In mid 2000s Hollywood has, particularly thanks to the George W. Bush in White House, sought to present itself as a kind of conscience and the moral compass fir America. Hollywood stars, actors, and producers competed to criticise the political and economic institutions of their country with increasing sharpness, portraying themselves as defenders of the disenfranchised and oppressed victims of a cruel and hypocritical capitalist system.

However, this represented sharp contrast to Clinton years when Hollywood had played a different tune and the USA was seen as the best of all possible worlds. It wasn’t difficult to predict how Hollywood would switch when Democrat enters White House.

One such film is The Pursuit of Happyness by Italian director Gabriele Muccino, based on the autobiographical book by Chris Gardner, a successful and wealthy African American businessman who was forced to live as a homeless person in San Francisco with his son before starting his career. The film, which depicts the true story of achieving the American Dream, was a significant success with American audiences at the end of last year and was nominated for an Oscar.

While many attribute the film's success to the stellar performances of Will Smith and his young son Jaden, it can also be explained by American audiences' fatigue with Hollywood leftism, or a desire for refreshing narratives that challenge the unwritten rules of "political correctness."

The Pursuit of Happyness, in its fundamental thesis—that the American Dream works and that an individual, regardless of race and background, can achieve wealth and success—represents an antithesis to Hollywood's limousine liberalism, which posits that the plight of the poor and oppressed can only be improved through government intervention. This antithesis can also be identified in subtle and "politically incorrect" details— the protagonist, as a single father, undermines the feminist dogma of maternal superiority; a large corporation, without hesitation, chooses a Black high school graduate over a multitude of white, educated candidates for a responsible position; instead of altruistic social services, the protagonist receives help at a crucial moment from a priest, and so on.

Viewers who are not overly concerned with the ideological subversiveness of The Pursuit of Happyness will not be overly thrilled, but neither will they be disappointed. The film lacks a villain, which is justified given that it is based on a true story unencumbered by Hollywood conventions. On the other hand, this absence results in a lack of strong dramatic tension, making the ending anticlimactic, and certain details—like the symbolic resolution of a Rubik's Cube—feel superfluous. Although somewhat lengthy and at times overly sentimental, The Pursuit of Happyness nonetheless represents a solidly crafted Hollywood product that, by all accounts, signals the path the American film industry is likely to take very soon.

Happy weekend to all movie lovers, welcome once again to my blog! While watching TV, I came across a movie on TNT channel, which by the way I had not seen for a while, or rather I had only seen a part of it, and this time I was able to see it from the beginning to the end. Most of the audience knows this great and thoughtful production, which, I highlight one of the actors that stood out the most in the filming; Will Smith; an actor that I have loved since I saw him develop his role in I Am Legend, another great success of his career. Now, so I won't get sidetracked, today I will talk to you about the movie titled, Pursuit of Happiness, released in 2006, a drama genre. Without further ado, if you haven't seen it, I invite you to stay and watch it until the end (you can see it on Netflix platform), and if you have seen it, I hope to read your commentary on the impact of this work in your life.
¡Feliz fin de semana a todos los amantes del cine! ¡Bienvenidos una vez más a mi blog! Mientras veía la televisión, me topé con una película en el canal de TNT, que por cierto tenía rato que no visualizaba, mejor dicho había solo visto una parte de ella y pues esta vez, la pude ver desde el principio hasta el final. La mayoría de la audiencia conoce esta gran y reflexiva producción, la cual, resalto a uno de los actores que más destacó en la filmación; Will Smith; un actor que me ha encantado desde que lo vi desenvolver su papel en Soy Leyenda, otro gran éxito de su carrera. Ahora sí, para no desviarme, hoy les hablaré de la película titulada, En busca de la felicidad, publicada en el año 2006, de género drama. Sin más preámbulos, si no la has visto, te envito a que te quedes y leas hasta el final (puedes verla en la plataforma de Netflix), y si la has visto, espero leer tu comentario sobre el impacto de esta obra en tu vida.

Pursuit of Happiness tells the story of Gardner, a father who, after his wife leaves him, decides to move forward with his young son Christopher. From that moment on, we will begin to go through the most difficult moments that this father has to go through with his son, trying to find a place to live and a stable job in order to achieve the happiness of having economic stability. I should point out that the movie was not even halfway through and I was already shedding tears, I felt frustrated and bad for Gardner, since he really just wanted to have a better quality of life, but everything went wrong. And this is one of the things I loved about this production, the great message it leaves you with. From the beginning we will see a man who keeps going, who does not give up, that even though things do not go as he expects, he keeps shaking and getting up as if nothing had happened, with that great hope that everything will improve in his life and thus give the best to Christopher.
En busca de la felicidad, narra la historia de Gardner un padre que desde que su esposa lo abandona, decide seguir adelante con su pequeño hijo llamado Christopher. A partir de ese momento, comenzaremos a recorrer los instantes más dificiles que tiene que atravesar este padre con su hijo, al intentar encontrar un lugar para vivir y un trabajo estable con el fin de alcanzar esa felicidad de tener estabilidad económica. Debo resaltar, que la película no había llegado a la mitad y ya estaba soltando lágrimas, me sentía frustrada y mal por Gardner, ya que, realmente él sólo quería tener una mejor calidad de vida, pero todo le salía mal. Y esto es una de las cosas que me encantó de esta producción el gran mensaje que te deja. Desde el comienzo veremos a un hombre que sigue adelante, que no se rinde, que a pesar de que las cosas no salen como él espera, sigue sacudiéndose y levantándose como si nada hubiera pasado, con esa gran esperanza de que todo mejore en su vida y así brindarle lo mejor a Christopher.

As the filming progresses things are getting worse, for a moment I thought that the father would leave the towel. And sometimes we don't know what to do, we just cry with helplessness because you want to achieve so many things, but you feel how all the doors close in your face, it's very strong. Later on, we see how Chris Gardner was able to be issued to a famous recruitment program of a finance company, so he must give the best of him to be hired, you can imagine his happiness, to think that he was just steps away from a 360º turn in his life, clearly he would not receive any salary, but his hopes still remained. Chris, is a clear example that if you set goals, and fight for them, you will achieve them. But the key is, as I have always mentioned, perseverance and believing that you are capable of achieving success no matter the obstacles.
A medida que avanza la filmación las cosas van empeorando, por momento pensé que el padre dejaría la toalla. Y es que a veces no sabemos que hacer que sólo lloramos de impotencia porque quieres lograr tantas cosas, pero sientes como todas las puertas se cierran en tu rostro, es muy fuerte. Más adelante, vemos como a Chris Gardner lo logran emitir a un famoso programa de captación de una empresa de finanzas, por lo que, debe dar lo mejor de él para ser contratado, se podrán imaginar su felicidad, pensar que estaba a solo pasos de que su vida diera un giro de 360º, claramente no recibiría ningún salario, pero sus esperanzas aún se mantenían. Chris, es un claro ejemplo de que si te propones metas, y luchas por ello, lo alcanzarás. Pero la clave está como siempre lo he mencionado en la perseverancia y en creer que eres capaz de alcanzar el éxito no importando los obstáculos.

Regarding the main characters, I loved how Will plays the role, he is a pro in this area of acting, I really admire him a lot. Jaden, Will's son in real life, for a child plays his role incredibly well, he looks very natural and calm. I really don't have anything negative to say about it. The atmosphere, was quite in line with the whole plot. And on the other hand, what had the most impact on the filming were the thoughts that were undoubtedly very conisdered and super powerful, among them I highlight; "If you have a dream you have to protect it. People who can't do something will tell you that you can't do it either. If you want something go for it, period" And to close, you have to see the ending, I cried from so much joy.
Con respecto a los protagonistas, me encantó como Will interpreta el papel, es un pro en esta área de la actuación, realmente lo admiro muchísimo. Jaden, hijo de Will en la vida real, para ser un niño desenvuelve su papel de manera increíble, se ve muy natural y tranquilo. Realmente, no tengo nada negativo que expresar con respecto a ello. El ambiente, estuvo bastante acorde a toda la trama. Y por su parte, lo que más impacto trajo consigo la filmación fueron los pensamientos que sin duda fueron muy conisderados y súper poderosos, entre ellos resalto; "Si tienes un sueño tienes que protegerlo. Las personas que no son capaces de hacer algo te dirán que tú tampoco puedes. Si quieres algo ve a por ello y punto" Y para cerrar, tienes que ver el final, lloré de tanta alegría.

Finally, it is a feature film full of many scenes to reflect on, the main character is a clear example of overcoming and courage. How would you define happiness?

People over time have defined it in different ways, but everyone agrees with something and that is that happiness is what it feels like to be fully satisfied by enjoying what you want or by enjoying something good. And this feeling of happiness comes after having endured many trials and tribulations. And that's exactly what we see in the movie "The pursuit of happines" from 2006 starring Will Smith and Son of him Jaden Smith, and that it is based on the true story of Chris Gardner.

The first impression I saw of this film was:

Jesus, Chris is a man is super Salado!

Since all the disappointments and bad things happen to Chris Gardner, but of course I didn't understand any of that adult life stuff very well, since I was a simple no of about 10 years old when I first saw that movie, but now that I face every day the reality of life I think:

Jesus, I already look like Chris Gardner!

And although so far I have not had to sleep in a public bathroom, I have had to cry inconsolably because I cannot support my family, or I have had to choose to eat myself or my wife because the money is not enough, or choose between food or medicine. That is why now that I have seen it again, I can identify very well with Will Smith's performance, since it is a reality that many people live today where everything is increasingly difficult and where it is almost impossible to achieve happiness.

The plot of the movie The Pursuit of Happiness focuses on the life of Chris Gardner, and his constant struggle to give his son the best life. Chris suffers one disappointment after another, first he is unemployed, he is kicked out of the place where he lives because he can't pay the rent, Chris' wife, tired of living in distress, abandons him and also leaves their young son, Christopher Jr. In addition, Chris lives a desperate situation since he has to live in a shelter with his son, but because of problems with other people he decides that it is not safe for him and his son, so his adverse situation leads him to disappointment after disappointment, but in the end there seems to be a ray of hope and that is when his life begins to give a real change.

This film directed by Gabriele Muccino, touches the deepest of human feelings and also leaves us a clear lesson for all viewers, and that is that dreams are achieved with effort and perseverance and that true happiness is in enjoying moments with those you love and that, although everything is extremely difficult if you are with your family you have everything.

Chris never slept or gave up, although life only gave him lemons, he put all his effort and learned to make lemonade as the saying goes. For example, when he was kicked out of his house he looked for a way to keep his little boy safe and protected and when he was not accepted for a job he looked for another and another. He also enjoyed spending time with his son, whether it was laughing with him or teaching him valuable life lessons.

Another lesson I could see from this incredible movie, is that when Chris achieves what he is looking for he doesn't brag or boast about it to those who didn't give him opportunities, but with everything he had he helped those going through the same situations he went through, and to this day the real life Chris Gardner continues to help as a philanthropist and motivational speaker.

So, if you are looking for a good family movie that also leaves good life lessons, I highly recommend The Pursuit of Happiness, because not only you will be able to identify yourself, but you will feel all the emotions that Chris felt throughout the movie.

And to conclude we return to the question from the beginning: How would you define happiness? In my case, I define it as doing what does not give much satisfaction, but always keeping in mind the most important thing, not getting sidetracked by things that are not worth it, and always being with the family, since it is the love and warmth of a family that sustains us in the most difficult moments.

¿Como definirías la felicidad?

Las personas a lo largo del tiempo lo han definido de diferente manera, pero todos concuerdan con algo y es que la felicidad es lo que se siente al estar plenamente satisfecha por gozar de lo que desea o por disfrutar de algo bueno. Y este sentimiento de felicidad viene luego de haber aguantado muchas pruebas y tribulaciones. Y eso es exactamente lo que vemos en la película "The pursuit of happines" del 2006 protagonizada por Will Smith y su Hijo Jaden Smith, y que la misma está basada en la historia real de Chris Gardner.

La primera impresión que vi de esta película fue:

¡Jesús, Chris es hombre es super salado+!

Ya que todas las decepciones y coas malas le pasan a Chris Gardner, pero claro no entendía muy bien nada de eso de la vida adulta, ya que era un simple no de unos 10 años cuando vi por primera vez esa película, pero ahora que me enfrento cada día a la realidad de la vida pienso:

¡Jesús, ya me parezco a Chris Gardner!

Y aunque hasta los momentos no me ha tocado dormir en un baño público, si me ha tocado llorar desconsoladamente porque no puedo mantener a mi familia, o me ha tocado elegir comer yo o mi esposa porque el dinero no alcanza, o elegir entre la comida o las medicinas. Por eso ahora que la he vuelto a ver, me puedo identificar muy bien con la actuación de Will Smith, ya que es una realidad que viven muchas personas hoy en día donde todo está cada vez más difícil y donde es casi imposible alcanzar felicidad.

La trama de la película The pursuit of happines se enfoca en la vida de Chris Gardner, y su constante lucha por darle la mejor vida su hijo. Chris sufre una decepción tras otra, lo primero se queda sim empleo, lo botan del lugar de donde vive porque no puede pagar la renta, la esposa de Chris harta de vivir en zozobra lo abandona y tambien deja a su pequeño hijo Christopher Jr. Además, Chris vive una situación desesperante ya que tiene que vivir en un albergue con su hijo, pero por problemas con otras personas decide que no es seguro para él y su hijo, así que su situación adversa lo lleva aúna decepción tras otra, pero al final parece haber un rayo de esperanza y es cuando su vida comienza a dar un verdadero cambio.

Esta película dirigida por Gabriele Muccino, toca en lo más profundo de los sentimientos humanos y tambien nos deja una clara lección para todos los espectadores, y es que los sueños se alcanzan con esfuerzo y constancia además de que la verdadera felicidad está en disfrutar momentos con aquellos que amas y que, aunque todo este sumamente difícil si estas con tu familia lo tienes todo.

Chris nunca se durmió o rindió, aunque la vida solo le daba limones, él puso todo su esfuerzo y aprendió a hacer limonada como dice el dicho. Ya que cuando le venía una decepción que lo tumbaba al piso, él se levantaba y seguía adelante buscando otra opción, por ejemplo, cuando lo botaron de su casa el busco la manera de mantener seguro y protegido a su pequeño y cuando no lo aceptaban en trabajos buscaba otro y otro. Y además disfrutaba mucho los momentos con su hijo, ya sea riéndose con él o enseñándole lecciones valiosas de vida.

Otra lección que pude ver de esta increíble película, es que cuando Chris logra conseguir lo que tanto busca no hace alardes o se lo presume a aquellos que no le dieron oportunidades, sino que con todo lo que tenía ayudaba a aquellos que pasan por las mismas situaciones que el paso, y hasta el día de hoy el Chris Gardner de la vida real sigue ayudando como filántropo y con charlas motivacionales.

Así que, si estas buscando ver una buena película familiar que tambien deje buenas lecciones de vida, te recomiendo totalmente The pursuit of happines, ya que no solo te podrás identificar, sino que sentirás todas las emociones que sintió Chris a lo largo de la película.

Y para concluir volvemos a la pregunta del principio: ¿Como definirías la felicidad? Yo en mi caso la defino como hacer lo que no da mucha satisfacción, pero teniendo en cuenta siempre lo más importante, no desviarnos por cosas que no lo valen, y siempre estando con la familia, ya que es el amor y el calor de una familia lo que nos sostiene en los momentos más difíciles.

The best father is the one who manages to sustain his family through all the difficulties and makes an effort to fulfill all his responsibilities towards them. He doesn't have to be perfect, just a good role model is enough for me because I know that many people look up to their family, especially their father.

I love my father and I thank God that he is still with us despite his advanced age. Over time I have become a father myself and I am aware of the heavy responsibilities of fatherhood. Being a father is one of the best feelings in the world, but according to my father, having grandchildren is one of the best feelings in the world. I don't object because I don't have grandchildren yet! lol.

Chris Gardner, the lead and father character of the movie, was played by Will Smith. Chris' son Christopher was played by Jaden Christopher Syre Smith. In other words, Will Smith starred in the same movie with his son Jaden.

There is no better reason to watch The Pursuit of Happyness, Will Smith doesn't need to act throughout the movie. When you watch the movie, you can understand that what happens between him and his son is improvised.

The reason why I initially gave my own description of what a good father figure should look like is that while watching the movie The Pursuit of Happyness, I realized that Chris Gardner more than meets all the criteria.

One of the most difficult moments for a father is not being able to put bread on the table. Not being able to fulfill his child's rightful request.

The movie reflects all these events to the audience very well through Chris. Unable to make ends meet due to work problems, Chris is first abandoned by his wife, but despite all the negativity he experiences, he does not leave his son. Life can sometimes be unbearable when you add the mishaps in the ordinary flow of life.

I was unemployed during the pandemic and continued to be unemployed for a year and a half due to the negative process. My father, my mother and my siblings were my biggest supporters during this bad time that I don't want to remember. I don't watch this movie very often. In fact, I have a greater desire to avoid it. This is a movie that I came to see without knowing anything about it except that it was a movie starring Will Smith.

It is the story of a father who is living hard day by day. The main character, Chris, doesn't perform very well, but he sells medical devices that cost more than similar products. His wife works overtime and overtime at the laundry, but his family's circumstances do not improve. He used to think that, my beloved son is so helpless that I have to send him to kindergarten, where all he can do is watch TV all day. Unable to bear the rent and taxes, her wife abandons her husband and children and leaves for New York.

In the end, Chris was kicked out of her rented house and stayed with her child in a shabby motel. He works as an intern for six months without a penny salary and needs to be evaluated. His written exam must be almost perfect, and his achievements during his internship mean only one person out of over 20 people is hired. Chris gets kicked out of the motel room as well.

The night he had to go home holding his son he loved so much, he hugs his sleeping son and weeps hot. Since then, he has had to stand in endless lines every day to get into the homeless quarters provided by the church. Others work solely on internships, but Chris has to take care of his son and find a place to sleep that day.

The story that Chris' son Christopher told his father in the middle of the movie is very impressive.

Wow ... an american movie about poor "people", that is completely free of political correctness and sentimentality. I did not see that coming. And Will Smith, the rapper and Men In Black guy !! He is surprisingly good in this movie and really fits the role perfectly. And his own son plays the son and does it very good for a kid his age. Probably helps that it is his own daddy playing his movie daddy, but still.

This movie shows in all its glory, how a simple little story about a simple little family, may actually be one of the most engaging and touching stories you can imagine. I am not going on an hyperbole here, I just want to point out how satisfying it is to experience that there are actually still movie makers who find it worthwhile to tell those little stories about "ordinary" people going through hard times. Maybe it is very difficult to do it right, maybe that is why they are so rare. But this one should prove that it certainly still is possible (even if it has been 14 years since its premiere).

This is based on a true story about a man Chris Gardner, who was homeless for a year in the early 1980´s, trying to make ends meet for his family. While working as a self established salesman of some hospital equipment, he is steadily losing his touch and income is steadily falling. When they are forced to postpone taxes and rent and so on, the wife and mother of their son, leaves.

Chris thinks he has found a way out of his futile attempts at keeping up his income and applies for a job as a broker in a big company. But it seems that every time he gets one step ahead, fate intervenes and kicks him two steps back. He is constantly placed between a rock and a hard place and dilemmas keep piling up everywhere together with a set of rather stupid decisions along the way.

But even if it gets tough at times and he has to stay in a public toilet over the night at some point, he keeps going for the chance he believes he has. He has to make decisions and he has to balance between what can be gained now and what can possibly be gained in the future.

Trusting that the future will at some point hold something that is better than what he has now, eventually gets him out of his misery. The journey is not always fun going to the point where you need to be. You only have your own judgment to trust and that is what it is all about.

I liked that this story is toned down to a gentle everyday pace. It takes its time to build a notion of a grinding, day after day, attempt at keeping your nose above water, without becoming dull or boring at all. You care about Chris and his uphill battle to keep his life and family together, even when everything seems so utterly hopeless that you hardly understand where he gets the energy and stamina. It helps here that I t is a true story as it adds a sense of reality to it and the director clearly has a respect for how this man is portrayed.

It is also nice to see a story about a man taking the responsibility for a child and not the usual, the mother who grabs the child and gets the government to threaten the father away. The child is also quite positive and cooperative, while still emotionally present several times which makes it all believable. Even if the kids arc is not that big and he is dragged around from here to there all the time, it never feels like it encumberes the story.

A few times the story threatens to halt a bit, but then a new turn raises the interest again and carries it further. it stays true to telling a personal story of the main character and only uses other characters as plot structure. There is no lecturing or propagandising everywhere. There are even semi critical comments on the government just sticking their hands into peoples bank accounts to take the money they claim are theirs. Not something you hearer every day.

The emotional impact is all the more greater when a rare emotional moment appears and you really feel the words ring true and the connection between the son and his father is real. it can be a bit of a tear jerker at times specially if you understtand and can sympathise with the situation.

It is not sentimental at all, except maybe for a very few situations that is used to keep an emotional ambivalence in how to interpret the main characters personality. It is not all "the american dream" but also ideas about what happiness is and where to find it. And most incredibly, the broker business is not demonised as it usually is in any Hollywood movie you may find. I cannot remember when I last saw a movie dealing with this business making such a neutral characterisation. How nice that this is still possible. It actually makes it possible for you to bring your own ideas into the movie and build the experience for yourself. Thank you.

This is a bit of a rare gem in an otherwise social justice tilted business. I really loved it and the only little beefs I may have is that it may be about ten minutes too long and to be a real masterpiece, it has to have even more depth in the main character and the relation between the family members, which at times was a little weak and predictable. And why do we need to get the "this is what happened to the real man in the years after" text at the end. it draws it all down a nudge for me every time. Let the story stand for itself.

But it is a very good movie about a mans personal struggles in a world the pretty much do not give a damn about him and to make people give a Daman, he has to convince them that he can bring some value. This is an essential reality of any persons interaction with beings and this one gives the free market, non socialist angle, which I appreciate so much.

The intentionally misspelled film The Pursuit of Happyness is one of my favorite movies ever and is one of the only times that Will's kid Jaden has done well in a movie - that might remain the case as his completely undeserved ego continues to plague his life.

While Will has in the past taken roles in films that defintely hurts his "cred" as a serious actor (think "Men in Black" and Wild Wild West"), this movie should really be a part of an anthology clip as to why he is one of the best actors alive today.

This movie has so many tear-jerking moments and perhaps the presence of Will's actual child playing the role of "his child" in the movie has some sort of impact on Will's absolutely incredible performance in this film that got him nominated for Golden Globes and Oscars alike.

I have seen this movie 5 times or so and I would gladly do so again because it just feels good when you see it. I am brought to the verge of tears nearly every time even though I know exactly what is going to happen when I watch it. Will Smith is genuinely perfect in his performance and Jaden does well also. When i think about my life growing up with Will Smith being the "Fresh Prince" it is really amazing to me that he has come so far in life.

On a scale of "Urgh!" to "Wowsers!" I give The Pursuit of Happyness the overall score of just barely....

This film is intentionally spelled wrong, it is explained why in the movie but I'm not going to ruin that for you. I prefer when Will Smith does non action roles because this is where I feel he truly shines and shows how wonderful an actor he really is.

The movie follows the real-life struggles of Chris Gardner (Will Smith) and documents his rather extreme problems he faces at achieving success after a bad investment actually results in him being penniless and homeless for nearly a year. Not only does he have the face the difficulties of losing everything but he also has his young son with him. I was unaware the film was a true story until the very end, and that, in my mind, makes the story even more impactful.

It is a wonderful motivator about how people should never give up, despite the level of hardship they may face and it also shows how horrible people can be towards those who are a bit downtrodden.

The movie also features the now bat-s**t crazy Jaden Smith playing Garnder's son in the movie. Jaden actually does a very good job in this and he would go on later to make one other decent film before descending into celebrity madness at a much younger-than-normal age.

This movies is a tear-jerker and I believe it to be one of Will's best performances ever. It is also one of Jaden's best, but that isn't saying near as much.
