  1. CineTv Contest #18 - Tangled || My Love For Long Hairs@merit.ahama1469d

    IMG_20220620_185551.jpg

I honestly can't remember the last time I saw this animated movie but I can remember almost all the scenes in it like I saw it just yesterday... That is because it has something I love a lot in it... Long hairs.

This movie actually gave me more than long hairs to see... Abundance hairs is what I prefer to call it 😅 and I'm thinking it is the one thing that stands out as the reason I love this particular animated movie.

Tangled is a 2010 animated musical/comedy movie distributed by Walt Disney Pictures and is directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard. Well, that's not the most relevant thing for now since I'm only going to be focusing on the reasons I love this movie.

Maybe I should give a small plot of the movie just in case of any who haven't seen the movie before. And I hope you do see it soon, any animation lover will love this one too.

    A Short Plot

    IMG_20220620_185305.jpg

Tangled is a movie about an innocent and beautiful girl called Rapunzel who is locked up in a high tower by her over protective mother (Later found out she was not her mother). Rapunzel has really long hairs, long enough to get her mother from down the tower.

She was deceived by a smart thief named Flynn to take him up the tower with her long hairs and it led to so many interesting scenes. Her quest to see the world outside the tower, Rapunzel followed Flynn who takes her on an adventure even to the full knowledge of who she really was.

    IMG_20220620_185744.jpg

The movie also show a wicked lady who acted like Rapunzel's mother and helped take care of her long hairs because they were the source of her beauty and young age. Rapunzel obeyed her innocently until she left the tower and discovered the truth.

Another reason I love this animated movie as one of my favourite is the characters in it.

    IMG_20220620_185234.jpg

Rapunzel is my most favourite, the bearer of the longest hair I've seen both in reality and virtually... I know the movie is animated but the fact that I could see such a long hair gave me really good feeling, I imagined so many times having that long hairs.

Her bravery to leave her mother after so many years of being locked in, got me. And I love her innocency as she followed Flynn until she met her real parents who happened to be royals.

    IMG_20220620_190414.jpg

Flynn, my most favourite funny character in the movie and the smart thief that helped Rapunzel see the world outside. How he was able to deceive Rapunzel to get into the tower, his stealing skills and loving Rapunzel... All of it made me love this character.

One of the scenes I loved so much where he was in, was the one he cut short Rapunzel's hair to get rid of her wicked foster mother. I didn't like the fact that she lost her hair but it was worth it.

    IMG_20220620_190721.jpg

Mere looking at this picture got me laughing over again because this character, Maximum is a very funny one. He was the rescue royal horse for Rapunzel who helped her get to the Palace safely.

Every scene with Maximum in it was funny to me, making the movie more interesting to see.

    IMG_20220620_185839.jpg

From having her hair cut short, getting rid of Gothel, finding her parents and getting together with Flynn in love... This movie got me hooked up, smiling and feeling good. One of the memorable animated movies I've seen, it's one of my favourites because I do have so many favourite animated movies.

And that is it for my entry into the contest you're invited to join too.

  2. Disney's Tangled (2010)@dlstudios1557d

    image.png

I would like to think that this movie at least shows that I don't purely associate the original Disney feel with 3D animation, since that was the stretch of movies I claimed felt like Disney was just trying to be Pixar. Because I think even more than Princess and the Frog, this movie has a lot of that old Disney feel to it. I'm glad I decided to stick through the dirge of their first foray into 3D animation because I really liked this one.

This time based on the story of Rapunzel, she is stolen as a child and locked away so someone could make use of her magical hair to keep herself young forever. Of course, she eventually wants to go to the outside world to learn more about it. This eventually happens when a wanted man named Flynn Ryder stumbles across the tower. You can tell at this point that Disney and Pixar had a working relationship because the dialogue flows more like it does in a Pixar movie than anything I would have expected from classic Disney.

    T1.png

And while a lot of the humor and dialogue feel at home with Pixar, it feels like Disney in terms of presentation and theme. There is an air of wonder and whimsy throughout the entire film that would feel right at home in the older titles. It's a blast watching Rapunzel fight with herself over whether or not escape from the tower was right, and Flynn just trying to live out his childhood dream. And more so than just about any other movie, it's very easy to buy into them becoming romantically interested in movies end. Every character interaction in this movie is a lot of fun to watch. The main antagonist for Flynn, for part of the movie at least, is just a stubborn horse that got separated from the knight riding it.

I don't even have a huge criticism to levy against the movie either. It's just a beginning to end the very well-made movie. If there is something I will say about it that could be construed as bad, it's that it doesn't have anything in particular that stands out about it. It does everything very well, but the lack of anything hitting hard does mean that despite the quality, it's not likely to stick in your memory as much as others. Every high point of the movie was done in a better way in past titles. Mother Knows Best may be a great song, but it's not as good as Poor Unfortunate Souls, which is good for all the same reasons. The fast and fun fights are great, but not done as well as something like Alladin. I could go on, but I think you get the point. At the same time, it may have not done anything as well as the other movies but it's managed to do all the things it wants well.

I go into this movie not having any idea how it's going to place when I inevitably do my Ten favorite Disney Films because I think it's going to be placed based on how well this movie sticks in my mind. I can tell you that all the music, aside from Mother Knows best, is becoming a bit distant to me despite having seen this in the past couple of days, so the music isn't going to be the high point on a whole.

This is a good movie, and between this and Princess and the Frog, I'm just excited that some of that magic stayed even after that abysmal run of movies from Home on the Range to Meet the Robinsons. I can give the movie a recommendation, and I'm interested to see how strongly it stays in my mind come to the end of my Disney journey.

  4. Tangled - Movie Review@coldsteem2958d

Disney has a special way of creating animated feature films.  I have had enough of the whole Disney Princess thing.  And just when I think they have made or remade every princess story they churn out another one.  The story of Rapunzel is different enough to provide a nice platform for more Disney magic.  So I will admit it...Tangled was pretty darn good.  Princess and all.

When a sunbeam falls from the heavens and lands in a Kingdom (somewhere in Once Upon A Time), a special healing flower sprouts.  This flower is discovered by an evil hag (Donna Murphy) who keeps the flower hidden under a basket as her own personal Fountain of Youth.  When the pregnant queen falls gravely ill, the entire kingdom sets out to find the rare flower.  The flower is plucked and mixed into a potion which helps the queen recover, delivering a beautiful gold-locked daughter, Rapunzel (Mandy Moore).

The hag realizes that this newborn princess has hair that possesses the healing quality of her flower.  When she cuts a lock, the entire strand of hair dies.  So she steals the child and locks her in a tower.  The hag is able to retain her youthfulness by having her daughter sing to her, igniting the healing power of her magic hair.  The hags attempts to hide the child from her destiny are challenged by a handsome young vagabond, Flynn Rider (Zachary Levi) who stumbles upon the tower while hiding from the Captain of the Guard.  Together, Flynn and Rapunzel set out on a journey of self discovery.

Rapunzel has seen many iterations in literature over the centuries.  Tangled elevates her to the status of princess, where she was, at one time, merely a serf.  It is the prince who finds her that bestows royalty on her.  The story is based on an 1812 tale by the Brothers Grimm.  Their story, however, appears to be the reincarnation of a 1698 story called Persinette by Charlotte-Rose de Caumont de La Force.  This story, in turn, bears resemblances to a tenth century Persian story of Rudaba.

Tangled adds its own new twists to this often manipulated story.  Keeping consistent with their never-ending princess theme, they have promoted Rapunzel to princess by birthright.  They have given her magic hair and made her prince a wanted thief.  In the process of reinventing the tale, Dan Fogelman manages to create intriguing characters and a plot that has a typical fairy tale ending.  While the story is contrived, it is done artfully with an eye toward pulling together the loose ends for the mandated "happily ever after."

I enjoyed Tangled.  It had great animation, a typically Disney soundtrack (a good thing) and a cast of wacky but lovable characters.  There were times when the voice-overs gave the impression of a sound stage with an almost distant quality in the dialogue.  That surprised me given the high quality of Disney films.  But those moments were not excessively distracting.  The story was an interesting twist on a classic that dates back (possibly) ten centuries.  An interesting, well constructed remake.  7.5/10.
