Now with Jason Momoa doing Lobo in an upcoming DCEU movie sometimes I go back and look at the very two movies from DCEU that in my opinion were decent, they were not bad even considering how The Lost Kingdom was in the middle of the storm after the legal dispute between Amber Heard and her ex husband Jhonny Depp aka Jack Sparrow, she even got a ton of scenes deleted from the movie and still I think Momoa took the movie on his shoulders and perform well enough to be remember, well its true that it didnt perform as expected but it was a sequel that went through a lot and I still feel it was entertaining to watch on a back to back during a weekend with not much to do. We also need to take in consideration they took five years to release the sequel after the hit that was the first Aquaman movie, talk about a lost opportunity, may be I'm just trying to defend this movie too much but consider this were the times when the rumor about super hero movies been exhaust was a thing due to the MCU also not performing.
What really works the best for this movie is how the sequel keeps the same thread as the original one, with the same characters, some new but on the same story on how Aquaman prefer to stay away from all the drama but main hard decisions that it is to be the king of the seven seas, with the contrast of looking for the help of his brother who was exile but now might be his right hand between all the trouble he is in against Black Manta, a true chapter two for the story.

Source The movie tries to make justice for the close to five years of waiting and keeps it going in the background with Aquaman now having a kid with Mera, true blue blood line as the realm would want, he had to stay juggling time between been the King of Atlantis, a father and a son to his human father Tom. This part of the movie felt like a good filler for the plot and makes things a bit more complex having Mera a bit distant at times since she is the one more into the Kingdom royal stuff and traditions while Arthur is more about living his wild life so its not straight up living their lifes at Atlantis as King and Queen.
Black Manta is back on the story and more powerful than ever, I find his story way more interesting on the sequel since they show how now he goes through a similar process as Arthur did to get the balck trident, similar to Arthur trident this one comes from a dark kingdom with an army of mostly undeath. As any other movie with so many threads to follow this becomes a problem when they beggin to fall short in time to keep develping each and jumping from one to another, specially the Black Manta felt that they had to cut down quality and time to develop his ship and other aspects about his plans, been a villain is not easy and less when you are trying to go around the world splinter the movie into two to three threads.

Source James Wan returns to direct after the sucess of the 2018 version and the movie suffers from inconsistent CGI that goes from impressive to distracting horrors, they went hard on creating the underwater city Atlantis with all the different species, customs, ships, creatures, its a massive kingdom and I could only imagine they just couldnt go full blown perfection on each so its just reasonable that there will be some lack on quality in the CGI department at times, depending how relevant the scene at hand was. When you're making a movie primarily underwater where there is not much light and everything feels alien like, you need high level visual effects to sell the world and sadly Aquaman 2 often falls short. There are moments where the underwater kingdoms look magical and immersive but then others where you can practically see the green screen edges, Im probably exagerating but thats how it felt.
The movie pacing is another issue, with the first part that drags basically because there is not much progress to the problem Arthur was facing, plus Mera's character didn't help that much specially how bad many Johny Depp fans think of her during that time, its not until Arthur breaks his half brother Orm out of prison that action and Momoa's charisma starts to pick up the pace of the movie. From that point the movie turns into a best buddies adventure that actually works better than expected thanks to the chemistry between Momoa and Patrick Wilson, on top of been the powerful brothers couple that her mother wanted them to be. But even with this improvement, but then it comes the Black Manta side of the story that felt rush and short, plus I hated the inside of his ship, for me probably the worst CGI of the entire movie.

Source The environmental message is pretty heavy throughout the movie as how the Orichalcum was so toxic for the sea and earth but so powerful at the same time very similar to what fossil fuel type is now days and how much damage it can do to our planet if not properly manage, on the movie it was something way more toxic but its a methaphor. At least I would say it gives some sort of present real world relevance beyond just another superhero movie, creating a connection between whats on the screen to our present days wih polution and we humans been a destructive living thing.
Jason Momoa probably is the Pedro Pascal of superhero movies in the sense of how well some characters fit him, similar to how some actors have play James Bond or Batman and they just feel natural either because of their heavy British presence or dark side superhero vibes. Jason fits perfectly Aquaman and brings back his charisma and physical presence, the truth is that if it wasnt for him and the heavy fantasy aspect of the movie I would not enojoy it one bit, it would probably end been a Ryan Renolds Green Lantern. For the most part aside from his physic, what works the best for Jason and the movie is his charisma, jokes never feel force and its like he match the Aquaman they trying to describe, one that never takes things fully seriously, always ready with a smirk, specially when Orm is around him, been the perect contrast to his brother, Momoa does play the character as an extension of himself, full blown tattoed savage funny guy with a heart of gold, that just works and would probably does the same on any other similar character he might play in future projects.

I might give it a too high calification for what it deserve but the fact that it works great as a sequel for the first movie plus wrapping things up very well makes it a movie I would watch back to back on a weekend, as the story does makes sense but its unfortunate that the CGI doesnt work that well on the sequel, I gave this movie a 7.5/10 and I know that for part of the audience that was more of a movie critic than enjoying what was going on the screen the script felt flat and silly at times but I would say it works just fine for a jounger audience, may be if I get on the same side yes would give it a lower score but I'm a bit bias too since I grew up during the 80s and 90s watching the Justice League and having movies been made out of this characters feels amazing, unless its as crappy as the Green Lantern movie.

Last night had nothing to watch after I got from home so decided to look at those movies I put aside for moments like this, its the case of Rampage (2018), its not an official Monster Verse movie in like Godzilla and Kong realm but it gets close, still I'm glad its not because the Rock is in it, not that I consider him a bad actor but for sure not my favorite actor when it comes to action movies, his movies are entertaining but still.
After watching the movie I found out this movie is based on the classic 1986 arcade game Rampage, been such an old game I doubt there is much lore about it and that it would be massively off from the game story. The game itself was pretty simple - you played as a giant gorilla, wolf or lizard and your goal was to destroy as many buildings as possible while avoiding military strikes, as I mention not exactly a lot of story into it to develop an entire movie, but that's probably why they throw in Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, some science about genetic editing and a budget for massive CGI destruction, and then we get a movie that's exactly what shows on the cover, a loud monster smash fest that doesn't pretend to be anything more than what it is, a movie that knows its audience and delivers exactly what they came for, but I have to say the movie does have a cringe dialogue and very little character development that makes me wonder if the writers spent more time thinking about how to make a giant giant monsters smash everything around them or spend some time developing a story that could get you somewhere.

Source The hole dna modifying is the big thing of the movie, that's how monsters came to be and the movie starts in a space station where a genetically modified rat goes crazy once it escape and start killing almost everyone except one scientist name Kerry Atkins, who was trying to save research samples before the station explodes, to be honest I couldn't find a reason why he survive, but he did and probably is one of the main flaws of the movie that some things just happen without much context and that's why I mention how it seems the movie puts most of the time developing the visuals than the story itself.
The samples Kerry save had a pathogen created by a corporation called Energyne to genetically edit other living things. Kerry did manage to escape with the samples before the station blew up but her pod also falls apart when entering back Earth, but the samples containers remain in one piece and spread across the US, one landed in San Diego Wildlife Sanctuary where Davis Okoye, role played by The Rock; works as a primatologist with a military background, special forces. Davis has a special bond with an Albino Gorilla, the one from the movie cover, Davis rescued him from illegal hunters and similar to other movies they communicate with each other through sign language. At the Sanctuary, George is expose to the pathogen and starts to grow dramatically, this also alter him in other ways making him extremely aggressive almost out of control, George is not the only one mutating, there are other animals at the Sanctuary too so Davis has his hands full while trying to help his friend George.

The moment they show other animals mutating in a single area you pick up the plot real quick and the movie does tend to become very predictable although entertaining, I would describe this movie as the type where you dont want to think so much and just go with the flow while having a good time. There were two other containers that make it out of the space stations so we got our two other main monsters, a Wolf from Wyoming and a crocodile from the Everglades, this last two start moving towards Chicago. Within the movie there is your classic mad scientist or villain in this case Energyne CEO Claire Wyden, role played by Malin Akerman; who mostly care about the research and company without carrying about the innocent civilians who might die along the way as the monsters keep moving.

Source The movie inst necessary bad as I mention but it does lack character development, but Dwayne Johnson does a good job as the main character, he has that natural charisma and physical presence, and now that I think about the main character could have been worst if they go F&F all over the top with the ex special force soldier theme turn into some sort of vigilante on high alert for illegal hunters but the movie doesn't, through acting and personality I think the character was smooth enough but still a bit cringe and cheesy at times, his relationship with George is another aspect that saves the character and the movie since its a surprisingly very touching relationship that builds up through the movie with the contrast of how George turns and how it was before his mutation.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan aka Negan, in my opinion steals the show and after watching the movie I ask myself why is it that some actors just never feel like their characters sux even though the script does, its the case of Jeffrey Morgan, I'm not sure if its because he became so famous from TWD and the other great productions he has been part of. This time he plays the role of a special government agency agent called Harvey Russell who does know what the hell is going on with this monsters as everyone else is trying to figure it out, its actually a bit of a similar style of character as Negan where it feels he is a step ahead everyone else on the room, this makes the movie far more entertaining that it would be without him, agent Russell plays a kinda neutral ground in this hole mess.

I have always heard how the villain part on a script is always the hardest to pull off by the actor, in the case of Rampage (2018) I consider it to be the worst, its like they fully focus on monsters scenes and as they start going through the rest of the characters the villains were at the end of the line and really fall short of significant context and development, we have the classic evil corporate siblings and to be honest makes very little contribution for the movie itself, I would rather focus on mutating animals attacking the city with Davis and Harvey looking for ways to stop them rather than looking for who is responsible.

Source The ending of the movie is exactly what you would expect, if I have seen Rampage before Godzilla X Kong then the fight scenes at the city would be so familiar almost like a copy paste, what makes the ending special or at least make the audience root for Davis is when he teams up with George again once he gets an antidote, George actually eats Claire while she had the antidote, another reason might make the viewers root for George as divine justice is serve. At the end there is this final battle between George and the wolf monster who they identify as Ralph, its a pretty good one considering they destroy half of Chicago, I'm wondering why they use giant Crocodiles on this kind of movies? or Lizards? they never have a chance against someone like George plus there is Davis on the movie that in a classic The Rock fashion knows how to operate all kind of battle vehicles been its more classic a helicopter. I dont want to go too much into details about the ending since I already drop the beans on most important aspects of the movie and believe me there are not too many, but over all its a good ending considering what the movie is and the reach this movie was created for, I'm sure it was not trying to be better than any Godzilla movie rather just another action packed monster movie.

In my opinion Rampage (2018) can be a good occasional entertaining movie that we watch on cable when there is nothing else to watch you just go for it as your best option, its set to be a big dumb monster movie where you dont have to think much about it and to be honest I doubt this movie was trying to have a huge impact on the genre of humanity. On that level I think the movie succeeds, some might even call it a very average movie or mediocre but the truth is that not every movie has to be a block buster to be entertaining, there are many monster movies and natural disaster movies where the main attraction doesn't take too long to develop or screen time, making the entire movie be the trailer.
The CGI and practical effects are good enough, specially with the creatures that some times are the hardest part to make them look at least ok if not "natural", plus the action sequences are very cool towards the end of the movie during the big fight. If I have to pick this is not the worst movie The Rock has been in, but for me when things are not so clear on how bad this movie is I always think about how I would feel if I watch it at the cinema and the answer is not so good, very meh, reason why I give it a 6/10.

The Last of Us (2023): Through the Valley - S02E02 - RECAP

Sadly I'm a bit behind on posting the series and movies I have been watching due to an elbow injury but today I'm finally feeling better than two days ago and can sit down to get up to date, because of the injury I have been spending quite the time watching series like The Last of Us, Andor and a couple of movies besides my regular YouTube consumption.
The Last of Us is that series that never disappoints, at least not me; I mention this on my previous post, either its a full drama episode or full non stop action its always a great watch, I know the series might not be 100% down to the game but its also been mention through a couple of articles from the creators how its an adaptation for TV so there are things that are either not allow to show on TV or adapted for audience retention, different than gamers, content viewers have a less time for retention so it has to be a different formula to keep the audience interested.

Episode 2 has not trouble on doing that, the series keeps giving us context since its been a very long time after season 1, it stays focus on showing the evolution of Ellie as a fighter mostly because emotionally its obvious that she still not mature, still not an adult but I wouldn't blame her after everything she has gone through and knowing she is the only one who can actually survive a bite from an infected, the episode also focus on how important is to keep that a secret because its all unicorns and rainbows at Jackson as long as nobody knows her secret, once that secret comes out she probably wont be consider the same sweet rebel girl, rather be a solution for everyone biggest problem even if that means she has to be sacrifice.

Source Joel currently is carrying some heat without even knowing it, Abby who has sworn to kill Joel for all the Fireflies that he killed back in Salt Lake City hospital including her father, all this memories keep haunting her and keeps her fully motivated to the point that it don't matter if she has to go to the end of the world to find Joel, without knowing it she is closer. By now or for anyone born mid 80s I think the Apocalypses standard TV series is The Walking Dead and I cant denied how the first scenes when Abby shows up with her friends remind me so much of it, during this type of series many times those who are alive are the bigger threat than the rest, in this case the infected, there is also a scene where Abby and her friends go out to scout and all of the sudden she finds tons of dead bodies that were been use as insulation for the hundred of Infected who where trying to weather out the cold of the mountains.
At Jackson they are getting prepare for a potential Infected attack but they were not so sure about it since Infected never show some sort of strategy or intelligence, they just attach what ever moves when ever they can but this time it was different, as I mention all the Infected using dead bodies as insulation and with the roots infiltrating the pipelines they knew where the target was so it was a matter of just going for it. Jackson is a very fortified town with high walls made out of thick wood, lots of guns an ammo but its evident that during this type of Apocalypses Zombie series, humans are usually out number.
Source Source The episode feels very strategic as how it can handle all the story lines and still feels its not skipping or jumping from one to another, instead it does feel they are all connected with each other, I only wonder how a series like The Wheel of Time would be if it follow the same type of smooth transitions. We have Abby hunting for Joel who got out of Jackson because there is the chance Ellie is in trouble due to a heavy storm and at the same time their town is on high alert after they have discovered the roots on the pipelines are in fact cordisepts roots. This combination of events leads to one, if not the best; of the most intense episodes ever so far of the series, on season 1 we did have an episode where a good amount of Infected chase Joel and Ellie on top of a hidden shooter who wanted to kill them, similar story with Infected on one side, Abby on the back and Jackson that turn as the main target for the infected towards the end of the episode, its that chain of events that works so well for the series.
Things wouldn't work out so perfect for Abby even if she plan it, the series of events that unfold all favor her, the moment she decided to go down the mountain and then stumble into the pile of dead bodies that awake the Infected, it was like she was the bait to have Joel safe her so then she lure him into the place she was staying just to kill him. In a short description that's how things went down and I really cant believe and still do not accept that Joel is dead, he went through a lot of pain as Abby plan was to kill him slowly and having Ellie discovering everything went down makes things more interesting since I'm 110% sure she is going to do the same damn thing for Abby. It will be miracle if when they get to Jackson for some reason Joel is still alive although I doubt it since Abby beat him down so bad and then put a golf club through his neck, then there is that scene where Ellie, Dina and Jesse and dragging down Joel's body back to Jackson that is now on fire.
Source Source As you can tell there are two main questions after Episode 3, is Joel still alive? what is Ellie going to do about it?. The battle that went down at Jackson was epic, did felt like a LOR battle although this time it was on an Apocalypse type of TV series, something I dont remember seen. The details about how prepare and organize the town was is amazing, from their line of defense, the gas tanks to lit up the Infected, how they have a plan if the Infected went through the wall and invade the town, the trained dogs was massive in my opinion too, besides the battle taking quite some time and not just a couple of split scenes from it.
Tommy, Joel's brother; has such an intense fight with the leader infected at battle, I'm glad Gabriel Luna, actor who plays Tommy; is having so much screen time during the series and it does feel like he is going to be the one now looking after Ellie once Joel goes out, it really impress me Joel dies so early into the season considering its Pedro Pascal playing the role.

Same as with my previous episode RECAP this was not a short post but I'm sure The Last of Us is a favorite for a lot of people although I'm really impressed how Season two has such a very low rating on RTT at only 51% when Season One end up with 87%. I know the series have a few scenes with Dina and Ellie where it feels like they trying to push a message, also with Ellie having feelings for Dina but I personally don't find it a deal breaker and also long as its not excessive I wouldn't mind, besides the series is based on an Apocalypse type of situation after all, also keep in mind that this is not a family show.
In my opinion it has been a great start for the series, even if episode one felt a bit slow or drama only it still felt it was a smooth episode considering to what was prepared for the second episode, it wouldn't be strange if the third one would be a banger too with all the questions and doors that are left open after Jackson attack and Joel's death.

What to expect from the next “I Know What You Did Last Summer”?

The cinematic power of slashers (especially from the 90s, a decade that I simply adore... and not just for horror movies, but for cinema in general) is coming back with full force this year. Recently, a full trailer for the long-awaited sequel to the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise (which, by the way, has the same title here) was released by Sony Pictures Entertainment, and in general, the repercussions regarding the promotional material have been positive, and as expected, among fans, the acceptance has been practically unanimous.

I am one of these fans, I really like the first two movies (and I pretend that the third movie doesn’t exist, because it is a real outlier, capable of decharacterizing the entire franchise with a disastrous result), and I have high hopes for this new sequel. However, watching the trailer, I got the impression that nothing really new will happen here. The script's format seems to have changed a little (and the opening scene of the trailer only reinforces the idea that this change was inspired by other slasher movies), but the essence of the idea remains the same.

The new cast doesn't stand out as it should and I found the interaction between them a bit artificial. I know it's just the first trailer (but given the fact that it's a very complete promotional material, with some very unnecessary details, by the way) I really expected to see a much greater connection between them, but with the exception of the long-awaited returns of Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. (respectively in the role of Julie James and Ray Bronson), no one stands out. Considering only what was shown in the trailer, the script will bet on doing the basics, but with nostalgia.

It seems to me that this will be the most violent movie in the franchise so far, with creative potential (at least in this aspect) of a high level considering how the minds of the screenwriters have evolved over the years. Making horror and suspense with violent scenes is not easy, especially when you have to mix new elements into the recipe. This sequel with a remake flavor (because the similarity between the stories is blatant) may surprise in terms of box office (once again, point for nostalgia), but I think that narratively, it will be just another entertainment.

¿Qué esperar del próximo “Sé lo que hicisteis el último verano”?

El poder cinematográfico de los slashers (sobre todo de los 90, una década que simplemente adoro… y no sólo por el cine de terror, sino por el cine en general) vuelve con toda su fuerza este año. Recientemente, Sony Pictures Entertainment lanzó un tráiler completo de la esperada secuela de la franquicia Sé lo que hicisteis el último verano (que, por cierto, tiene el mismo título aquí), y en general, la reacción al material promocional ha sido positiva y, como era de esperar, entre los fans, la aceptación ha sido prácticamente unánime.

Soy uno de esos fans, me gustan mucho las dos primeras películas (y hago como si la tercera no existiera, porque es una auténtica atípica, capaz de descaracterizar a toda la franquicia con un resultado desastroso), y tengo grandes esperanzas puestas en esta nueva secuela. Sin embargo, al ver el tráiler, me dio la impresión de que aquí no va a pasar nada realmente nuevo. El formato del guión parece haber cambiado un poco (y la escena inicial del tráiler solo refuerza la idea de que este cambio se inspiró en otras películas slashers), pero la esencia de la idea sigue siendo la misma.

El nuevo elenco no logra destacar como debería y encontré la interacción entre ellos un poco artificial. Sé que es sólo el primer tráiler (pero dado que es un material promocional muy completo, con algunos detalles muy innecesarios, por cierto) realmente esperaba ver una conexión mucho mayor entre ellos, pero con excepción de los esperados regresos de Jennifer Love Hewitt y Freddie Prinze Jr. (respectivamente en el papel de Julie James y Ray Bronson), nadie destaca. Teniendo en cuenta solo lo mostrado en el tráiler, el guión se centrará en hacer lo básico, pero con nostalgia.

Me parece que esta será la película más violenta de la franquicia hasta el momento, con un potencial creativo de alto nivel (al menos en este aspecto) considerando cómo han evolucionado las mentes de los guionistas a lo largo de los años. Crear terror y suspenso con escenas violentas no es fácil, especialmente cuando hay que mezclar nuevos elementos a la receta. Esta secuela con sabor a remake (porque el parecido entre las historias es evidente) puede sorprender en taquilla (una vez más, punto por la nostalgia), pero creo que narrativamente será un entretenimiento más.

O que esperar do próximo “Eu Sei O Que Vocês Fizeram No Verão Passado”?

O poder cinematográfico dos slashers (em especial dos anos 90, uma década que eu simplesmente adoro... e não pelos filmes de horror apenas, mas pelo cinema em geral) estão voltando com força total este ano. Recentemente um trailer completo da tão esperada sequência da franquia Eu Sei O Que Vocês Fizeram No Verão Passado (que por sinal, carrega aqui o mesmo título) foi divulgado pela Sony Pictures Entertainment, e de modo geral, a repercussão sobre o material promocional tem sido positiva, e como já era esperado, entre os fãs, a aceitação tem sido algo praticamente unânime.

Eu sou um desses fãs, gosto demais dos dois primeiros filmes (e faço de conta que o terceiro filme não existe, porque se trata de um verdadeiro ponto fora curva, capaz de descaracterizar toda a franquia com um resultado desastroso), e tenho boas esperanças quanto a esta nova sequência. No entanto, assistindo ao trailer, eu fiquei com a impressão que nada de muito novo vai acontecer aqui. O molde do roteiro parece ter mudado um pouco (e a cena inicial do trailer só reforça a ideia de que essa mudança teve inspiração em outros filmes slashers), mas a essência da ideia continua igual.

O novo elenco não consegue se destacar como deveria e eu achei a interação entre eles um pouco artificial. Eu sei que é apenas o primeiro trailer (mas pelo fato de ser um material promocional muito completo, com alguns detalhes muito desnecessários, aliás) eu realmente esperava ver uma conexão muito maior entre eles, mas com exceção dos aguardos retornos de Jennifer Love Hewitt e Freddie Prinze Jr. (respectivamente na pele de Julie James e Ray Bronson), ninguém se destaca. Considerando apenas o que foi mostrado no trailer, o roteiro apostará em fazer o básico, mas com nostalgia.

Me parece que esse será o filme mais violento da franquia até então, com potencial criativo (ao menos neste aspecto) de nível alto levando em consideração como a mente dos roteiristas vem evoluindo ao longo dos anos. Fazer horror e suspense com cenas violentas não é algo fácil, principalmente quando você deve misturar elementos novos na receita. Essa sequência com sabor de remake (porque a similaridade entre as estórias é gritante) pode surpreender em termos de bilheteria (mais uma vez, ponto pra nostalgia), mas acho que narrativamente, será apenas mais um entretenimento.

Movie Review - 🎬 No Hard Feelings – Comedy

Maddie thinks she's found the answer to her financial troubles when she discovers an intriguing job listing: wealthy helicopter parents looking for someone to "date" their introverted 19-year-old son, Percy, and bring him out of his shell before he leaves for college. But awkward Percy proves to be more of a challenge than she expected, and time is running out before she loses it all.

Disclaimer: Rated R for sexual content, language, some graphic nudity and brief drug use. I would not recommend this for under 18 or if you may find any of the scenes disturbing.

I have made my choice. I will see as many comedies as I can in the near future. I have too many things on my mind on a daily basis, so when I relax, I prefer to do it in a light way seeing comedies or action movies. No hard feelings

Created in 2023, but I think it is a new addition in Netflix (where I saw it) It is a solid comedy with romantic elements and funny moments and if you are into this kind of movies, I highly recommend it to you.

1 hour and 45 minutes will pass very pleasantly, with laughter, smiling and some heart - butterfly effects. It will also make you wonder about how this story will end.

Actors:

The film's star is of course Jennifer Lawrence (Maddie in the movie), a hard working barwoman & Uber driver, who has just lost her car because of debts and is about to lose her childhood home.

She is desperate and not knowing how else to handle the debt, she answers an advert, placed by wealthy parents. The deal is tempting. Maddie is asked to seduce (!) their 19 year old who is about to go to college but is too introvert, so his parents want to wake him up.

What is in for Maddie? A car! So she decides to take up the challenge.

The film blends some awkward teenage moments, surrounded by some adult humor while there is an amount of emotional language.

There are some cringe moments, and while this begins as a purely transactional relationship with Percy's ignorance, many unexpected moments come along.

The idea for the film was actually inspired by a real Craigslist ad discovered by Stupnitsky and co-writer John Phillips.

Me atrevo a decir que esta tercera temporada fue la mejor de todas. Tuvo un gran nivel de producción, efectos visuales y una trama cautivadora, además de excelentes actuaciones. Es una serie que cuenta con muchísimos personajes y cada uno es importante, a veces más y otras menos, y ninguno de estos actores me decepcionó. Cada uno cumple su papel y logra meterse en el rol de los personajes de una manera sublime.

I dare to say that this third season was the best of all. It had a great level of production, visual effects and a captivating plot, as well as excellent performances. It is a series that has many characters and each one is important, sometimes more and sometimes less, and none of these actors disappointed me. Each one fulfills their role and manages to get into the role of the characters in a sublime way.

Quedé muy sorprendida por la calidad de lo que estaba viendo, cada capítulo fue increíble, pero mi corazón se quedó con el 7 porque amo la trama de Perrin y estaba esperando su historia con Faile que me encantó como estuvo desarrollada. Así que estoy muy agradecida por eso porque era algo que quería ver desde que leí el libro. Ademas, esa batalla en Dos Rios fue muy buena. Aunque el capítulo de Rhuidean fue muy esclarecedor.

I was blown away by the quality of what I was watching, every chapter was amazing, but my heart stayed with chapter 7 because I love Perrin's plot and I was looking forward to his story with Faile which I loved how it was developed. So I'm very thankful for that because it was something I wanted to see since I read the book. Also, that battle in Dos Rios was really good. Although the Rhuidean chapter was very enlightening.

Para los que no saben, la serie está basada en una saga de libros del autor Robert Jordan y esta temporada abarca el libro 4 y algo minúsculo del 5 que recién estoy empezando a leer. Eso sí, hay bastantes cambios, sobre todo en las primeras 2 temporadas. En esta tercera se mantuvieron más fieles a la historia original, pero está todo tan bien construido que no me importa. Me encantaron los cambios que realizaron, incluso algunos me gustaron mucho más que lo que tendría que haber sucedido.

For those who don't know, the series is based on a saga of books by author Robert Jordan and this season covers book 4 and a tiny bit of book 5 which I'm just starting to read. Mind you, there are quite a few changes, especially in the first 2 seasons. In this third one they stayed more true to the original story, but it's all so well constructed that I don't mind. I loved the changes they made, I even liked some of them much better than what should have happened.

Volviendo a esta temporada, estuvo cargada de momentos épicos y batallas. Todo el sistema de magia es una belleza, yo no lo puedo creer, todavía sigo sin caer en lo que vi. Back to this season, it was full of epic moments and battles. The whole magic system is a beauty, I can't believe it, I still can't get over what I saw. It's been a long time since I've felt so satisfied watching a fantasy series. I feel it deserves more recognition because it is amazing.

Quizá en las primeras temporadas tambalea en algunos momentos, pero vale la pena llegar a la tercera para que juzguen la calidad por ustedes mismos. El crecimiento de los personajes fue super notorio y la atmósfera tensa y de peligro acompañó muy bien a la trama. Perhaps in the first few seasons it falters at times, but it's worth getting to the third season to judge the quality for yourselves. En definitiva, quedé muy conforme con lo que nos mostraron en la tercera temporada y estoy implorandole a cualquier fuerza mayor que la renueven para una 4 porque necesito seguir viendo qué pasa con estos personajes y cómo sigue esta trama tan atrapante. El final fue muy abrupto y me dejó con ganas de más, mucho más. Así que voy a confiar en que habrá más temporadas. Por lo pronto, se las recomiendo encarecidamente.

All in all, I was very happy with what we were shown in the third season and I am imploring any force majeure to renew it for a fourth season because I need to continue seeing what happens with these characters and how the plot continues to be so enthralling. The ending was very abrupt and left me wanting more, much more. So I'm going to trust that there will be more seasons. For now, I highly recommend it.

Have you ever wondered what motivates a person to become a monk, or if it was the circumstances of his life that forced him, the truth is that it is a very sacrificial, solitary lifestyle and that in past centuries was very mysterious since little was known about their customs and daily routines, with the recent culmination of Holy Week and the death of Pope Francis I felt like watching this movie The Monk, leaving me with a feeling of surprise, sadness, anger, anger and guilt, it is not easy to see because you need calm although the story fills you with anxiety because of the suspense.

When I saw it I didn't know I was watching the adaptation of an old gothic novel written by Matthew Gregory Lewis, it was first published in 1796. They wanted to make an adaptation for opera but it was objected for its scandalous content, then they made plays and it was until recently when it was taken to the movies I guess now the population is ready for this type of content, the latest version was published in 2011 and is the film that I review today, starring Vincent Cassel, written and directed by Dominik Moll.

The film begins with the confession of a man to the monk, about his desire for his niece who secretly have a relationship, the monk judges him harshly and tells him that his behavior is reprehensible, in that conversation the man asks the monk if he is not afraid of being tempted by the devil and he replies "Satan only has the power we give him" from there he already had an idea where the whole story was going, although at this point he agreed with the monk's statement.

After that, there is a backtrack in the story to show how the monk named Ambrosio arrived at the monastery, it turns out that he was abandoned by his mother, the intention was to kill him and the person who was supposed to do it repents and preferred to leave him with the monks, there he was adopted, educated and raised by the monks so his whole world was in the cold walls of big bricks of the monastery. When he came of age he became a monk and leader of the monastery because of his knowledge of the scriptures and his way of expressing himself.

After this I felt very sorry for him, his life was sad, and I really feel that he was not to blame for what he did but he has to pay, it is a bit confusing the emotions he leaves behind.

The ending is an allegory of what we think is the punishment for our sins, who are we going to be accountable to, if we sell our soul what would happen and how can we come to an agreement with Satan. Its ending is very reflective, and when it is about to end we see a seed of love. It is the struggle between good and evil, also recognizing that we are all vulnerable to sin and that we cannot judge and point fingers at others. It is very good, at first it may seem slow, take into consideration that its genre is drama and suspense, this is another movie that I would repeat in the future.

Esta escena es tan desgarradora que me costó creer que sucediera, odié Ambrosio, era el propio demonio y para completar cometió el peor de todos los crímenes no sólo violó a la joven sino también asesinó a la madre de ella que lo sorprendió, él detalle no es haya violado y matado sino lo que había en su pasado que lo conectaba a estas mujeres. Después de esto sentí mucha lástima por él, por su vida, fue triste y en realidad siento que no tuvo la culpa de lo que hizo pero tiene que pagar, es un poco confuso las emociones que deja.

El final es una alegoría de lo que pensamos es el castigo de nuestros pecados, a quien le vamos a rendir cuentas, ¿si vendemos nuestra alma que sucedería?, y cómo podemos llegar a un acuerdo con Satanás. Su final es muy reflexivo, y cuando ya va terminar se ve una semilla de amor. Es la lucha entre el bien y el mal, también de reconocer que todos somos vulnerables al pecado y que no podemos juzgar y señalar a los otros. Es muy buena, al principio puede parecer lenta, tomen en consideración que su género es el drama y el suspenso, esta es otra película que repetiría en el futuro.

After what felt like an eternity of waiting, its finally here The Last of Us has returned with its Season 2 premiere and I dont know why I totally miss when Episode 1 came out, it was not until Sunday that I saw a few videos about it so it was a twofer for me. I didn't post about it yesterday since the office was almost on fire with a lot of work that drain me out. Titled "Future Days" episode 1 starts five years after the WTF events of the Season 1 ending, episode one was very passive but does deliver a solid start for what is to come. Season 1 was full of drama and a couple of true action scenes, on Season 2 I would expect the same drama but with more action from the Infected ones, who seem to be evolving and its my speculation that eventually Ellie becomes the Queen of Blades, basically the one who can control them or communicate with them at least.

Source The episode does takes its time reintroducing us to Joel and Ellie's world, showing us how they've settled into Jackson, Wyoming and how their relationship has been on a downtrend ever since Joel rescue Ellie from the Fireflies, in my opinion a fateful decision at the hospital back then. The very first scenes shows how much their town have grown to a point that more and more people keep coming for refugee but there is not enough houses for them, Joel and his brother are trying to build as fast as they can to keep up, trying to build an environment that feels like life is coming back to normality although there is still the constant threat of the infected and human lurking.
Season 1 ending was not a quite one since a lot went down and been what the series is, all those actions going to hunt back Joel and Ellie at some point, it also shows the moment Ellie asks Joel if he was telling her all the truth about Fireflies and hhmm we know he is lying, but under that kind of circumstances who is going to judge Joel? he loves Ellie as his own daughter and this deception is most likely their relationship has almost gone down the drain, at least that's how Joel feel like. The episode then shows a new character, Abby, role played by Kaitlyn Dever, who is mourning the loss of her father and friends at the hands of Joel, all Fireflies and the Doctor who Joel head shot when taking Ellie with him. She then promise to find Joel and kill him "slowly" is for sure the biggest threat for them aside from the infected. The time jump to five years later shows us a thriving Jackson community, where Joel works as a construction foreman and Ellie has grown, she is both an exceptional fighter and shooter, she has also cover up her bite marks with a tattoo.
Source Source It was just a matter of time before infected evolve, even Zombies evolve so why not infected ones who are kinda half dead or at least less than Zombies, this new version are called stalkers, they are smarter and more strategic when it comes to attack or stay "alive", runners and clickers were more reactive than showing some sort of intelligence. The first time we see one of this is just epic with Ellie falling from a second floor into what was a Supermarket, at first I though it was a monkey but then I though, a monkey in such a cold place?. The stalker behavior is a very lurky one, almost like hunting and playing mind games with Ellie before attacking, the truth is that it didn't look like it wanted to attack to be honest, until Ellie provoke it and start screaming at it, this adds a new hole kind of danger for humans. Infected already have a tone of features and one of them is infiltrating Joel's town but having the kind that can be strategic and show some intelligence is just madness.
The series keeps doing a great job at balancing most aspects of drama and action, showing how each episode despite how slow or boring might be, turns into a gem without a doubt. You just show Joel and Ellie ignoring themself an entire episode and its already interesting to be honest, there is just something to the characters that make them special, its like they are constantly trying to be hurting someone. Pedro Pascal has shown he can deliver great acting even with a helmet on the hole time and his role as Joel is no difference, a man who is constantly hunted by his past actions and is desperate to protect the person he loves the most, even if she cant stand to be around him. The scene where Joel sits on the porch with Ellie's repaired guitar, only for her to walk past him without a word is a perfect example.

Bella Ramsey brings a perfect mix of teenage rebellion, rage and hurting to Ellie, showing how she's grown harder and more capable in the five years since the series last show her character. The training sequence where she takes down a much bigger and her confident putting down infected during patrol demonstrate her evolution as a survivor and a fighter. Season two also brings in the complex relationship between Dina and Ellie, this is for sure going to bring some awesome drama out of it, evidence of this is how Ellie write on her journal about "fucking up" their relationship.
Source Source Episode one is for sure the silence before the storm, the ending sets up multiple threats going after Joel, Ellie and Jackson. One of the first scenes show how they working on some pipelines that are all cover up with roots, at first they look all dry but if I were on their situations, roots should be a big red flag everywhere I see them. Cordyceps infection can extend roots for miles and it has found its way past the town defenses making it a somewhat easy target or at least got them on sight.
Besides the infected there is a new threat, its Abby who swore to kill Joel, he killed 18 Fireflies and specifically killed her father cold blooded, she is coming from a long way and out of luck is on Jackson door steps without knowing her target is inside. People often say "don't fear the death, fear the living ones", well that is 100% true for Joel, now been in danger from two sides, the infected ones and Abby. This hole situation creates such a doom scenario feeling at moments where there is a lot of growth within Jason, community is growing together and even celebrating special occasions in what seem to be a time of peace like New Year, part of this happiness is also felt through Ellie and Dina who had a moment and kissed at the party. During this sequence they were also criticize by a man who tells them its a family event, to what Joel didn't like how he speak to Ellie and push him just a bit too hard, creating a scene and putting Ellie on the spot light. There is also a small talk between Ellie and Dina where she says the town should be "terrified" of her, I'm sure her comment must be a reference of what would happen if everyone figures out she is immune.

The story telling of the series remains great as always, where empathy is a crucial storytelling device and it's harder to get viewers emotionally attached to characters whose motivations remain a mystery for the most part, just as an example of this is Abby between grief and desire for revenge showing that kind of moral complex conflict where I'm sure most people can understand her motives.

Overall the first episode is such a strong start for the season, I'm sure there is a part of the audience that might found it boring since there was no real action in it but the drama in my opinion was all over the place, the way the episode puts such emphasis into the new dangers both from humans and infected plays a big role on making it such a good episode, its been a long time without this type of AAA series where every single episode feels like a hit.
I can't say much about the game story adaptation since I'm not a gamer, I'm sure part of it has been adapted to TV, although on the acting department is just exception across the board with Pascal and Ramsey continue to bring depth to their characters how they just cant be happy or at least live without worries, same goes for the new characters who are immediately also falling into this world of danger, I'm so happy The Last of Us is back, with the same intensity and danger just around the corner.

El pasado domingo fue estrenado el segundo episodio de la segunda temporada de "The Last of Us" el cual se llamó "Through tne Valley" y se enfoca en acontecimientos traumáticos para todos los personajes envueltos en esta historia. Me encantó que esta serie tenga de todo. Dependiendo de la vida que le toque, el protagonista adoptará las emociones e incluso habilidades de esa persona, pudiendo conservarlas para futuras vidas. Synopsis: Past. Present. Future. All these “time incursions” are purposefully mixed together to show the lives of some families, over a few decades, using only a single room as the main setting.

Have you ever had that feeling of being completely “trapped” in a certain place (usually your own home) due to the number of years you have lived there? Maybe this is a good feeling for some people, but for others, it brings a bitter taste of confinement (even if it is full of great family moments). This is more or less the idea that the script of this movie strives to convey to the audience, but when trying to do this by inserting multiple characters through time, everything becomes very scattered and even artificial beyond measure. This movie feels like a gift wrapped in very pretty wrapping paper, but it doesn’t have much functionality.

Geek Blast

In the plot, the audience follows the routine of different families over many decades, told through just one room: a living room. Desgraciadamente, esto sólo cambia muy cerca del final de la película, donde el drama que se desarrolla en pantalla es más pesado y tiene una relevancia más sustancial respecto de lo que ya se había construido hasta entonces dentro de este drama familiar “secular”. El resto del reparto es superficial o débil y esto demuestra hasta qué punto la película (que dura un poco más de 90 minutos, pero parece mucho más larga) merecía más atención.

Esto no dificulta en absoluto la comprensión de la trama (que solo se centra en una sola familia), pero ciertamente afecta directamente a la conexión con el público, que no puede encontrar tiempo para sentir mayor empatía por lo que viven los personajes. El aspecto dramático de la película y la dinámica elegida para contar la historia son geniales, pero la ejecución es cansadora, desordenada y poco funcional. Hay algunos momentos más conmovedores, pero en general este proyecto se siente como un gran mosaico de retazos.

Me sorprendió negativamente ver a un director como Robert Zemeckis dirigiendo esta película (que, por cierto, también ayudó a escribir). No parece estar en su mejor momento como director (ni siquiera como guionista), y aquí me pareció que estaba haciendo un trabajo cualquiera, sin tanto compromiso como suele hacer. No es su peor trabajo, pero ciertamente no está a la altura de su potencial como director y guionista. A veces parece simplemente perdido, juntando las piezas de un rompecabezas que ciertamente no encaja (todos los elementos están en la pantalla, pero simplemente parecen pertenecer a películas con temas muy “diferentes”).

En esencia, Aquí se trata de una película dramática (con algunos breves toques de comedia) que tenía mucho más potencial para entregar algo más emocionante e innovador dentro de la propuesta elegida (y aquí cabe mencionar todas las partes técnicas de la película que involucran la escenografía, porque el trabajo en este aspecto fue sensacional... con un destaque para la edición de escenas también), pero terminó pecando por el exceso de CGI (sobre todo en el rejuvenecimiento del elenco de peso, en este caso... Hanks y Wright, porque suena a algo "fake") y por no ahondar en sus propios dilemas. Aunque plantea temas importantes para la reflexión de cualquier familia, no hay suficiente espacio para discutir nada.

CRÍTICA DE FILME: “Aqui” (2024)

Sinopse: Passado. Presente. Futuro. Todas essas “incursões temporais” são propositalmente misturadas para mostrar à vida de algumas famílias, ao longo de algumas décadas, usando apenas um único cômodo como um cenário principal.

Você já teve aquela sensação de se sentir totalmente “preso” a algum determinado lugar (em geral, à sua própria casa) pela quantidade de anos que você já viveu nele? Talvez, essa seja uma sensação boa para algumas pessoas, mas para outras pessoas, isso traz um gosto amargo de confinamento (ainda que seja recheado de ótimos momentos familiares). Essa é a mais ou menos a ideia que a raiz do roteiro deste filme se esforça para entregar ao público, mas ao tentar fazer isso com a inserção de múltiplos personagens através do tempo, tudo fica muito disperso e até artificial além da conta. Esse filme parece um presente embalado num papel de presente muito bonito, mas que não tem muita funcionalidade.

Na trama, o público acompanha a rotina de diferentes famílias ao longo de muitas décadas sendo contada através de apenas um único cômodo: uma sala de estar. Misturando o peso de um passado (e aqui eu me refiro a uma volta até a “inusitada” época jurássica... o que se torna um demasiado exagero dentro da própria proposta do roteiro), com tudo o que acontece no presente (onde o roteiro prende o seu foco, obviamente) e a visão do futuro como ele é hoje (apenas algumas poucas cenas que não tem peso bem relevante), o roteiro constrói sua trama desconexa e até sem identidade por não conseguir criar um elo mais forte mesmo tenho uma estória basal tão “bem fundamentada” através do tempo.

O que começa como uma ideia interessante (em especial no começo do filme, quando as primeiras cenas já “definem” o que o público deve esperar do que vem em seguida ao apostar em uma grande mistura de elementos transicionais de visualização confusa e cheia de detalhes que podem ser facilmente não percebidos por telespectadores desatentos) logo se torna em um elemento técnico cansativo de ser visto pelo excesso de aplicabilidade nas cenas (mas que tende a ser funcional dentro do roteiro porque a dinâmica do filme é construída sobre os fundamentos mais “convergentes”, e que também são “sabotados” pela transposição de ideias, que se sobrepõe em excesso quase que a todo momento).

Uma vez que esse recurso começa a ser usado a exaustão, não há como criar uma melhor conexão com os personagens (nem mesmo com os protagonistas). O elenco tem como nomes principais Tom Hanks e Robin Wright, mas ambos têm personagens “monocromáticos” e muito desinteressantes na maior parte do tempo. Infelizmente, isso só muda muito perto do final do filme, onde o drama que é jogado na tela é mais pesado e tem uma relevância mais substancial para o que já vinha sendo construído até então dentro desse drama familiar “secular”. Uma parte dessa culpa é do roteiro, porque tudo é muito linear dentro de todos as situações que se propôs a discutir (o que aliás, acabou sendo feito de uma maneira muito rápida e quase sempre de tom “opaco”, mesmo quando havia espaço para uma abordagem mais intensa). Paul Bettany é um nome no elenco de apoio que se destaca, mas não por fazer algo de incrível, mas simplesmente por fazer o básico dentro de algo mediano (o que acaba não sendo nada complexo, porque a divisão da trama entre os personagens é altamente desproporcional).

As idas e vindas na linha temporal da estória de cada família é confusa, e isso torna o roteiro em uma experiência que às vezes é algo enfadonho de ser acompanhado. Isso não atrapalha em nada a compreensão da trama (que fica apenas concentrada em uma única família), mas com certeza afeta diretamente na conexão com o público, que não tem como encontrar tempo para sentir uma maior empatia pelo que os personagens estão vivenciando. O aspecto dramático do filme e a dinâmica escolhida para contar a estória são ótimos, mas a execução é cansativa, bagunçada e não-funcional. Existem alguns momentos mais tocantes, mas no aspecto geral, esse projeto soa como uma grande colcha de retalhos.

Eu fiquei negativamente surpreso em ver um diretor como Robert Zemeckis dirigindo este filme (que aliás, ele mesmo também ajudou a escrever). Nem de longe ele parece estar na sua melhor forma como diretor (e nem como roteirista), e aqui me pareceu fazendo um trabalho qualquer, sem tanto comprometimento como ele costuma fazer. Não é o pior trabalho dele, mas com certeza é algo que não faz ao potencial dele enquanto diretor e roteirista. Em alguns momentos ele simplesmente parece estar perdido aqui, juntando as peças de um quebra-cabeças que certamente não se encaixa (todos os elementos estão na tela, mas simplesmente parecem pertencer a filmes com temáticas muito “diferentes”).

Na sua essência, Aqui é um filme dramático (com alguns breves toques de comédia) que tinha muito mais potencial de entregar algo mais emocionante e inovador dentro da proposta escolhida (e aqui vale à pena mencionar todas as partes técnicas do filme que envolvem a cenografia, porque o trabalho nesse aspecto foi sensacional... com um destaque para a edição de cenas também), mas acabou pecando pelo excesso de CGI (em especial no rejuvenescimento do elenco de peso, neste caso... Hanks e Wright, porque soa como algo “fake”) e por não mergulhar dentro de seus próprios dilemas. Embora traga temas importantes para reflexão de qualquer família, não há espaço suficiente para discutir sobre nada.

I saw this movie a couple of years after its release. The good reviews caught my attention and I found it an interesting film. It is independent cinema. Shot with a very low budget, unknown actors for the time, and where Sean Baker was in charge of practically everything. Operator, script, direction, editing, photography, casting, I'm sure he even looked for the wardrobe.

What caught the attention of many at the time, is that the film was shot entirely with Iphone cell phones, specifically with the model 5. Obviously the color was modified in the post-production process, but the fact that Iphone was used grabbed headlines in some film portals.

The use of smartphones of the manzanita brand, gives it an almost documentary style. A style that the director had already shown with Take Out, which I will write about soon and also another that I have yet to see. The Prince of Broadway. It is this documentary air that gives more realism to his scenes, as well as a very dirty texture.

Vi esta película un par de años después de su estreno. Las buenas críticas me llamaron la atención y me pareció una película interesante. Es cine independiente. Rodada con muy bajo presupuesto, actores desconocidos para la época, y donde Sean Baker se encargó prácticamente de todo. Operador, guión, dirección, montaje, fotografía, casting, seguro que hasta buscó el vestuario.

Lo que llamó la atención de muchos en su momento, es que la película fue rodada íntegramente con moviles Iphone, concretamente con el modelo 5. Evidentemente el color se modificó en el proceso de postproducción, pero el hecho de que se utilizara Iphone acaparó titulares en algunos portales de cine.

El uso de smartphones de la marca de la manzanita, le da un estilo casi documental. Un estilo que el director ya había mostrado con Take Out, de la que escribiré próximamente y también de otra que tengo pendiente de ver. El príncipe de Broadway. Es ese aire documental el que le da más realismo a sus escenas, a la vez que una textura muy sucia.

Set in a city that many associate with glamour, fame and show business, what we see is the shit. Marginal areas and characters. Sleazy businesses, streets of drug dealers, alleys where prostitution is practiced. Everything that a tourist is NOT going to photograph to show off on social networks. It is a constant in the films of this filmmaker and in all of them he does it with great respect, he does not pretend to judge his characters, nor their professions, nor their mistakes. He shows them with their virtues and defects, letting them live, because they are beings who also have aspirations, dreams, looking for a happiness that seems to flee them.

Sad lives. A lot of sadness is transmitted in his characters. They are the losers, the excluded. African-American transsexual prostitutes are the two main characters. Without Dee, who has just been released from prison and when she asks her best friend about her boyfriend, she discovers that he has been unfaithful with another prostitute, a biological woman. This fact triggers the whole plot of the film, as she will look for the unfortunate woman who slept with her man, not realizing that the problem is her boyfriend, who is a pimp.

Alexandra, the other transsexual prostitute, who dreams of being a successful singer and invites everyone to her performance that night, where she will receive the blow of reality, realizing that in the city of dreams, not all of them come true.

Razmik, is another character, with a subplot that intersects with the main one, is an Armenian immigrant who works as a cab driver and loves to hire transsexual prostitutes. He has a wife and children, as well as a nagging mother-in-law, one of those who seem to detest him. What little we see of him conveys that he is trapped in a life he doesn't want.

Although dramatic at its core, the plot presents hilarious situations. There is energy and fast pacing in some of the funnier moments. The sequence in the cafeteria with all the characters present is hilarious. A delightful film that, following the filmmaker's style, shows us ugliness in a beautiful way.

Ambientada en una ciudad que muchos asocian con el glamour, la fama y el espectáculo, lo que vemos es la mierda. Zonas y personajes marginales. Negocios de mala muerte, calles de traficantes, callejones donde se ejerce la prostitución. Todo lo que un turista NO va a fotografiar para presumir en las redes sociales. Es una constante en las películas de este cineasta y en todas ellas lo hace con mucho respeto, no pretende juzgar a sus personajes, ni sus profesiones, ni sus errores. Los muestra con sus virtudes y defectos, dejándolos vivir, porque son seres que también tienen aspiraciones, sueños, buscando una felicidad que parece huirles.

Vidas tristes. Se transmite mucha tristeza en sus personajes. Son los perdedores, los excluidos. Las prostitutas transexuales afroamericanas son las dos protagonistas. Sin Dee, que acaba de salir de la cárcel y cuando pregunta a su mejor amiga por su novio, descubre que éste le ha sido infiel con otra prostituta, una mujer biológica. Este hecho desencadena toda la trama de la película, ya que ella buscará a la desgraciada que se acostó con su hombre, sin darse cuenta de que el problema es su novio, que es un proxeneta.

Alexandra, la otra prostituta transexual, que sueña con ser una cantante de éxito e invita a todos a su actuación de esa noche, donde recibirá el golpe de la realidad, dándose cuenta de que en la ciudad de los sueños, no todos se hacen realidad.

Razmik, es otro de los personajes, con una subtrama que se cruza con la principal, es un inmigrante armenio que trabaja como taxista y le encanta contratar prostitutas transexuales. Tiene mujer e hijos, además de una suegra regañona, de esas que parecen detestarle. Lo poco que vemos de él transmite estar atrapado en una vida que no desea.

Dramática en el fondo, la trama presenta situaciones hilarantes. Hay energía y ritmo trepidante en algunos de los momentos más graciosos. La secuencia en la cafetería con todos los personajes presentes es divertidísima. Una película deliciosa que siguiendo el estilo del cineasta nos muestra la fealdad de una manera hermosa.
