MOVIE REVIEW: “Thanksgiving” (2023)

Synopsis: Plymouth (Massachusetts). After an edition of the famous (and long-awaited) Black Friday turns into widespread chaos (resulting in many deaths), a mysterious killer inspired by the creation of Thanksgiving begins to terrorize the city.

The current American horror cinema that acidly tries to revive the slasher subgenre is really one of the most canned things there is. Written and directed by Eli Roth without any shame when it comes to drinking from this source to create his new projects, this is a classic example of a movie that tries to create a kind of homage to old movies of the same genre, but ends up being just a functional and punctual entertainment... In other words, it's not bad, but it's full of flaws that end up cancelling out even some of its most positive points throughout its plot.

On the eve of another long-awaited edition of Black Friday, outside one of the most famous stores in the quiet city of Plymouth, a large number of customers, extremely eager and thirsty to take advantage of the promotions, are waiting for the store to open. However, after an incident, things get out of control and they end up breaking into the place. The result of this act is widespread chaos of unimaginable proportions, and because of this, many of them are killed in absurd ways. Even before the movie's title was announced... It already showed why it was made.

This initial scene ends up functioning as a major criticism of consumerism, and this is done from both sides. On one side there is a family of businesspeople who go to great lengths to obtain more and more profits, while on the other side there is a portion of the population that goes to great lengths to be able to buy what they want at any cost (and when I mean at any cost, is going to extreme lengths to get what they want). This beginning is disturbing, not only because of the bloody scenes, but mainly because of human behavior.

From then on, the script relies on that old and traditional formula of the “masked killer” (which in this case is someone wearing a mask to “revive” John Craver, who is an ancient pilgrim), who starts killing his victims, and is based on some specific criteria to commit each murder. Amid the bloody and relatively creative deaths (even if some of them are completely unrealistic to the point of being seen as something ridiculous), the plot tries to create an atmosphere of suspense that ends up not working very well, both due to its atmosphere and its cast.

There are some points within the script that are interesting, for example, some of the deaths that end up creating an atmosphere very characteristic of the cinema that Roth likes to make. Anyone who knows his work knows how much he likes to create scenes with high levels of refined cruelty bathed in lots of blood. This is present here, and most of the time it ends up working very well. As well as the fact that he completely embraces all the nonsense that surrounds the plot and its entire development. There is a very unbalanced mix of horror and comedy.

In the midst of an inexpressive cast (where the only known name is Patrick Dempsey) who gives life to a group of boring teenagers without any charisma in a totally uninteresting way (there is no type of further development about them... not even about the protagonist herself, who is one of the worst here), the project fails to create any type of connection with the public. This makes any level of empathy with them on the part of the public impossible (and here I would venture to say that it is easier to hope that the killer can reach them).

As a director, Roth does nothing more than the trivial in relation to what is already customary for him. Precisely in this movie, it is interesting to see how well he managed to incorporate the essence of Thanksgiving within a story where horror is scaled within a cultural tradition. However, as a screenwriter, he ends up getting lost as he develops the plot, which despite maintaining its own essence, tries to establish other fronts that end up being quite disposable for the project, because they end up minimizing the impact of other better ideas.

Thanksgiving is that type of movie that manages to extract the most from its references in terms of more practical effects (because it is precisely in this technical part that the project manages to stand out with more quality), but fails to do the same in terms of narrative. However, and somewhat ironically, it is also a movie that manages to be entertainingly bloody because it is not afraid to be what it really is, and even brings a not very obvious revelation about the true identity of its killer and a possible opening for a sequel.

El cine de terror americano actual que intenta ácidamente revivir el subgénero slasher es realmente una de las cosas más enlatadas que existen. Escrita y dirigida por Eli Roth sin ningún pudor a la hora de beber de esta fuente para crear sus nuevos proyectos, este es un ejemplo clásico de película que intenta crear una especie de homenaje a películas antiguas del mismo género, pero termina siendo sólo un entretenimiento funcional y puntual... Es decir, no está mal, pero está lleno de fallos que acaban anulando incluso algunos de sus puntos más positivos a lo largo de su trama.

En vísperas de otra esperada edición del Black Friday, frente a una de las tiendas más famosas de la tranquila ciudad de Plymouth, un gran número de clientes, muy ansiosos y sedientos de aprovechar las promociones, esperan que la tienda abra abierto. Entre muertes sangrientas y relativamente creativas (aunque algunas de ellas son completamente irreales hasta el punto de parecer ridículas), la trama intenta crear una atmósfera de suspense que termina no funcionando muy bien, tanto por su atmósfera como por su su elenco.

Hay algunos puntos dentro del guion que son interesantes, por ejemplo, algunas de las muertes que acaban creando una atmósfera muy característica del cine que le gusta hacer a Roth. Como director, Roth no hace más que lo trivial en relación con lo que ya le es habitual. Precisamente en esta película es interesante ver lo bien que logró incorporar la esencia del Día de Acción de Gracias dentro de una historia donde el terror se escala dentro de una tradición cultural. Sin embargo, como guionista acaba perdiéndose a medida que desarrolla la trama, que pese a mantener su propia esencia, intenta establecer otros frentes que acaban siendo bastante descartables para el proyecto, porque acaban minimizando el impacto de otras ideas mejores.

Black Friday es ese tipo de películas que consigue sacar el máximo partido de sus referencias en cuanto a efectos más prácticos (porque es precisamente en esta parte técnica donde el proyecto consigue destacar con más calidad), pero no consigue hacer lo mismo en términos de narrativa. Sin embargo, y un tanto irónico, también es una película que logra ser entretenidamente sangrienta porque no teme ser lo que realmente es, e incluso trae una revelación no muy obvia sobre la verdadera identidad de su asesino y una posible apertura para un continuación.

Escrito e dirigido por Eli Roth sem qualquer pudor quando se trata sobre beber desta fonte para criar os seus novos projetos, este é um exemplo clássico de filme que tenta criar uma espécie de homenagem a filmes antigos do mesmo gênero, mas que acaba sendo apenas um entretenimento funcional e pontual... Ou seja, não é ruim, mas é cheio de defeitos que acabam anulando até mesmo alguns de seus pontos mais positivos ao longo de sua trama.

Na véspera de mais uma tão aguardada edição da Black Friday, do lado de fora de uma das lojas mais famosas na pacata cidade de Plymouth, um grande número de clientes extremamente ansiosos e sedentos para aproveitar as promoções está à espera da abertura do local. No entanto, após um incidente as coisas saem do controle e eles acabam invadindo o local. O resultado desse ato é um caos generalizado de proporções inimagináveis, e por causa disso, muitas delas são mortas de maneiras absurdas. Antes mesmo do título do filme ser anunciado... Ele já mostrou a razão de ter sido feito.

Essa cena inicial acaba funcionando como uma grande crítica ao consumismo, e isso é feito de ambos os lados. De um lado está uma família de empresários que não mede esforços para conseguir cada vez mais lucros, enquanto do outro lado há uma parcela da população que não mede esforços para conseguir comprar o que elas querem a qualquer custo (e quanto eu falo a qualquer custo, é ir até as últimas consequências para conseguir o que elas desejam). Esse início é perturbador, não apenas pela evidência das cenas sanguinolentas, mas principalmente pelo comportamento humano.

A partir daí, o roteiro aposta naquela velha e tradicional fórmula do “assassino mascarado” (que neste caso é alguém usando uma máscara para “reviver” o John Craver, que é um antigo peregrino), que começa a matar as suas vítimas, e se baseia em alguns critérios específicos para cometar cada assassinato. Em meio as mortes sangrentas e relativamente criativas (mesmo que algumas delas seja totalmente irreais a ponto de serem vistas como algo ridículo), à trama tenta criar um clima de suspense que acaba não funcionando muito bem, tanto pela sua atmosfera, quanto pelo seu elenco.

Há alguns pontos dentro do roteiro que são interessantes, como por exemplo, algumas das mortes que acabam criando uma atmosfera muito característica do cinema que o Roth gosta de fazer. Quem conhece o trabalho dele, sabe o quanto ele gosta de criar cenas com altos níveis de requintes de crueldade banhadas a muito sangue. Isso está presente aqui, e na maior parte das vezes acaba funcionando muito bem. Assim como o fato dele abraçar por completo todo o teor nonsense que ronda à trama e todo o seu desenvolvimento. Há uma mistura de horror e comédia bem desbalanceada.

No meio de um elenco inexpressivo (onde o único nome conhecido é o do Patrick Dempsey) que dá vida a um grupo de adolescentes chatos e sem qualquer carisma de uma maneira totalmente desinteressante (não há qualquer tipo de desenvolvimento mais aprofundado sobre eles... nem mesmo sobre à própria protagonista, que é uma das piores aqui), o projeto não consegue criar nenhum tipo de conexão com o público. Isso inviabiliza qualquer nível de empatia com eles por parte do público (e aqui eu me arrisco a dizer que é mais fácil torcer para que o assassino consiga alcançá-los).

Enquanto diretor, Roth não faz nada além do trivial em relação ao que já lhe é costumeiro. Precisamente neste filme é interessante ver como ele conseguiu incorporar bem à essência do dia de Ação de Graças dentro de uma estória onde o horror vai sendo escalonado dentro de uma tradição cultural. No entanto, enquanto roteirista, ele acaba se perdendo à medida em que vai desenvolvendo à trama, que apesar de manter à própria essência, tenta estabelecer outras frentes que acabam sendo bem descartáveis para o projeto, porque acabam minimizando o impacto de outras ideias melhores.

Feriado Sangrento é aquele tipo de filme que consegue sugar o máximo de suas referências em termos de efeitos mais práticos (porque é justamente nessa parte técnica que o projeto consegue se sobressair com mais qualidade), mas não consegue fazer o mesmo em termos de narrativa. No entanto, e de uma maneira até um pouco irônica, também é um filme que consegue ser divertidamente sangrento porque não ter medo de ser o que ele realmente é, e ainda traz uma revelação não muito óbvia sobre a verdadeira identidade do seu assassino e uma possível brecha para uma sequência.

In sports there have always been players who become legends at certain times, they are the favorites of generations until another athlete comes along and displaces him, this has been the case in soccer, baseball, swimming and even boxing, in the 70's everybody talked about Mano de Piedra Durán, an invincible boxer, a phrase that I remember my dad saying, who never missed any of his fights. If there was a street fight between two men, the winner was called "mano de piedra" (hand of stone).

Roberto "Manos de Piedra" Duran's fame was hard earned, winning several titles and a lot of money. While in retirement with his wife, he wrote his autobiography to be made into a movie, which was played by the Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez.

Loved by the poor crowds who admired him, for being the poor boy who became a millionaire with dignity and for all the social help he provided, but also booed and denigrated when he decided not to fight to defend his championship title, a stage that plunged him into depression.

He squandered a lot of money on parties for his friends, jewelry, dresses and trips for his family, he was left penniless and full of debts like any nouveau riche and he had to return to the ring to do what he did best, receive and give blows, but this time he had to overcome the bad habits he had assumed, with excess weight, exhausted and older.

Ambientada en una zona popular y en la década de los 70, inicia la historia con un niño pobre que tiene muchos hermanos y una madre joven. Este sale cada día de casa a vender caramelos y hacer cualquier cosa para llevar algo de comer a su hogar. Se enamoró de una joven de clase media, pudiente y vivían muy bien, su familia tenía servicio y ella asistía a una buena escuela, como era encantador logró llamar la atención de la chica, pero pronto ella se dio cuenta de que este no poseía estudios y por eso lo rechazó, generando una motivación extra para lograr el éxito que buscaba. Más adelante, con dinero y un futuro prometedor, logró casarse con ella y empezó a disfrutar de todo el esfuerzo que había hecho por años.

Esta película biográfica nos cuenta los eventos dolorosos, felices y de aprendizaje del boxeador, también de los errores que cometió. Aunque desde muy pequeño trabajó para ser el mejor y soñaba con tener el mundo a sus pies, la fama y el dinero llegó de forma sorpresiva subiendo su ego. Querido por las multitudes pobres que lo admiraban, por ser el niño pobre que dignamente se volvió millonario y por toda la ayuda social que brindaba, pero también abucheado y denigrado cuando decidió no pelear para defender su título de campeón, una etapa que lo sumergió en la depresión.

Despilfarro mucho dinero en fiestas para sus amigos, joyas, vestidos y viajes para su familia se quedó sin dinero y lleno de deudas como todo nuevo rico y le tocó volver al ring hacer lo que mejor hacía, recibir y dar golpes, pero esta vez tuvo superar los malos hábitos que había asumido, con exceso de peso, agotado y con más edad.

🎥 The costumes and makeup of the protagonists gave strength to the atmosphere of the film and the temporality of the story, displaying ostentatiousness.

🎥 Although it is a biopic and has moments of great conviction, I believe that the performances of Edgar Ramirez as the hand of Piedra Duran and the renowned Hollywood actor Robert De Niro, winner of 2 Oscars, were fundamental for this film to have any success. Without them, perhaps, Mano de Piedra Durán's fame would have been forgotten.

🎥 Boxing is a sport that is not as elegant as others, it is also a door of possibility for the poor that with effort and perseverance can develop skills that will take them to the top in it. No one achieves fame in a sport without years of dedication and practice, in addition to the physical and mental training they have to undergo. A message that also invites reflection that all the effort of a lifetime can be lost because of bad decisions, vices, excessive ego.

🎥 In the end I am glad that this athlete has retired in time and remains healthy with his wife, as shown in the credits with real photos. If you like boxing and biographical movies, I recommend it. For everyone else it is not excellent, but it can entertain you while you learn about figures that made history.

Nadie consigue la fama en un deporte sin años de dedicación y práctica, además del entrenamiento físico y mental que se tienen que someter. Un mensaje que invita también a la reflexión de que todo el esfuerzo de una vida se puede perder por malas decisiones, vicios, ego desmedido.

🎥 Al final me alegro de que este deportista se haya retirado a tiempo y se conserve saludable al lado de su esposa, como lo dejan ver en los créditos con fotos reales. Si te gusta el boxeo y las películas biográficas, te la recomiendo. Para todos los demás no es excelente, pero te puede entretener mientras aprendes de figuras que hicieron historia.

After that they travel to the North Atlantic where a base of the Nazi’s was established and started to do what they do best fight. The group interrupted in meetings of the Nazi and killed everyone in that room, explode boats, explode Nazis camp, killed Nazis officers, they just killed every that show his face because that was the mission and they can use any method to end the war, its a free for all. The SSRF are aware that they can died at any moment but they really don’t care until the point that Gus received a called from the Prime Ministry office to end with the mission and he just decided to ignored that order, if they start a mission they must ended now they just go nuts and since that moment we are going to witness what this crazy group of heroes is going to do to change the course of the war and how far they are going to travel to achieved that goal.

The project to bring the story of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare started on 2021 when Paramount Pictures acquired the rights of the best seller book of Damien Lewis, which who has the same name as the movie. Since that moment Paramount Pictures decided that the best person to direct this movie was the director Guy Ritchi, due to his reputation with action movies, he was the perfect for that job, with that news of who was the director the excitement begins for this movie. Later the confirmation of the cast with the leading role to Henry Cavill increase that excitement. The filming started on February and ends on May 2023 in Antalya, Turkey. The director and cast has mention that since the moment they read the script, they accept the every role assigned to them with a huge ambition to bring a story that did justice to the unknown heroes of World War II. Is well known that the director has an unique way to create stories, taking some liberties with the real life story just to give more emotion and adrenaline to the movie. During the filming the director, production staff and the cast enjoyed every moment of it and more for the funny and relax environment living through the filming. Exist critics about the movie because is not following the in total the real events of the story but despite that the excitement for the premiered of the movie is increasing every day.

The story of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is based upon recently declassified files of the British War Department and inspire by the true events about the decision of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Fleming to create a special force organization formed by British soldiers, who were willing whatever it takes to secure a victory against the Nazi army. Europe was living the horrific World War II and England wanted to secure his country against the menace of the German army, so a crew of special soldiers lead by Gus March Phillips, the person that accepted the risky mission with the condition that he will choose his men. The group was nothing but conventional and their singular techniques help to change the course. The movie is giving to audience the view of the protagonist that help to finish a war. It is a movie with a lot of action, comedy and muscles, based on true events of a unknown part of history.

The cast of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare features a variety of talented actors:

Leading the cast is Henry Cavill brings to life the role of Gus March-Phillips, Cavill is a well known British actor who gained international recognition for his role of Charles Brandon in the TV series The Tudors but he is mostly globally known for bringing to life one of the most beloved characters in the DC Comics Universe, Superman. Cavill's performance as the Man of Steel has been praised by both critics and fans, solidifying his status as a leading actor in Hollywood, in addition to his work in the DC Extended Universe, he is also known for his role as Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix series The Witcher in my opinion a more complicated role to play.

Alan Ritchson joins Calvin and he plays the role of Anders Lassen, Ritchson is an American actor who is best known for his portrayal of Aquaman / Arthur Curry in the CW series Smallville but his recent performance in the Amazon Prime Video series Reacher that truly showcased his range as an actor with a mix of a big guy who is very strict but at the same time can be kind to others, after playing the main role on Reacher he was praised for its intensity and physicality, making him the perfect choice to play the tough and rugged Lassen in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

Another notable cast member is Alex Pettyfer, who plays the role of Geoffrey Appleyard, Pettyfer is a British actor and model who first gained recognition for his role as Alex Rider in the 2006 movie Stormbreaker and other number of movies including I Am Number Four and Magic Mike playing secondary roles, Pettyfer's good looks and charisma make him a natural fit for the role of the dashing Appleyard, this movie needs a mix of characters with different talents, both charismatic and looks.

Eiza González also joins the cast as Marjorie Stewart, González is a Mexican actress and singer who first gained recognition for her role in the horror series From Dusk till Dawn: The Series in 2014, not so popular production but at least remind me some of the original movies from the 90s, since then she has appeared in a number of movies, including Baby Driver and others, not the most hype about her role but looks like a good addition that will be an easy fit.

Closing out the cast is Babs Olusanmokun, who plays the role of Heron, Olusanmokun is a Nigerian-American actor who is best known for her role as Dr. Joseph M'Benga in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and as Jamis in the acclaimed film Dune and its upcoming sequel Dune: Part Two, he has a very powerful presence and commanding performance make her a standout in the cast.

Overall, the cast of this movie is a diverse and talented group of actors who bring their unique skills and experiences to the film, with such a strong ensemble, audiences can expect a lot of excitement and entertaining ride.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is a movie that will describe a part of the history of World War II that many people unknown. What do expect from Joker: Folie à Deux?

After so much expectation (at least on my part), the long-awaited first trailer for the next movie about the anti-hero Joker was released by Warner Bros., and I can say that I was surprised by some things that were shown and on the other hand, I can also say that I was a little disappointed. However, I know that this is just a preview of what will be seen in cinemas in September and by then a lot will change in my opinion (for or against the movie).

Regarding the trailer (which is actually a teaser trailer), the story itself is not detailed, but it is possible to see a notable narrative change regarding the presence of Harley Quinn (who will possibly have her origin story changed in relation to what is already well known to the public of comics, television series and cinema). Don't expect references to the comics, because once the movie intends to take a different approach.

In a completely chopped preview, the movie presents itself in a refined way, thus showing that the project actually received a budget far above what was spent on its previous sequel. The studio is really betting big, and the great cinematography is proof of that. Hiring Lady Gaga for such an iconic role seems like a bold move, but considering the musical idea of the script, it could work (but up to a certain point).

Joaquin Phoenix seems to be doing very well reprising the role, but I got the impression that he doesn't have the same energy as the first movie. There is no doubt about Phoenix's talent, but precisely in this sequence, I didn't see the same impact as the previous movie (perhaps because it was his first performance in this role). The only exception is the final scene of the trailer (the smile through the glass mixed with the streak of lipstick), which is truly spectacular.

I personally don't really like musicals, but judging by the trailer, the musical sequences could just be a narrative device to create parallel universes between the two protagonists. If it is only used in this way, I will hate to see it happen because it will be a tiring argument throughout the movie. Another negative point was the extremely exaggerated presence of a visual production that in no way resembles the universe created in the first movie.

Just like in the first movie, the strength of the script for this sequel will be its own characters. This time Fleck won't be alone, and Quinn will be his emotional “support” (for better or worse). In fact, I think they will be their respective fulcrums, because they will share a kind of madness that meets their needs to a shared degree (and the title of the movie itself makes a clear reference to what I'm saying).

Between what is real and what is not, the script will certainly delve into many of the disappointments shared by the future couple. Within this context, I believe that the script will be developed intensely using music as a source of reference and support to create “parallel realities” that will be a direct reflection of what is happening in their minds... So, I think that This might defeat the idea that this sequel will be a musical (because it isn't).

Heavily inspired by movies from old Hollywood (almost all of them being musicals), Joker: Folie à Deux will have Todd Phillips once again in the director's chair (which was already obviously predictable), and together with him, but writing the script, the duo Scott Silver and Bob Kane. I would say that for now the balance of what I expect from the movie is positive and there is room for many surprises, but I still haven't fully bought into the idea of this project in its musical essence.

Sin embargo, sé que esto es sólo un adelanto de lo que se verá en los cines en septiembre y para entonces muchas cosas cambiarán en mi opinión (a favor o en contra de la película).

Respecto al tráiler (que en realidad es un teaser trailer), no se detalla la historia en sí, pero es posible ver un cambio narrativo notable respecto a la presencia de Harley Quinn (quien posiblemente tendrá su historia de origen cambiada en relación a lo que ya se conoce). muy conocido por el público del cómic, las series de televisión y el cine). No esperes referencias a los cómics, porque una vez la película pretende adoptar un enfoque diferente.

En un avance completamente recortado, la película se presenta de forma refinada, demostrando así que el proyecto recibió un presupuesto muy superior al gastado en su secuela anterior. Otro punto negativo fue la presencia extremadamente exagerada de una producción visual que no se parece en nada al universo creado en la primera película.

Al igual que en la primera película, el punto fuerte del guión de esta secuela serán sus propios personajes. Esta vez Fleck no estará solo y Quinn será su “apoyo” emocional (para bien o para mal). De hecho, creo que serán sus respectivos puntos de apoyo, porque compartirán un tipo de locura que satisface sus necesidades en un grado compartido (y el propio título de la película hace una clara referencia a lo que digo).

Entre lo real y lo que no, el guión seguramente ahondará en muchas de las decepciones compartidas por la futura pareja. En este contexto, creo que el guión se desarrollará intensamente utilizando la música como fuente de referencia y apoyo para crear “realidades paralelas” que serán un reflejo directo de lo que está pasando en sus mentes... Entonces, creo que esto podría derrotar la idea de que esta secuela será un musical (porque no lo es).

Depois de tanta expectativa (ao menos da minha parte), o tão esperado primeiro trailer do próximo filme do anti-herói Coringa foi divulgado pela Warner Bros., e eu posso dizer que eu fiquei surpreso com algumas coisas que foram exibidas e por outro lado, também posso dizer que fiquei um pouco decepcionado. No entanto, eu sei que esta é só uma prévia do que será visto em setembro nos cinemas e até lá muita coisa vai mudar no meu conceito (a favor ou contra o filme).

Sobre o trailer (que na verdade é um teaser trailer), a história em si não é detalhada, mas é possível ver uma notável mudança narrativa com relação à presença da Harley Quinn (que possivelmente terá à sua história de origem mudada em relação ao que já é de conhecimento notório do público dos quadrinhos, nas séries de televisão e no cinema). Não espere por referências aos quadrinhos, porque uma vez o filme pretende pisar fundo em uma abordagem diferenciada.

Em uma prévia totalmente picotada, o filme se apresenta de uma maneira refinada, evidenciando assim que o projeto realmente recebeu um orçamento muito acima do que foi gasto na sua sequência anterior. O estúdio está realmente apostando alto, e a ótima cinematografia é uma prova disso. Na verdade, eu acho que eles serão os seus respectivos pontos de suporte, porque eles irão compartilhar uma espécie de loucura que atende suas necessidades em um grau compartilhado (e o próprio título do filme faz uma referência clara ao que eu estou dizendo).

Entre o que é real e o que não é, o roteiro certamente vai mergulhar em muitas das desilusões compartilhadas pelo futuro casal. Dentro desse contexto, eu acredito que o roteiro será desenvolvido de maneira intensa utilizando à música como uma fonte de referência e apoio para criar as “realidades paralelas” que serão um reflexo direto que se passa na mente deles... Então, eu acho que isso pode anular a ideia de que esta sequência será um musical (porque ele não é).

Fortemente inspirado em filmes da antiga Hollywood (quase todos eles sendo musicais), Coringa: Delírio a Dois terá o Todd Phillips novamente na cadeira de diretor (o que já era obviamente previsível), e junto com ele, mas assinando o roteiro, a dupla Scott Silver e Bob Kane. Eu diria que por enquanto o saldo sobre o que eu espero do filme é positivo e tem espaço para muitas surpresas, mas eu ainda não comprei totalmente a ideia deste projeto na sua essência musical.

Shogun Episode 8, The Abyss of Life, does honor its name when we see so many people willing to die for honor while others didn't run away but did have different opinion on what was next for them going against everything they have work on that is the case of Hiromatsu who have decided to honor his word and everything that he have work on during his entire life but on the other hand his grandson Buntaro believe that if he must die will not be because Toronaga gave up, its a bit contradictory since when they escape Osaka he was the last man standing on land left alone but I guess one thing is to fight for your life knowing you most likely will be killed and the other one is die just because Toronaga surrender, meaning let other man kill you willingly.

A very interesting episode with a bit of gore, lot of mind games but not everything was intentional, on episode 7 Toronaga's son Nagakado died after he slipped and crack his back head while trying to kill his uncle Saeki, after Nagakado failed attempt Saeki gather his men and took control of the situation going back to the original dilemma, Toronaga having to surrender but after his son died there was a variable and it was time, this gave Toronaga 49 days, the customary time to bury his son and go through all the traditional ceremony, enough time for Toronaga to think how could he save his clan, if you have been watching the series you know he can't die yet so something or some one was going to act in favor of him.

Toronaga and what is left of his men go back to Edo to bury his son and gather things up before going to Osaka and meet Ishido to surrender but what was strange to me that all of the sudden Toronaga is ill badly, coughing all the way and looking pale. Everyone next to him does not want to surrender, they want to fight even when they are out number but Toronaga is Lord, they must obey his command, honor is above everything at least until this point in time.

I really though we would see more of a romantic scenario between Mariko and John at this point, if they really slept together but she have kept her boundaries in and out of home this shows how much different Japanese culture is than others, it is script to every single dot. The other couple on the horizon is Ishido and Lady Ochiba, he has really been falling for her and it seems for ever even when Taiko was alive, the reason I would think this is because he has done what ever she wanted, this entire plan to destroy Toronaga is her doing although he is no stranger of power hungry, Ishido now feels his plan will finally be accomplished so the final nail on the coffin would be marry Lady Ochiba who is the mother of the heir, this will provide Ishido enough power to act and do what ever he wants and he would probably be turn into the temporary ruler of Japan but I'm not sure if she is not measuring this correct because that means he could also kill the heir.

Before they cremate Nagakado, all Toronaga's Vassal join at night to drink sake, talk and remember what a good guy Nagakado was, he was still a boy eager to show up he could be more, learning from his mistakes who was not willing to let his father die just because someone was trying to bully him over power but to be honest what a stupid and unfortunate way of dying, the guy slipped the last second when he had Saeki in the ground about to cut his head off, falls on his back and crack the back of his head against a rock dying almost immediately. That night and day after during the funeral ceremony, most of Toronaga's vassal didn't want to die nor surrender, they wanted to at least die fighting but this meant going against their lord will.

This is the scene that got me thinking something was fake, most likely Toronaga was fake, Father Martin decides to visit Toronaga before he goes to Osaka to advice him to form and alliance with Lady Ochiba and take off power from Ishido, I really think he doesn't understand the situation very well since she is the one pushing Ishido to finish Toronaga, Ishido is enemy with Toronaga for power but she purely hates him. Martin came to bargain with Toronaga for land, he wanted to build a church in Edo, towards he end Toronaga agree but not before one last request "That he return to Osaka and tell what he sees there" Toronaga basically wanted Martin to be his messenger and tell others how sick he is and that for real this time he will surrender, I don't know Rick, looks fake to me.

After Toronaga sends back Martin to Osaka, Hiromatsu kinda read his intentions and told every other vassal that Toronaga is going to fight, there is something going on, this includes his grandson Buntaro who is a great warrior loyal warrior who does fear death. He has been trying to work things out with Mariko after he beat her up one night a few episodes ago because he was jealous of John and her, Mariko has been playing her role of wife as Toronaga commands her. Buntaro invites her to drink tea with him, same as when John flatter Kiku when she was serving him tea its very similar to Buntaro preparing tea for Mariko its an entire ceremony. After Mariko congratulate him for his performance he had the great idea to ask her to both die that night, told her he doesn't believe what Hiromatsu is saying and that he finally will let her have what she was asking for all this time, die. One thing is that a foreigner like John ask them to act against Toronaga but another is that a "warrior" like him ask Mariko to go against her lord, he really show his hand this time and to make things worst for him Mariko ask her many times to let her die because she never wanted to be with him but dying was the only honorable way because she would not divorce him or leave him, that would not only make her look bad but also go against what her father wanted her to do.

Talk about honor and going against their lord will, John goes to Yabushigue to fight for him and Yabushigue refuses ironically because he wants to serve Toronaga and cant go against his orders, the man that was playing double agent for the most part of the series and that he would let it slide because he is a foreigner. Most at this point not clue if to follow Toronaga to death, they all want to die fighting if necessary, even young Omi feels there is a point of return in loyalty, when it takes you no where or even takes you to die in vane.

As always without intentions to spoil the meat and potatoes of the episode I try mainly to talk about the base and structure of events that let to the results of this episode, Toronaga is taking whats left of his army and warriors to the edge mainly for many reasons, to find out who are the loyal ones, to find out who are willing to fight even when out number and even those who would try to take advantage of his situation to gain power over him like Martin did asking for land when he knows Toronaga is about to die but had no clue he was just another pawn on his entire plan, another great episode and I just hope we get two episodes of battle, there are only two episodes left and this is suppose to be a mini series so one episode of battle in my opinion would not be enough to satisfy most viewers.

The story follows Abigail a beautiful young girl who appears to be rehearsing her dance, she is a ballerina, after that she is took by her chauffeur to her house, which result is a mansion, Abigail is the daughter of a wealthy man. She is leave at her house and she lock in her room. The scene change and appeared a man driven a group of people to the mansion where Abigail is. The man name is Lambert and is the one that in representation of his client hired the group of criminals, they have the mission of kidnap and hold Abigail in the mansion for 24hrs, the criminal accept the job and demand $50 million for the ransom, Lambert told them that if they finish the job they will received the money and left, leaving the kidnappers behind. The criminals gather at the mansion of their mysterious leader, where they must adhere to certain rules to avoid disrupting the plan. Abigail is held captive in one of the mansion’s rooms, handcuffed to a bed. One of the female criminals engages in conversation with her and felt bad to see that young girl with the handcuff but Abigail just look at her and told her “I’m sorry for what’s about to happen.” After those were words pronounce by Abigail, the doors and windows of the mansion begin to move and close seemingly by themselves, as if something paranormal is occurring, leaving the kidnappers trapped. Since that moment everything change, Abigail wasn’t anymore a tiny, helpless and beauty ballerina, now she look more like a demon, with a huge strength, with a blood lust. Now the hunters are the one that are being hunt and they need to create a plan not to win the money, they a plan to survive from whatever Abigail is. They truly believe she is a vampire and try to kill her in many ways but they realize that she is also immortal because she received a gunshot in her head still alive. This situation is just a game for Abigail but a race against the clock for the kidnappers that are fighting to reach for survive.

This movie was directed by directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin anbd Tyler Gillett, a team that has worked in many horror movies and now bring a new story full of plot twist and great performances. Leading the cast is Alisha Weir as Abigail and Melissa Barrera known for her role in Scream. The movie will premiered on April 19th, in theaters.

What to Expect: An Exciting Horror Experience

With a dark atmosphere that keep the suspense and tension through the entire movie,also with scenes that will make you scream like watch her hunting every single person in the mansion, ripping them and other scenes that could make laugh like she flying or dancing with a dead body, Abigail is one of those movies that wants to be recognized as the best horror film of 2024 and probably with the great direction and the committed cast can achieve that distinction.

Kathryn Newton joins the cast as Sammy, Newton is known for her roles in various TV series, such as Louise Brooks in Gary Unmarried (2008) and the older version of Claire Novak in Supernatural but the one I might remember the most was her performance in Paranormal Activity 4 that based on small search that I made won her the Young Artist Award for Best Leading Young Actress in a Feature Film, also been known for playing Cassie Lang in Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, demonstrating not the best movie to been known for based on its rating but its a Marvel movie after all.

Giancarlo Esposito, who now days is playing the role of Parish on the TV series with the same name, this time plays Lambert in Abigail, but he is best known for his role as Gustavo Fring in on of the most famous TV series ever Breaking Bad and its sequel, Better Call Saul, Esposito has an extensive experience and commanding presence bring complexity to the character of Lambert.

This are some of many talents that we will see on the movie Abigail, a combination of seasoned actors and rising stars who overall will have to deal with the little monster that is Abigail.

The filming of Abigail was a partnership between directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who has demonstrated to have a great synergy creating horror stories, both directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin anbd Tyler Gillett are the co-creators of Radio Silence, a film and television production company founded in 2011. Both directors are worked alongside in many different projects, much of them horror movies such as Devil Due 2014, Ready or Not 2019, Scream 2022, Southbound 2015 and V/H/S 2012. They are creating a good environment where both can let their imagination flow without restriction and in synergy. Now they are bringing the movie Abigail, their new horror movie with a lot of plot twist and adventure where until the end the audience will search who is going to survive.

Behind the Scenes: Creating Abigail

The creation of Abigail came from the idea of developing a monster thriller movie for Universal Pictures. The director wanted to do a reboot of the 1936 Universal Classic Monsters movie Dracula’s Daughter. They also stop the filming of Scream V just to focus on this project. The development of the movie started on April 2023 and at the same month was hired almost all the cast and the last member of the cast was included on June, completed the cast the filming began that same month in Dublin, Ireland. The cast and staff worked without hesitation, completing the filming of December 2023. At the end of the project the direction, production staff and the cast felt happy because the gave everything of themselves to perform deliver a great horror movie.

Abigail is one of those horror movies that audience will totally enjoy for its twisted ideas and the great performances that the cast gave to deliver a good movie. Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett known for their expertise in the horror field in the cinema industry are giving to the audience the opportunity to meet a new monsters, a one that was really unexpected for the idea that look like a fragile and precious girl and who is a ballerina dancer, a normal girl with a normal passion but with a wealthy family. Was really fascination the twist in the plot of 6 kidnappers that think their job is like only babysit Abigail in her luxury mansion but at the end result that they are the one that must take care from her. Absolutely a movie that brings a fresh view for the horror movies and that audience will need to stay sit to confirm if any one of them survive and also discover what is Abigail?.

¡Hola amigos! No sé si recordarán, pero hace algún tiempo les compartí reseñas de las producciones de Makoto Shinkai que iba viendo, todavía me faltan algunas por ver que las fui posponiendo. El fin de semana pasado me decidí a continuar con esto, así que vi El tiempo contigo y acá les comparto mi reseña.

Hello friends! I don't know if you remember, but some time ago I shared with you reviews of Makoto Shinkai's productions that I was watching, I still have some more to see and I kept postponing them. Last weekend I decided to continue with this, so I watched Weathering With You and here I share with you my review.

Esta película de animación nos cuenta la historia de un joven de 16 años llamado Hodaka que escapa de su hogar en un pueblo de una isla y se embarca hacia Tokio para empezar una nueva vida. Allí tiene problemas para conseguir trabajo por ser menor de edad, pero encuentra una mano en un señor que lo ayudó en el barco y le dejó su tarjeta de contacto. A pesar de los inconvenientes que pasa, se siente bien en Tokio, aunque esta ciudad está atravesando por un periodo de lluvias nunca antes visto. En medio de todo esto conoce a Hina, una joven que también le tendió una mano cuando lo necesitaba y Hodaka la rescató de unos hombres que la molestaban. This animated film tells the story of a 16-year-old boy named Hodaka who runs away from his home in an island village and sets sail for Tokyo to start a new life. There he has trouble getting a job because he is underage, but he finds a helping hand in a man who helped him on the boat and left him his contact card. Despite the inconveniences he goes through, he feels good in Tokyo, although this city is going through a period of rains never seen before. In the midst of all this, she meets Hina, a young woman who also lent her a hand when she needed it and Hodaka rescued her from some men who were bothering her. He also gave her a purpose in life, as Hina is not just any girl, she is a daughter of the sun, she has the gift of clearing the weather and bringing the sun back by praying to the sky. Las producciones de Makoto Shinkai tienen cierta magia que a mí me fascina, esta película no es la excepción. Acá lo que separa a los protagonistas es el tiempo, como bien se hace notar, pero me pasó algo raro en esta ocasión. Me gustó mucho, eso no lo voy a negar, sin embargo, siento que tiene un tinte mucho más oscuro que las anteriores películas que vi y fue un poco chocante en cierto punto porque los protagonistas no dejan de ser niños o, bueno, adolescentes y no se explicaron algunos sucesos tampoco. No entraré en detalles para no hacer spoilers, pero sentí que algunas situaciones no tenían mucho que ver con la trama y quedaban un poco colgadas.

Makoto Shinkai's productions have a certain magic that fascinates me, and this film is no exception. Here what separates the protagonists is time, as it is well noted, but something strange happened to me on this occasion. I liked it a lot, I won't deny that, however, I feel that it has a much darker tone than the previous movies I saw and it was a bit shocking at a certain point because the main characters are still children or, well, teenagers and some events were not explained either. I won't go into details so as not to make spoilers, but I felt that some situations didn't have much to do with the plot and were left hanging a bit.

Pero, a pesar de todo esto, me pareció una producción increíble. La animación siempre es muy hermosa de ver y el sentir de los personajes, cómo se van entrelazando sus historias o surge el amor, es algo que me atrapa. Los diálogos también son mágicos de escuchar y leer, hay ciertas frases que me quedan resonando después de un tiempo a modo de reflexión. El soundtrack también me gustó mucho, ustedes saben que una buena banda sonora la agradezco siempre.

But, in spite of all this, I thought it was an incredible production. The animation is always beautiful to watch and the feeling of the characters, how their stories intertwine or how love emerges, is something that catches me. The dialogues are also magical to listen to and read, there are certain phrases that resonate with me after a while as a reflection. I also liked the soundtrack a lot, you know that I always appreciate a good soundtrack.

Los personajes fueron entrañables y queribles, cada uno con sus realidades y problemas, me encantó el hermano pequeño de Hina y la sobrina de Kei que estaba siempre dispuesta a ayudar a todos. También me gustó mucho el cameo que hicieron con los personajes de Your Name, una de sus películas más conocidas. El multiverso Shinkai es fantástico. Creo que solo me falta ver la de Suzume y otras producciones más viejas que espero hacerlo pronto.

The characters were endearing and lovable, each with their realities and problems, I loved Hina's little brother and Kei's niece who was always willing to help everyone. I also really liked the cameo they did with the characters from Your Name, one of his best known movies. The Shinkai multiverse is fantastic. I think I just need to see Suzume's and other older productions which I hope to do soon.

Si bien me gustó esta película, no la considero la mejor de todas las que vi. Mi favorita sigue siendo Your Name y le sigue 5 centímetros por segundo. De todos modos, es algo diferente que ver si les gustan este estilo de animación. Lo que destacó acá es el final, fue el primero que vi que terminó con los protagonistas juntos de nuevo. Después de todo el tiempo, la distancia y las complicaciones que atravesaron se los agradezco porque es lo que me gusta que muestren, que el amor triunfe aunque sea en la ficción.

While I liked this film, I don't consider it the best of all the films I've seen. My favorite is still Your Name, followed by 5 centimeters per second. Anyway, it's something different to see if you like this style of animation. What stood out here is the ending, it was the first one I saw that ended with the main characters together again. After all the time, distance and complications they went through I thank them because that's what I like them to show, that love triumphs even if it's in fiction.

Sugar (2024) has really caught my attention, its not a series for everyone, I believe its a series for a certain niche kind of people who like certain style of movies, on a thread I mention its very Tarantino for multiple reasons so this recap will mostly talk about how you might enjoy or not this series moving forward. John Sugar the main character is a specialist at finding lost people, with a certain James Bond style it also reminds me at a not so popular movie of Nicolas Cage where he is hired by a widow to find a girl, different reasons but the end goal is to find a lost girl.

The reason why I like this series so much only on its second episodes its the style of production, the weird camera angles, the change in frames, mix images from 60s to modern 2000s on top of the mix of cultures from Japanese, Arabic, the guy speaks multiple languages and is very old school but over all a Movie Geek, Sugar (2024) is like you are watching Kill Bill Mix with James Bond on a kinda of time travel to match the contrast scenes from vintage to modern, its so awesome.

Right out of the start John Sugar presents himself as a private investigator, the series starts with a scene in Japan, black and white, old school zoom in on Mount Fuji with the classic circular shape closing in and moving into the next scene where John is looking for a kid that has been kidnap, sets the bait with some cash telling a guy he just left it down stairs, wtf that so silly but so it was on movies from the 60s. John is working for a Yakuza boss looking for his son who this random guy has kidnap and ask for ransom, the fight starts after the guy knows he has been discover and obviously John knows very well how to throw his hands around and tells the guy "I don't like hurting people" when he got him pin down.

We continue with the classic vintage theme and silly actions, John is back at his hotel eating dinner what looks like Japanese on a robe and catches a fly that was buzzing around with his shop sticks, come on; then lets it go, right after this scene it shows a modern city he staying in but at the same time has contrast scenes of probably how the same city look back say in between 70s to 90s to finish off with him reading an email while the camera zoom in and focus on what he is reading again on a classic old school circular shape shade style. The combination of all this aspects makes it so so special that many might not appreciate but its a very nostalgic production.

Making a pause on the production and working towards the context of the series, John is back in US to meet his agent named Ruby, she is very aware that John is sick, she might not know all the truth about it but she can tell, Ruby tries to go into every detail so he can take care of himself physically and mentally, trying to take some load out of his work managing clients but John likes to work with their clients at a personal level sometimes going too too extra mile on the job, Ruby knowing John doesn't like guns got him one but its the one Glenn Ford used on the movie The Big Heat, talk about manipulation. Ruby and John argue about a client he has recently take even after they already reach her and said John was not available but John has more than one reason to take this case.

I wonder this series with ever stop to amaze me with the production style and details to make John not your average private investigator, the guy drives a Corvette, don't quote me but if I'm not mistaken probably be a Nassau Blue 60s Stingray, at the same time while he cruise the city you get this mix images from 60s cars and him going fast, on top we get all kind of different camera angles like when he is on the car the is a shot from the middle console of the car towards his face when he is about to get out of the car, I know I'm probably not giving much context about the episode but the truth is that there is no action, all talk and private investigator work.

The reasons why John took the job, well the client is a very famous Hollywood Movie Producer who John is a fan, an old guy called Jonathan Siegel whose granddaughter Olivia is currently lost, Olvia reminds John of a woman Jen who has not yet been talk about, I assume is someone John lost in the past either daughter, client or even a girlfriend although she looks to young in the pictures to be his lover so John had no option but to take the job, too many things at the same time were screaming at him to take it and Ruby things its all bull shit because probably he has manipulate her in the past.

Mr. Siegel has reach and age that he no longer cares for himself but he does a lot for his granddaughter, there is one particular scenario that complicates things and its that in the past Olivia turn out to be unpredictable, she was a drug addict but the last time Mr. Siegel saw her they were celebrating her two years sober, she has disappear in the past although Mr. Siegel feels this time is different that probably something happen to her. John is going to have to start from ground zero since no body have seen her in a while and the best start is her apartment where also her car is, in there he will find quite a few leads of people that saw Olivia on the past two months and the hunt starts.

Sugar (2024) has a lot of unique aspects that has nothing to do with Colin Farell great acting so far or the script, the way the episodes are produce, the shots, the music, the camera angles, the scene contrasts, everything about it visually is awesome and nostalgic at the same time for any Movie Geek, I'm not pretending to be an expert about the topic but at least that is how this series makes my brain react.

The character of John Sugar himself is very cool too, all smooth, collected, expert at many things and talks many languages, even at a point you might think who the fuck is so nice to others but Sugar is a guy who give people second chances even when they look like they have reach rock bottom because that is why probably Olivia is missing, Sugar also look like a guy of many secrets but he has too based on the type of clients he manage, this is a great series and I might be just a bit to excited but I think I give it a 9/10 for the first episode hands down.

The story follows JB Peña, an Army veteran who moves with his wife to Del Rio, Texas. Peña is going to start a new job as the superintendent at San Felipe High School, even though is not an easy job he feels good with it. With a good job, a beautiful wife and a wonderful house he doesn’t feels completed or totally happy because he has a new goal to achieve and it was to become the first Mexican-American member of the all whit Del Rio Country Club, it was necessary for him since that way he could feel that he was finally accepted by the country he risked his life to serve. Unfortunately the group of republicans who manage the club denied the membership to JB. Despite the refusal received, JB’s life had other plans for him, while he was driven his car an errant golf ball crashes his car window and smacks him right on the head. When he realized what happen he saw a group of Latino teens playing golf, they were caddie at the club and they developed their own pleasure for the game. JB identified the teens and realized that they were students of the San Felipe High School, the school were he is superintendent and just like that, he formed the school first golf team. JB knew that it was not an easy task due to the state championship are hosted at the Del Rio Country Club, the club that for its racist managers denied JB membership. No matter the circumstances he was committed to guide the teens to the victory and they received help from JB friend Frank Mitchell who became his benefactor. Since this moment the teens and JB will start a training to play in the championship, despite the denial of the boys parents and the racism of the time they trained, dreamed, believed in themself and never give up until they reach their dream.

The story of The Long Game is a testament to the fight of racism that many groups in the world has fought to finally get their rights. JB Peña a veteran who fought for his country only wanted to be treated as equal, this is what is going to be reflected in this movie with the director of Julio Quintana, a story of determination and resilience and as many others with a deep message of never give up and always fight for your goals. The Long will premiered on April 12th, in theaters.

The movie was premiered at the SXSW Film Festival in 2023, receiving praised for the representation of authenticity, the direction and performances of this new group of actors. The story of a group of Mexican-American fighting for an opportunity to be part of game that was only for white people and that wasn’t allowed for them to play it. The Long Game want to transmit that human spirit that any dream can be possible. The movie was well acceptance in the festival and want to comit the same when it is premiered in theaters. The audience will received a movie that celebrate diversity, resilience and the power of storytelling. A true story with a true message of perseverance and unity.

The movie was film between Colombia and Texas. The filming process occurred as plan with a great synergy between the cast and production staff and director. As usual some critics emerged about the plot of the movie, a story of racism and hate that some people mention that needs to be in the past while others mention that is history and always good remember it. Despite the different postures of some critics which is OK because create an expectation in the audience, the movie directed by Quintana wants to give to the audience the true story of a group of boys that fight for a dream and that if you have a dream don’t give up to it, fight, achieve your goals and try to be happy. The director and the cast feels very happy for accomplished this amazing project and hope the audience really enjoy the movie that is transmitting the hope, fear, determination and commitment of a group who fights for what was right.

Fear is what holds the family together.

La historia está basada en un mundo de fantasía creado por un psicópata que quiere tener una familia perfecta, una esposa cariñosa que cuida a sus hijos y a su vez unos hijos obedientes y educados que siguen las reglas. El temor es lo que mantiene unida a la familia.

Plot | Argumento

The day I started watching it I watched half of the season, the first 3 episodes, because each episode was better than the last and ended in such an intriguing way that you want to continue. If it wasn't for the fact that I started at 9 pm and finished at 1 am, I would have continued without stopping.

The character of the father is very intriguing because during the whole time he appears on-screen you don't see his face, only at the end in chapter 6 which causes confusion to the viewer trying to identify this guy among the possible suspects, it was very funny to relate him with the other characters, but in the end my hypothesis was wrong; this guy arrives at the house every so often, which is a fort that he built, completely closed without windows or natural air currents, for a moment I thought it was underground, an element that stands out in the miniseries, I had an incredible feeling of claustrophobia. The wife and children received oxygen from an electric plant, which sometimes failed.

Everything in the house had to be clean, tidy and perfect, the mother and children had a strict timetable for everything, for eating, going to the bathroom, sleeping and doing their homework and when the father arrived he would check the details and if he got upset the punishment was physical and mental and most of the time he would take it out on the wife, When she is alone with her children she is cheerful and confident when the husband arrives she becomes clumsy, her nervousness is due not only to the dynamics of the house but also to the fact that she is forced to act as if she were someone else, changing her name and hair colour, as she has been kidnapped to assume the personality of another woman.

The children seemed well accustomed to their surroundings. The boy was sweet and innocent, loving his mother. The girl was the older of the two and, with a strong and dominant character, switched roles with her father. The girl's character developed in each chapter, keeping me confused and not knowing whether she was the victim or the perpetrator.

El día que empecé a verla vi la mitad de la temporada, los primeros 3 capítulos, porque cada capítulo era mejor que el anterior y terminaba de una manera tan intrigante que quieres continuar. Si no fuera porque comencé a las 9 pm y terminé a la 1 a. m., hubiese seguido sin parar.

El personaje del padre es muy intrigante porque durante todo el tiempo que aparece en pantalla no se le ve el rostro, sino al final en el capítulo 6 lo que causa confusión al espectador tratando de identificar a este sujeto entre los posibles sospechosos, fue muy divertido relacionarlo con los demás personajes, pero al final mi hipótesis estaba errada; este sujeto cada cierto tiempo llega a la casa que es un fuerte que construyo, completamente cerrado sin ventanas ni corrientes de aire natural, por un momento pensé que estaba bajo tierra y era subterráneo, elemento que destaca en la miniserie su ambiente, tuve una sensación de claustrofobia increíble. Todo en la casa tenía que estar limpio, ordenado y ser perfecto, la madre e hijos tenían un estricto horario para todo, para comer, ir al baño, para dormir y hacer sus deberes y cuando llegaba el padre él revisaba los detalles y si se molestaba el castigo era físico y mental que la mayoría de las veces lo drenaba con la esposa, quien se muestra nerviosa y confundida debido a la presión que es sometida, cuando está sola con sus hijos es alegre y segura al llegar el esposo se vuelve torpe, su nerviosismo se debe no solo la dinámica de la casa sino a que está obligada a actuar como si fuera otra persona, cambiando de nombre y color de cabello, ya que ha sido secuestrada para asumir la personalidad de otra mujer.

Los niños parecían estar bien acostumbrados a su entorno. El varón era dulce e inocente, quería a su mamá. La niña era la mayor de los dos y, con un carácter fuerte y dominante, cambiaba de rol con su padre. El personaje de la niña se fue desarrollando en cada capítulo, me mantenía confundida y no sabía si era la víctima o el victimario.

🎥 I really liked the suspense maintained throughout the season, the special effects and the development of the events; however, I feel that they lacked time in the last episode because there were some things left unclear, maybe that was the intention to give continuity to a second season.

🎥 Although there was closure in the last episode, it is possible that they will create a second season. I would like to see how the girl's traumas transform into adolescence. It's a good miniseries, I recommend it.

Episode one was catalog as a Pilot episode and those are usually not strong ones so many don't even consider it as a real episode and even few times its taken away from the production but in this case episode two of Parish (2024) I would say was stronger, I still have a hard time watching Gean Carlo trying to play the role of a bad ass because lets be honest he is not look like on, even during the times of Breaking Bad he was the elegant master mind behind everything, a business man , he most likely fit into the wise old retired wheel man role who know how to deal with the BOSS and even act as a boss.

To keep things short and not spoil the entire episode, he safe The Horse ass this time, sounds funny but truth is that I still don't know his first name. On episode two they talk a bit more about their real business, human trafficking and the job Parish pull was basically to get a back of stolen passports that most likely belong to working people who someone brought and basically enslave them.

Little by little more of Parish's son is been reveal this time we only got a small glimpse of the accident but does feature a cop in specific who latter on goes to talk to Parish about Colin.

Episode one also ends with Parish and Colin with a lot of shit on their hands now with a dead man, not only dead but a lot of blood on his garage he knows that if things are not done right and some trail is left behind he will most likely be fucked big time and who knows if it might tied him to his past, besides Colin was part of this job.

We already know that The Horse runs a family business, there is his brother, sister and father back at home who is probably the one who started the hole thing, although Zenzo his brother use to run the show when they were in Africa, I wonder when and how The Horse took his place? and if at some point might lead to any of the three betray each other, Zenzo could actually enrage with envy and sell out The Horse to gain control of the family business.

There is an entire scene of Colin and Parish cleaning up the mess and it was a cool scene, it really makes you think how hard is to cover up something like that, all the labor and details included, besides all the cleaning they have to do to get rid of all the blood on the floor and on them because burning their clothes wont cut it and to make things worst they almost got caught by Parish secretary, took them all night to clean up everything.

There is one aspect of getting rid of the body that really look stupid although they some how have to add a risky move to raise everyone dopamine levels, Parish decides to take the body home with him and hide it on the garage freezer, his wife and daughter almost caught him, his wife was the one closer to the body when she tries to open the freezer but he put on a punching bag on lid, make no sense how she didn't ask him to remove so she could open the freezer, it was just too obvious, that part I didn't like at all.

To make things worst for him the local police, NOPD shows up to Parish place asking for Colin and he lie to them in front of wife and daughter, refusing he has seen Colin in the last 17 years, its weird how they looking for Colin because after getting rid of the body he was interview by his parole officer, he is an ex convict and still under Probation so makes me think he either ran away or kill them, I don't think he was that stupid to kill them but now shit hit the fan for Parish since he will be dragged with Colin, that is what the story is all about, how Parish gets dragged back into his old life.

The Horse and his sister pays a visit to a man called Perry Lousteau, he also seem to be involve in the human tracking business, they talk about cutting the middle men meaning they will bring him all the labor he needs and even cutting his expenses to half of what it currently is, they mostly talk about servants and drivers so there is the chance that they not talking about his house but he must have some sort of business where he has if not hundreds of employees or workers probably at a farm or factory who would work for The Horse at half of the price, if not a third of what this guy Perry will actually pay for, Perry did mention that he is in but the middle man they getting rid of wont let this slide and I think that is why The Horse towards then end is involve on a shooting, I doubt they kill him in the second episode it just don't make sense but Parish was at the wheel and got his son safe, this will put him high in the ranks and probably get him some trouble with Zenzo when he see his brother praise Parish for what he did.

Episode two did pick up the pace and I'm glad they did because if would be a total disappoint after episode one but I hope it will slowly keep improving, what really intrigue me right now is what is the story behind Parish's son death if it happen because of old life and now he is going back to it, something I don't like about AMC series is that they give out a big chunk of next episode and sadly I let the video run til the end since I was doing something else after I finish and heard most of whats coming up and its exactly that, Parish will have to face his wife for whats going on at the moment, most likely Colin will sell him out so it really interest me how Parish reacts, if he either go all in with The Horse crew or he tries to get out of all that trouble.

The story follows Irena Gut Opdyke, a 19 year old nursing student living in a time when Germany occupied Poland. She and a group of people were taken into custody and assigned to various jobs, Irena was sent to work in a munitions factory where she is put in charge of 12 Jews working as tailors for the factory chiefs. One day she is she overhears that a senior Nazi is telling an officer in charge of the factory that needs to start looking for a replacement of the workers because within a few months there won’t be a Jew left, it really hurt Irena and decided that she needs to do something to help them. She was moved to the house Major Rugemer as the housekeeper and in that place she start working in her plan of rescue the Jewish people of the factory, she hid them in the cellar of the house one night after she put a sleeping pill in the major bedtime milk. She was putting her life in danger but she doesn’t care because more importantly was save the life of others. She start living in constant danger hiding that people in the Major house. Major Rugemer announced one day that he will hire a person to help her but she insisted that she can handle the work in that big house that she doesn’t need anyone. The Major accepted not knowing that she was receiving help of the Jewish that are hidden in the house. Everything was running as plan for Irena but unfortunately one day the Major Rugemer discovers Irena secret and called her traitor, he saw two Jewish woman and wanted to kill them but Irena place between them and the gun of the Major asking him to kill her instead of the other women because they were innocents. At the end the Major forces Irena to share his bed to keep her secret. Irena’s Vow is a true story of a woman that decided not to be only a witness of the atrocities of World War II instead of that decided to be part of the few people that choose the hard path of help the little Jewish community that were being exterminated by the Nazis. She with determination, strength, also fear and scared but with courage risked her own life to keep save 12 Jewish woman and men, who became part of her life, like a little family and that gave the opportunity to feel that life matters and put her life in danger for that was more important that left them die. The audience is going to be part of her journey and continue appreciating the story of true heroes like Irena.

The story of Irena’s Vow is going to tell the journey of her heroism and determination in favor of the survival of other people, her courage to face cruel events and give her own life to save others. The movie was directed by Louise Archambault and the cast led by Sophie Nélisse, both have received acclaimed in this film. Irena’s Vow will premiered on April 15th, in theaters.

Louise Archambault is a Canadian film and television director and screenwriter. For this question Irena Gut Opdyke decided to break silence and tell her experiences during the World War II. Irena’s Vow is a movie that will give the perspective of a person who worked for a Nazi officer but even that it doesn’t afraid her in do something important, save people life. The audience will enjoy a movie with a great direction, great performances and a true story live for a real person, and as it says reality always exceeds the fiction, in this is what happen one more time. Many people will tell another movie about the Holocaust, there are already many of them and that’s true, but is part of our history and all the story haven’t being told yet. This is an opportunity for new generations that doesn’t know about this part of history to met with it and know that a few people take the courage to placed there own life in risk to save others, in this case the Jewish community who suffered many atrocities from the German until it was almost exterminated. Irena was a superhero that decided to take the vow that every life matter, she was a catholic woman who believed that life was important and demonstrated it by keeping save 12 members of the Jewish community in the same house where she was working, the house of a Nazi Major, a risky move but a one that worked. Irena died in 2003 but she left a legacy of humanity, courage, love and strength that will live for ever.
