   Hello my dear friends at The Anime Realm, I want to ask you something: Was the wait for Adi Shankar's Devil May Cry worth it? Absolutely. Seven years of mystery and delays were worth it. Ever since the mastermind behind the acclaimed Castlevania anime announced he would adapt Capcom's iconic franchise, Devil May Cry fans have kept their expectations sky-high and their fingers crossed. The first season on Netflix finally arrived with eight adrenaline-fueled episodes, rhythmic gunfights, and unfinished pizzas, proving that the most arrogant demon hunter in video games knows how to own the small screen.

Siete años de misterio y retrasos valieron la pena. Desde que la mente maestra detrás del aclamado anime de Castlevania anunció que adaptaría la icónica franquicia de Capcom, los fans de Devil May Cry mantuvimos las expectativas por las nubes y los dedos cruzados.    Visually, the series is a dynamic delight thanks to Studio Mir's work, which perfectly captures the essence of the game's hack-and-slash combat: that exaggerated, almost choreographed fluidity where Dante humiliates his enemies before delivering the final blow. Johnny Yong Bosch's voice acting as Dante is also fantastic, perfectly capturing his nonchalant attitude while subtly hinting at the emotional weight of his past.

   Visualmente, la serie es un deleite dinámico gracias al trabajo de Studio Mir ya que logra capturar la esencia del combate hack and slash del juego: esa fluidez exagerada y casi coreográfica donde Dante humilla a sus enemigos antes de darles el golpe de gracia. A su vez, la interpretación de Johnny Yong Bosch como la voz de Dante es fantástica, ya que le da ese tono perfecto de "no me importa nada" y deja entrever el peso emocional de su pasado.

   

   This new version is one of my favorites for many reasons: first, the visual effects; second, the music chosen for each episode; third, Dante's personality, which evolves with each episode. He's not a flat character without a backstory; rather, he has a past that haunts him, and that resonates with the fans. Fourth, the villains that appear throughout the series, especially the White Rabbit, who seems to have stepped out of a demonic wonderland, and so many other aspects I could mention.

This layer of narrative maturity perfectly balances the frenetic action sequences.

   Of course, nods to old-school fans abound. From the imposing presence of the Force Edge sword to the spectacular opening sequence set to Limp Bizkit's "Rollin'," the series breathes the rebellious, heavy energy of the 2000s that gave birth to the video game. Moreover, the pace never falters; the season marches steadily toward a brutal climax that lays the foundation for the mythology of the Sparda universe and the fearsome King of the Underworld, Mundus.

   The first season of Devil May Cry works for both the veteran gamer looking for faithful gameplay and spectacular combos, and the casual anime viewer who enjoys a good urban dark fantasy story. It's not perfect, but it oozes so much attitude and style that it's impossible not to binge-watch it. If you're looking for a series with an electrifying soundtrack, mind-blowing animation, and an extremely charismatic protagonist, do yourself a favor and hit play on Netflix.

   La primera temporada de Devil May Cry funciona tanto para el jugador veterano que busca fidelidad y combos espectaculares, como para el espectador casual de anime que disfruta de una buena historia de fantasía oscura urbana. No es perfecta, pero derrocha tanta actitud y estilo que es imposible no maratonearla.      Saludos estimados Otakus de #TheAnimeRealm. Hace poco me recomendaron ver una serie de animé que me cautivó por quien cantaba una de sus canciones, se trata de Devil May Cry y pues, como el tema musical pertenecía a mi grupo de rock favorito Evanescence, sí o sí tenía que darle una oportunidad y aún mejor, prioridad.

     Greetings, fellow Otakus of #TheAnimeRealm. I was recently recommended to watch an anime series that captivated me because of who sang one of its songs, it's Devil May Cry, and well, since the theme song belonged to my favorite rock group, Evanescence, I absolutely had to give it a chance, and even better, a priority.

   

   

   **𝙴𝚜𝚙𝚊ñ𝚘𝚕**

   

   De entrada te digo que es una obra maestra, al menos esta versión del año 2025. Lamentablemente no he visto las temporadas anteriores, pero luego de ver esta, definitivamente me pondré al día con las demás esperando su segunda temporada, con esta especie de conejo salido del País de las Maravillas.

   **𝙴𝚗𝚕𝚐𝚒𝚜𝚑**

   

   I'll tell you right off the bat that it's a masterpiece, at least this 2025 version. Unfortunately, I haven't seen the previous seasons, but after watching this one, I'll definitely catch up on the others, eagerly awaiting the second season, with this sort of rabbit straight out of Wonderland.

   

   El personaje de Dante al inicio me pareció algo extravagante y me hubiera gustado que lo hubieran hecho un poco más serio, pero conforme pasaban los capítulos, pues me cautivó el protagonista a tal punto de robarme el corazón.

   At first, I found Dante's character somewhat eccentric, and I would have liked them to make him a little more serious, but as the chapters went by, the protagonist captivated me to the point of stealing my heart.

   

   Al parecer me enamoro fácilmente de personajes ficticios y Dante no escapó de ello. Su extravagancia y querer vivir su vida siempre al límite cazando demonios hicieron que lo amara cada vez más.

   I seem to fall in love with fictional characters easily, and Dante was no exception. His eccentricity and desire to live life on the edge, hunting demons, made me love him more and more.

   

   Esto porque se preocupaba por el bienestar de los demás a tal punto de poner su vida en riesgo hasta que sucedió algo increíble con él y quedé con la boca abierta en pleno episodio. Esto me atrapó aún más en la trama y me hizo querer terminarla de ver el mismo día.

   This is because he cared so much for the well-being of others that he risked his own life, until something incredible happened to him that left me speechless during the episode. This drew me even further into the story and made me want to finish watching it that same day.

   

   El toque extra entre la relación que desarrollaron por muy poco con Dante y con Mary estuvo espectacular, fue una de las cosas que más me gustó. Se nota que tienen química y no sólo por odio puro, sino que se vislumbra algo más entre ellos.

   The extra touch in the relationship they barely developed with Dante and with Mary was spectacular; it was one of the things I liked most. You can tell they have chemistry, and not just out of pure hatred, but you can see something more between them.

   

   También me agradó el hecho de que ambos personajes tuvieran infancias difíciles. Bueno, no sólo los protagonistas sino también el villano de esta increíble serie.

   I also appreciated that both characters had difficult childhoods. Well, not just the protagonists, but also the villain of this amazing series.

   

   Ver cómo capítulo tras capítulo trae sorpresas conforme avanza la serie, es uno de los aspectos más fuertes, a mi parecer, que gustaron al público, o mejor dicho, a sus fans.

   Seeing how each chapter brings surprises as the series progresses is one of the strongest aspects, in my opinion, that appealed to the public, or rather, to its fans.

   

   La banda sonora elegida en cada escena de cada capítulo no puede dejarse de nombrar ya que resaltó por sí sola como si fuera un personaje principal. Uff, esto también le dio un toque único y con clase porque cada canción me trasladó a mi adolescencia.

   The soundtrack chosen for each scene of each episode deserves special mention; it stood out almost as if it were a main character. Wow, it also gave it a unique and classy touch because every song transported me back to my teenage years.

   

   Además que cada canción iba acorde a los movimientos de cada personaje y no sólo eso, iba acorde a la escena que se desarrollaba, es decir, la letra de la canción describía como anillo al dedo la situación en sí. Era fascinante de ver y escuchar.

   Furthermore, each song perfectly matched the movements of each character, and not only that, but it also perfectly complemented the scene unfolding; in other words, the lyrics of the song described the situation like a glove. It was fascinating to watch and listen to.

   

   En conclusión, Devil May Cry del año 2025 tiene tanto potencial que me invita a verla de nuevo y más aún a querer buscar sus primeras versiones para ser parte de la gran cantidad de fans que tiene esta serie a nivel mundial. De mi parte le otorgo sus 5 estrellas completas.

   In conclusion, the 2025 Devil May Cry has so much potential that it makes me want to watch it again, and even more so, seek out the earlier versions to join the huge number of fans this series has worldwide. I give it a full 5 stars.

   I hope everyone is doing well. Today I bring you a recommendation and review of an anime I watched about 3 months ago and introspectively liked quite a bit. It's pretty short with only 8 episodes, but it's set to have multiple seasons.

   This anime is called Devil May Cry and is based on an anime game series of the same name. While it certainly doesn't faithfully follow the Lore of the game, it can be somewhat understood as a reinterpretation of Dante's story.

   Dante not only has to deal with the White Rabbit and his band of demons but also with the government who apparently knows of the existence of the demons (existence hidden from the public) who has a group of demon hunters led by the cruel, manipulative and cunning Vice President of the U.S. who runs the government from the shadows and through the President of the United States who serves more in my opinion as the “nice” face in command.

   It all comes down to hunting and being hunted, while sooner rather than later the gates of hell are opening wider and wider and the most powerful demons are ready to make their appearance. Meanwhile, of course, the government makes its own plans, revealing that sometimes humans are worse than demons. Dante must learn to accept his heritage if he is to fight his enemies and save what little he has left in the world, face uncomfortable truths and fight even those he loves.

   Dante is a quintessential anti-hero who just wants to leave the past behind, and the White Rabbit is a crazed and enigmatic terrorist who seeks to unite the human world with the demonic one, will they both achieve what they set out to do?

   I really liked the character of the White Rabbit as the representation of chaos and the breakdown of “order”, his madness and motivations are more of a critique than an insane desire for domination and his name to my mind is the abandonment of all logic as well as the descent into an unknown world, like the white rabbit in Alice in Wonderland. The series also touches on issues such as immigration and other social problems in the form of a demonic invasion.

   Now, although the series takes elements from the manga and the games, as I said in the beginning, it deviates from the canon to tell a story of its own. For those who haven't played the game or read the manga I don't think it's a problem. The animation is very good and the battles are visually amazing. It should be added that for some the series may be a bit grotesque because it has sequences with a lot of blood, but I think they add an excellent touch to the story.

   Me gustó mucho el personaje del Conejo Blanco como la representación del caos y la ruptura del “orden”, su locura y motivaciones son más una crítica que un deseo insano de dominación y su nombre a mi parecer es el abandono de toda lógica así como el descenso a un mundo desconocido, como el conejo blanco de Alicia en el país de las maravillas. La serie también toca temas como la inmigración y otros problemas sociales desde la forma de una invasión demoniaca.

   Ahora bien, aunque la serie toma elementos del manga y los juegos, como dije en un inicio, se desvía del canon para contar una historia propia. Para quienes no han jugado el juego o leído el manga no creo que sea un problema. La animación es muy buena y las batallas son visualmente increíbles. Cabe agregar que para algunos la serie puede ser algo grotesca porque tiene secuencias con mucha sangre, pero creo que le dan un toque excelente a la historia.

   Soon enough, I'll have all the free time in the world to watch all the anime on my to-watch list. I have a long list of anime that I compiled a long time ago. I have not really been able to watch anime as much as I wanted over the past few months. I had other priorities, and I knew if I started watching anime, I would lose focus. But now, I'm a free bird. I remember coming across an interesting reel on Instagram (my favorite go-to platform when it comes to searching for anime recommendations) about a seemingly interesting anime. The reel was only about one minute long, but it was still able to pique my interest. I checked the comment section and luckily, someone mentioned the title: Devil May Cry. 

   Devil May Cry has been on my to-watch list for about one month now. Interestingly, I had the chance to use free wi-fi today, so I downloaded it. Devil May Cry is a dark fantasy anime, loaded with mystery, action and adventure. If you're the type that enjoys watching a lot of action (shootings, bombings and good fights), then this anime is for you. I will try as much as I can not to reveal spoilers in this post because I enjoyed watching this anime and I want you to enjoy it without spoilers.

   As I mentioned above, Devil May Cry has just 8 episodes and that is one of the reasons why you'll enjoy watching it. The anime is set in the period where demons invaded the world. To maintain balance and peace, demon hunters have to fight demons, particularly the white rabbit, whose goal is to open the gates of hell so other demons would come into the world. You would think that the White Rabbit is a pure evil character and that he wants to destroy the human realm. However, there is more to his story. The White Rabbit reminds me of my favorite character from Naruto, Itachi. From the outside, some characters may seem like villains, but deep down, they are soft. While some care about achieving peace in their own ways, others want to create a new world where they can live freely with their loved ones. 

   The White Rabbit also fits into the definition of the phrase, “Villains are made not born.” I totally enjoyed watching this anime and I think you should also give it a try. Although the characters develop too quickly, the plot is not bad at all. Generally, it is a very nice anime and I'm sure you'll enjoy watching it.

   Dante is a charismatic protagonist, trust me he will never disappoint you. My niece knows about my taste for over-the-top fight scenes that's the reason she advised me to watch the trailer to be interested. This trailer is best in every possible way.    The first thing I would like to mention is that they did a great job with the music. I got pumped up every time there was a fight scene, as I could feel the adrenaline rush. The look of Dante and his cool, edgy voice is much expected from the son of Sparda. Moreover, Rabbit is a good antagonist who shows no mercy; he is obviously an outstanding villain. What was lacking is that they portrayed some of the other demons as not being powerful at all; they were weaklings. Also, they made them sound more like humans. Anyway, the transformation of Dante into demon form was fabulous. I didn't find any shortcomings in the animation; it was perfect.

   Even though many said they didn't like the series, maybe because it kind of felt off as Lady's character arc was a little overbearing to the plot, I felt the same. Otherwise, everything was good. If it's your first attempt to watch this series, then I think you would like it just like I did. Most of the people who are disappointed have watched this anime before in a different version, and there's also a game, so people have high hopes for it. But as a first-time watcher, I have liked it so far.

   A few weeks ago I finished watching the new anime adaptation of one of the best video games of the Hack and Slash genre, which is: Devil May Cry, the saga starring Dante, a white-haired half-human half-demon who has a great personality, full of sarcasm and cool moments. I heard that a new animated series adaptation of this saga was in development quite some time ago, but after reading about it I was never interested in looking for more information about this new "anime" and I didn't get any information about it either. Therefore, I was not aware of the various statements that the creator of this new adaptation was giving and much less, I knew of the news that came out of the series before its premiere, so logically I did not find out that this new Devil May Cry anime had already been released until after it was released a week later and the way I found out about this was via TikTok, as I found several edits of the series while I was browsing that app.

   

   
   

   I think that many people, like me, had our first encounter with this saga with the third game, where we see a younger Dante, inexperienced with anything related to demons, a more savage, sarcastic Dante, who is just beginning to understand his true nature. Part of the series takes that plot of a "young and inexperienced Dante", but it also takes many elements from the other games of the saga and even from the novels and some memes that were born after the fifth game of the saga.    Hace unas semanas que termine de ver la nueva adaptación a anime de unos de los mejores videojuegos del género Hack and Slash, el cual es: Devil May Cry, la saga protagonizada por Dante, un humano mitad demonio de pelo blanco que tiene una gran personalidad, lleno de sarcasmos y momentos geniales. Me enteré que estaba en desarrollo una nueva adaptación a serie animada de esta saga hace bastante tiempo, pero luego de haber leído sobre eso más nunca me interesó por buscar más información de este nuevo “anime” y tampoco me salía información sobre eso. Por lo tanto, no estuve al tanto de las varias declaraciones que estaba dando el creador de esta nueva adaptación y mucho menos, supe de las noticias que salieron de la serie antes de su estreno, por lo que lógicamente no me enteré que ya se había estrenado este nuevo anime de Devil May Cry sino fue luego de haber sino estrenada una semana después y la forma en como me enteré de esto fue via TikTok, ya que me encontré varios edits de la serie mientras me encontraba navegando por esa app.

   

   
   

   Creo que muchas personas al igual que yo, tuvimos nuestro primer encuentro con esta saga con el tercer juego, donde vemos a un Dante mas joven, inexperto ante cualquier cosa relacionada con los demonios, un Dante mas salvaje, sarcástico y que apenas va a ir entendiendo su verdadera naturaleza. Parte de la serie toma ese argumento de un “Dante joven e inexperto”, pero además, toma muchos elementos de los otros juegos de la saga e incluso de las novelas y de alguno que otro meme que nacio luego del quinto juego de la saga. Personalmente me gusto, no es una serie que me haya cautivado ni me haya dejado totalmente en shock por lo buena que es, pero es un producto decente que vale la pena ver, porque está lleno de acción de principio a fin, es una serie que no teme a mostrar momentos de violencia cruda y sangrienta, algo que encaja muy bien con todo lo referente a Devil May Cry.

   

   
   

   Quizas la serie peca un poco en meter elementos de otros juegos un poco exagerado, como la aparion en forma de cameo de algunos personajes, los cuales no aportan nada a la historia, aunque quizas lo hagan en próximas temporadas, ya que si no me equivoco ya fue anunciada una segunda temporada, lo cual no me sorprende, ya que en términos generales es una buena serie. Pero el punto mas polémico de esta serie es que, creador (el creador de la serie) dijo que esta nueva adaptación serie totalmente canon a lo visto en la saga principal de los videojuegos, algo que seria totalmente falso ya que hay varios elementos de la serie que nos hace entender que se trata de un producto totalmente nuevo, un reinicio de la historia de Dante que toma los elementos de los 5 juegos principales (especialmente elementos del tercer juego) y los junta creando asi un nuevo reinicio de la historia de Dante desde una perspectiva mas enfocada en Lady.

   Siendo Lady a la vez, un personaje a los que muchas personas no les gusto como fue adaptada en este nuevo anime, ya que mucha gente y yo incluido, consideramos que aunque la Lady del tercer juego, que es donde la conocemos por primera vez, cuenta con elementos característicos de la Lady de Netflix, creo que en esta adaptación la hicieron más exagerada de lo que ya era en su inicio. Repito, es una serie muy entretenida, cuenta con una banda sonora espectacular, donde se puede escuchar música de Limp Bizkit, Evanescence o Papa Roach, una decisión musical bastante acertada para el Dante joven de esta serie. Yo espero ver una segunda temporada pero también espero una mejora en el desarrollo de personajes como los de Lady y que no metan tantos elementos “Estadounidenses” en la serie, ya que gran parte de ella se sintió como el meme de “Amarica Fuck Yeah” y eso es algo que no me gustó demasiado. Pero en términos generales y pese a la polémica me parece que es una serie que puede entretener muchas personas que le gusta esta saga de videojuegos, pero lo vas a disfrutar más si ves la serie teniendo en cuenta que es un reinicio de la historia y nada es canon.

   Seems Netflix has been it for me this week, for immediately after the Castlevania Series I stepped into this other video game adaptation that has been on the hot rails of every media outlet since its release. I didn't plan to download it immediately, nor did I even think I'll watch it till maybe August, but a friend had it and since I sent some anime to her she decided to send this one to me and that's just how it happened...

   *** ### Plot > When Dante, a professional demon hunter gets a bounty on his head for his crystal pendant. He fights against both human and monsters to keep his promise to his mother and save the world from the clutches of Makai, otherwise known as hell. *** This particular Netflix show is quite a small one of just 10 episodes. An easy watch by all means, hell, I was done with it in just one afternoon. Despite it's small run-time, it is incredibly entertaining, leaving you with a lot of moments you won't easily forget.  I would like to start this review with what I hated most. And that would be her...  Mary Anne Arkham, known as lieutenant by most, lady by Dante and biggest fool by me. It seemed that every inch of screentime she had on this show was to do something so stupid and annoying that you'll shrink back from second hand embarrassment on her part.  I get that in every show there's that one character that takes the audience hate but she was doing too good of a job in it. For why is a lieutenant making such rookie mistakes. How can she allow her hatred blind her so, how much pride do you need in your head before it changes your eye colors?  And all for what? So the Easter Bunny can just put you back in your place? Poor showing of a demon hunter.  On that note let me go to my and almost everyone's favorite character. The Easter Bunny!!!  _{(No chocolate eggs to be expected from this one)} *** When you're talking about Aura Farming, this bunny shows us that villains can have cool backdrop moments too.  I have to say. I do believe with this bunny, even more so after seeing the ending of this show. The idea of the ending not really being the ending was clear, but alas that ending wasn't something I ever predicted and it goes even further in showing that the bunny was right about the nature of humans.  This show was short yes but the animation was dope!! Not as cool as Castlevania because it was mostly guns used but still this animation is one you'd easily smile at.  To be honest, about this show there's a lot to be happy about despite that Lady who dampens the mood everytime she's on screen. The other characters are a total vibe too like Emzo Ferino and the others. In summary it's a lovely show that I totally recommend, a full 9/8 from me.✨

One day, Dante is attacked in his shop by Trish, a woman disturbingly similar to his late mother, after Dante demonstrates his power, she tells him that the previous attack was meant to test him and that Mundus, the demon king that Dante's father had sealed 2000 years ago, had escaped from his prison, so she needed his help to defeat him once and for all. After this they head to the castle on the island of Mallet, where all the events of the game take place. As the game unfolds, details about Dante's life and past are revealed, as well as the mysterious figure of Trish.

    To be honest, Devil May Cry isn't exactly a game with a brilliant story; in fact, this first game is particularly forgettable in terms of its story, although this is understandable considering it was a purely experimental title. What made Devil May Cry a success was its gameplay, which as I said before, revolutionized the beat-em-up genre and turned it into what we know today as hack-and-slash.

    The game is mostly based on advancing through the stages by defeating enemies with Dante's weapons and abilities. At the beginning of the game we will have at our disposal a giant sword called "Alastor" and the trusty Ebony & Ivory, Dante's characteristic guns, as we advance in the plot we will get more weapons and abilities; for example: a shotgun, Ifrit, a pair of gauntlets with the power of the flames of hell, and the Devil Trigger. The Devil Trigger is Dante's transformation into a demon; this transformation gives him extra strength and speed, as well as restoring his health while in this form.

    With this combination of weapons we will chain combos to our enemies to increase our style meter. The style meter is a dynamic that Devil May Cry introduced for the first time, and this consists of a meter that will increase according to our performance in battle, the basic parameters to increase the meter are: not taking damage and varying combos. That means, if we are hit in a fight our style meter will reset, and if we are constantly doing the same moves, the meter will hardly increase. This encourages the player to constantly experiment with the combos and possibilities offered by Dante's abilities.

    ^{Dante's Devil Trigger}

    The way to advance in the game is through a system of linear missions (I like to think of this more like levels), by completing mission 1 we will advance to mission 2, and so on. The entire plot of the game takes place in the castle on Mallet Island and although we visit different locations in each mission, there are also others where we will return to locations we have previously visited. The game also has elements of exploration and puzzles, it can be said that this is the "heritage" that it kept from Resident Evil.

    Usually, you have to find some specific item to advance or solve a puzzle, although unlike RE, the puzzles here are much simpler to solve and exploration is even more linear, this is obviously due to the focus on action. At the end of each mission we will receive a style score based on our performance in it, this score goes from SSS grade (the highest) to D grade (the lowest), and very similar to combat, this grade will be defined by: the total damage we have received in the mission, the time in which we have completed it, if we used any help items (these reduce the total score), and of course how much style we had when fighting. All of this may sound simple or even something we would expect nowadays, but the truth is that for its time it was quite revolutionary and motivated you to replay missions and do your best to get the highest score possible.

    ^{As for the difficulty, I think it's very well balanced. The first time I played it, about 15 years ago, I found it challenging and died a couple of times in several boss fights, however after you begin to understand and master the combat system not only becomes easier to play but satisfying; Dante is incredibly powerful and that is portrayed wonderfully when controlling him, every move is beautiful and the response feels very accomplished, it makes you want to play over and over to dominate each and every one of the enemies in the game. Visiting it again after so many years and with much more experience I found it much easier on Normal and Hard, but the Dante Must Die difficulty is still a challenge for newcomers or veterans of this type of game.}

    I remember that what attracted me to this franchise was the cool aspect that Dante had, and I think that's what defines Devil May Cry the most, a game that while not perfect, has all the elements to make you spend incredible and fun moments. Before writing all this I watched a video that talked about what makes Devil May Cry so special, and it's that it's a saga that around so many games with such heavy and intimate narratives that touch on such complex themes, DMC it's not to be taken so seriously. It's not a story that aims to change your life through an existentialist dilemma, it simply wants you to sit down and play and feel like the most badass demon hunter in gaming history, and do it in style of course.

    Una de las franquicias más emblemáticas en la historia de los videojuegos es Resident Evil, saga que definió el survival horror en el gaming y que inspiró a muchas otras, pero, ¿quién diría que de esta saga saldría el que hoy en día podemos llamar como el padre del Hack-and-Slash? Si, el origen de Devil May Cry está directamente relacionado con Resident Evil ya que este originalmente se planteó como la cuarta entrega de la saga de zombis, curioso, ¿no? Es difícil pensar en qué momento Capcom pasó del survival horror a los combates desenfrenados contra demonios, pero lo cierto con todo esto es que Devil May Cry es un experimento que creó su propio género y al luego se unirían otros juegos como God of War, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, etc. Y demás está decir que las aventuras del caza recompensas/caza demonios Dante se convirtieron en una de las franquicias más queridas por los videojugadores (incluyéndome) alrededor del mundo, que abarcan 5 juegos en su línea principal, un spin-off, un anime, y multiples apariciones y colaboraciones en otros videojuegos.

    Después del lanzamiento de Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, y con la nueva generación de consolas en el mercado, era el momento de que Capcom continuara con Resident Evil. Shinji Mikami, quién hasta ahora había estado encargado de todos los proyectos de Resident Evil, decidió delegar el desarrollo de la cuarta entrega a Hideaki Kamiya. La propuesta inicial por parte de Capcom era que querían mantener la esencia de Resident Evil pero enfocar el gameplay mucho más a la acción y un poco menos a la exploración y resolución de puzles, sin embargo, Kamiya quería hacer un cambio muchísimo más radical, quería no solo incluir más acción, sino en general, quería hacer sentir que el jugador controlaba a alguien extremadamente fuerte, capaz de decimar hordas de enemigos por su propia cuenta. Lógicamente esta idea se contradice lo que significa el survival horror y la esencia de Resident Evil, por lo que después de mucho debate y un largo desarrollo, el 23 de agosto de 2001 en Japón y el 23 de octubre del mismo año en América, saldría a la venta la nueva IP de Capcom: Devil May Cry.

    Devil May Cry nos pone en la piel de Dante, un hombre que se gana la vida cazando demonios. Un día, Dante es atacado en su tienda por Trish, una mujer preocupantemente parecida a su difunta madre, después de que Dante demostrara su poder, esta le dice que el ataque previo fue con el objetivo de ponerlo a prueba y que Mundus, el rey de los demonios al que el padre de Dante había sellado hace 2000 años, había escapado de su prisión, por lo que necesitaba de su ayuda para derrotarlo de una vez por todas. Luego de esto se dirigen al castillo de la isla de Mallet, donde transcurren todos los eventos del juego. Durante el desarrollo del juego se van conociendo detalles acerca de la vida y el pasado de Dante, así como también de la misteriosa figura de Trish.

    Para ser sincero, Devil May Cry no es un juego con una historia precisamente brillante, de hecho, esta primera entrega es particularmente olvidable en cuanto a su historia, aunque esto es entendible considerando que fue un título netamente experimental. Lo que llevó a Devil May Cry a convertirse en un éxito fue su jugabilidad, que como dije antes, revolucionó al género beat-em-up y lo convirtió en lo que conocemos hoy día como hack-and-slash.

    El juego se basa en su mayoría en avanzar a través de los escenarios venciendo enemigos con las armas y habilidades de Dante. Al principio del juego tendremos a nuestra disposición una espada gigante llamada “Alastor” y las confiables Ebony & Ivory, las pistolas características de Dante, y a medida que avanzamos en la trama conseguiremos más armas y habilidades; por ejemplo: una escopeta, Ifrit, un par de guanteletes con el poder de las llamas del infierno, y el Devil Trigger. El Devil Trigger es la transformación de Dante en demonio, esta transformación lo dota de fuerza y velocidad adicionales, además de restablecer su salud mientras está en esta forma.

    Con esta combinación de armas encadenaremos combos a nuestros enemigos para aumentar nuestro medidor de estilo. El medidor de estilo es una dinámica que introdujo por primera vez Devil May Cry, y este consta de un medidor que irá aumentando según nuestro desempeño en batalla, los parámetros básicos para aumentar el medidor son: no recibir daño y variar los combos. Es decir, que si en una pelea somos golpeados nuestro medidor de estilo se reiniciará, y si estamos haciendo constantemente los mismos movimientos, muy difícilmente el medidor va a aumentar. Esto incentiva al jugador a experimentar constantemente con los combos y posibilidades que brindan las habilidades de Dante.

    ^{Devil Trigger de Dante}

    La forma de avanzar en el juego es a través de un sistema de misiones lineales (me gusta pensar en esto más bien como niveles), al completar la misión 1 avanzaremos a la misión 2, y así sucesivamente. Toda la trama del juego se desarrolla en el castillo de la isla Mallet y aunque en cada misión visitamos lugares distintos, también hay otras en las que volveremos a lugares que hayamos visitado previamente. El juego también cuenta con elementos de exploración y puzles, se puede decir que esa es la “herencia” que conservó de Resident Evil.

    Usualmente hay que encontrar algún ítem en específico para poder avanzar o resolver algún puzzle, aunque a diferencia de RE, los puzles aquí son mucho más sencillos de resolver y la exploración es incluso más lineal, esto debido obviamente al enfoque hacia la acción. Al final de cada misión recibiremos un puntaje de estilo en base a nuestro rendimiento en la misma, este puntaje va desde grado SSS (el más alto) hasta grado D (el más bajo), y muy parecido a los combates, este grado se va a definir por: el daño total que hayamos recibido en la misión, el tiempo en el que la hayamos completado, si utilizamos algún ítem de ayuda (estos reducen el puntaje total), y por supuesto que tanto estilo tuvimos a la hora de pelear. Todo esto puede sonar sencillo o incluso algo que esperaríamos hoy en día, pero lo cierto es que para su momento era bastante revolucionario y motivaba a repetir las misiones y hacer el mejor esfuerzo para sacar el puntaje más alto posible.

    ^{En cuanto a la dificultad, creo que se encuentra muy bien balanceado. La primera vez que lo jugué, hace unos 15 años, me pareció todo un reto y morí un par de veces en varias boss fights, sin embargo luego de que comienzas a entender y dominar el sistema de combate no solo se hace más fácil de jugar sino satisfactorio; Dante es increíblemente poderoso y eso está retratado de maravilla a la hora de controlarlo, cada movimiento es precioso y la respuesta se siente muy lograda, te hace querer jugar una y otra vez para poder dominar a todos y cada uno de los enemigos del juego. Visitándolo de nuevo después de tantos años y con mucha más experiencia se me ha hecho mucho más sencillo en Normal y Difícil, pero la dificultad Dante Must Die sigue siendo todo un desafío para nuevos o veteranos de este tipo de juegos.}

    Recuerdo que lo que me atrajo a esta franquicia fue el aspecto cool que tenía Dante, y creo que eso es lo que más define a Devil May Cry, un juego que si bien no es perfecto, tiene todos los elementos para hacerte pasar momentos increíbles y divertidos. Antes de escribir todo esto vi un video que hablaba acerca de lo que hace a Devil May Cry tan especial, y es que es una saga que alrededor de tantos juegos con narrativas tan pesadas e íntimas que tocan temas tan complejos, no es para ser tomado tan en serio. No es una historia que pretenda cambiar tu vida a través de un dilema existencialista, simplemente quiere que te sientes a jugar y a sentirte como el cazador de demonios más badass de la historia del gaming, y que lo hagas con estilo por supuesto.

    Hi, buenas a todos, cuando de trata de adaptaciones de videojuegos es conocido por todos que la mayoría de las veces estos resultan cuanto menos mediocres principalmente si le dejamos la tarea a cineastas occidentales, pero cuando le dejamos la tarea a los japos salen obras decentes como la trilogía de OVAs de Dark Stalkers y Street Fighter II, y si me dicen que el estudio MadHouse llevo Devil May Cry al anime no podría esperar mas que un anime de calidad ¿no es así?

    Hace 2000 años hubo una guerra entre humanos y los demonios, guerra que los humanos hubiesen perdido de no ser por Sparda, uno de los más poderosos demonios quien se apiadó de la humanidad y se puso de su parte para derrotar a los demonios, encerrando al príncipe demonio (Mundus) en lo más profundo de una cripta sellada. Tras esto, Sparda se fue a vivir con una humana llamada Eva y antes de morir tuvo con ella dos hijos mitad demonios. Estos crecerían para terminar enfrentándose por su propios intereses. Uno se queda en el mundo de los demonios y el otro vuelve a la tierra. Este hijo, que volvió a la tierra, se llama Dante.

    Los acontecimientos de la serie ocurren antes del segundo juego, donde un Dante lleno de deudas ahora tiene a Morrison, quien le encarga casos que investigadores o guardaespaldas normales no podrían realizar, y Patty, una huérfana quien tras salvarle en una de sus misiones tiene que darle donde vivir hasta hallar el paradero de su madre. Es así como regularmente llegan a sus manos trabajos donde algún demonio intenta amenazar la seguridad de la gente y debe intervenir.

    2000 years ago there was a war between humans and demons, a war that humans would have lost had it not been for Sparda, one of the most powerful demons who took pity on humanity and took their side to defeat the demons, locking the demon prince (Mundus) in the depths of a sealed crypt. After this, Sparda went to live with a human named Eva and before dying had two half-demon children with her. These would grow up to end up confronting each other for their own interests. One stays in the demon world and the other returns to earth. This son, who returned to earth, is named Dante.

    Para los no familiarizados con la franquicia: Devil May Cry se caracteriza por tener ser “estilo sobre sustancia” ósea que la historia es una escusa para hacer gala de escenas emocionantes de acción y personajes cool, y mas allá de algunas escenas emotivas realmente no se toma muy en serio, incluso se podría decir que Devil May Cry es una sátira a las típicas películas edgy de acción de la época, tiene un montón de clichés que usa a su beneficio, un protagonista Gary Stu que SABE que es un Gary Stu y en vez de pretender seriedad y honor es un burlón abiertamente arrogante, y si va a derrotar a alguien lo hará disfrutando cada segundo.

    For those unfamiliar with the franchise: Devil May Cry is characterized by being "rule of cool" meaning that the story is an excuse to show off exciting action scenes and cool characters, and beyond a few emotional scenes it doesn't really take itself too seriously, you could even say that Devil May Cry is a satire on the typical edgy action movies of the time, it has a lot of clichés that it uses to its advantage, a protagonist Gary Stu who KNOWS he's a Gary Stu and instead of pretending seriousness and honor he's an openly arrogant mocker, and if he's going to defeat someone he's going to do it enjoying every second of it.

    Devil May Cry 2 es el único juego que no entiende nada de esto, es exactamente lo que el resto de juegos de su propia franquicia parodian. Pero es justamente este el que eligieron como fuente de inspiración para la adaptación considerando que uno de los escritores trabajo en dicho juego. El anime en su mayoría de capítulos se toma muy en serio (solo el capitulo 5 es una excepción pero por ser comedia y no una sátira como tal) y debido a esto se siente como un producto más del montón. Sin mencionar que no es una aventura sino varias misiones donde en cada capitulo Dante se enfrenta a un demonio con un poder especifico, ya sea cumplir deseos, emboscar mujeres en la noche disfrazados de hombres, etc. La calidad de estos capítulos depende de lo interesante que sea el demonio en turno y como desarrollan la búsqueda de este, cinco de doce misiones son bien chéveres, pero el resto tienen demonios bastante olvidables al igual que sus enfrentamientos, de hecho, todos las escenas de acción son muy cortas, y siempre podrás contar que tras cada misión Dante nunca podrá pagar sus deudas o incluso estas aumentaran para pretender que tiene algún defecto o meta a alcanzar cuando es obvio que con o sin estas es un ser perfecto. Y si bien hay un enemigo que en varios capítulos se ve que planea hacer con los restos de algunos demonios para un gran plan, solo debilita a Dante al punto de se le da por muerto, pero si ya viste sus poderes de regeneración sabias que se levantaría y acabaría con el jefe final fácilmente, demasiado quizá, como si hubiera sido un cualquiera.

    Devil May Cry 2 is the only game that doesn't understand any of this, it's exactly what the rest of the games in its own franchise parody. But it is precisely this one that they chose as a source of inspiration for the adaptation considering that one of the writers worked on that game. The anime in most chapters takes itself very seriously (only chapter 5 is an exception but it is a comedy and not a satire as such) and because of this it feels like just another product of the bunch. Not to mention that it's not one adventure but several missions where in each chapter Dante faces a demon with a specific power, be it wish fulfillment, ambushing women at night disguised as men, etc. The quality of these chapters depends on how interesting the demon in turn is and how they develop the search for it, five of twelve missions are very cool, but the rest have pretty forgettable demons as well as their confrontations, in fact, all the action scenes are very short, and you can always count that after each mission Dante can never pay his debts or even these will increase to pretend that he has some defect or goal to achieve when it is obvious that with or without these he is a perfect being. And while there is an enemy that in several chapters you see that he plans to do with the remains of some demons for a great plan, it only weakens Dante to the point of being left for dead, but if you saw his regeneration powers you knew he would get up and finish off the final boss easily, too easily perhaps, as if he had been just anyone.

    Dante en vez de ser un presumido carismático es alguien mas frio y directo, los escritores debieron creer que la personalidad de Dante en Devil May Cry 2 era su natural desarrollo y madurez, pero ese ego forma parte de su caracterización que sin ella es otro protagonista frio que a veces suelta alguna frase sarcástica, para reforzar lo equivocados que estaban los escritores, en Devil May Cry 4 y 5 (con un Dante mas viejo) su burlas y picardía fueron retomadas y mejor que nunca. Pero este Dante no es terrible, sigue siendo cool pero pudo ser mejor.

    Trish la verdad es que no se puede decir mucho de ella por sus pocas apariciones, y encima cuando aparece tiene que compartir la atención con Lady, hasta se podría decir que su mejor momento fue la rivalidad que tenía con ella siendo confundida con un demonio de esos que hacen de villano episódico.

    Trish the truth is that not much can be said about her for her few appearances, and on top of that when she appears she has to share the attention with Lady, you could even say that her best moment was the rivalry she had with her being mistaken for one of those demons that play the role of episodic villain.

    Patty Lowell es un personaje original de este anime. Cuida, limpia y decora del Devil May Cry desde que fue dejada al cuidado de Dante. Como cualquier niña es ingenua y caprichosa, pero a la vez se preocupa por las apariencias y regaña a Dante como si fuera su esposa desde hace 20 años, ósea, es la pesadilla de todo hombre personificada.

    Patty Lowell is an original character of this anime. She takes care, cleans and decorates the Devil May Cry since she was left in Dante's care. Like any girl she is naive and capricious, but at the same time she cares about appearances and scolds Dante as if she were his wife for 20 years, in other words, she is every man's nightmare personified.

    Es MadHouse amigos, claro que tiene buen diseño, atención al detalle, y una animación… esto ultimo esta mas o menos, me explico: si tiene buena animación pero el presupuesto no era tan grande para garantizar buenas escenas de acción, pero MadHouse no se atrevería a traernos algo feo, por lo que su estrategia fue tener varias escenas estáticas de conversaciones y hacer los enfrentamientos lo mas breves posible sin perder su clasificación en el genero de acción, cosas como cortes profundos, disparos a corta distancia y peleas contra hordas de enemigos ocurren fuera de cámara. Si fuera un anime donde la acción es un complemento para contar una profunda historia se perdonaría, pero esto es Devil May Cry, una saga que no brilla por su trama y a cambio te compensaba con acción dinámica que siempre llega al ridículo, y el anime no necesariamente tenía que ser ridículo para ser considerado “estilo sobre sustancia”, por lo que en ese sentido es decepcionante (lo siento si estabas buscado material para un AMV con música de Linkin Park de fondo).

If it were an anime where the action is a complement to tell a deep story it would be forgivable, but this is Devil May Cry, a saga that doesn't shine for its plot and in exchange it compensated you with dynamic action that always reaches the ridiculous, and the anime didn't necessarily have to be ridiculous to be considered "style over substance", so in that sense it's disappointing (sorry if you were looking for material for an AMV with Linkin Park music in the background)

    El opening esta bien a pesar de solo ser instrumental. "I'll Be Your Home" es bastante olvidable como ending. Pero la verdadera estrella aquí es "Future In My Hands" una canción que resulta ser relevante para la trama del sexto capitulo y es justo el tipo de música que podía esperar aquí. Escuche el doblaje en castellano, ingles y el japonés original. Por esta vez puedo decir que les recomendaría más la versión en ingles ya que si bien los otros dos no son malos son bastante secos, el ingles tuvo mas expresividad.

    The opening is okay despite being just an instrumental. "I'll Be Your Home" is pretty forgettable as an ending. But the real star here is "Future In My Hands" a song that turns out to be relevant to the plot of the sixth chapter and is just the kind of music I could expect here. I listened to the dub in Spanish, English and the original Japanese. For this time I can say that I would recommend more the English version because while the other two are not bad they are quite dry, the English one had more expressiveness.

    Devil May Cry no es un mal anime, pero tampoco es algo podría catalogar como memorable, y como adaptación ni se diga, casi en todos los apartados llega a ser decente siendo lo único verdaderamente admirable la ilustración y es precisamente por esta que se hubo mayor trabajo en todo lo demás, incluso podría teorizar que si hubiera sido una OVA o una trilogía de OVAs podrían haber hallado un equilibrio para darnos algo a la altura de Night Warriors (por poner un ejemplo). Por mucho que me duela admitirlo le tengo que dar un 5,6 de 10

    Devil May Cry is not a bad anime, but it's not something I could classify as memorable, and as an adaptation, not to mention, almost in every aspect it's decent being the only truly admirable thing the illustration and it's precisely because of this that there was more work in everything else, I could even theorize that if it had been an OVA or a trilogy of OVAs they could have found a balance to give us something at the level of Night Warriors (to give an example). As much as it pains me to admit it, I have to give it a **5.6 ** out of 10.
