is closer to being hell than heaven.
The use of religion is very interesting, especially the part of Taoism. On this fantasy island the laws of yin and yang force are followed, and more supremely, the force of 'Tao', the major source on the island, and whose access is not suitable for any human (however, it is not impossible either). The island is divided into three areas, the main one and center of everything is called 'Horai', if the deities are there, one would think that the "Elixir of Life" would be there, but are those who live there Gods?
