So,
Sometimes you watch a movie because everyone says it's great. Sometimes you watch one because the trailer looks fun. Then there are movies like War Dogs. I watched it because I thought it was another crime comedy. I was expecting something with a few action scenes and nothing more.. After finishing it I realized this movie is actually much smarter than I expected.
The best thing about War Dogs is that it feels unbelievable even though its based on events. While watching I kept asking myself "Did this actually happen?" The idea that two ordinary young guys could end up making millions of dollars by selling weapons to the US government sounds like something Hollywood would make up.. Knowing that its inspired by a true story makes everything even crazier.
This movie follows David Packouz played by Miles Teller.So David is just trying to figure life out in this movie. He have no job. He wants to earn money and support the people's he truly loves. He feels like a real person who keeps looking for one opportunity that might finally change his life.
That is one reason why I liked him. He feels real. He makes mistakes. Sometimes he knows something is wrong,
The movie also casted Efraim Diveroli played by Jonah Hill.
Honestly every time he appeared on screen I had no idea what he was going to do
He is funny. Confident. Loud. Smart. Manipulative.. Dangerous at the same time.

Jonah Hill gives one of the performances of his career here. He makes Efraim someone you enjoy watching. At the same time someone you would never fully trust. Every smile feels like he is hiding another plan. Every promise sounds convincing until a minutes later when everything falls apart.
The chemistry between Miles Teller and Jonah Hill is probably the reason this movie works so well.
They feel like friends,
They joke around together,
They argue,
They celebrate,
They fight,
As their business grows their friendship slowly changes too. Money has a way of changing people and this movie shows that perfectly.
* One thing I really enjoyed was how the movie explains the arms business without making it confusing.
Before watching I knew nothing about government contracts or international weapon deals. I thought those things were handled by giant companies with endless money.
War Dogs shows that sometimes the system has loopholes and people are willing to take risks to take advantage of them.
* The movie never tries to make the business look simple. There are problems. Late shipments. Dangerous people. Corrupt officials. Endless paperwork. Every deal feels like it could collapse at any moment.

That constant pressure keeps the movie exciting even though there are not traditional action scenes.
* I also liked how the movie mixes comedy with moments.
Some scenes made me laugh because of how ridiculous the situation became.
Then a few minutes later everything becomes tense and you suddenly remember these characters are dealing with weapons and dangerous criminals.
That balance keeps the movie interesting from beginning to end.
The direction deserves a lot of credit too.
Todd Phillips is mostly known for comedy movies. Here he proves he can tell a crime story without losing his sense of humor.

I never looked at the clock while watching,

Underneath all that success there is always a feeling that something bad is waiting around the corner.
That feeling slowly grows stronger as the movie continues.
* `Another thing that impressed me was how realistic the conversations felt.`
People interrupt each other.

They make promises they cannot keep.
Nobody gives speeches just to sound smart.
It feels natural.
It feels like people talking of movie characters reading a script.
Visually the movie is not trying to impress you with effects.
Instead it focuses on places and believable situations.
Whether the characters are sitting in an office or visiting another country everything feels grounded.
That makes the story more believable.
By the halfway point I realized this movie is not really about guns.
It is about greed.
It is about ambition.
It is about how success can change someones personality.
It asks a question.
How far would you go if someone suddenly offered you money than you ever imagined.
That question stayed in my mind while watching because there is no answer.

Overall the first half completely surprised me.
I expected a crime movie.
Instead I found an entertaining and sometimes uncomfortable story about friendship business and the price people are willing to pay for success.
Honestly I could not wait to see how everything would eventually fall apart

*Nothing good was going to last*
Every deal was getting bigger. Every risk was becoming more dangerous. The money kept growing. So did the problems. It almost felt like watching someone build a house on weak ground. From away it looks impressive but deep down you know it can collapse at any moment.
That is what makes War Dogs so interesting.
It is not really about guns.
It is not really about war.
It is about people who believe they are smarter than everyone until reality finally catches them.The movie never rushes toward the ending. Instead it slowly builds pressure. Every new opportunity brings another problem. Every success creates another lie. Every lie becomes harder to hide.
* I actually liked that.
Many crime movies focus on the exciting parts of making money. They show cars big houses and parties like that is all there is. War Dogs shows those things too. It also shows the stress behind them.
David starts changing as the money comes in.

At first he only wants a life. He wants to support his family and stop worrying about bills. That goal feels understandable.. Once success arrives he starts ignoring things he would never have accepted before.
That felt real to me.
People rarely become bad overnight.
Most of the time it happens one decision at a time.
One excuse becomes another excuse.
Then another.

Before they realize it they are living a different life.
Efraim on the hand keeps becoming more unpredictable.
He starts believing he cannot lose.
That confidence slowly turns into arrogance.
He thinks he can outsmart everyone.
The government.
Business partners.
Criminals.
Even his closest friend.
Watching that confidence slowly destroy everything was honestly one of the parts of the movie.
* Jonah Hill deserves much credit for that performance.
He makes Efraim funny enough that you enjoy watching him but dangerous enough that you never feel comfortable around him.
Every time he smiled I kept thinking something bad was about to happen.
* One thing I really appreciated was that the movie never tried to turn these characters into heroes.
They are not saving the world.
They are not fighting for justice.
They are chasing money.
That honesty makes the story much stronger.
The movie lets you enjoy their journey without asking you to agree with their choices.
There are also moments where the tension becomes surprisingly intense.
Some scenes had me sitting quietly because I honestly did not know what was going to happen
The movie proves you do not need action to create suspense.
Sometimes one conversation inside a room can be more stressful than an explosion.
The friendship between David and Efraim is probably my part of the whole film.
At the beginning they trust each other.
They joke together.
They dream together.
Once millions of dollars become involved everything starts changing.
Trust slowly disappears.
Greed replaces loyalty.
Watching that friendship break honestly felt sad because it never happens all at once.
It happens little by little.
That is how real friendships sometimes end.
Not with one argument.
With dozens of small disappointments.
The movie also does something I really respect.
It does not celebrate greed.
At making millions looks exciting.
Nice hotels.
Luxury cars.
Expensive watches.
Private jets.
Everything looks perfect.
Behind all that success people stop trusting each other.
Fear becomes normal.
Every phone call feels dangerous.
Every knock on the door becomes worrying.
Money solves some problems. It creates many others.
That message felt honest.
The ending was satisfying because it showed that actions have consequences.
Without spoiling much I will just say that nobody can keep playing dangerous games forever.
Sooner or later every decision catches up with you.
When it does the bill is always much higher than expected.
Did I enjoy the movie?
Yes.
Very much.
Not because I agree with what the characters did.
I actually disagree with many of their decisions.
I enjoyed it because it tells a true story in a way that feels entertaining funny stressful and surprisingly emotional all at the same time.
It never became boring.
It never felt longer than it needed to be.
I stayed interested, from beginning to end.
Would I watch it again?
Definitely. I think the second watch of War Dogs would actually be even better. This is because you start to notice the moments where everything begins to fall apart. These moments happen long before the characters realize it themselves.
What did I learn from this movie?
Probably more than I expected.
I learned that success without honesty never lasts.
I learned that greed keeps asking for more.
No amount of money ever feels enough. This is especially true once someone starts chasing it for the reasons.
I also learned that choosing business over friendship always ends badly.
Trust takes years to build. However it only takes minutes to destroy.
Another lesson from the movie is that confidence is important. However overconfidence can become your weakness.
Efraim believed he was untouchable.
That belief slowly became the reason everything started to collapse.
Would I recommend War Dogs?
Absolutely.
I would recommend it especially if you enjoy stories, crime dramas or movies based on real events.
The movie is funny without becoming silly.
It is serious without becoming depressing.
It is educational without feeling like a documentary.
That balance is not easy to achieve.
If someone asked me whether War Dogs is worth watching I would say yes without thinking

Final Thoughts on this,
Some movies are fun while you watch them. However you forget them a week later.
War Dogs stayed in my mind.
Not because of the guns.
Not because of the money.
Because it shows how quickly people can lose themselves. This happens when success arrives faster than wisdom.
The movie reminds us that every shortcut has a price. Sometimes that price is much bigger than money.
For me War Dogs is one of the entertaining crime movies of the last decade.
It made me laugh 😂
It made me nervous
It made me question what I would do if I were given the opportunity.
Honestly that is exactly what I want from a movie.
I want something that entertains me. At the time it gives me something to think about after the credits finish rolling.
If you have never watched War Dogs then give it a chance.
You might start the movie expecting a comedy, about two friends making money.
You will probably finish it thinking about how dangerous greed can become. This happens when nobody knows when to stop.
