"Real American" documentary about Hulk Hogan is a winner!
I don't often write about what I have watched on TV and this isn't because I don't watch things, I definitely do. In fact, I probably spend too much time watching stupid crap when I should be outside on the beach exploring and taking advantage of the wonderful things that this part of the world has to offer.

My excuse: It's really hot outside and my dog gets lonely if I don't take her with me and she gets too hot if I do take her with me.

Anyway, the other day I was at a friend's pub and he mentioned that there was a 4 part Hulk Hogan documentary that just dropped on Netflix so I went home that same day and started watching it.

When I was a kid I really enjoyed wrestling. My friends were in the same boat with me and we would buy the wrestling magazines and tune in for mostly what would end up becoming WCW (the competitor to WWF-later WWE.) One of the things that myself and my friends had was a kind of loathing for the Hulk Hogan character. We were more fans of the 4-Horsemen and other bad guys. Very few of us had cable, if you are old enough to even know what saying that means, so the only news we ever really got about the WWF was from magazines whereas the WCW (then called NWA) matches were on "regular TV" a couple of times a week on TBS.

So while I was aware of the huge impact that Hogan had on wrestling as far as popularizing it was concerned, I don't think that as a kid that I ever even saw a full match of his.

As I got older I kind of started to fade away from wrestling but I would catch up with what was going on from time to time or maybe play a videogame where since I never bothered to learn the real controls I simply just hit buttons as fast as I could in the hopes that it was going to make some sort of move happen.

In all of those years that I wasn't really paying attention, Hulk Hogan kept right on going at it and staying in the limelight for a long period of time. During all of a lot of this though, the internet was kind of in its beginning stages so I didn't really have any idea, until I watched this documentary, that Hogan was having a ton of problems in his personal life that I think most people are aware of today.

When he popped up in some rally for Donald Trump a few years ago my first reaction was "that guy is still alive?"

well it would turn out that he wouldn't be alive for much longer as this documentary points out in the opening scenes of the first episode where his funeral is taking place.

I think there are a lot of people that really don't like Hogan now but I believe that much of this has to do with him getting involved in a political sense towards the end of his life. I didn't like the Hulk Hogan character because I was a fan of the bad guys or heels and Hogan spent most of his career being the direct opposite of that. He was always not just a good guy, but the goodest good guy.

While I was watching this documentary I recall a lot of the things like the "say your prayers, eat your vitamins, be good to your parents" sort of stuff he would shout during his promos.

I kind of learned a lot about the guy watching this that I kind of missed all of due to one, not having cable as a kid, and then later because I was in college and other things occupied my time and then even later because I had a job and then even later later because I moved to Thailand and lived in a jungle house that didn't even have an internet connection. It's a strange life that I have lead.
[src](https://subversiverabbit.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Hulk-Hogan-Real-American-2026-Documentary-Scene-18.jpg) I do recall the energy of the Hulk Hogan character though and love him or hate him, I couldn't help but feel a sort of sympathy for the "brother" whenhe is getting interviewed and he is with his kids working out and the guy is just really old and needs to use canes and various other devices simply to get around. I guess that is what a lifetime in the industry will do to a person.
I don't know if this documentary is really going to surprise that many people like when they do the rather soft and kind expose into steroid use and how he cheated on his wife. I don't know how naive a person would have to be in order to not just assume both of these things but apparently you have to be a great deal more naive than I am. Of course he was doing both of these things and it is not a surprise at all to have the man himself admit it for a 4-part special.

A learned a lot about him and his life during all of this that I wasn't privy to when I was growing up such as the fact that in the beginning, even though he was friggin everywhere in adverts, cartoons, merchandising, and films, the guy wasn't making very much money because there wasn't a lot of money in wrestling until around the 90's. They do a whole portion of the show about how the first Wrestlemania involved a lot of people betting everything they have and then a bunch of borrowed money on this event being a hit. Now it is one of the biggest "sporting" events that takes place in the world and WWE, despite being a product that everyone other than little kids already knows is scripted, manages to make just crazy amounts of money every year.

If you were a fan of wrestling then or now I think you will really enjoy this special. I had to cut myself off at midnight when the 2nd episode was over because I knew that I would just binge all the way to the end to the detriment of my own sleep schedule.

There are interviews with basically anyone involved in wrestling and a lot of people that are not including Trump himself. Basically, if the person is still alive, they likely have something to say about Terry "Hulk" Hogan.

This is available on Netflix right now and I think most people have a Netflix subscription, right?

It's a kind of tragic tale but at least they get that out of the way right at the start since they begin the entire thing at the guy's funeral. The really cool thing about the filming is that they spent the time to do a lot of these interviews the year before he died and this says to me that nobody even knew the guy was sick. This was meant to be released while he was still alive perhaps?

Whatever the reasoning is there, I thoroughly enjoyed this and think you will as well.

Uncle Buck (1989) Is One Of John Candy’s Best Performances And One Of The Warmest Comedies Of The Eighties. Beneath The Laughs, It Is A Film About Family, Responsibility, And Unexpected Growth.
Released in 1989 and written and directed by John Hughes, Uncle Buck is one of those films that feels simple on the surface but works because of the heart underneath it. Hughes was already known for understanding family dynamics and awkward life moments, and here he built a comedy around a character who could have easily been just a joke but instead became memorable and lovable.

John Candy plays Buck Russell, the irresponsible but good hearted bachelor suddenly asked to watch his brother’s kids during a family emergency. Buck is not exactly the picture of reliability. He smokes too much, drives a massive old car that barely works, and approaches life with complete chaos. But Candy gives him such warmth that you immediately trust him.

The plot is straightforward. Buck is left in charge of his young niece and nephew along with his teenage niece Tia, who wants absolutely nothing to do with him. What follows is a mix of comedy, awkward bonding, and Buck slowly proving that while he may not look like the ideal guardian, he cares deeply and shows up when it matters.

Macaulay Culkin, before Home Alone made him a household name, is great as Miles, delivering sharp one liners and dry reactions that steal several scenes. Gaby Hoffmann as Maizy brings innocence and sweetness, while Jean Louisa Kelly as Tia gives the film its emotional conflict.

Tia’s relationship with Buck is one of the strongest parts of the movie. She sees him as an embarrassment and does not trust him, while Buck has to earn that trust instead of demanding it. Their dynamic gives the story real emotional weight and keeps it from becoming just a collection of comedy scenes.

Amy Madigan plays Chanice, Buck’s patient but frustrated girlfriend, and she adds another layer by forcing Buck to confront his own immaturity. Their relationship shows that Buck’s biggest challenge is not babysitting. It is finally growing up enough to be dependable.

John Hughes directs the film with the same strength he brought to his best work. He understands timing, both for comedy and for quieter emotional moments. He lets scenes breathe instead of rushing to the next joke, which is why the characters feel real.

Of course, the film has its unforgettable comedy moments. The giant pancakes, the clown at the birthday party, the legendary scene with Buck confronting Tia’s boyfriend, and the interrogation of the school principal all remain classic because Candy knew how to make even small moments hilarious.

What makes Uncle Buck stand out is that Buck is never turned into a cartoon. He is messy, flawed, and often irresponsible, but he is also kind. Candy makes him feel like someone you probably know, not just a comedy invention.

The movie also captures something very specific about late eighties family comedies. It feels lived in. The house, the conversations, the awkward family tension — it all feels grounded instead of overly polished. That realism helps the emotional moments hit harder.

John Candy’s performance is the reason the film still works so well decades later. He had a rare ability to be funny without losing sincerity. Buck could have been played as pure slapstick, but Candy made him human.

Over time, Uncle Buck has become one of those comfort movies people keep returning to. It may not be as flashy as some other Hughes classics, but it has a warmth that gives it lasting value.

In the end, Uncle Buck is an excellent film because it balances comedy with genuine heart. It reminds you that family is often messy, and sometimes the least expected person ends up being exactly who you need.

It is funny, memorable, and carried by one of John Candy’s best performances. That alone makes it a classic worth revisiting.

MOVIE REVIEW: “Blue Box” (2026)

Synopsis: Pablo is a young millionaire who is constantly haunted by a tragic car accident that changed his life. Living in isolation in a house in Patagonia, he ends up meeting Lara (through a dating app). However, what should be a new beginning for both of them ends up becoming a complex game of lies.

I really didn't expect Spanish cinema to be so surprising, at least when it comes to dramatic suspense. Although this movie is not a masterful example of a sharp script, it is well-crafted within the nuances it wants to address and manages to create a latent tension, even if it takes a while for everything to happen more intensely. Featuring one of its great highlights an assertive subversion of expectations (which is very efficient), the plot manages to be both engaging and intriguing in its subtext, connecting different points of view through tightly woven "knots."

A life isolated from civilization is what Pablo, a young billionaire suffering from trauma related to his parents, lives. When, influenced by a friend, he decides to download a dating app called Blue Box, he hopes to find someone who will bring back his desire to be happy again. When contacted by Lara, they connect after their first date... However, Lara is not exactly the person he's looking for, and he ends up entangled in a web of lies, where the pursuit of the prize, which is being kept secret, becomes potentially deadly for everyone around her.

Perhaps many people don't like suspense movies that reveal part of their secret right at the beginning. However, even doing so in its first scenes, this movie manages to hold the best surprises for the final scenes. This type of approach ended up working very well within this plot, because its pace is very slow most of the time. Even so, the development between the main characters is very interesting from the beginning, because you know that one of them is lying and the script raises the tension about what is yet to come. Almost nothing is what it really seems to be, because here lies are everywhere.

Apparently, the audience has a clear understanding of what's happening... Which turns out not to be true as the script delivers new pieces to assemble this puzzle. The slow pace ends up being something engaging within the narrative, because while the lies are being amplified by one side, the consequences of these acts become even worse than had been planned within this con artist plot. Both are victims of their own choices... But the script intertwines Pablo and Lara's relationship in a more complex context, which challenges the audience's perception of all the events.

The first two acts of the movie work very well. The dome of uncertainty within a game of seduction combined with a web of lies becomes psychologically attractive. No one is innocent here, and it's very fun to see how the script manages to "play" with the audience's perspective on what is really happening, by presenting a great plot twist in its final scenes. The weak point here is precisely the conclusion of the third act, which, despite remaining sustainable in narrative terms, could have been much better explored with more screen time.

In the third act, things become a bit more caricatured. The scenes seem to have been rushed to finish this project, which, by the way, has a low-budget technical production. Fortunately, this doesn't spoil the satisfying experience of watching this movie, which manages to be substantially satisfying within its proposal. The essence of the plot is very good, and even though its development suffers from a lack of boldness in stretching its execution with more immersive scenes, the overall result is very positive. I will definitely watch more Spanish movies from now on.

Gustavo Bassani and Luisana Lopilato deliver individually good performances, but I believe they don't work as well when they have to share the screen in the same scene. There is no synergy between them, and the level of acting becomes somewhat mismatched, as if there were an "internal struggle" over the best angle to movie. On the other hand, the supporting cast tries to complement the plot with some random scenes, but it doesn't help much. It's not a movie with outstanding performances, but they still manage to carry the weight of the plot completely.

Directed by Martín Hodara and partially written by him, alongside Cesar Sodero, it can be said that Blue Box has more positive than negative points. The script's job here is to twist the audience's expectations with good plot twists, and with the effective work done by the direction, the objective is achieved. Even with some slips at crucial moments within the plot, the project is quite functional due to the "fusion" of its arguments. Without a doubt, this movie could have been much more surprising (than it actually is), but it's worth watching attentively.

CRÍTICA DE PELÍCULA: “La Caja Azul” (2026)

Sinopsis: Pablo es un joven millonario atormentado por un trágico accidente automovilístico que cambió su vida. Aislado en una casa en la Patagonia, conoce a Lara (a través de una aplicación de citas). Sin embargo, lo que debería ser un nuevo comienzo para ambos se convierte en un complejo juego de mentiras.

No esperaba que el cine español fuera tan sorprendente, al menos en lo que respecta al suspense dramático. Si bien esta película no destaca por su guion brillante, está bien construida en los matices que aborda y logra crear una tensión latente, aunque la intensidad de la trama tarda en alcanzar su punto álgido. Uno de sus mayores aciertos es la subversión de las expectativas (muy efectiva), la trama logra ser a la vez atractiva e intrigante en su trasfondo, conectando diferentes puntos de vista a través de "nudos" intrincados.

Pablo, un joven multimillonario que sufre un trauma relacionado con sus padres, vive aislado de la civilización. Influenciado por un amigo, decide descargar una aplicación de citas llamada Blue Box con la esperanza de encontrar a alguien que le devuelva la felicidad. Tras su primera cita, Lara lo contacta y conectan... Sin embargo, Lara no es exactamente la persona que él busca, y termina enredado en una red de mentiras, donde la búsqueda del premio, que se mantiene en secreto, se vuelve potencialmente mortal para todos los que la rodean.

Quizás a muchos no les gusten las películas de suspense que revelan parte de su secreto desde el principio. Sin embargo, incluso haciéndolo en sus primeras escenas, esta película logra reservar las mejores sorpresas para el final. Este enfoque funciona muy bien en esta trama, ya que su ritmo es lento la mayor parte del tiempo. Aun así, la relación entre los personajes principales es muy interesante desde el principio, porque se sabe que uno de ellos miente y el guion aumenta la tensión sobre lo que está por venir. Casi nada es lo que parece, porque aquí las mentiras están por todas partes.

Aparentemente, el público entiende claramente lo que sucede... Lo cual resulta no ser cierto, ya que el guion aporta nuevas piezas para completar este rompecabezas. El ritmo pausado termina siendo un elemento atractivo dentro de la narrativa, porque mientras una de las partes amplifica las mentiras, las consecuencias de estos actos se vuelven incluso peores de lo previsto en esta trama de estafadores. Ambos son víctimas de sus propias decisiones... Pero el guion entrelaza la relación entre Pablo y Lara en un contexto más complejo, lo que desafía la percepción que tiene el público de todos los acontecimientos.

Los dos primeros actos de la película funcionan muy bien. La incertidumbre que rodea un juego de seducción, combinado con una red de mentiras, resulta psicológicamente atractiva. Aquí nadie es inocente, y es muy entretenido ver cómo el guion logra “jugar” con la perspectiva del público sobre lo que realmente sucede, presentando un gran giro argumental en sus escenas finales. El punto débil reside precisamente en la conclusión del tercer acto, que, si bien se mantiene coherente narrativamente, podría haberse explorado mucho mejor con más tiempo en pantalla.

En el tercer acto, la trama se torna un tanto caricaturesca. Las escenas parecen haber sido filmadas con prisas para terminar este proyecto, que, por cierto, cuenta con una producción técnica de bajo presupuesto. Afortunadamente, esto no empaña la experiencia de ver la película, que logra ser bastante satisfactoria dentro de su propuesta. La esencia de la trama es muy buena, y aunque su desarrollo adolece de falta de audacia al extender su ejecución con escenas más inmersivas, el resultado general es muy positivo. Sin duda, veré más películas españolas a partir de ahora.

Gustavo Bassani y Luisana Lopilato ofrecen interpretaciones individuales buenas, pero creo que no funcionan tan bien cuando comparten pantalla en la misma escena. No hay sinergia entre ellos, y el nivel de actuación se ve algo desequilibrado, como si hubiera una "lucha interna" por el mejor ángulo de filmación. Por otro lado, el reparto secundario intenta complementar la trama con algunas escenas aleatorias, pero no aporta mucho. No es una película con actuaciones sobresalientes, pero aun así logran sostener completamente el peso de la trama.

Dirigida por Martín Hodara y escrita en parte por él, junto a César Sodero, se puede decir que La Caja Azul tiene más puntos positivos que negativos. El guion se encarga de sorprender al público con giros argumentales acertados, y gracias a la eficaz dirección, se logra el objetivo. A pesar de algunos fallos en momentos cruciales de la trama, el proyecto funciona bastante bien gracias a la coherencia de sus argumentos. Sin duda, esta película podría haber sido mucho más sorprendente (de lo que realmente es), pero merece la pena verla con atención.

CRÍTICA DE FILME: “A Caixa Azul” (2026)

Sinopse: Pablo é um jovem milionário que é constantemente assombrado por um trágico acidente de carro que mudou sua vida. Vivendo isoladamente numa casa na Patagônia, ele acaba conhecendo (por meio de um aplicativo de namoro) Lara. No entanto, o que seria um novo recomeço para ambos, acaba se tornando um ramificado jogo de mentiras.

Eu realmente não esperava que o cinema espanhol conseguisse ser tão surpreendente, ao menos quando o assunto é fazer suspense dramático. Embora esse filme não seja um exemplo magistral de um roteiro afiado, ele é bem modelado dentro das nuances que quer abordar e consegue criar um clima de tensão latente, mesmo demorando um pouco até que tudo aconteça com mais intensidade. Trazendo como um dos seus grandes destaques uma assertiva subversão de expectativas (que é muito eficiente), a trama consegue ser atrativa e ao mesmo tempo intrigante nas suas entrelinhas que conectam diferentes pontos de vista através de "nós" bem atados.

No entanto, Lara não é exatamente a pessoa que ele procura, e ele acaba sendo envolvido em uma rede de mentiras, onde à busca pelo prêmio que está sendo mantido sobre segredo se torna potencialmente mortal para todos os envolvidos ao redor dela.

Talvez muitas pessoas não gostem de filmes de suspense que revelam uma parte do seu segrego logo no seu início. No entanto, mesmo fazendo isso logo nas suas primeiras cenas, esse filme consegue segurar as melhores surpresa para as cenas finais. Esse tipo de abordagem acabou funcionando muito bem dentro dessa trama, porque o ritmo dela é muito lento na maior parte do tempo. Mesmo assim, o desenvolvimento entre os personagens principais é muito interessante desde o início, porque você sabe que um deles está mentindo e o roteiro eleva a tensão sobre o que ainda está por vir. Quase nada é o que realmente parece ser, porque aqui as mentiras estão por todos os lados.

Aparentemente, há uma visão clara por parte do público sobre o que está acontecendo... O que acaba não sendo uma verdade à medida em que o roteiro vai entregando novas peças para montar esse quebra-cabeças. O ritmo lento acaba sendo algo envolvendo dentro da narrativa, porque enquanto as mentiras vão sendo potencializadas por um dos lados, as consequências desses atos se tornam ainda piores do que havia sido planejado dentro dessa trama golpista. Ambos são vítimas se suas próprias escolhas... Mas o roteiro entrelaça a relação de Pablo e Lara num contexto mais complexo, que vai desafiando a percepção do público sobre todos os eventos.

Os dois primeiros atos do filme funcionam muito bem. A redoma de incertezas dentro de um jogo de sedução aliado a uma teia de mentiras se torna psicologicamente atrativa. Ninguém é inocente aqui, e é muito divertido perceber como o roteiro consegue “brincar” com a perspectiva do público sobre o que realmente está acontecendo, ao apresentar um grande plot twist nas suas cenas finais. O ponto fraco aqui é justamente a conclusão do terceiro ato, que apesar de se manter como algo sustentável em termos narrativos, poderia ter sido bem melhor explorada com mais tempo de tela.

No terceiro ato, as coisas se tornam um pouco mais caricatas. As cenas parecem ter sido apressadas para finalizar esse projeto, que aliás, tem uma produção técnica de baixo orçamento. Felizmente, isso não acaba estragando a experiência satisfatória em assistir a esse filme, que consegue ser substancialmente satisfatório dentro da sua proposta. A essência da trama é muito boa, e mesmo tendo um desenvolvimento que peca pela falta de ousadia em esticar à sua execução com cenas mais imersivas, o saldo é muito positivo. Eu definitivamente vou assistir mais filmes espanhóis desde então.

Gustavo Bassani e Luisana Lopilato entregam atuações individualmente boas, mas eu acredito que eles não funcionam tão bem quando tem que dividir à tela em uma mesma cena. Não há sinergia entre eles, a o nível de atuação se torna um tanto quando descompassado, como se houvesse uma “briga interna” pelo melhor ângulo a ser filmado. Por outro lado, o elenco de apoio até tenta complementa a trama com algumas cenas aleatórias, mas não consegue ajudar muito. Não se trata de um filme com atuações marcantes, mas ainda sim, conseguem sustentar o peso da trama por completo.

Dirigido por Martín Hodara e parcialmente escrito por ele mesmo, ao lado de Cesar Sodero, pode se dizer que A Caixa Azul tem mais pontos positivos do que negativos. O trabalho do roteiro aqui é tentar retorcer as expectativas do público com boas reviravoltas, e com o efetivo trabalho feito pela direção o objetivo é atingido. Mesmo havendo alguns deslizes em momentos cruciais dentro da trama, o projeto é bastante funcional pela “fusão” dos seus argumentos. Sem dúvidas de que esse filme poderia ter sido bem mais surpreendente (do que fato é), mas vale à pena ser assistido com atenção.

Plot

The film begins with our protagonist, Harry Potter, practicing magic spells like Lumos Maximus at night while his Uncle Vernon walks into his room to see what he’s doing. The next day, Harry asks his uncle to sign a form, but his uncle replies that he’ll do it only if Harry behaves himself that day—which, coincidentally, is when his Aunt Marge is coming to visit. That same afternoon, while they’re talking after lunch, Aunt Marge starts talking about Harry’s parents, calling them poor and worthless. Our protagonist gets upset and, without meaning to, casts a spell on Marge, who inflates completely like a balloon and flies away.

La película inicia con nuestro protagonista, Harry Potter, practicando hechizos mágicos como lo es Lumus Máxima de noche mientras su tío Vernon entra a su cuarto a ver qué está haciendo. Without a doubt, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite movie in the entire film series. And I don’t just say that because I’ve been fascinated by it since I was a child, but because of everything it represents for the franchise as a whole. The impact this third installment had on the industry was so significant that it even influenced how subsequent Harry Potter films were produced. But let’s not just talk about that—let’s also discuss its story, which is the most special of all because it features a character who has gone down in history, and I’m not talking about Voldemort.

But before I tell you about him, I want to mention first just how much I loved this Harry Potter movie back then. Even now, I consider it the best this franchise has produced, as it has a darker tone and is somewhat more mature and profound than the previous two films. Imagine watching this movie as a child or a pre-teen and enjoying a story so perfectly crafted that it became completely ingrained in your memory for the rest of your life. Very few movies have achieved this in my life, and in the case of the Harry Potter movies, only this one has managed it.

Definitivamente, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban es mi película favorita de toda la saga cinematográfica que existe actualmente. Y no solo lo digo por lo mucho que me fascinó verla desde que era niño, sino por todo lo que representa para la franquicia como tal. La forma en la que esta tercera entrega impactó en la industria fue tan grande que hasta influyó en la manera de producir las posteriores películas de Harry Potter. Muy pocas películas han logrado esto en mi vida y en el caso de las películas de Harry Potter solo ésta lo ha conseguido.

Of course, how could this movie not surprise you when it hits the ground running from the very first seconds? Aside from its impressive audiovisual and production quality, the story also jumps right in with all the essential elements that remind us of our protagonist’s tragic life. As he spends another summer with each of his relatives, Harry Potter has to put up with his Uncle Vernon’s sister, Aunt Marge, who wastes no time insulting Harry’s parents. Harry accidentally casts a spell on her, turning her into a giant human balloon. Our protagonist leaves the house and heads to catch a bus.

This bus is called the “Night Bus” and picks up Harry, who asks them to take him to the Leaky Cauldron in London. There, he is greeted by the Minister of Magic, Cornelius Fudge, who tells Harry he has nothing to worry about regarding what he did to his aunt. However, he reminds him how dangerous it is to be out alone at night because a dangerous criminal is on the loose: Sirius Black. I don’t think there’s a more fascinating and entertaining opening to a movie than the one in this third installment. I love how the film introduces new characters who need no more than a couple of minutes to earn the world’s hatred, such as Aunt Marge.

Another thing I really loved about this movie is the way it shows us a more emotionally unstable, rebellious, and defiant Harry Potter. We’ve already seen glimpses of this in the two previous films, but here we can see how these traits have intensified throughout the movie. But we’ll talk more about that later, since there’s something else in this film’s plot that really caught my attention from the start: the way it introduces the main antagonist. Sirius Black is presented as a criminal, a murderer who has escaped from Azkaban Prison—a place from which no one has ever escaped alive.

From the first half-hour of the film, we see the reputation Sirius Black has in the wizarding world, being branded both a murderer and a traitor, as well as a former follower of “You-Know-Who” (Lord Voldemort). This is the only time Voldemort’s name is mentioned throughout the film, thus directing almost all the antagonistic focus toward Sirius Black. This in itself is quite striking because it is the first and only film in the entire Harry Potter saga to feature an antagonist who is not Voldemort. I, for one, really love this because it allows us to see a very different villain and story.

Cosa que ya hemos visto a grandes rasgos en las dos películas anteriores, pero aquí podemos ver cómo estas cualidades se han ido intensificando a lo largo de esta película. Pero luego hablaremos más al respecto ya que hay algo más en la trama de esta película que me llamó mucho la atención desde un principio y es la forma en la que nos introduce al antagonista principal. Sirius Black es presentado como un criminal, un asesino que ha escapado de la Prisión de Azkaban, un lugar donde nunca antes ha escapado nadie con vida.

Podemos ver desde la primera media hora de película la reputación que tiene Sirius Black en el mundo mágico, siendo tachado tanto de asesino como también de traidor y un ex-seguidor de “Tú Sabes Quién” (Lord Voldemort). Esta es la única vez en la que se menciona el nombre de Voldemort a lo largo de la película, dándole así casi toda la atención antagónica a Sirius Black. To explain this a bit, I’ll just say that Dementors are terrible monsters that feed on people’s happy memories.

Aparte de la muerte de sus padres, también vivió toda su infancia y parte de su preadolescencia con sus tíos quienes lo trataban de lo peor. Si es de tener algún buen recuerdo, sería estando en Hogwarts. Pero cuando hablamos de recuerdos “felices e intensos” él mismo nos cuenta que solo uno le sirvió para lograrlo y fue un recuerdo inventado. Los efectos de sonido también destacan bastante, sobre todo al momento de realizar hechizos ya que el director ideó una forma única de sonido que pasó a la posteridad. La banda sonora también es otra cosa fascinante de esta película, incluso mejor que las anteriores gracias a John Williams.

Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 10/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía.

How are you all? I hope you are well. Today I am sharing a slightly different experience. After a long time, I watched a movie alone, Sarah’s Oil. Actually, after watching the movie, I felt like many thoughts were running through my head at once. So I thought I would write them down as they are.

The beginning of the movie is very soft, slow. When I first saw Sarah, she seemed like a completely ordinary person. It was not that we could understand anything separately by looking at her. Rather, it seemed like there were many such people around us, silently, like ourselves. But as the story progressed, I realised that a lot was changing inside.

The “oil” thing here did not seem to me just about wealth or money. Rather, it was like a test of people’s greed, fear, and decision-making ability. As Sarah slowly got involved in this thing, I kept thinking—does she realise that she is changing?

Some moments of Sarah stuck in my head. Especially when he is alone, silent—without saying anything, a lot is conveyed. There was a tension in his eyes, which felt very real. It was not that he was always strong, but he was not completely broken either. He stood somewhere in the middle—and that was what touched me the most.

I was a little confused about the character of Michael. At first, it seemed like he wanted the best for Sarah. But over time, his behaviour started to change. Sometimes I wanted to trust him, and at other times I felt—no, there is something else inside this man. This hesitation was present throughout my entire film.

I didn’t fully understand Daniel, to be honest. But maybe that is the strength of his character. He always remained a little distant, as if he deliberately didn’t show his whole self. His presence created a suppressed tension, which I could feel.

Seeing Emily felt a little relieved. He wanted to be by Sarah’s side, to understand her. But sometimes there are times when nothing can be done,e even if you are there—this is shown very calmly through her character. Her helplessness is not too dramatic, but it is understandable.

The visuals of the movie stood out to me. There was no attempt to make it beautiful, but everything felt very natural and beautiful. In some scenes, there is complete silence—no dialogue, just the atmosphere—and that silence seems to tell the story.

I will say the same about the music. Not much, but in the right place. Even though there was no music in some scenes, it didn't feel bad. Rather, I felt that this silence was needed.

But yes, everything is not perfect either. In some places, I felt a little slow. Sometimes I felt that the story could have moved a little faster. And it would have been nice to know a little more about some of the characters.

All in all, Sarah's Oil is a movie that stays in my mind even after it ends. Not one that gives a very big message, but leaves some small feelings.

[Stranger Things] Well, it's pretty much as I expected. The animation is pretty good, but the story... If they say it's "underbaked," I'll be complaining a lot. The lore and cohesion of this world were never there because every season was different. The character logic has always been rubbish (which isn't a bad thing, it's a show after all, and some simplifications are necessary, but "the creators of ST went a bit overboard"), but somehow they managed to tie it together so that you can overlook the biggest mistakes. Don't get me wrong, ST is far from a plot mess (if you want to see real crap, I recommend the series Heroes, and the first season was riddled with holes!), but there's no denying that the Duffer brothers had more luck than skill. When the original cast of Star Trek symbolically rode into the sunset at the conclusion of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, it represented one of those rare instances where a franchise perfectly closed one of its most celebrated and foundational chapters. The gesture felt final, dignified, and satisfying. Yet, even the venerable Star Trek could not indefinitely escape the commercial and logistical pressures of television production. Certain iconic characters were bound to return through nostalgic cameos, particularly for a series like Star Trek: The Next Generation, which, with its gruelling schedule of over twenty episodes per season, constantly required fresh narrative fodder. Often, this "new" material was, ironically, the "old." This reckoning arrived less than a year after The Undiscovered Country with the sixth-season episode "Relics," a fascinating example of how to resurrect the past without merely embalming it.

The plot begins conventionally enough: the USS Enterprise-D receives a distress signal from the USS Jenolan, a transport vessel missing for seventy-five years. The crew locates the derelict ship on the surface of a staggering megastructure—a Dyson sphere, an artefact of such immense scale that it encloses an entire star within its hollow interior. The sheer proportions create gravimetric interference, confounding sensors. An away team discovers no signs of life but finds the ship's auxiliary power rerouted to sustain a single transporter pattern, miraculously undegraded after decades. Intrigued, Chief Engineer Geordi La Forge speculates someone might be trapped in the buffer and initiates a risky materialisation. The figure that coalesces on the pad is none other than Captain Montgomery "Scotty" Scott, a living relic from the 23rd century.

Scotty is, understandably, bewildered. He is confronted with the 24th century: new technology, unfamiliar uniforms, and an entirely new Enterprise. He explains he was en route to the Norpin colony for retirement when the Jenolan accidentally discovered the Dyson sphere. A catastrophic crash, induced by the sphere's graviton forces, left only two survivors: Scotty and Ensign Matt Franklin. With supplies dwindling, they placed themselves in the transporter buffer, a desperate stasis hoping for rescue. Only Scotty's pattern endured. This setup efficiently establishes the episode's dual engines: a high-concept sci-fi puzzle (the Dyson sphere) and a profound character study of displacement.

The episode's heart lies in the dynamic between the two chief engineers. Scotty is instantly fascinated by La Forge, and the pair spend considerable time reminiscing about past adventures and comparing technical notes. Yet, beneath the professional camaraderie, a palpable melancholy pervades Scotty. He is a man out of time, acutely aware that all his friends and contemporaries are long dead. Captain Picard, hoping to give the Starfleet legend a purpose, assigns him to assist La Forge aboard the Jenolan. This decision proves fortuitous when the Enterprise-D itself is captured by the sphere's automatic tractor beams and pulled inside, its systems failing as it drifts towards the increasingly unstable central star. The crisis forces La Forge and Scotty into a frantic collaboration on the Jenolan, their combined ingenuity ultimately devising a solution that allows the Enterprise to slip past the sphere's defences and escape. In a poignant coda, Scotty is given a ceremonial send-off, departing the Enterprise-D as a respected colleague once more.

The episode's origin is itself an amalgam. It fused two separate production pitches: one involving the transporter buffer as a means to retrieve characters from the The Original Series era, and another centred on the compelling concept of a Dyson sphere. With Leonard "Bones" McCoy considered too elderly for extensive action, William Shatner's Kirk deemed prohibitively expensive, and Spock canonically on Romulus following the events of Unification, Scotty emerged as the logical choice. James Doohan was reportedly delighted for another opportunity to inhabit his most iconic role. The production team approached the task with evident reverence. Screenwriter Ronald D. Moore—already cementing his status as one of the franchise's most respected authors—and director Alexander Singer were both lifelong fans who strived for authenticity and respect towards the source material.

"Relics" succeeds primarily through a brilliant fusion of ultimate fan service and substantive science fiction. The Dyson sphere, realised through superb (for its time) special effects, provides a genuinely awe-inspiring backdrop. The final escape sequence, with the Enterprise manoeuvring through the sphere's closing hatch, possesses a cinematic grandeur reminiscent of the Millennium Falcon's flight from the Death Star in Return of the Jedi. Yet, the episode's most intelligent choice is Moore's handling of the central relationship. He avoids simple hero-worship by having La Forge and Scotty initially clash. Moore recognised that despite their identical roles, their characters were profoundly different, and that this would inevitably cause professional friction. Their journey from mutual irritation to effective partnership forms a satisfying arc, lending emotional weight to the technological rescue.

The episode leans heavily on James Doohan's performance, which is note-perfect. He captures Scotty's enduring technical brilliance, his wry humour, and the deep-seated loneliness of a man who has slept through history. His chemistry with LeVar Burton is genuine and warm, making their scenes together the episode's highlight. Furthermore, Relics relies more explicitly than most on the established lore of both series. The engineers' "war stories"—references to old TOS and early TNG episodes—provide a rich sense of continuity that the franchise sometimes lacked, rewarding long-term viewers without alienating newcomers.

The most poignant form of fan service is the meticulous recreation of the original USS Enterprise NCC-1701 bridge on the holodeck. In a beautifully quiet scene, Scotty visits this digital memorial. It is a moment of pure, unadulterated nostalgia. Interestingly, the production team originally envisioned this sequence incorporating archival footage of the original cast in their prime, with Scotty interacting with these holographic phantoms. Budgetary constraints forced its abandonment, a concept that would be triumphantly realised four years later in Deep Space Nine's brilliant Trials and Tribble-ations. While one might lament the missed opportunity here, the simpler scene arguably achieves a more elegiac and personal tone.

In critical terms, Relics is not without minor flaws. The Dyson sphere plot, while visually spectacular, serves largely as a generic peril mechanism; its builders and purpose remain entirely unexplored, a tantalising concept somewhat wasted. Some might argue the episode leans too heavily on nostalgia as a crutch. Yet, these are quibbles. The episode works because it uses its nostalgic cornerstone not as an end in itself, but as a lens to examine themes of legacy, obsolescence, and the enduring human (and alien) spirit of ingenuity. It treats Scotty not as a mere museum piece to be displayed, but as a fully realised character whose past informs a crucial present action. In balancing heartfelt character drama with solid sci-fi adventure, Relics demonstrates how to honour a franchise's history without becoming enslaved by it.

At times, while watching the film, I would stop to wonder where the story was taking me. Despite this uncertainty, I was completely absorbed by the images of this film by Argentine filmmaker Laura Casabé. This film is rather unusual due to its blend of genres. On the one hand, it falls within the genre of female transition to adulthood, but with touches of fantasy and horror that lend it a disquieting feeling throughout much of its runtime.

I believe the story already contains these elements from the original work, a short story that is part of one of the books by the writer Mariana Enríquez, belonging to the new wave of Argentine women writers. I am unfamiliar with both the original work and the rest of this author's books, and as for the director, this is the first film of hers that I have seen.

The first thing I want to highlight is that the story is set in the early 2000s, when Argentina was going through one of its worst economic and political crises. I found some of the scenes with frequent power outages in the protagonist's neighborhood quite funny, because they're similar to what I've experienced in my country over the last decade. A total disaster, and needless to say, those responsible for plunging our countries into this chaos are to blame.

Amidst all this chaos, the story focuses on the life of Natalia, a teenager who lives with her grandmother on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. Her grandmother believes in witchcraft and all that stuff about spells, lucky charms, and so on. Natalia has two inseparable friends, Mariela and Josefina. The three of them are in that stage of adolescence where they discover their bodies and desires. That typical sexual awakening of youth, which isn't exclusive to men. Women also feel the urge to have sex, as is the case with these three girls who are crazy about the handsome Diego making love to them.

Everything gets complicated when Diego meets his friend Silvia, an older woman with years of experience, a free spirit, a bit of a hippie, and quite a bit of sexual experience, with whom he starts dating. This is the main conflict. Natalia and her friends are jealous of this woman who wants to steal the object of their most ardent desires. In the midst of all this conflict, witchcraft appears, the fantastical element that practically leads to the horror genre towards the end.

The inherent evil in all of us tends to manifest itself with greater cruelty in young people. In adolescence, we can be impulsive, capricious, and selfish. So forget about likable characters; not even Natalia manages to win the viewer's affection, not even with a few good deeds.

The film's pace is slow, but the director manages to imbue it with a tension and a disturbing atmosphere that keep us attentive to the story and eager to see how it ends. The quarry where Silvia takes them to hang out and have fun will play an important role in the story's outcome.

I thought it was a good Argentine film, interesting, with mostly convincing performances, especially from the female cast. Even if we think our children are saints incapable of hurting anyone, we'll never truly know them.

En ocasiones, mientras veía la película, me detenía a preguntarme adónde me llevaba la historia. A pesar de esa duda, estaba completamente absorto en las imágenes de esta película de la cineasta argentina Laura Casabé. Porque esta película es un tanto extraña por su mezcla de géneros. Por un lado, se enmarca dentro del género de la transición a la adultez femenina, pero con toques de fantasía y terror que le dan una sensación inquietante a lo largo de gran parte del metraje.

Creo que la historia ya contiene esos elementos de la obra original, un cuento que forma parte de uno de los libros de la escritora Mariana Enríquez, perteneciente a la nueva ola de escritoras argentinas. Desconozco tanto la obra original como el resto de los libros de esta autora, y en cuanto a la directora, esta es la primera película suya que veo.

Lo primero que quiero destacar es que la historia se sitúa a principios de la década de 2000, cuando Argentina atravesaba una de sus peores crisis económicas y políticas. Me parecieron bastante graciosas algunas escenas con frecuentes apagones en el barrio de la protagonista, porque se parecen a lo que he vivido en mi país durante la última década. Un desastre total, y ni que decir tiene que los desgraciados responsables de hundir a nuestros países en este caos son los culpables.

En medio de todo este caos, la historia se centra en la vida de Natalia, una adolescente que vive con su abuela en las afueras de Buenos Aires. Su abuela cree en la brujería y en todo eso de hechizos, amuletos de la suerte, etc. Natalia tiene dos amigas inseparables, Mariela y Josefina. Las tres están en esa etapa de la juventud en la que descubren sus cuerpos y deseos. Ese despertar sexual típico de la juventud, que no es exclusivo de los hombres. Las mujeres también sienten el impulso de tener sexo, como les ocurre a estas tres chicas que están locas por el guapo Diego haciéndoles el amor.

Todo se complica cuando Diego conoce a su amiga Silvia, una mujer mayor con años de experiencia, espíritu libre, un tanto hippie y con bastante experiencia sexual, con quien empieza a salir. Este es el conflicto principal. Natalia y sus amigas están celosas de esta mujer que quiere arrebatarles el objeto de sus más ardientes deseos. En medio de todo este conflicto, aparece la brujería, el elemento fantástico que prácticamente desemboca en el género de terror hacia el final.

La maldad inherente a todos nosotros suele manifestarse con mayor crueldad en los jóvenes. En la adolescencia, podemos ser impulsivos, caprichosos y egoístas. Así que olvídese de personajes agradables; ni siquiera Natalia logra ganarse el afecto del espectador, ni siquiera con unas pocas buenas acciones.

El ritmo de la película es lento, pero el director consigue dotarlo de una tensión y una atmósfera inquietante que nos mantienen atentos a la historia y ansiosos por ver cómo termina. La cantera donde Silvia los lleva a pasar el rato y divertirse tendrá un papel importante en el desenlace de la historia.

Me pareció una buena película argentina, interesante, con actuaciones en su mayoría convincentes, especialmente las del elenco femenino. Aunque creamos que nuestros hijos son unos santos incapaces de hacerle daño a nadie, nunca los conoceremos del todo.

Tense And Unsettling. Apex (2026) || Movie Review

Children are often warned not to take sweets from strangers because it can lead to unpleasant experiences. If only adults followed this same rule, things might not have gone so badly for Sasha in this recent release, Apex (2026).

I see Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton as the leads in this movie and that's enough to make me watch. It turns out to be a survival thriller, the kind that makes me uneasy because of the dangers depicted. The focus is on hikers, mountaineers and kayakers which deepens my admiration for them more.

Apex is an American survival thriller directed by Baltasar Kormákur based on Jeremy Robbins’ screenplay. It stars Charlize Theron, Taron Egerton, Eric Bana, Matt Whelan and other supporting actors. The opening scene shows us Sasha (Charlize Theron) and her husband, Tommy (Eric Bana) waking up in a tent fixed to the side of a rocky mountain. It's clear they are an outdoorsy couple who love to climb and also take risks.

They dress up and continue to climb when the weather turns hazy. In their attempt to return to their tent, an avalanche drops on Tommy rendering him unconscious. His weight pulls Sasha down via their joint harness, risking their lives. She holds on for a while only to let him go so they don't both fall to their death.

Five months later, grieving Sasha doesn't go mountain climbing but goes kayaking at Wandarra National Park. The park ranger immediately warns that people get lost in the forest and don't return. While she buys things at a local store, some unfriendly men try to harass her but she ignores them. Then Ben (Taron Egerton), one the locals, helps point out the “easy path” on her map. Sasha takes his word for it and drives her car to the place.

When she settles in her tent for the night, she wakes up to find her bag with the supplies gone. She walks around and see another tent—its Ben. He's nice and cooks her breakfast before revealing that he took her bag. Sasha stands up, shocked. Ben pulls out a crossbow and a stereo warning that after the song plays out, he'll come for her. This ‘nice’ stranger quickly becomes a psychopath playing a dangerous cat and mouse game with Sasha. Who is Ben? Can Sasha escape her hunter?

My Review And Rating

Despite the well-built tension, suspense and gory scenes in this movie, I still loved it. The plot is unexpected and gripping—a stranger recommends a safe path in a forest like giving out candy, only to turn out a predator hunting people who follow the trail. The first scene introduces the couple and the remaining throw viewers into the maniac mind and activities of the sadistic hunter.

It's Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton's acting that makes this movie stand out. Theron is one of my favourite actresses simply because she doesn't do small roles but memorable and energetic ones. I'm not sure if a stunt double was used but she plays the role of a grieving and scared prey perfectly in this movie. Her resolve to not be a victim is cool.

The way she climbs the mountains, runs through the thick forest, kayaks through the rushing water and drops through waterfalls is admirable. I wish she didn't listen to Ben's advice to take the haunted trail but that wouldn't be realistic. In hindsight, it's troubling that the real danger isn't the wild animals but a person.

Egerton on the other hand convinces me of his character’s mania with the crazy screams and laughs, the animal sounds and frightening facial expressions. His pairing with Theron really worked. Gory scenes are expected in this kind of movie but they still shocked me.

The chase scenes might feel repetitive at some point, still I like that the director makes us see the efforts it takes to scale mountainous heights. You not only need a healthy body and stamina but also good instincts and wisdom. Charlize's character displayed all these and the camera stays on her through every climb, grunts, screams, injuries as she negotiates the crevices until she gets to the peak.

The cinematography is good. Director Kormákur gives us clear visuals that reflect a deep respect for nature with beautiful shots of the forest, waterfalls and vast landscapes.

Rating this movie, I'd give it 7 stars out of 10. It's even-paced and thrilling. The acting and tension keep me on the edge of my seat all through.

Hello, Movies & TV friends! I’m happy to be back in this community of film and series lovers. I recently finished watching the second season of The Pitt, the famous medical drama that has been very well-received by audiences. It undoubtedly has everything to hook you, even if medical procedurals aren't usually your favorite genre. I actually started watching it because my sister recommended it, and I’m so glad I did. What I enjoy most is seeing how, beyond their passion for medicine and helping others, the characters show their most human side—and that is perhaps what makes The Pitt one of the best medical series of recent times.

The second season kicks off with the return of Noah Wyle as Dr. Robby. After the far-from-simple ordeal he faced months ago in the first season, moving from routine cases to the most chaotic and complicated ones, we see that while he is incredibly hardworking, he also overextends himself—a habit that takes its toll on him throughout both seasons. We see him in high-tension moments again, especially with the arrival of Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi, who takes charge of the unit alongside Robby. Their differing perspectives lead to friction, showing moments where both can be quite stubborn and harsh while trying to maintain professionalism.

Dr. Langdon is also back following his issues with medication theft and the subsequent hiatus. Most of the staff welcomes him back as if nothing happened because they are unaware of the truth; Dr. Robby essentially covered for him so he could seek the necessary help and eventually return. However, Langdon's return causes further friction with Dr. Santos, who suspected him from the start. Between her suspicions and the pressure Langdon previously put on her, the tension is palpable. Santos wants the truth to come out, making things complicated for both Robby and Langdon.

Meanwhile, Santos spends a lot of time behind a computer screen filing patient records—a task imposed by the new Dr. Al-Hashimi. The two have several clashes; both possess strong personalities and personal worries that only add to the drama and stress within the hospital. We also see more of Whitaker, who struggled in the first season due to his inexperience. This season, he is more confident and even helps the newcomers. He also tries to distance himself from his personal life, which has become a topic of discussion between Santos and Dr. Robby due to him taking on responsibilities that aren't his.

Will we see more drama? Absolutely. That’s the heart of this series, which consists of 15 episodes, each 50 minutes long. We also see new faces, including a nurse gaining experience through a very difficult sexual assault case. She is assisted by Dana, who handles these cases. It’s a heavy storyline that pushes the characters to the brink of desperation and sadness, leading to several confrontations with Dr. Robby. The best part of this season is the personal depth. We don't just see the characters grow as professionals; we see them face their greatest fears. The show explores mental health, not just for Dr. Robby—who is clearly stressed and on the edge—but for the staff in general. We also follow Dr. Mel, one of my favorite characters, as she faces a legal complaint against her and deals with personal growth involving her sister, leading to surprises about things she never knew.

In general, the main cast remains for the second season, with the exception of Dr. Heather Collins, who does not return (though she is mentioned as being happy moving on with her life). We also see Dr. Jack Abbot, McKay, Samira, Javadi, Yolanda García, Mateo, and new characters like nurse Emma Nolan and resident James Ogilvie. I enjoyed this season even more than the first. I feel there is still so much more to tell about these characters and the clinical stories at Pittsburgh Hospital. I hope you get a chance to watch it! Hola amigos de Movies & Tv, me siento contenta de estar nuevamente por esta comunidad de amantes del cine y las series. Hace poco termine de ver la segunda temporada de The Pitt, la famosa serie de médicos que se encuentra muy bien recibida por la audiencia y que indudablemente tiene todo para engancharte aunque tú género favorito no sean los casos de medicina. Realmente está serie me gustó porque mi hermana me la recomendó y comencé a verla, la parte que más disfruto es ver cómo todos tienen además de su pasión por la medicina y el trabajo hacia otros, pueden llegar a mostrar su lado más humano y eso tal vez es lo que hace que The Pitt sea una de las mejores series de médicos en estos tiempos.

La segunda temporada comienza con el regreso de Noah Wyle cómo el Dr. Robby, luego de todo el proceso para nada sencillo que vivió meses atrás —en la primera temporada—, pasando de ver desde casos sencillos hasta los más locos y complicados, se llegó a mostrar que puede ser una persona muy trabajadora pero también que se exigía de más y que esto le cobra factura durante la primera y también la segunda temporada. Volvemos a verlo en momentos de tensión sobre todo por la llegada de la Dra. Baran Al-Hashimi quien se va a encargar del lugar junto con la ayuda de Robby, pero hay diferencias entre ambos y esto hará que la serie vaya mostrando entre tensión y momentos en los que ambos podrían ser bastante tercos y muy duros al tratar de ser profesionales pero con distintos puntos de vista de por medio.

Tenemos de regreso al Dr. Langdon quien llega después de su problema con el robo de medicamentos y su hiatus debido a esta grave situación. Todos lo reciben como si nada pero es porque la mayoría no sabe lo que realmente ocurrió con él, el Dr. Robby realmente lo que hizo fue encubrir de cierta manera lo sucedido para que él pudiera buscar la ayuda necesaria y regresar si era posible. Pero el regreso de Langdon trae más disgustos con la Dra. Santos, quien desde un principio sospecho de él y de su forma de robar medicamentos, además de los problemas que ya existían entre ellos debido a la presión que ponía Langdon sobre Santos. Su regreso hace que todo se sienta en tensión y que las cosas se compliquen tanto para Robby como para Langdon porque de alguna manera Santos quiere que se sepa la verdad de lo sucedido.

Sin embargo, Santos tendrá mucho tiempo detrás de las computadoras anotando los historiales de los pacientes debido a un trabajo impuesto por la nueva Dra. Al-Hashimi. Ambas tienen varios desencuentros y realmente no se llevan muy bien, debido a que las dos tienen también un carácter fuerte y sus propias preocupaciones personales que no hacen más que agregarle drama y estrés mientras están en el hospital. ¿Veremos más drama? Pues si, de esto va toda la serie que cuenta igualmente con 15 episodios de 50 minutos de duración. Además de que veremos caras nuevas, entre ellas una enfermera que tendrá que empezar a ganar experiencia en el área con un caso nada sencillo sobre un abuso sexual y todas las medidas y exámenes que se deben realizar para formalizar una denuncia contra el agresor o agresora. En esto la ayudará Dana quien se encarga de estos casos, donde veremos qué será bastante fuerte para observar este tipo de casos y la llevarán al extremo de la desesperación y tristeza. Se exigirá mucho de manera que el Dr. Robby también tendrá unas cuantas confrontaciones con ella.

Lo mejor de esta temporada es que veremos de forma más personal a los personajes, no solo los verán crecer como profesionales sino también enfrentarse a sus mayores temores y a situaciones donde no sabrán cómo reaccionar y actuar. Veremos más el lado humano y vulnerable, se habla sobre la salud mental no solo del Dr. Robby quien se muestra muy estresado y al borde de sus propias emociones, también el personal en general mostrará un lado más emotivo. Veremos a la Dra. Mel quien es uno de mis personajes favoritos, enfrenta también un caso de denuncia hacia ella y el crecimiento personal de su única hermana a quien cuida y cree conocer pero se llevará algunas sorpresas con respecto a temas de los cuales no estaba enterada.

En general todos los personajes se mantienen durante la segunda temporada exceptuando a la Dra. Heather Collins quien no regresa para esta temporada, pero la mencionan durante la misma y dicen que se encuentra feliz rehaciendo su vida. Veremos también al Dr. Jack Abbot, McKay, Samira, Javadi, Yolanda García, Mateo y personajes nuevos como la enfermera Emma Nolan y el residente James Ogilvie. Es una temporada que disfrute incluso más que la anterior y siento que queda mucho más que contar sobre los personajes, más historias clínicas que conocer y más situaciones que se viven en un área como la del Hospital de Pittsburgh. Film Review: Captain Marvel (2019)

Although the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been one of the rare examples where Hollywood tries to change the paradigm of A‑production and take risks previously unimaginable, 2019 showed that Marvel Studios has no intention of reinventing the wheel. The strategy for preparing the grand finale of the series was taken from the previous year. Just as in 2018 the film Black Panther served as a kind of “artillery preparation” for the main summer blockbuster – Avengers: Infinity War – introducing a new member of the elite superhero team, so in 2019 the same kind of film served for Avengers: Endgame, introducing a new superhero named Captain Marvel. In both cases, the new superhero belonged to what Hollywood’s salon leftists like to call an “oppressed minority” – a black man and a woman respectively. And in both cases, the new film thereby acquired political connotations and extra publicity related to alleged controversies. In the latter case, however, this was raised to a higher level, thanks to the lead actress Brie Larson, an Oscar winner for Room, who, while promoting the film, stated that it was a film primarily dedicated to women, ethnic, racial and other minorities, which white heterosexual men should not watch, and if they do, they have no right to comment or criticise. This was followed by the predictable reaction of geeks who took it as a gauntlet thrown in their face, laeding toi massive trolling on social media and the appropriate outrage from “enlightened” and “woke” moral guardians who rushed to the aid of poor Brie Larson and the billion‑dollar franchise she represents. Such publicity was reflected in predictably successful box‑office returns and the expected “hype” for Marvel’s Endgame.

The title character, played by Larson, is Vers, a member of Starforce, the elite formation of the Kree Empire, who is plagued by nightmares about a mysterious woman. Her superior and mentor Yon‑Rogg (Jude Law) advises her to show as little emotion as possible. This is very important because the Kree are in a long war with the Skrulls, a race that can shapeshift, i.e. take on the appearance and short‑term memories of their enemies. In one such skirmish, Vers is captured and brought before Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), the Skrull leader, but she manages to escape and ends up in Los Angeles in 1995. Her attempts to contact her superiors attract the attention of the secret government organisation S.H.I.E.L.D., whose agent Nick Fury (Jackson) arrests her, but soon begins to cooperate with her to help her not only escape the Skrulls but also solve the mystery of her own origins. Her memories, it turns out, are connected to Earth, specifically a secret air‑force base where a certain Dr Wendy Lawson (Annette Benning) worked on Project Pegasus, an experimental engine that achieves light speed. Vers must discover how she is connected to that project, and she might be helped by Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch), a black air‑force officer who ultimately turns out to have been her colleague and best friend.

The screenwriters of Captain Marvel faced a similar problem to the authors of other films in the series that introduce a new main hero, and in this case an even bigger one, given that Captain Marvel (who in the original comic‑book incarnations was male) is not in the top tier of Marvel heroes and that most of the general public is unfamiliar with him. This meant they had to deliver some kind of “origin story”, but not at the expense of the main action and plot. Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck and Geneva Robertson‑Dworet found a very good solution for this – the action begins in medias res, but the main heroine is afflicted with amnesia, meaning she must discover who she is, what she is, what superpowers she has, how she acquired them and what she should actually use them for, based only on visions, clues and flashbacks. Thus, at least in the first half, a fast pace is maintained and those interested in action get to see several quite interesting scenes. The very beginning is also very good, above all the way the world of the Kree is depicted, in a manner similar to but significantly different from many other super‑technological alien utopias in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The decision to set the action in 1995 also proved good, as it created an opportunity to show another “origin story” – namely how the Avengers began. This was a good opportunity to showcase modern Hollywood’s digital de‑ageing technology, i.e. an opportunity for Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg to play young agents Fury and Coulson.

The setting of the action in the past was also seen as an opportunity to serve the audience a bit of nostalgia for the 1990s, but this was overdone, given that many pop songs from that era play at moments when their connection to the on‑screen events is rather questionable. Many will see this as an irritating “fan service” for a demographic group that is unlikely to have rushed to the cinemas, and it’s hard to imagine that nostalgia for the 1990s would be felt among inhabitants of latitudes and longitudes where there was far less prosperity and peace than in Clinton’s America. The biggest problem for the film, however, is the title heroine, who is rather poorly written and conceived. Although the flashbacks deliver the presumed ultra‑feminist content, i.e. suggest that from her earliest years she had to fight against sexist prejudices, all that struggle actually meant nothing, given the scene that clearly shows she acquired her superpowers primarily through an extraordinarily lucky and not very plausible set of circumstances, namely by being in the best/worst place at the moment of an explosion. And after that, Captain Marvel acquired not just superpowers but hyper‑powers that are superior to everything Thor, Iron Man and the rest of the gang have, and she masters them far more quickly and successfully. Because of this, the final battle in which she saves Earth from yet another potential apocalypse induces yawns, but also creates another problem for the screenwriters of Endgame. They must, namely, come up with some really good reason why she wasn’t with the rest of the Avengers team fighting Thanos, i.e. why Infinity War didn’t end differently and was significantly shorter. In the case of Captain Marvel, answers to that question are not provided, and the irritating “retroactive continuity” leaves a bad impression.

With such a poorly written and conceived character, even Oscar‑winner Larson cannot do much, and her performance is in the deep shadow of her perhaps less hyped but more effective colleagues. This applies above all to Jackson, who clearly enjoys the situation where Fury is finally one of the more important characters, but also to Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn, who excels in the role of Talos even under tons of make‑up and CGI. The rest of the cast is nothing special, including Jude Law in yet another routine and forgettable performance. Captain Marvel achieved commercial success, but owes it primarily to being part of the larger Marvel universe. By itself, it represents a zany but uninspired space opera akin to Jupiter Ascending - a clear indicator that even a series like Marvel’s will sooner or later run out of creative resources. RATING: 4/10 (+)
