The only thing I knew about Strange Darling was that it had received quite a bit of coverage in specialized media last year. I always avoid spoilers, and it wasn't until I finally saw it that I could say I agreed with most of the critics and viewers who had given it positive reviews, because I loved it.

It has a frenetic opening, and from that moment on, it completely captivated me. The first thing I noticed was its aesthetic, which is very reminiscent of 1970s horror thrillers. A brilliant choice; just seeing that first sequence brought a smile to my face because it reminded me of a bunch of movies I used to watch when I rented VHS tapes at the video store.

Since its cinematography is so striking, I started researching who the director of photography was, and I was in for a big surprise. The actor Giovanni Ribisi was responsible for capturing that aesthetic. I was completely unaware that this actor also worked as a director of photography. Perhaps his name doesn't ring a bell, but if you look him up, you'll know who I'm talking about, as he has an extensive filmography, including James Cameron's Avatar films.

I'm not going to tell you much about the story, because the key to enjoying the film is knowing as little as possible about it, or letting yourself be guided by what you see in the trailer, which I like because it plays with mystery. I'll just say that a woman flees an apparent serial killer terrorizing a region of the United States and must fight for her life.

The story is told in chapters, but the chronological order is omitted, which gives the narrative a bit more dynamism and, of course, also helps reveal the plot twists and surprises. It uses the genre's clichés, and the non-linear narrative isn't exactly original either, but the film doesn't pretend to be anything more. The good thing is that this combination and the director's style work.

This is the second film by filmmaker J.T. Mollner. The first was Outlaws and Angels, which I haven't seen yet. I'm already looking for it, because I'm sure his style is already evident in it, and the story must have some good plot twists. It's a Western, but I have to find out where it's available in my country. Before these two films, the filmmaker had only made short films.

The director is already working on a new project, which will feature Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson. The success of Strange Darling has undoubtedly made it easier for him to take on new projects with larger budgets. He will also be working with actor Kyle Gallner on his new film. Gallner is one of the stars of Strange Darling, playing the man who pursues the beautiful young woman. I recently reviewed a film where Gallner also shines in his performance: Carolina Caroline.

Actress Willa Fitzgerald plays a woman whose story begins with a one-night stand and ends in a hunt that leaves a trail of death. Her performance is excellent and demonstrates several shifts in tone as the story unfolds.

Lo único que sabía de Strange Darling era que había recibido bastante cobertura en medios especializados el año pasado. Siempre evito los spoilers, y no fue hasta que finalmente la vi que pude decir que coincidía con la mayoría de los críticos y espectadores que le habían dado reseñas positivas, porque me encantó.

Tiene un comienzo frenético, y desde ese momento, me cautivó por completo. Lo primero que noté fue su estética, que recuerda mucho a los thrillers de terror de los setenta. Una elección brillante; solo con ver esa primera secuencia, se me dibujó una sonrisa en la cara porque me recordó a un montón de películas que veía cuando alquilaba cintas VHS en el videoclub.

Como su cinematografía es tan impactante, empecé a investigar quién era el director de fotografía, y me llevé una gran sorpresa. El actor Giovanni Ribisi fue el responsable de capturar esa estética. Maneja los clichés del género, y la narrativa no lineal tampoco es precisamente original, pero la película no pretende nada más. Lo bueno es que esta combinación y el estilo del director funcionan.

Esta es la segunda película del cineasta J.T. Mollner. La primera fue Forajidos y Ángeles, que aún no he visto. It’s a movie that’s been completely forgotten—at least by most people, except me, of course. Bulletproof is directed by Ernest Dickerson and stars Adam Sandler and Damon Wayans. Get ready for what is surely the worst buddy cop movie in history.

Plot

The movie begins by showing us what appears to be a large mansion from the inside, ending at the entrance where two men are trying to steal a sports car. When they hear the alarm, they both speed off in the car while trying to escape from a police patrol through the city. The Black man driving the car calls himself Rock Keats, and his loudmouthed, troublemaking partner is named Archie Moses. The two seem to be good friends, but the truth is that Rock is an undercover police officer trying to befriend Archie so he can turn him in to his boss.

Honestly, after watching this movie for the last time, I had serious doubts about whether or not to talk about it. Bulletproof is one of those “guilty pleasures” that I’m sure everyone has when it comes to movies. I say this because it’s the worst of the worst when it comes to direction, screenplay, story, characters, and so on. The only thing that saved it was the excellent duo of Adam Sandler and Damon Wayans. It’s already hilarious enough to see Sandler playing himself in a cop movie or something like that, and adding the Wayans brother to the mix gives it a unique twist.

Also, this was one of those movies that would air very occasionally on cable TV at my house ever since I was a kid. So, just like the vast majority of Adam Sandler movies, Bulletproof is also part of my childhood and adolescence. Saying this might sound worse than you’d imagine, since watching a movie with adult humor like the one we have here is NOT AT ALL recommended—especially not with kids around, seriously. I have to admit that Sandler ruined my childhood, just like horror movies did.

Sinceramente, luego de haber visto por última vez esta película, me entraron unas fuertes dudas de si hablar de ella o no. Bulletproof es uno de esos “gustos culposos” que seguramente todo el mundo tiene al momento de ver películas. Lo digo porque es lo peor de lo peor en cuanto respecta a dirección, guión, historia, personajes, etc. Lo único que lo hizo salvable es la excelente dupla que hacen Adam Sandler y Damon Wayans. Ya de por sí me da mucha risa ver a Sandler ser él mismo en una película de policías y cosas por el estilo, la suma del hermano Wayans a esta fórmula le da un toque único.

También que este era de esas películas que muy de vez en cuando se transmitían en la televisión por cable de mi casa desde que era un niño. Así que, al igual que la gran mayoría de películas de Adam Sandler, Bulletproof también forma parte de mi infancia y adolescencia. Decir esto puede sonar peor de lo que te imaginas ya que ver una película con un humor para adultos como lo es esta que tenemos aquí no es PARA NADA recomendable verla y menos con niños presentes, de verdad. But anyway, getting back to the movie itself, despite all the bad things that can be said about Bulletproof—which is a lot—I think it has one of the most entertaining and emotional openings you’ll find in this kind of buddy cop movie, or whatever you want to call it. The first twenty minutes of the movie set the stage for everything that happens between the main characters: Jack Carter, who’s posing as Rock Keats, and Archie Moses. After watching them steal a sports car, the detective manages to gain Moses’s trust and tells him about his other job.

Moses tells Keats that he’s the right-hand man of Frank Colton, a drug dealer who launders large sums of money through his car dealership. He tells him about a quick deal they’re going to make and takes him to meet Colton, who greets him with suspicion. Next, we see Detective Carter preparing to “pull off the heist,” but everything goes wrong during the deal, and suddenly Keats is shot in the forehead by Moses, who was knocked over by a tow truck. All of this looks much better than it sounds, especially since the movie doesn’t slow down, delivering one action scene after another.

Pero bueno, volviendo a la película como tal, a pesar de todo lo malo que se pueda decir de Bulletproof -que es mucho-, considero que tiene una de las introducciones más entretenidas y emotivas que se pueden encontrar en este tipo de películas de parejas policías o como se llame. Moses le cuenta a Keats que es la mano derecha de Frank Colton, un distribuidor de droga que blanquea grandes sumas de dinero en su concesionario de autos. Le habla de un pronto negocio que harán y lo lleva ante Colton quien lo recibe de manera desconfiada. Acto seguido vemos al detective Carter prepararse para “dar el golpe”, pero todo sale mal en el negocio y de pronto Keats recibe un disparo en la frente de parte de Moses quien fue empujado por una grúa. Todo esto se ve muchísimo mejor de lo que suena, sobre todo porque la película no se detiene al darnos una escena tras otra de acción.

While it has many cuts, jumps, and unnecessary plot twists, the film’s pacing is just right for any action movie. Of course, that’s if we set aside the adult comedy elements that run through much of the film—it’s hard to watch without feeling embarrassed or uncomfortable in one way or another. The movie is full of dark humor, sexual jokes, nude scenes, racist jokes, and so on. Let’s remember that those were different times, and the humor back then was nothing like what we see in today’s heavily censored movies.

But despite all that, I won’t deny that whenever I watch Bulletproof, I have a great time thanks to Adam Sandler’s charisma as an actor. We also see him take on a role that we’re not used to seeing in his conventional comedy films. If we were to categorize Sandler’s role in this movie, it would be that of the antagonist who, over the course of the film, gradually transforms into the hero or the protagonist’s best sidekick. Because, despite everything, Wayans is the one who steals the show.

Si de alguna manera podríamos catalogar el papel que realiza Sandler en esta película sería el del antagonista que a lo largo de la cinta lo vemos convertirse poco a poco en el héroe o el mejor compañero del protagonista. Porque si, a pesar de todo, vemos que el protagonismo principal se lo lleva Wayans.

I won't deny that Damon Wayans did a good job acting here—quite the opposite, actually. His lead role as the detective going through a terrible time in his life that changes him forever and who reunites with someone from his past is solid. We see that he fits the typical mold of every protagonist in these cop movies and the like. The entertaining part comes from the comparison or contrast between his character and Sandler’s, who plays the typical small-time criminal trying to survive by any means necessary.

Despite having a simple role, Adam Sandler manages to stand out quite well, creating perfect chemistry with Damon Wayans. I won’t say it’s the best duo he’s ever formed in his entire career, but it is pretty special—aside from all the trash this movie contains. Starting with the completely absurd plot, where much of the movie consists of watching Carter drag Moses through the Texas desert—or wherever this movie was filmed—as they haphazardly escape from the dozens of heavily armed thugs who are hunting them down.

No voy a negar que Damon Wayans hizo un buen trabajo actuando aquí, más bien todo lo contrario. Su papel principal como el detective que vive un momento terrible en su vida que lo cambia para siempre y tiene su reencuentro con alguien del pasado está bien. Predictable plot twists, forgettable supporting characters—except when they interact in a special way with the main characters—and the incredible luck the main characters have in surviving almost everything. Well, it’s not for nothing that the movie is called “Bulletproof.” But the way it’s portrayed in this movie is pretty absurd—seriously, how on earth do you survive a shot to the forehead?

The movie is literally made so you can completely switch off your brain and just watch it, no matter how poorly directed and produced it is. Because even in terms of its audiovisual aspects, it has its merits too. I’m not complaining about the cinematography, since in a way it’s somewhat creative with its shots and cuts. Nor am I complaining about the color palette or the use of light and shadow. Although I do have some complaints about the sets or backgrounds in some of the film’s scenes—it’s very obvious that they’re fake. The visual effects are fine, as are the sound effects. Though I like the film’s soundtrack even better.

Personally, I give it a 7/10 rating as an action-comedy.

Como ven, la película posee una cantidad absurda de clichés típicos de toda película de acción y policías. Giros de trama predecibles, personajes secundarios fáciles de olvidar -excepto cuando interactúan de forma especial con los protagonistas- y la afortunada suerte que tienen los protagonistas que sobreviven a casi todo. Bueno, no por nada la película se llama “a prueba de balas”. Pero es que la forma en la que lo vemos en esta película es bastante absurdo, de verdad, ¿cómo rayos sobrevives de un disparo en la frente?

La película está literalmente hecha para que desconectes tu cerebro por completo y la veas sin importar lo mal dirigida y producida que está. Porque incluso en lo que respecta a algo audiovisual tiene sus detalles también. No me quejo de su fotografía ya que de cierta manera es algo creativa con los planos y cortes que tiene. Tampoco me quejo de la paleta de colores y el uso de luces y sombras. Aunque sí tengo mis quejas en lo que respecta a los escenarios o los fondos de algunas escenas de la película que se notan mucho que son falsos. Los efectos visuales están bien, al igual que los efectos de sonido. Aunque me gusta más la banda sonora que tiene la película.

Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 7/10 en lo que respecta al género de acción y comedia.

The Mandalorian and Grogu Review - Just an Extended TV Episode?
After not being too thrilled with the third season of The Mandalorian, I finally decided to check out the franchise's newest movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu. I was pretty curious why they didn't just do a fourth season instead, but I was even more surprised that it got a theatrical release, seeing as we haven't had anything from the Star Wars universe on the big screen since 2019.

Ever since Lucasfilm was bought by Disney, pretty much everything Star Wars-related has been garbage—and I say that as a die-hard fan of the original trilogy. The only things I've genuinely enjoyed and would recommend without hesitation are Andor and The Mandalorian. The latter blew up because it dropped right during the pandemic, leaning into that winning mix of cuteness, sci-fi, and action that really clicked with younger generations.

Personally, I loved the first two seasons, wasn't a huge fan of the third, and figured a fourth season would finally give the story a definitive conclusion. Instead, we get this movie, and it doesn't really wrap up the plot either. Once again, we find Mando and Grogu cruising through space, hunting down the leaders of the Imperial remnant with bounties on their heads issued by the New Republic, which is now running the show and trying to bring order to the galaxy.

As you might remember, Mando is a bounty hunter, so he takes these New Republic contracts. That leads straight into the opening action sequence on an ice planet, with Mando tearing through Stormtroopers and ultimately taking out another target. It’s a sequence worthy of the Star Wars universe, though definitely nothing we haven't seen before. He takes on another gig, but this time it involves the Hutts, tracking down Jabba’s lost son.

And that’s pretty much how the whole movie goes: chasing down characters and bagging bad guys. I won't say too much to avoid spoilers, but the plot doesn't really bring anything new to the table, neither in story nor in character development. I feel like it missed a massive opportunity to let Grogu evolve—without sacrificing the cuteness people love—by exploring his skills and showing him using the Force more effectively so he could become more independent. After all, his species lives a really long time, and he won't be able to stay with Mando forever.

At its core, the movie feels like an extended episode of the series. I think Disney ran out of ideas a long time ago; aside from Andor, there's nothing truly new and exciting to watch. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy the movie—it was fun in its own way—but it’s packed with the exact kind of Star Wars clichés that have exhausted fans and turned so many people off the franchise. Frankly, I wouldn't waste money on a movie ticket for this; it's definitely worth waiting for it to hit streaming. It’s a solid flick for a family movie night, though.

Un viaje a la infancia: Mis impresiones de la nueva versión de "La casa de la pradera" [ENG/ESP]

I recently decided to watch the new adaptation of Little House on the Prairie, a series with 8 episodes in total, of which I’ve already enjoyed the first three. Watching it stirred up a wonderful sense of nostalgia, bringing back memories of the ’70s when I was a little girl and this story was a big part of my childhood and adolescence. Although I’m not sure I watched the entire series back then, I do remember following Laura Ingalls’ journey as she grew into a young woman. After doing a little research, I’m truly amazed by the sheer scale of that original production, which spanned nine seasons with more than 20 episodes each—a titanic and admirable undertaking!

This new version preserves all the warmth of the original, and I’d even go so far as to say it surpasses it thanks to the technical resources available to today’s production. The cinematography is truly beautiful, enveloping us in the landscapes with a unique delicacy.

As for the cast, the young girl playing Laura is simply fantastic: very funny, smart, and extremely charismatic. The actor who took on the role of Charles has all the gravitas and presence the character needs—not to mention Caroline. For her part, Mary retains that same endearing sweetness that I remember so well from the series of my childhood.

Recientemente me animé a ver la nueva adaptación de La casa de la pradera, una serie que cuenta con 8 episodios en total, de los cuales ya he disfrutado los tres primeros. Verla me despertó una hermosa nostalgia, trayéndome a la memoria aquellos años 70 cuando era una niña y esta historia acompañó gran parte de mi niñez y adolescencia. Aunque no estoy segura de haberla visto por completo en su momento, sí recuerdo haber seguido el crecimiento de Laura Ingalls hasta convertirse en mujer. Investigando un poco, me impresiona enormemente pensar en la magnitud de aquella producción original, que contó con 9 temporadas y más de 20 episodios cada una; ¡una labor titánica y admirable!

Esta nueva versión conserva intacta toda la calidez de la original, e incluso me atrevería a decir que la supera gracias a los recursos técnicos con los que cuenta la producción actual. La fotografía es verdaderamente hermosa, envolviéndonos en los paisajes con una delicadeza única.

En cuanto al elenco, la niña que interpreta a Laura es simplemente fantástica: muy divertida, inteligente y sumamente carismática. It’s a movie that portrays romantic love as an escape from reality, and it’s precisely because of that painful reality that I liked it and recommend it. It stars Emilia Clarke, the same actress who played Daenerys Targaryen in “Game of Thrones,” but this time she plays Lou Clark, a sweet and innocent young woman.

“Me Before You” falls into the romance, drama, and tragic romance genres, and it delivers on what you’d expect from them; it was released in 2016. It runs for 1 hour and 50 minutes, which fly by despite the story being calm and predictable.

She thought she loved him, but after meeting Will Traynor, she realized that their relationship was based on habit.

On the other hand, Will Traynor is a young man who had it all: health, money, a social circle, and even a romantic relationship that seemed perfect until he suffered a tragic accident that left him paraplegic; as his lifestyle changed, he became bitter—and understandably so—rude, and unbearable toward those around him; he didn’t last long with any caregiver and wanted only one thing: to end his own life and have his decision respected.

That’s when Lou arrives, hired by Will’s mother, and they begin to get to know each other. The scenes between the main characters were so natural that I liked how both characters stayed true to themselves, as well as the way their friendship—and later, their brief romance—developed.

Halfway through the movie, I was hoping they’d share some passionate kisses, but that didn’t happen; there wasn’t any sex either, if that’s what you’re expecting 😁😆. Just friendship, and then a sincere love so pure that neither of them changed their path so as not to complicate the other’s life.

Although I would have liked it to have a different ending, I think it ended as it should have, maintaining the harmony of the story. The movie was enjoyable because it had refreshing moments of humor, and I feel that the entire plot encourages people to empathize with disability while respecting others’ feelings and decisions. Answering the question I posed in the title—and just as the movie presents it—love can indeed exist without being confused with compassion.

SIDELINE: THE QB AND ME - MY HONEST TAKE
It was not my plan to fall in love with this film as much as I did, but glad that I did....When I first saw it, I was bucking up for another throwaway streaming love story like “Prey.” Rather, I was actually invested, actually smiling, wherewith a little bit moved at the end. I'm no one to talk lightly about a film based on a Wattpad novel as this.

The arrangement seems familiar when written out on paper, and it is: Dallas is a strong dancer who wants to go to the same top-notch dance school that her deceased mother once studied at, and she's a dream that she owes to a person who's around no more to witness her upholding it. Her brother gets a new job as the new football coach at another high school, and she transfers with him, and right away she's attracted to Drayton the handsome and go-getting quarterback of that school, who under all of his bravado has a lot of his own problems. It's the classic "headstrong artist meets golden-boy athlete" pairing and if you've seen just half a dozen films in this genre, you know by now the general contours of the direction it will take.

But what sets this one apart, and what really took my breath away is the amount of heart that's sewn into it. They are both bearing the weight of grief.. hers over the death of her mother, his over the pressure of family and a life that's more complicated than the easy smile on his face would suggest and the movie doesn't only use those feelings of loss to build sympathy for the characters; it allows them feelings of loss to become a shaping force in how these two people relate. The relationship isn't based solely on banter and tension, it's based on a mutual something that they know and will never talk about, and that's what brings them together.

The fact that this is a so mature movie for a genre like this is something that kept me hooked even after I thought I was ready to pull the plug.

So much of this works because of the chemistry between Siena Agudong and Noah Beck, and I mean it's hard to fake that chemistry and harder to find in projects like this. There are too many of these teen romance retellings with people who are very capable of looking the part but aren't really very good at selling the emotional moments and beats and then waiting for the two pretty leads to get their cue to kiss. Not so here. Towards the end of the film, around the time the two have fallen out, Drayton shows up at Dallas's door, it's not the most polished moment, no one is delivering a line-by-line speech that is cut and dried.. that's the beauty of it. It was like an actual scene with two actors and not a beat for the script to hit and it was the scene that pulled me in to this movie.

Drayton's overbearing, image-obsessed father, played by James Van Der Beek, is a very unexpected and terrific addition to the cast. He might easily have been a one-note character, the oppressive sport daddy whose sole purpose is to stir up trouble, but here he does bring some depth and verisimilitude to the role, suggesting the same kind of unfulfilled dreams and insecurities lurking behind his controlling facade. It's the kind of acting that makes some scenes here more than filler between the love scenes in a less powerful rendition of this film.

The soundtrack deserves its very own paragraph in all honesty. It's packed with killer, moodily selected pop and indie songs that do more than just fill the silence in the background (a problem too many budget films share). I made several stops to check out the song that was playing during the film, something I wouldn't expect to do while watching an original Tubi movie.

I was in there thinking, I'm going to be bored. And I am still, I will say, charmed, invested, and a little emotional at the end.

My Honest Take? It's sweet, sincere and too emotional for the situation. An authentic feel-good watch with a worthy finish.

Merlin Review
Merlin is one of the fantastic TV series that made me fall in love with adventurous movies because this movie was so great, I mean great, that I did not want it to end, and up till now, I still see some people asking if they will continue, just like they have continued with other movies. That is to tell you how interesting this movie was back then.

Like I said, this movie is a fantasy show from BBC, which the first season was released in 2008 and ran through to 2012, a total of five seasons with sixty-plus episodes, and each season has a total of thirteen episodes. To me, this movie shows a very historical and old Arthurian legend, followed by a young warlock as the dragon usually calls him. His destiny started in Camelot after his mother sent him there because of his special gift. He was sent to his uncle, a very well known court physician, who told him to be careful with his magic in Camelot when he used it to save him during their first meeting.

However, he also went ahead to save Prince Arthur's life from a deadly witch; this act made him become the manservant as pronounced by King Uther Pendragon.

What I saw during my first watch, which was the heart of the whole show, was between someone who I refer to as a foolish prince, full of himself but courageous, and Merlin, a bickering, awkward, secretly loyal servant.

Around then are Lady Morgana, a sister to Prince Arthur, Guinevere, Morgan's servant girl who later became Arthur's wife when he was crowned the king. Gaius, like I mentioned earlier, was the elderly court physician who later became Merlin's guide, Uther Pendragon, the king, and the last dragon that was chained underneath the castle but was later free my merlin.

The surprising plot twist in this movie was that the dragon that was considered dangerous ended up saving many lives. And Morgan, who was considered to be the king's ward, later turned out to have a dark magic of her own that consumed her to do a lot of evils.

The early seasons were filled with a lot of guns and terrors, but secretly, Merlin always used his supernatural power to either cast a spell or do mind magic to protect those around him, mainly Arthur, while acting as if he knows nothing and maintaining his servant position. But as the season progressed, the real betrayal started to set in, and Morgan revealed her true colors while Arthur became the king after the passing away of his father.

But what happened at the end of this movie brought a lot of opinions spitting. From the first season to the fifth season, it was demonstrated that there's going to be a new city called Albion, built together by Merlin and Arthur of the golden age, but looking at the final episode, there was a sadder direction. I don't know if it was on purpose or if something happened in the production. During a battle, King Arthur was wounded by a druid boy, and in that encounter, Merlin eventually revealed his true self, and that was not enough to save Arthur.

Well, a lot of people after watching were not happy with the ending because they called it a name I wouldn't want to mention here, but they somehow felt cheated by what happened after a long year they have invested hoping to see what will happen next and what was promised. While otherwise, some referred to the movie as beautifully tragic conclusion. Even though the movie ended years ago, I still anticipate for a continuation.

And if you haven't seen this movie buy you enjoy watching a family fantasy that turns genuinely emotional by the end, I will recommend you watch Merlin because it is worth watching. Just brace yourself before the final episode.

One of the current trends in horror cinema focuses on creating unsettling atmospheres. In this case, it's a film I saw a few months ago and have been eager to recommend. It belongs to the folklore horror subgenre and is set in Iceland—a perfect setting for creating striking images that contribute to the story's terrifying nature.

It's directed by Icelandic filmmaker Thordur Palsson, whose previous work was on the series The Valhalla Murders. I think he garnered attention with The Condemned; the film was screened at the Sitges Film Festival, and the director's next project is an adaptation of the video game Dead by Daylight. After seeing his work on The Condemned, I'm very excited to see this new film.

The story takes place in the 19th century in a region of Iceland where fishermen work. It's a world of sailors, though this one is ruled by a woman. This part didn't seem entirely believable to me, but it's the beautiful Odessa Young who plays Eva, the widow who must assume the role of leader of the household with this group of rough, calloused, fishy-smelling men.

That maritime environment has always been steeped in superstition. I think that even today, those who dedicate themselves to fishing have their rituals, superstitions, and beliefs. The characters in this film even more so, since it's set two centuries ago, when they were very devout in their religion, in addition to believing in myths and rituals from their Viking past. It's the perfect combination for most of them to fall into a kind of paranoia after the events that trigger the story's conflict.

The mind can play tricks on us, especially if we are devout believers in a religion, giving supernatural explanations to everything we can't coherently explain. That's why the film also delves into psychological horror. Is everything we see real? Is it a curse for having done what they had to do? This group of characters is doomed, either because something is starting to kill them or because they are victims of their own madness.

The mostly male cast fits their roles perfectly. Many convey the toughness and brutality typical of sailors. The actor who played The Mountain in Game of Thrones is one of them. Another actor who appeared in House of the Dragon also participates. The most attractive of all is Joe Cole, whom many will recognize from the series Peaky Blinders. He undoubtedly has the best chemistry with the character of Eve.

At times, it reminded me of other films in the "epic horror" subgenre, and here it focuses on the psychological aspect of the characters and pays special attention to the visual aspect, as I mentioned at the beginning. Certainly, that is its most striking aspect, which I like, but I also notice that many films are overexploiting this style, and there may come a time when it no longer has the same appeal.

Hey Hive and #scrobblelife folks, I'm watching a fantastic series that's really caught my attention. It's called The Handmaid's Tale. While researching it, I also learned that this series is based on a dystopian novel by Margaret Atwood, published in 1985 and adapted into a film (1990) and the well-known TV series, which is the one I'm currently watching and it's very exciting.

The first episode starts off a bit confusing. We see June, her husband, and daughter running from several men who were chasing them; We don't know why they're doing this, but we realize they're only after June and her daughter. Knowing this, June's husband stays behind to distract the men while they try to escape. They don't succeed because they're eventually captured, and when June resists, a man hits her on the head with his gun, knocking her unconscious. When she wakes up, we realize that June is no longer called that; she's now Offred, the protagonist and narrator. From June's perspective, we experience the isolation and loss of her former life, as she becomes the narrator of her own story. Hola chicos de Hive y de #scrobblelife, estoy viendo una serie buenísima que me ha llamado mucho la atención se llama El cuento de la criada investigando también me enteré que esta serie está basada en una novela distópica de Margaret Atwood publicada en 1985 y adaptada a película (1990) y a la conocida serie de televisión que es la que estoy viendo actualmente y está muy emocionante.

I like reflections, and boy, do I read a lot of them, but their biggest weakness is that they tend to be more boring than my own soul. That’s why I’ll add a touch of good, gut-wrecking, radioactive-pink bubblegum to this review 🤪🤪, I think it will bring a smile to the complex and manipulated reality we are living in.

They Live is a film that represents exactly that, but by kicking the rear end of the dominant and controlling boredom of the elites. It was a movie slaughtered in its time, which is classic John Carpenter... but I also think time took care of giving it its rightful cult status among the American audience back then, because of how Carpenter portrayed the way they control us socially, politically, and constitutionally.

Me agradan las reflexiones y vaya que leo muchas pero la gran debilidad que tienen es que tienden a ser mas aburridas que mi alma, por eso agregare el toque de un buen chicle color rosado radiactivo destruye tripas a esta reseña 🤪🤪, pienso le agregara una sonrisa a la compleja y manipulada realidad en la que estamos viviendo.

They Live es un film que representa justo lo anterior pero dandole una patada en el trasero al aburrimiento dominante y controlador de las elites, pelicula masacrada en sus tiempos, algo tipico con John Carpenter.... pero tambien el tiempo pienso se encargo de darle su merecido lugar de culto en la audiencia Americana de la epoca por la manera en que Carpenter represento la manera en que social, politica y constitucionalmente nos controlan.

Carpenter takes all of the above and turns it into animatronics 🤩🤩.... WoW!! How I loved rewatching this movie precisely because of the puppets; they are so bizarre, terrifying, and raw to look at. If you like that relatively old-school way of making 80s cinema, this movie is already for you.

In reality, the puppets aren't horror-like—please, to the audience that doesn't watch horror, this is not a horror movie 😅😅—and honestly, the puppets are just as human as you and me because of how artificial and apathetic they are toward humanity. Beyond how ugly they look, otherwise, they are very human..... which further expands the social representation of today's world in this Carpenter film.

En si los Muñecos no son de Terror, por favor audiencia que no ve Terror, esta no es una pelicula de Terror 😅😅 y los muñecos sinceramente son tan humanos como tu y yo por lo artificiales y apaticos que son con la humanidad, mas alla de lo feos que son, de resto son muy humanos..... lo cual amplia aun mas la representacion social del mundo actual en este film de Carpenter.

Hay disparos, golpes, caidas imposibles de sobrevivir pero tambien La Elite esta presente en su historia y hace nada muchos creiamos que eran fabula. Si vemos atras en el tiempo, muchas obras ya nos delataban ese Regimen de Control, en Cine de los 80 They Live pateaba tu trasero conformista y ya te advertia del consumismo, el dinero y el control.

Un chicle y Patear Traseros.... Que mas premisa quieres para ver esta pelicula que plantea La Matrix mucho antes que la misma Matrix 🤪🤪

I have been pushing on this one lately and now Im past half way of this season, its actually getting better and Episode 6 kept the same momentum as Episode 5 because the crisis on Mars finally has more than one side capable of making a terrible decision, but I still think the episode holds back too much when it should let the damage feel immediate. The people inside MOCC control Happy Valley and a handful of hostages, but they do not really have a plan beyond stopping automation and protecting the life they built there, which tracks after a violent protest, like what else you going to do besides taking control of the place? I mean its not worth killing anyone, thats not how things going to get sort out, this is not a ransome. I like that the show does not suddenly turn them into skilled leaders because they took a building, Gerardo can take control of a room but it is Miles who gets that threats alone will not keep anyone alive, anger pushed these people into action but anger cannot run a base, protect hostages or make Earth listen. I got to mention that the episode spends so much time moving groups around the board that it doesnt really show how all this violence is starting to affect them, people got killed and hurt, the base is damaged, and everyone is stuck inside a political fight that can get worse fast, but the episode plays calm about it. I get why, the characters need time to figure out what comes next, but the result feels more like preparation, giving the season direction without giving this chapter enough weight to make a difference or be that important to the story.

Boyd is the best part of the episode because she refuses to pick a side and trust it blindly, so she helps Miles get into MOCC and works with peacekeepers who stopped backing Palmer, but she will not hand the hidden weapons to the protesters because their anger makes sense to her. She knows those guns could stop Palmer from taking full control, but Gerardo has no real plan for using them and handing weapons to scared, divided people makes everything worse and can backfire very quick. That keeps the protesters from becoming another armed group and gives the episode one person thinking past the next five minutes. Miles gets better once he is inside MOCC, he sees that keeping workers tied up and treating everyone like an enemy only proves Earth right about who they are, so he pushes for something more reasonable. He is useful without becoming some perfect leader, he is still taking a big risk and his history with the peacekeepers could be used against him later. His idea to stop the iridium shipments is smart, it gives Mars leverage without hurting hostages, but it is dangerous since Earth can cut off the food, medicine and equipment that keeps Happy Valley alive, and that risk becomes real the second Bragg answers with his own embargo, then Miles basically end up giving Mars something real to bargain with but he also gives Earth a reason to use force instead of talking, as they go everything they do just push closer and closer for Earth to choose violence.

Aleida brings the common sense here, she understands winning MOCC means nothing if the systems fail and everyone dies anyway. She walks in knowing the protesters might not let her leave and makes clear the workers need to get back to their jobs and keep the fusion systems under control, no matter how anyone feels about the takeover. She cuts through the noise fast, she is not there to back Gerardo or defend the governor, she is there because Happy Valley cannot run on anger and the Titan crew needs real information about what happened, which makes her way more useful that on the people in the room, she realize someone has to make some sense and keep the show running. On the other hand Dev situation is a lot more complicated, his first instinct is worrying about Alex, but separating from security feels careless since everyone already blames him for the automation mess so he is a target and can get in hot water real quick. There is in fact an attack on him but it happens so fast it feels more like a way to force Dev to change than a moment that makes any impact to the story. He comes back beaten up and orders the Helios doors locked, and that is the part I care about, Dev has spent years talking about a future for people on Mars and now those same people see him as the guy trying to cut them out of it, the truth is that he has always been blind by his ego, yes he has done some genious stuff in the past because cant denied that but, you live long enough to watch your hero become the villain. Locking the doors could be a safety call or the first sign he no longer trusts the workers he claims to support, I am not sure and the episode ends before Dev explains what this really means.

Finally Earth cutting everyone off is effective, but it does makes the conflict bigger, but it also shows the episode needed more time with the people caught in the middle. Bragg refuses to negotiate and cuts off supplies to Mars, punishing the whole settlement for what a small group inside MOCC did and while that makes sense politically once the governor announces the iridium shipments are stopping, it is still reckless. Happy Valley has families, injured people, workers who never joined the takeover and kids who had zero say in any of it. The embargo gives the season a real threat to build toward but the episode barely takes the time to develop what that means before something new comes up. The scenes with Avery and Marcus hint that military action is coming as expected, their training is prepping them for it and Marcus admits he liked the friends he made up there even though the planet never won him over. Avery telling Marcus that Danny Stevens was her biological father adds more weight to the idea of her being sent to Mars, after all her father caused the drilling disaster there and later died on the planet, but I wish the episode spent more time showing how she or Marcus feels about possibly being sent against people they know, they have gone through a lot and got some skin in the game. The Alex and Lily stuff is sweet but small next to everything else, and Lee coming back is interesting but so sudden it feels inserted by convinience or to fill up some space, they might save something for later and might matter when we get there, but right now it adds to the feeling everyone is being pushed toward the next crisis instead of the one already happening.

I like the direction this season is heading more than I like this episode, honestly I dont know how the episode starts a bit exciting because finally we were getting some chaos with more than one side but its like they pull the brakes. The politics finally make sense and nobody in this fight has a clean way out, like the protesters cannot surrender without risking punishment and losing their homes, Earth cannot give in without handing Mars real political power, and Dev cannot keep acting like the guy building a better future while the workers think his plan is to replace them, we have come to a path with multiple directions almost like the episode needs to choose and but there is no right answer. Boyd still has to figure out what she does with those weapons if Palmer tries to retake MOCC and the Titan crew gets pulled in because the people they care about are stuck at Happy Valley. That gives the rest of the season plenty to work with and the best part is one bad choice can blow up into a problem for everyone, so I think this episode needed to be more than a bridge between the riot and whatever Earth does next, the attack on Dev needed more room, more chaos, the embargo needed more reaction from the people who will suffer and the peacekeeper split needed more attention since that could decide who controls the base. Instead the episode gives every problem enough time to point at the future before moving on, almost like in some way the script is falling into a "what if this, what if that" but nothing really concrete happens that moves or takes a clear desision, nobody wants to be the one that pulls the trigger, yes there is preassure form all sides but still noone has the upper hand or a desisive win of this battle. I was never bored watching it and the handful of choices they put out worked for me, its a lot to process, especially Boyd refusing to hand over those weapons and Aleida taking charge of the practical stuff inside MOCC while everyone else argued, but by the end I felt the same way I felt through most of the hour, this episode does the job of setting up something bigger, it does not fully deliver on the crisis already happening.

I hadn't really shared this movie before because I didn't have a good community to review it in; I remember when it came out it caused quite a stir, both because of the cast and the fresh comedy. It was released on March 7, 2024, on Prime Video, and directed by Peter Farrelly, a two-time Oscar winner. It arrived somewhat quietly, but with a bang, and those who have seen it know it's definitely worth checking out.

Realmente no había compartido esta película porque no tenía una buena comunidad donde hacer reseñas; recuerdo que cuando salió causó un poquito de sensación, tanto por el elenco que aquí se encuentra como por la comedia fresca que hay aquí. Esta fue estrenada el 7 de marzo de 2024 en la plataforma de Prime Video, y dirigida por Peter Farrelly, ganador de dos Premios Óscar. Esta llegó un poco silenciosa, pero apostando por todo, y quienes han visto esta película saben que sí vale la pena darle el gusto.

One Halloween, three kids caused such a big problem that they had to invent a story to avoid punishment. I can't deny that William H. Macy's performance as Summerhayes was one of my favorites. I remember him from Shameless, where he starred alongside his family. Here, he's the boss of one of the guys, and many try to impress him, but he maintains a seriousness that seems to prevent him from opening up to others. Without a doubt, the most epic scene in this film features this actor, because despite being very serious, his humor shines through in his gestures, creating the most memorable moment.

No puedo negar que la participación de "William H. Macy" como Summerhayes fue de mis favoritos. Este lo recuerdo desde Shameless, pues es el protagonista de dicha serie junto a su familia. Aquí es el jefe de uno de los muchachos y muchos buscan impresionarlo, pero este muestra una seriedad que parece no dejarlo abrirse a los demás. Sin más, la escena más épica de esta película está de la mano de este actor, pues a pesar de ser muy serio, su humor está en sus gestos, dando el momento más memorable.

While the acting was decent, given the lighthearted nature of the story, one can't really expect too much, even though the casting was well-chosen, no one stood out. Peter Farrelly deserves credit here as the mastermind behind the film, because beyond the acting and special effects, the direction and writing were excellent. Its irreverent comedy makes it one of the best comedies I saw that year; it had been a while since I'd seen anything like it.

Si bien, hay que admitir que las actuaciones fueron buenas, pues al ser una historia ligera, no podemos esperar mucho realmente, a pesar de que el casting de esta fue bien elegido, como para no destacar a ninguno. Peter Farrelly se debe mencionar aquí como la gran mente, ya que, más allá de actuaciones o efectos especiales, hubo una excelente dirección y escritura para esta, con su comedia irreverente que la vuelve una de las mejores películas de comedia que vi en ese año, pues tenía rato que no veía algo similar.
