Konnichiwa Hivers! It's been almost a week since I last watched an anime. Many schoolwork and unexpected responsibilities came up, so unfortunately I haven't watched any anime videos for days. I was really drained at the end of the week, plus my emotions have been pretty messed up because I wrote a script for our play, and it's a tragic one. I really don't want how it ended, but I have no choice because I'm not the concept writer or the director. They say it's more appealing to end that way, so as a dialogue writer, I have to abide by their story line. By the end of the process, I was left with an empty feeling and almost swollen eyes.

Enough with my rants—since Friday nights were pretty much my free night (my only free night—perhaps), I decided to binge-watch an anime to lighten up my mood. And this time it's all about a romcom anime—but there's a catch—it's harem—reverse harem to be exact! My red flag radar suddenly perked up when I discovered that it has harem thingy involved. I'm not really fond of such tropes, so as much as possible I avoid them. However, my curiosity got ahead of me, so I downloaded all the episodes, and indeed, it's something else! So now join me as we enter the life of our non-heroine FL in her ever-colorful journey towards finding romance in Romantic ~~Thriller~~ Killer.

About the Anime:

Romantic Killer is a shounen anime that aired on October 27, 2022. It was produced by Shueisha and Netflix and was animated by domerica. Its genres are comedy and romance with a little bit of supernatural, while its main themes are parody and reverse harem. All in all, it has 12 episodes, and it's an adaptation of the manga written and illustrated by Wataru Momose.

After she started playing a poorly animated otome game, Anzu Hoshino unknowingly fell into a trap she couldn't escape. She had been living her best with only three things she desires in life—videogames, chocolates, and ultimately her beloved cat, Momohiki. With her desires fulfilled, Anzu never once seeked out other things than them, and that includes a romance in her life. However, the trap that she had fallen into forced her to give up the current way of life she's living.

Apparently she had been chosen as the first test subject of a supernatural company. They aim to revitalize the dwindling population of Japan through helping people find romance and secure a happy ending with their love interest. Since her three desires prevented her from seeing the need for romance in her life before, Riri–the wizard confiscated all of them. Despite being deprived of her great desires, Anzu was determined to not give in to any potential romance that may come in her life. She is confident that no mortal man could ever possibly live up to the high standards she has built by playing video games for years. If there's no romance that will flourish, she thought that the pesky wizard would leave her alone.

Depriving her of her desires just made her more desperate to resist any ikemen that will show up in her life. But the wizard was no easy opponent, for it had already planned out how to make her life like the ones she'd seen when she played otome game. A series of unlucky events and romantic cliches were plotted by Riri to make her meet her first love interest—an ikemen—and he's an extremely attractive one! Tsukasa Kazuki is sure one of the most handsome boys from her school, but her rage still runs high. She is really determined to resist any ikemen charms that will come on her way.

However, Tsukasa-kun is just the first one, and there are still more love interests that Riri plans to bring into her life. But an anti-heroine will always be an anti-heroine. Can she really resist the charms of those ikemen? Or will the wizard triumph in transforming her once romance-devoid life into a fully fledged romantic one?

This is definitely the first harem anime that I really like. The plot was like it's FL, for they're both unusual. Although it has romance in its genre, the comedy is definitely more dominant in this anime. It really made me laugh, and it's the first time I encounter a FL who's not annoying. I know that lately there's a surge of non-heroine FLs, but I think way back in 2022 it isn't that famous yet (I guess). Also, I like her love interests because they're not like the usual showy and often push-over ones. Of 'course there are the usual romantic cliches, but unlike the cringy ones that I've watched before, I really find them entertaining because they somehow incorporated comedy and parody in those cliche scenes.

Like I've said, it isn't like the usual reverse harem because I never felt much tension on its romance part. Based on the reverse harem anime I've seen before, the FL usually undergoes grueling decision-making where she needs to decide to choose a ML over another. The love rivalries were usually not friendly, and the story focuses more on the FL struggles in choosing her ML, but that is not really the case in this anime. The FL, in the first place, doesn't want any romance in her life. She may be deprived of romance, but she never felt deprived at all. I'm really glad that it tackled some topics that were often overlooked in our patriarchal society. I don't want to share further about what it is because I'll really end up spoiling the main part of the anime.

Further, the romance was really wholesome because it doesn't only focus on the sexual tension that the characters felt; it also explored the part that's often overshadowed in romance anime—and it's the friendship part. I'm glad that the FL is a friend first of her love interest. I'm not really fond of toxic love stories where FLs were treated poorly by their love interests. My blood boils for those girls who can't defend themselves from dominant MLs. So I'm really happy that their romance is wholesome!

As for its art style, it isn't that unique, but it's definitely neat and decent. Most of the characters were cute, and what I like the most is how dynamic they portrayed the FL's facial expressions. Her ridiculous face did really enhance the comedic impact of the parodies and gags. Also, her buff figure was something that I can't really forget because it's really funny whenever she's in that form. On the other hand, its animation is surprisingly decent and smooth. Of 'course there's the usual overdramatic visuals like their poses and effects, but I think that's just usual in anime comedy.

I don't have qualms for the soundtrack because I think it just suited the anime. The opening song was really like the opening of a rom-com anime with its ever-light-tuned song that emanates wholesome romance vibes. It's kinda not my type in songs, so I'm really guilty that I skip it most of the time, but the ending was another story. It's catchy beat was something that hard to miss. Hearing a character from the anime singing made me recall the singing Kon from Bleach (ahahahha). Riri singing the ending song made it hard for me to skip it because it's definitely unlike the usual melancholic anime endings.

I really like how this anime turned out. Despite my dislike for anything that involves harem, it really proves to me that not all harem are horrible. Overall, my personal rating for this anime is 9/10. Even though I liked how it ended, I felt that something was amiss. I know it's supposed to be a romance anime, so I kinda expected more thrilling romantic scenes. Anyways, I really loved how likeable the FL is; she's definitely my main reason why I decided to watch this anime. So if you're up for an unusual romcom anime with a headstrong FL and interesting ikemen as her love interests—te-hee-hee~ you're in luck because Romantic Killer is definitely a must-watch! Sinopsis: Anzu Hoshino es una chica escolar, que ha pasado de conocer el romance, enfocada a sus 3 vicios los videojuegos, los chocolates y su gato mascota; sin embargo, su rutina se verá afectada, cuando al parecer un ser mágico llamado Riri le informa que está seleccionada para un experimento forzado, donde se verá obligada a alejarse de sus vicios y tener varios encuentros con algunos “ikemen”, chicos guapos de su edad. Esto le cambiará su día a día.

Synopsis: Anzu Hoshino is a school girl, who has gone from knowing romance, focused on her 3 vices video games, chocolates and her pet cat; however, her routine will be affected, when apparently a magical being named Riri informs her that she is selected for a forced experiment, where she will be forced to move away from her vices and have several encounters with some "ikemen", cute boys her age. This will change her day to day life.

La trama que de alguna manera me recuerda a un isekai, aunque no te trasladan a otro mundo, va de cómo la protagonista se adapta a su nueva realidad y cómo enfrenta tener varios posibles pretendientes de un momento a otro; a su vez, intenta mostrar el pasado de algunos personajes, y como la protagonista reacciona a algunos hechos.

The plot, which somehow reminds me of an isekai, although it doesn't move you to another world, is about how the protagonist adapts to her new reality and how she faces having several possible suitors from one moment to another; at the same time, it tries to show the past of some characters, and how the protagonist reacts to some events.

Si bien es bastante entretenido de ver en un comienzo ya que el carácter de la protagonista funciona, poco a poco comienza a caer en ciertos tópicos; así como, un incoherente desarrollo de la protagonista. Por otro lado, hay mucha comedia, y por ese apartado tendrás aseguradas varias risas. La serie es corta y supongo una segunda temporada, así que el cierre bastante abierto, no acaba siendo tan malo.

Although it is quite entertaining to watch at the beginning since the character of the protagonist works, little by little it starts to fall into certain clichés; as well as, an incoherent development of the protagonist. On the other hand, there is a lot of comedy, and for that section you will be assured of several laughs. The series is short and I assume a second season, so the rather open ending is not too bad.

El opening y ending son buenos, especialmente el ending que acaba siendo divertido de ver. La animación no es espectacular, hay demasiados planos cercanos y eso acaba siendo raro. Los demás aspectos técnicos cumplen.

The opening and ending are good, especially the ending that ends up being fun to watch. The animation is not spectacular, there are too many close shots and that ends up being weird. The other technical aspects are good.

En general, esta serie me ha gustado, pero creo que si bien al comienzo me engancho, mientras más pasan los capítulos acaba cayendo en situaciones conocidas, y que poco sorprenden. Aun así, espero ver una segunda temporada, en donde espero mejoren sus puntos débiles.

In general, I liked this series, but I think that even though I was hooked at the beginning, the more the chapters go by, the more it ends up falling into familiar situations, which are not very surprising. Even so, I hope to see a second season, where I hope they improve its weak points.

I'm cold, sleepy, blurry-eyed, plus I'm listening to Joji's latest album, so I don't know how this review is going to end. I started watching this series because yes, it has a short time of being released on Netflix and I wanted to watch something light and relaxing, I expected to see something completely generic that would melt my brain and force me to stop watching it because I was hating it, but no, quite the opposite, it relaxed me, entertained me, but above all it made me laugh like you have no idea, I laughed during the 12 chapters, although in the last chapters I ended up crying, but that's something I'll tell you later.

What is this thing about? Well it's simple, we have Hanzu, a teenager who is not interested in romance at all, unless it's in video games, and it's precisely because of a video game that ends up in her worst nightmare, because a magical being named Riri will be in charge of her life, with only one final motive: to make Hanzu fall in love with some ikemen, which are handsome men, in her case adolescent because it is not a pedophile series, in short, Hanzo's life became from one day to another a copy of the many games with which she usually entertains herself, and she will do everything possible not to fall in love with anyone, because her three passions were taken away from her world, and there is nothing that angers her more than not being able to play video games, not eating chocolate, or not being able to hug and give kisses to Momohiki, her cat (I add that I had to look up the name of the cat because I named it Michimumu because I couldn't remember it HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA).

Tengo frío, sueño, la vista borrosa, además de que estoy escuchando el último album de Joji, así que no sé cómo va a terminar esta reseña. Yo comencé a ver esta serie porque sí, tiene poco tiempo de haberse estrenado en Netflix y quería ver algo ligero y que me relajara, esperaba ver algo completamente genérico que me derritiera el cerebreo y me obligara a dejar de verla porque la estaba odiando, pero no, todo lo contrario, me relajó, me entretuvo, pero sobretodo me hizo reír como no tienen idea, me reí durante los 12 capítulos, aunque en los últimos capítulos terminé llorando, pero esa es algo que les contaré más adelante.

¿De qué trata esta cosa? Pues es sencillo, tenemos a Hanzu, una adolescente que no le interesa en absoluto el romance, a menos que sea en videojuegos, y es justamente que a causa de un videojuego que termina en su peor pesadilla, pues un ser mágico llamado Riri estará a cargo de su vida, con un solo motivo final: hacer que Hanzu se enamore de algún ikemen, que son hombres guapos, en su caso adolesscentes porque no es una serie pedófila, en fin, la vida de Hanzo se convirtió de un día para otro en una copia de los muchos juegos con los que se suele entretener, y ella hará todo lo posible por no enamorarse de nadie, pues sus tres pasiones fueron arrebatadas de su mundo, y no hay nada que la enfurezca más que no poder jugar videojuegos, no comer chocolate, o no poder abrazar y darle besos a Momohiki, su gato (agrego que tuve que busar el nombre del gato porque le puse Michimumu al no acordarme JAJAJAJAJAJAJAJ).

I mean, they take away my video games, chocolate and cats and I make the world burn no matter what, so I don't judge Hanzu at all for wanting to ruin all of Riri's plans, besides the fact that they tricked her, that is, it was through a video game that they asked her consent, when she had absolutely no idea what she was agreeing to be a part of. Another weird thing about the series is that Riri is part of a group that is meant to try to solve Japan's low birth rate, so that can be misunderstood, since it is a series where teenagers are the main characters, but it is something that becomes much less important, because its purpose is to help teenagers who have no love interest or who are not interested in romance, which is the case of Hanzu, and although it can affirm stereotypes and prejudices, it loses any bad sense or misinterpretation that can be given to it in the course of the series, besides, it is a parody, it is a satire, things are done that way with an intention, so wanting to give a more serious sense to what we see is forcing the situation.

O sea, a mí me quitan a los videojuegos, el chocolate y los gatos y hago arder al mundo sin importar qué, así que no juzgo en absoluto a Hanzu por querer arruinar todos los planes de Riri, además de que la engañaron, o sea, fue a través de un videojuego que le pidieron su consentimiento, cuando ella no tenía idea en absoluto de a qué estaba aceptando ser partícipe. Otra de las cosas raras de la serie es que Riri forma parte de un grupo está destinado a tratar de solventar la poca natalidad de Japón, así que eso puede llegar a malinterpretarse, puesto que es una serie donde los adolescentes son los protagonistas, pero es algo que llega a pasar a un plano mucho menos importante, porque su finalidad es ayudar a las adolescentes que no tienen ningún interés amoroso o que no les interesa el romance, que es el caso de Hanzu, y si bien puede hacer que se afirmen estereotipos y prejuicios, llega a perder todo mal sentido o mala interpretación que se le pueda daro con el transcurso de la serie, además, es una parodia, es una sátira, las cosas se hacen así con una intención, así que querer darle un sentido más serio a lo que vemos es forzar la situación.

Hanzu, our protagonist, is a person made and right, she does not need any tragedy to have a character development that leads her to be a better or worse version of herself, not at all, it is the rest of the characters who need and have those character developments, since they not only allow us to know them better, but also reaffirm Hanzu's personality and allow her to demonstrate the good values she has, There is nothing that makes her change or prevents her from doing what she thinks is right, and she almost always gets it right, so it is thankful that she is so stubborn and intense, because otherwise the series would be too boring and would lose its sense, because Hanzu is the anti-heroine, who fights against what the world wants for her, so someone complacent and docile goes against all logic and would ruin the raison d'être of the series.

As I told you at the beginning, I laughed during the whole series, but the last chapters made me cry a little, and it becomes too dark from one moment to another, it's horrible, it goes from being a comedy anime and becomes a dramatic anime murderer happiness heartbreaker, it's horrible, and the truth is I don't know if it was necessary to put this dark plot at the end, but after suffering a lot I don't mind at all, I enjoyed the way things ended, so I'm not complaining.

Hanzu, nuestra protagonista, es una persona hecha y derecha, no necesita de ninguna trajedia para que tenga un desarrollo de personaje que la lleve a ser una mejor o peor versión de sí misma, para nada, son el resto de los personajes quienes necesitan y tienen esos desarrollos de personaje, puesto que no solo nos permiten conocerlos mejor, si no que reafirman la personalidad de Hanzu y le permiten demostrar los buenos valores que tiene, que además están afianzados con cemento en su ser, no hay nada que la haga cambiar o que evite que haga lo que cree que es correcto, y casi siempre acierta, así se agradee que sea tan terca e intensa, porque si no fuera así la serie aburriría demasiado y perdería el sentido, pues Hanzu es la antiheroína, quien pelea contra lo que el mundo quiere para ella, así que alguien complaciente y dócil va en contra toda lógica y arruinaría la razón de ser de la serie.

Como les dije al principio, me reí durante toda la serie, pero los últimos capítulos me hicieron llorar un poco, y es que se vuelve demasiado dark de un momento a otro, es horrible, pasa de ser un anime de comedia y se convierte en un anime dramático asesina felicidad rompe corazones, es horrible, y la verdad no sé si era necesario que metieran es trama oscura al final, pero después de sufrir mucho no me importa en absoluto, disfruté la forma en que terminaron las cosas, así que no me quejo.

The trailer is completely faithful, it doesn't premete things that aren't, plus it shows fragments of all the fights that Hansu and Riri have, you don't know how many times I laughed while watching Hanzu and Riri turn into Jojos while insulting each other and fighting, it's too incredible, you can't miss it at all. I already had an allergy for the cat, so I'm glad I'm finishing, bye.

La serie es muy relajada, no hay mucho que esperar de ella, así que se puede disfrutar sin la presión de esperar grandes cosas de la serie, verla sin expectativas es lo mejor que se puede hacer, porque es una ridiculez tener expectativa de esto, y no sabía dónde decir esto, pero ha llegado el momento, creo que solo anime es que yo me atrevería a ver una comedia romántica, aunque esta es una comedia antiromance, y cro que eso es lo que la hizo tan buena para mí.

El trailer es completamente fiel, no premete cosas que no son, además de que muestra fragmentos de todas las peleas que tienen Hansu y Riri, no saben la cantidad de veces que me reí mientras veía a Hanzu y Riri convertirse en Jojos mientras se insultaban y peleaban, demasiado increíble, no tiene pérdida alguna. Ya me caba de dar alergia por el gato, así que me alegro de estar terminando, chao.
