Cuando en marzo del 2019 se estrenó "Shazam!" Siempre pensé que era una película pequeña de superhéroes con un gran potencial que nunca fue aprovechado; siempre pensé que la historia de "Billy Batson" un chico que fue abandonado desde temprana edad fue el impulsor de una historia donde la necesidad de pedir ayuda no lo hace menos fuerte y justamente es eso lo que al final lo convierte en un inesperado héroe sin olvidar que tan joven en realidad es; esto me pareció genial porque mi conocimiento de lo referente a este héroe de DC Comics nunca se desarrolló esa etapa de la historia de Billy y me sorprendió de que estos héroes, siempre con un rostro sonriente y actitud positiva, en realidad tengas muchas cosas que superar para ser un mejor héroe; justamente esos temas son desarrollos en la secuela estrenada hace pocas semanas y que lamentablemente no tuvo la aceptación que se esperaba.
When March 2019 saw the release of "Shazam! " I always thought it was a small superhero movie with a great potential that was never tapped; I always thought that the story of "Billy Batson" a boy who was abandoned from an early age was the driver of a story where the need to ask for help does not make him less strong and precisely that is what in the end makes him an unexpected hero without forgetting how young he really is; I thought this was great because my knowledge of this DC Comics hero never developed that stage of Billy's story and I was surprised that these heroes, always with a smiling face and positive attitude, actually have many things to overcome to be a better hero; precisely those themes are developed in the sequel released a few weeks ago and unfortunately did not have the acceptance that was expected.
En "Shazam! Fury of the Gods", veremos cómo la vida de "Billy Batson" y sus hermanas y hermanos ha cambiado cuando hace dos años obtuvieron grandes poderes con tan solo decir la palabra "SHAZAM!"; aunque la fama obtenida por sus proezas no son las esperadas, ya que los habitantes de Filadelfia se refieren a este grupo de héroes como fiascos, pero eso no desanima a Billy de querer ser un héroe y mantener a su familia unida mientras luchan contra el crimen y la maldad, pero no todos mantienen ese gran motivo por lo heroico, porque algunos de ellos anhelan ser independiente o recuperar esa vida simple donde estudios, juegos o nuevos sentimientos es lo más importante para cada uno de ellos, pero una gran y poderosa amenaza aparece creando un gran caos en dos mundos creando una gran prueba de valor, amistad y fortaleza a este grupo de jóvenes hermanos que deberán de una vez por todas convertirse en héroes para salvar al mundo.
In "Shazam! Fury of the Gods", we will see how the lives of "Billy Batson" and his sisters and brothers have changed when two years ago they gained great powers just by saying the word "SHAZAM! "; although the fame obtained by their feats are not as expected, since the inhabitants of Philadelphia refer to this group of heroes as duds, but that does not discourage Billy from wanting to be a hero and keep his family together while fighting crime and evil, but not all of them keep that great motive for the heroic, because some of them long to be independent or recover that simple life where studies, games or new feelings is the most important thing for each of them, but a great and powerful threat appears creating a great chaos in two worlds creating a great test of courage, friendship and strength to this group of young brothers who must once and for all become heroes to save the world.
El anterior film demostró que la formula donde se suma diferentes géneros como el familiar, comedia, acción, drama y algo de terror, funcionó en un pequeño film el cual se basa en la historia de un chico de casi 16 años de edad experimenta grandes poderes; todo eso lo demostró el director David F. Sandberg quien en esta oportunidad quiso seguir usando esta fórmula aunque con más protagonismo de otros personajes con esto diré que en parte existe similitudes con el film anterior aunque la diferencia está en la producción donde se observa un mejor uso de CGI en varias escenas por ejemplo en los momentos heroicos, en el mundo de los dioses y en las criaturas a las cuales deben enfrentar; con esto debo hacer referencia que este film tuvo un presupuesto modesto para este tipo de producciones aunque en mi opinión su uso fue correcto y con esto quiero decir que estoy completamente convencido de que Sandberg se adecuó al presupuesto y decidió que momentos realizar dichas escenas y cuántos actores usar y así no aumentar el gasto en el uso del CGI.
El guion fue escrito por Henry Gayden y Chris Morgan; siendo completamente sincero, el guion es lo que me hace pensar si este es un buen o regular film y es que me parece extraño que esta historia tenga elementos que funcionen muy bien y en otros en realidad me hace pensar se puedo hacer algo mejor. Comenzaré haciendo referencia a lo que me gustó del film y es que se enfoca en cosas importantes como es la familia; más que nada la relación entre hermanos, la cual es un tema importante en esta franquicia y motiva al personaje principal a tratar de ser algo que parece no estar muy cómodo de ser, me refiero a ser un líder; eso junto al tema de como ser un héroe afecta a la vida de adolescentes o quienes deben enfrentar la vida de adultos, es algo que me gustó de la historia. Ahora, con respecto a lo que no me gustó, fue el cómo se escribió a quienes son los antagonistas del film; los cuales, así como hice referencia con anterioridad, el aspecto familiar también es muy importante y mi problema no va sobre eso, sino de como no se siente que estás tres personajes, "Las hijas de Atlas", sea un grave problema porque no parecen tal, no son amenazantes y tenía esperanza de que funcionarán como personajes, pero al final me hicieron recordar a los muchos villanos fallidos del MCU.
The previous film showed that the formula where different genres such as family, comedy, action, drama and some horror, worked in a small film which is based on the story of a boy of almost 16 years old experiences great powers; all this was demonstrated by the director David F. Sandberg who this time wanted to continue using this formula but with more prominence of other characters. Sandberg who in this opportunity wanted to continue using this formula although with more protagonism of other characters with this I will say that in part there are similarities with the previous film although the difference is in the production where a better use of CGI is observed in several scenes for example in the heroic moments, in the world of the gods and in the creatures to which they must face; with this I must make reference that this film had a modest budget for this type of productions although in my opinion its use was correct and with this I want to say that I am completely convinced that Sandberg adapted to the budget and decided which moments to perform such scenes and how many actors to use and thus not increase the expense in the use of CGI.
The script was written by Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan; being completely honest, the script is what makes me think if this is a good or regular film and it seems strange to me that this story has elements that work very well and in others it actually makes me think that something better can be done. I will start by referring to what I liked about the film and that is that it focuses on important things such as family; more than anything the relationship between siblings, which is an important theme in this franchise and motivates the main character to try to be something he seems not very comfortable being, I mean being a leader; that along with the theme of how being a hero affects the lives of teenagers or those who must face life as adults, is something I liked about the story. Now, regarding what I didn't like, was how the antagonists of the film were written; which, as I made reference before, the family aspect is also very important and my problem is not about that, but how it doesn't feel that these three characters, "Atlas' daughters", are a serious problem because they don't seem so, they are not threatening and I had hope that they would work as characters, but in the end they reminded me of the many failed villains of the MCU.
Una de las críticas negativas que puede leer de este film fue sobre las interpretaciones de Asher Ángel cómo "Billy Batson" y de Zachary Levi cómo "Shazam"; cada opinión sobre estos dos personajes era más que nada de lo diferente que eran uno con el otro y al ver la película, tengo una teoría sobre el porqué de la diferencia entre interpretaciones. En la película anterior, Billy todavía era un adolescente con dificultad para asociarse por miedo a ser rechazado o abandonado; en esta parte todavía debe lidiar con ese miedo y eso hace que ahora más que nunca dependa de su poderoso y heroico alter ego para así tener una presencia de líder, ser más confiado, fuerte y decidido a hacer muchas cosas y justamente eso hace que aflore una actitud en Billy que se nota infantil y es que al comienzo de la película, este personaje busca la ayuda "profesional" para que él pueda entender que debe hacer para ser tomado en serio y quién le aconseja le dice muchas verdades que él todavía decide rechazar y creo que por eso, en esta segunda parte vemos más a Shazam que a Billy; justamente mi crítica es que me hubiera gustado ver a Billy expresar su todavía temor al abandono, al estar solo sin usar la imagen de Shazam, creo que eso le da más profundidad al personaje y explica mejor la diferencia entre un personaje y otro; algo que lamento que críticos e influencers no supieron entender al ver el film.
One of the negative reviews you can read of this film was about the performances of Asher Angel as "Billy Batson" and Zachary Levi as "Shazam"; every opinion on these two characters was mostly about how different they were to each other and in watching the film, I have a theory as to why the difference between performances. In the previous movie, Billy was still a teenager with difficulty associating for fear of being rejected or abandoned; in this part he still has to deal with that fear and that makes that now more than ever he depends on his powerful and heroic alter ego to have a leadership presence, to be more confident, strong and determined to do many things and precisely that makes Billy's attitude to emerge and it is that at the beginning of the film, this character looks for "professional" help, this character seeks "professional" help so that he can understand what he must do to be taken seriously and who advises him tells him many truths that he still decides to reject and I think that's why in this second part we see more Shazam than Billy; just my criticism is that I would have liked to see Billy express his fear of abandonment, being alone without using the image of Shazam, I think that gives more depth to the character and better explains the difference between one character and another; something that I regret that critics and influencers did not understand when watching the film.
Personalmente, disfrute de Shazam! Fury of the Gods; no es mejor película que la anterior, pero eso no significa de que sea mala. Lamento que la decisión de los villanos para esta historia no fuera la mejor y eso debería ser culpa de los guionistas que no dieron un desarrollo acertado a esos personajes, creo que darle un mejor trato como se le dio al "Dr. Sivana" en la primera película hubiera funcionado en la secuela; lo otro es restar protagonismo al personaje de Billy para que ese rol lo tome el de "Freddy" interpretado por Jack Dylan Grazer que hace un gran trabajo y nuevamente lo considero como mi personaje favorito de esta (corta) franquicia, pero lamento que quien es protagonista no tenga muchos minutos en escena. Lo bueno de este film es que es divertido, el humor es algo fresco y eso es debido a la buena química entre los personajes; no teme en burlarse de sí mismo y de otras producciones basadas en comics de superhéroes y con esto debo decir que no es una sátira, solo que la comedia va dirigida a hacer referencia a ciertas escenas y héroes. Me gusta que sea una historia familiar que en esta oportunidad se enfoca en los hermanos más que en la relación de los padres aunque ese tema para Billy sigue siendo muy importante y es por eso que lamento que está película no tenga una tercera parte porque el apoyo en taquilla no fue el mejor y es que la lamentable falta de promoción, el apoyo del fandom y el equivocado rol de Dwayne Johnson al querer liderar el DCEU con "Black Adam", restó toda posibilidad de éxito para este film; sé que habrá personas que hagan referencia al desgaste de películas sobre superhéroes, lo cual estoy de acuerdo, pero estoy convencido de que todo lo antes citado fue muy influyente en la mala taquilla que tuvo "Shazam 2" que ni un mes pasó en si estrno en las salas de cines, para ya estar disponible en video on demand. Seguramente después del estreno de "The Flash" vendrá muchos cambios y habrá que esperar cuando deciden traer nuevamente a este héroe que con tan solo decir una frase, puede obtener muchos poderes provenientes de Dioses.
Personally, I enjoyed Shazam! Fury of the Gods; it's not a better movie than the previous one, but that doesn't mean it's bad. I regret that the decision of the villains for this story was not the best and that should be the fault of the screenwriters who did not give an accurate development to those characters, I think that giving them a better treatment as was given to "Dr. Sivana" in the first movie would have worked in the sequel. Sivana" in the first film would have worked in the sequel; the other thing is to subtract protagonism to Billy's character so that that role is taken by "Freddy" played by Jack Dylan Grazer who does a great job and again I consider him as my favorite character of this (short) franchise, but I regret that who is the protagonist does not have many minutes on stage. The good thing about this film is that it is fun, the humor is fresh and that is due to the good chemistry between the characters; it is not afraid to make fun of itself and other productions based on superhero comics and with this I must say that it is not a satire, only that the comedy is directed to make reference to certain scenes and heroes. I like that it is a family story that this time focuses on the siblings rather than the relationship of the parents although that theme for Billy is still very important and that is why I regret that this film does not have a third part because the box office support was not the best and the unfortunate lack of promotion, the support of the fandom and the wrong role of Dwayne Johnson wanting to lead the DCEU with "Black Adam", subtracted any possibility of success for this film; I know that there will be people who will make reference to the attrition of superhero movies, which I agree with, but I am convinced that all of the above mentioned was very influential in the poor box office that "Shazam 2" had, which didn't even spend a month in theaters before being available on video on demand. Surely after the premiere of "The Flash" many changes will come and we will have to wait when they decide to bring back this hero that just by saying a phrase, can get many powers from Gods.
