A series you must see / Una serie que deven ver

Hello friends, today I'm here to talk to you about an anime that I really liked when it was on air in mid-2021 called Ijiranaide Nagatoro San. It's about Naoto, a quiet and shy second-year loser who enjoys spending his free time in his school's art room. Everything would change the day he meets the new underclassman named Nagatoro, who begins to tease and annoy Naoto along with her other 3 friends.

Little by little their relationship becomes more romantic, leading to both of them falling in love with each other. On the one hand, Nagatoro refuses to accept her feelings for her Senpai, even getting jealous of her friends and any girl who approaches Naoto. And Naoto, being so shy, can't process it either. Although on several occasions they were seen having calm conversations showing their feelings.

This anime makes me very nostalgic because it reminds me of 2021 when every weekend I waited for a new episode. I had a lot of fun and laughed with this series, although there are some people who hated it because of Nagatoro's personality, I really loved it. It's one of those romantic comedy series where they show you all the evolution that the couple has and all the obstacles they have to overcome.

I really recommend it, and the long-awaited second season came out recently. The first opening left a deep impression on me because it's very catchy and I love the art as well as the ending. The music for the second season was also good, but I prefer the previous ones. Have you seen this series yet?

¿Tu ya has visto ésta serie?

  2. Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san 「イジらないで、長瀞さん 」Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro (2021, 12 episodes) + 2nd Attack (2023, 12 episodes)@onlyjob547d

Mean and confident first year girl bullies second year introvert boy in high school. In the first episode she makes him cry twice and knocks him down to the ground so he fells into a creek. In second episode she gropes him. In episode 3 she invites him to join her and two of her friends at cafeteria and her friends immediately start insulting and humiliating him, escalating offence after noticing that he do not fight back or retort to insults. That goes so far that after a while she interrupted rude attitude of her friends. In episode 4, two of her friends stalk the boy during lunch and intimidate him with sexually charged "jokes" about groping them. To embarrass him, they try to make him touch their breasts (having buns or donuts hidden under their shirts). In another episode, they put dog's collar (with a padlock) and a leash on his neck and remove it only after he asks/begs them few times. Etc. That's half of the first season.

Mean and vulgar, right? Of course the show would be terrible if it continued like this and fortunately it doesn't. Rude attitude, (stereo-)typically associated with boys being mean to girls due to lack of communicative skills, transforms into relationships, friendship and co-dependency. Show becomes more playful and more comedian.

Frankly, if I did not care to be fair with this review, I would have stopped watching the show after few episodes. Viewers who endure first several episodes will see that bullying stops as two main characters spend a lot of time together, helping and nurturing each other. Nagatoro (girl) helps Hachiouji (boy) with his studies, with his exercises, with his art project and competition. They became defensive of each other, positively influencing each other and becoming better selves due to that experience. By the end of the second season a hint of romantic relationships appears.

However overall impression is still below average. Style of the show is not great, with non-interacting humans in public places being drawn without faces. Bullying is never condemned as wrong. Victim of bullying meekly accepts it without resistance, even though he grows more confident from being bullied. Bully never apologises or feels guilt. I do not buy "harassment becoming friendship" story in this context. In reality, more often than not, bullying begets resentment and hate. Whitewashing and normalising bullying under comedy sauce feels wrong.

  3. Let's Take A Look At Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro@youloseagain654d

This is one of the usual Crunchyroll specials I bring to you... Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro

Naoto Hachiouji is a quiet student who spends the majority of his time in his clubs art room practicing. One day while working on his manga in the library he meets Hayase Nagatoro, a loud and relentless teaser. Hayase reads Naoto's manga story, upon seeing how awkward he is, Hayase takes it upon herself to make Naoto her personal play thing, replacing his name and calling him Senpai from there on out.

Much to his annoyance, Hayase's daily tormenting reduces him to feeling embarrassed that she can torture him so mercilessly. But as time goes on, they spend more and more time together. This builds a rather odd and strange friendship between them that is built on teasing and general mischief. Naoto starts to realise that being around Hayase can actually be a fun experience, and from there friendship and feelings start to become mixed.

Year of release: 2021 Aired: April 2021 to June 2021 Number of seasons: 1 Number of episodes: 12 Studio: Telecom Animation Film Genre: Comedy, Romance Episode run time: 23 minutes Age rating: PG - 13 My rating: 7/10 Music Score: 9.5/10

Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro is quite an enjoyable series. As is usual for all of Crunchyroll's recommendation's to me, this an enjoyable watch with plenty of lewd viewing and references!

With the subject of art as part of the series, it really attracted me and made me continue on even when I wasn't sure if I would continue.

The topic of bullying is quite frank and frequent in the first half of the season, but please do give it a go and watch it through if you can. The story between the 2 of them builds throughout the bullying/teasing, and can be seen as the story progresses.

The art is very good, the colourings are very good and I enjoy it's all round interesting style. From the more serious character art, then on to the very entertaining and somewhat hilarious antics portrayed by the characters.

On to the music score which is really really REALLYYYYY GOOD! The chosen music is very fitting throughout and at times is perfect beyond comprehension. I just love all of it and feel I couldn't have found a better score.

There is a second season which I am currently working through at the moment. Once I finish it, I will do a follow up post on that too. So far it is brilliant and adds even more entertainment following on from the first season.

  4. Don't toy with me miss Nagatoro Review (ENG/SPA)@angeldark241762d

Hello everyone, thanks for all the votes of my last post I will be sure to continue striving to bring you better reviews, in this case I will talk about a rather peculiar anime expected by many and critically acclaimed, it is certainly something new in the huge river of anime clichés, without more to say let's start:

    General analysis:

In the romantic comedy genre, there are many anime but almost all of them follow a formula or a similar set of characteristics, in this case the roles are totally reversed, the guy is not the one who annoys the shy girl, instead Nagatoro constantly annoys the poor Senpai who often falls victim to his jokes, although comedy is the order of the day in this anime there are several moments in which we can appreciate the special connection between the protagonists, although between antics, jokes and all kinds of nonsense love is something inescapable between these two, demonstrating that not all love stories are the same.

    image.png

    Analysis of main characters:

    • Naoto Hachiōji (Senpai): He is the male protagonist and a second year student, although he lacks confidence and self-esteem he can be quite brave and daring when the situation requires it, due to a childhood full of abuse by other children he learned to endure these situations and close his heart towards others avoiding interactions to focus on drawing, although at first he was annoyed by Nagatoro both develop a strange friendship based on annoying each other, mostly he falls to Nagatoro's provocations and insinuations blushing and averting his gaze. He likes manga, video games and erotic magazines, the latter being something that Nagatoro often uses to annoy him.

    image.png

    • Hayase Nagatoro: Female Protagonist and first year student, her personality is very difficult to describe while she can be playful, cheerful and joking she can also be cold and stoic all depending on who she talks to or rather if Senpai is present even when her jokes about virginity and how perverted Senpai is annoying the truth is that she is equally or more inexperienced with the opposite sex than Senpai making her a hypocrite getting nervous and blushing every time the situation rises in tone, Although it seems that she only sees him as a toy, it is quite obvious that she cares about him, to the point of supporting him and protecting him from her friends, besides getting angry when he makes self-deprecating comments about himself, she also gets jealous if her friends flirt with him or tease him. He is in the swimming team of his school although his true passion is martial arts.

    image.png

    Relationship between main characters:

Nagatoro and Senpai have a difficult relationship to categorize while at first it is obvious that they are victim and bully, as they spend more and more time together they become friends and the relationship becomes more and more confusing because to others they are a couple but they refuse to accept it, Nagatoro never stopped teasing Senpai but Senpai started to apologize when his teasing went too far. While Nagatoro is the first to fall in love she can't express her feelings instead she prefers to tease him and instead Senpai lacks quite a bit of confidence and self esteem taking any show of affection from Nagatoro as a joke or a way to tease him, eventually he develops feelings for her and starts saying how cute Nagatoro is.

    Conclusion:

Greetings to all readers. If there's one trope over-exploited by romantic comedies, it's that of the eccentric girl who comes to solve problems and brighten up the life of a pathetic man lacking in personality that you can self-insert yourself into. In recent years the trope had a new boom with manga like "Karakai Jōzu no Takagi-san" "Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai!" "Komi-san wa, Komyushō desu." And the case that concerns us now, a very particular case.

Naoto Hachiōji (better known as Senpai) is an aspiring artist who one day in the library meets a group of girls who would end up making fun of the manga he had drawn, but one will stay to make his life impossible, Hayase Nagatoro, who will become the Bully of this boy, but gradually developing feelings for him in this... romantic comedy? WHAT?!

Let's make a clarification, this anime and manga began as a webmanga written and illustrated by Nanashi, which made a rather murky romanization of Bullying in which apparently making the protagonist cry would be something usual, but when it officially became a manga, the Publisher after making the first volume had to put a leash on his ideas as if it were John Kricfalusi and the abrupt change is noticeable, this makes the first chapter of the anime seem like a Bait that has nothing to do with the rest, but unlike Goblin Slayer or The Rising of the Shield Hero which trick you with the expectation that you will see something innovative, here it is a necessary change and a relief that the thing did not take the direction of the webmanga or it would be a lousy manga and anime.

    Fuente

Instead they gave us a school romance, which is not a marvel but now is better than the webmanga, Nagatoro went from a sadistic Bully to a "Manic Pixie Dream Girl" with the particularity that instead of being tender and the emotional shelter of an unhappy, she is a mischievous prankster who took "senpai" out of her comfort zone. Even though she notices the moment when she starts to like Naoto, she will continue to tease him because it's already a routine, because it's the easy way to get his attention, plus the fear of rejection knowing full well the horror she put him through before. And it is not so unlikely that she falls in love with a "beta" since she is of strong character and this personality usually clashes with people of the same personality and the same series makes it clear that Nagatoro is annoyed by boys who think they are dominant, so the strong personalities will prefer the more introverted ones, either to dominate them or because they are tender.

Beyond the aforementioned, it is still a romantic comedy with ecchi overtones, perhaps I could highlight the self-criticism it makes, either to the self-insertion with the manga of Senpai, even in the last chapter it makes a wink to its masochistic fans who want to be teased by Nagatoro, but despite being aware of its clichés and shortcomings it does nothing with it. I could over-think how the anime explores how some people have difficulty expressing what they feel, but let's leave it at that. The truth is that despite rethinking the direction the plot would take, its beginning and therefore the foundations of their relationship were atrociously forged.

    Personajes / Characters

Hayase Nagatoro: She is an athletic girl who enjoys teasing her Senpai, she will constantly emphasize how much of a virgin she is with her lewd jokes, which could turn out to be her hypocrisy since she is as easy to embarrass as the Senpai. There will be times when her jokes will not turn out as expected and she will end up humiliating herself, other times there will be those who want to make fun of the Senpai with the same bad intentions that Nagatoro used to have and she will defend him, so her jokes will become more and more harmless until they are just jokes, even encouraging the protagonist to get out of his bubble and take risks in life. But Nagatoro is still a person to watch out for as she has proven to be quite jealous when her friends and other girls flirt with Senpai to the point of intimidating them, not to mention the chapter on the beach where Senpai clarifies that they are not a couple and even though this is true she gets angry with him to the point of being as cruel as in the first episode.

Naoto Hachiōji / Senpai: He is a shy and introverted aspiring artist who tried to avoid any social interaction until Nagatoro ruined his plans. He is the typical asocial "beta" with the particularity that he has the characterization of being a cartoonist, and rather than being an otaku, he takes art seriously and manga is more of a hobby than anything else. His development is very slow so we will see him for a long time as everyone's punching bag, ironically Nagatoro's constant teasing will lead to few moments in which he gets fed up and dares to fight back, slowly the group of girls who ruined his tranquility becomes, for better or worse, the closest thing to friends he has had for a long time, he even begins to enjoy Nagatoro's company.

    Fuente

Maki Gamou: Gamo is one of Nagatoro's group of friends. She and Yoshi also annoy Senpai but with malice, only to be convinced by Nagatoro to treat him with more respect, although she would begin to provoke Nagatoro with her increasingly obvious attraction to Naoto.

    Fuente

Yoshi: She is another member of Nagatoro's group of friends. She is not very smart and usually follows Gamo, agrees on anything with her and usually emphasizes what she says. The few times she shows some individuality is for a joke or to show her tenderness despite being a troubled teenager just like Gamo.

    Fuente

Sakura: She is Nagatoro's last friend, she is more relaxed and inoffensive than the rest of the girls mentioned, but there will be times when she can be as vile as Gamo for sowing jealousy in groups of boys for a whim.

The truth is that beyond the main duo there is not much to highlight, they are basically plot tools or comic relief... in their own way.

The aesthetics are good, I can only highlight the variety of faces and expressions, with Nagatoro being the one who can fill a gallery with her mischievous faces alone. Telecom loves to add filters and lights when it's noon and they want to emphasize "tender" moments. The animation is good although it has its weird thing which are those moments when Nagatoro's arms move like noodles, details to give personality I guess.

The background music is functional. The opening stands out for being a reflection of the protagonist and quite catchy, the ending is the typical sentimental and nice that you may forget, what disappoints me is that for both recycled scenes of the series with some filters and changes in colors.

    En conclusión / In conclusion

Ijiranaide Nagatoro-san is not "the trash anime that romanticizes bullying" that I expected, at least not for the most part, it wants to be different from other romantic comedies but never really takes off, its beginnings and webmanga of origin affect its quality, the only thing that can save it is its humor, the subtlety with which it criticizes its genre and the type of people who enjoy it the most, and its attempt to motivate asocial people like Senpai to open up to the world. But between the good, the mediocre, and the awful, it earns a 5.1 /10.
