¡Hola amigos! Hoy me paso por acá para traerles la reseña de una película de terror que vi hace poco y que logró sorprenderme. Así que acá les hablaré acerca de It Feeds. 

Hello friends! Today I'm dropping by to bring you a review of a horror movie that I saw recently and that managed to surprise me. So here I will tell you about It Feeds.

Trama - Plot

La historia trata de una terapeuta que tiene el don de la clarividencia y ayuda a sus pacientes con terapias no convencionales donde los induce a hipnosis y se mete en sus mentes para descubrir aquellos traumas que los paralizan para poder superarlos. Un día en medio de una sesión aparece una niña desesperada diciendo que ve un ente que la atormenta y se alimenta de ella. Jordan, la hija de la terapeuta, se encarga de recibirla y anotar todo lo que le dice hasta que se asoma su madre y ve al demonio que la tiene prisionera. Aunque no pueden hacer mucho porque el padre de la niña entra a la fuerza y se la lleva alegando que está exagerando y que no necesita terapia. No contenta con ello, Jordan decide investigar el paradero de la niña para ayudarla, pero al final termina exponiéndose al peligro y siendo la nueva víctima de esta criatura que se alimenta de las personas que habita hasta consumirlas. Ahora Cynthia deberá encontrar la manera de enfrentarse a ella y salvar a su hija.

The story is about a therapist who has the gift of clairvoyance and helps her patients with unconventional therapies where she induces them to hypnosis and gets into their minds to discover those traumas that paralyze them in order to overcome them. One day in the middle of a session a desperate girl appears saying that she sees an entity that torments her and feeds on her. Jordan, the therapist's daughter, is in charge of receiving her and writing down everything she says until her mother shows up and sees the demon that is holding her prisoner. They can't do much, though, because the girl's father breaks in and takes her away, claiming she's overreacting and doesn't need therapy. Not content with that, Jordan decides to investigate the girl's whereabouts to help her, but in the end she ends up exposing herself to danger and becoming the new victim of this creature that feeds on the people it inhabits until it consumes them. Now Cynthia must find a way to confront it and save her daughter.

Reseña - Review

La trama me sonaba interesante por lo que decidí darle una oportunidad y la verdad es que estoy teniendo una buena racha siguiendo mi intuición. Fue una película entretenida, y con bastante suspenso, uno no sabía lo que iba a pasar hasta el final. Creo que ese fue su punto débil, en un momento se desvirtuó un poco. Pero en general mantuvo un buen ritmo y es un film que se deja disfrutar.

The plot sounded interesting to me so I decided to give it a chance and the truth is that I am having a good run following my intuition. It was an entertaining movie, and quite suspenseful, you didn't know what was going to happen until the end. I think that was its weak point, at one point it did get a bit twisted. But in general it kept a good pace and it is a film that you can enjoy.

No me lleve grandes sustos, pero la historia estuvo atrapante. Además, creo que fue todo una metáfora a la maldad que puede existir en las personas y que nuestros monstruos internos pueden venir de viejos traumas del pasado provocados por otros. Parece increíble, pero hasta logró emocionarme un poco al final. También nos habla de lo que es capaz de enfrentar una madre para proteger y salvar a su hija. Otra manera de superar traumas es tener la determinación suficiente para cuidar de aquellos a quienes amamos, esto nos da el impulso para superar cualquier obstáculo. Me encantó ver a Ashley Greene en este papel.

I didn't get any big scares, but the story was gripping. Also, I think it was all a metaphor for the evil that can exist in people and that our inner monsters can come from old past traumas provoked by others. It seems unbelievable, but it even managed to move me a little at the end. It also tells us about what a mother is capable of facing to protect and save her daughter. Another way to overcome trauma is to be determined enough to take care of those we love, this gives us the drive to overcome any obstacle. I loved seeing Ashley Greene in this role.

Por otro lado, su punto flojo fue la batalla final. Creo que fue un toque fantasioso y bastante simple a todo lo que estuvo ocurriendo en la trama. Además de que no entendí el cambio de vestimenta, ni esos peinados y maquillaje amazónicos jaja. Bueno, fue bastante loca esa parte, imposible no reparar en esos detalles que parecen minúsculos, pero hacen ruido. 

On the other hand, its weak point was the final battle. I think it was a fantasy touch and quite simple to everything that was happening in the plot. Besides, I didn't understand the change of clothes, nor those amazonian hairstyles and makeup haha. Well, it was pretty crazy that part, impossible not to notice those details that seem minuscule, but make noise.

Por supuesto que también hubo otros detalles a considerar, pero la verdad es que cumplió mis expectativas. No es lo mejorcito que vi en una película de este género, pero sí fue mejor que muchas otras que dan risa en vez de miedo. Así que si te llama la atención o te gusta el género te la recomiendo.

Of course there were other details to consider, but the truth is that it met my expectations. It's not the best I've seen in a movie of this genre, but it was better than many others that give laughter instead of fear. So if it catches your attention or you like the genre I recommend it.

Synopsis: Charlotte is a young teenager who (in secret) decides to raise a mysterious spider as a pet. However, as the animal grows at an overwhelmingly fast rate, she and her entire family must deal with the true brutal and bloodthirsty nature of this creature.

While post-2000s cinema is still struggling to find its own identity within the industry, making use of any beneficial reference to the past is usually a very valuable resource for many movies. On the other hand, if this idea is not well used within a narrative, it is very likely that the dynamics of the story will only recall the past, without bringing anything new to the present. This is exactly what happens with this project, which recalls an atmosphere of the 80s, but fails to go beyond that, because all attempts are misguided and boring.

Within a relatively “claustrophobic” setting (because the entire movie takes place inside an older building, in the midst of a violent blizzard, forcing each resident to remain “trapped” in their apartments), everything the movie tries to do ends up being sabotaged by an extremely shallow script with no major explanations. In the plot involving a “dysfunctional” family in crisis (this being the dramatic support of the script), we have a very charismatic protagonist fighting to destroy the spider that she once thought was just a “peculiar” pet.

There is a mix of science fiction, drama, comedy (yes, jokes that are supposed to be funny, but in fact, end up being annoying to watch when they are said by even more unbearable characters) and “horror” that really doesn’t work. Despite having a decent setting, nothing else works in favor of this movie, which even though it is less than 90 minutes long, seems to be even longer due to the slow pace at which things happen (even though it gives a false impression that everything is happening too quickly due to its “biased editing”).

The script relies on the lack of expository dialogue to show what is happening, and once it chooses to go down this path, the script literally shows the things happening to the viewer in a very detailed way (it is almost as if the audience were being treated as someone with a high attention deficit), and we know that when this needs to be used within a narrative as simple as this one (which really does not bring anything new or complex), it is because the essence of the project has nothing substantial to be developed anywhere.

Random characters are all presented without the slightest kind of depth, almost as if they were disposable figures in the plot (which ironically ends up happening). The protagonist, as well as the rest of the cast, is implausible, despite being “naturally” smart. In general, all the performances are bad, and there is no possibility of having any empathy for any of the characters (with the exception of a helpless baby). A brief attempt to make them interact within a more cohesive scenario happens, but it is still very superficial.

By choosing not to fully explain what happens, the script also makes some bets on horror gore, delivering only a single scene worthy of a horror movie of this level... The rest are just a few seconds where the threat of the plot is treated as a mere supporting character without much importance (when in fact, it should be the opposite). Things simply happen, as if it were something quite natural to have a mutant spider walking through a building through the air ducts, entering and leaving apartments, kidnapping its victims, and imprisoning them.

Even in the technical part, the movie is very limited (obviously this is due to its budget, which must have been quite limited). The practical effects are slightly interesting (as are its digital effects) and this helps to create a more “real” layer to the project where the main threat comes in second or third place), but everything else is a well-intentioned mess, but with a bad result. A blame that falls doubly on Kiah Roache-Turner's lap because he is responsible not only for the script, but also for directing this project.

Sting could even work as a lighthearted entertainment (and for some people it can actually be seen that way), but personally speaking, I am more demanding, even more so when the genre is horror (because the basics really need to be something well done to be captivating). This movie is just another example of how modern cinema urgently needs to reinvent itself, because not even recycling ideas from movies from other decades can the current scenario bring any originality. How long will this last?

Si bien el cine posterior a la década del 2000 aún lucha por encontrar su propia identidad dentro de la industria, cualquier referencia al pasado suele ser un recurso muy valioso para muchas películas. Por otro lado, si esta idea no se utiliza bien en la narrativa, es muy probable que la dinámica de la historia solo rememore el pasado, sin aportar nada nuevo al presente. Esto es precisamente lo que ocurre con este proyecto, que evoca la atmósfera de los 80, pero no logra ir más allá, porque todos los intentos son fallidos y aburridos.

En un entorno relativamente claustrofóbico (ya que toda la película transcurre en un edificio antiguo, en medio de una violenta ventisca que obliga a cada residente a permanecer atrapado en sus apartamentos), todo lo que intenta hacer la película acaba siendo saboteado por un guion superficial y sin grandes explicaciones. En la trama de una familia disfuncional en crisis (siendo este el soporte dramático del guion), tenemos a una protagonista muy carismática que lucha por destruir a la araña que una vez creyó que era solo una mascota peculiar.

Hay una mezcla de ciencia ficción, drama, comedia (sí, chistes que se supone que son graciosos, pero que, de hecho, resultan molestos cuando los dicen personajes aún más insoportables) y terror que realmente no funciona. A pesar de tener una ambientación decente, nada más juega a favor de esta película, que si bien tiene menos de 90 minutos de duración, parece ser aún más larga debido al ritmo lento en el que suceden las cosas (aunque da la falsa impresión de que todo sucede demasiado rápido debido a su “edición sesgada”).

El guion se basa en la falta de diálogo expositivo para mostrar lo que sucede, y una vez que opta por este camino, muestra literalmente lo que sucede al espectador con gran detalle (es casi como si se tratara al público como alguien con un alto déficit de atención). Sabemos que cuando esto debe usarse en una narrativa tan simple como esta (que realmente no aporta nada nuevo ni complejo), es porque la esencia del proyecto no tiene nada sustancial que desarrollar.

Los personajes aleatorios se presentan sin la más mínima profundidad, casi como si fueran figuras desechables en la trama (lo que irónicamente termina sucediendo). El protagonista, al igual que el resto del reparto, resulta inverosímil, a pesar de ser inteligente por naturaleza. En general, todas las actuaciones son malas, y no hay posibilidad de sentir empatía por ninguno de los personajes (con la excepción de un bebé indefenso). Se hace un breve intento de que interactúen dentro de un escenario más cohesivo, pero sigue siendo muy superficial.

Al optar por no explicar completamente lo que sucede, el guion también apuesta por el horror sangriento, presentando solo una escena digna de una película de terror de este nivel... El resto son solo unos segundos donde la amenaza de la trama se trata como un mero personaje secundario sin mayor importancia (cuando, de hecho, debería ser lo contrario). Las cosas simplemente suceden, como si fuera algo natural tener una araña mutante caminando por un edificio a través de los conductos de aire, entrando y saliendo de los apartamentos, secuestrando a sus víctimas y encarcelándolas.

Incluso en el aspecto técnico, la película es muy limitada (obviamente, esto se debe a su presupuesto, que debió ser bastante limitado). Los efectos prácticos son ligeramente interesantes (al igual que los efectos digitales) y esto ayuda a crear una capa más "real" en el proyecto, donde la amenaza principal queda en segundo o tercer lugar, pero todo lo demás es un desastre bienintencionado, pero con un mal resultado. Una culpa que recae doblemente sobre Kiah Roache-Turner, ya que es responsable no solo del guion, sino también de la dirección de este proyecto.

Sting. Araña asesina podría incluso funcionar como entretenimiento ligero (y para algunos, de hecho, puede serlo), pero personalmente, soy más exigente, sobre todo cuando se trata de terror (porque lo básico tiene que estar bien hecho para ser cautivador). Isso é exatamente o que acontece com este projeto, que relembra uma atmosfera dos anos 80, mas não consegue ir além disso, porque todas as tentativas são equivocadas e enfadonhas.

Dentro de uma ambientação relativamente “claustrofóbica” (porque o filme inteiro acontece dentro de um prédio mais antigo, em meio à uma nevasca violenta, obrigando cada morador a permanecer “preso” em seus apartamentos), tudo que o filme tenta fazer acaba sendo boicotado por um roteiro extremamente raso e sem maiores explicações. Na trama que envolve uma família “disfuncional” em crise (sendo este o apoio dramático do roteiro), temos uma protagonista bem carismática lutando para destruir a aranha que outrora ela pensou ser apenas um animal de estimação “peculiar”.

Há uma mistura de ficção científica, drama, comédia (sim, piadas que supostamente deveriam ser engraçadas, mas na verdade, acabam sendo algo irritante de ser visto ao serem ditas por personagens ainda mais insuportáveis) e “horror” que realmente não funciona. Apesar de haver uma ambientação decente, nada mais funciona a favor desse filme, que mesmo tendo menos de 90 minutos, parece ser ainda mais longo pelo ritmo lento em que as coisas acontecem (ainda que ele entregue uma falsa impressão de que tudo está acontecendo rápido demais por ter uma “edição tendenciosa”).

O roteiro aposta na falta de diálogo expositivo para mostrar o que está acontecendo, e uma vez que escolhe ir por esse caminho, o roteiro literalmente mostra as coisas acontecendo ao telespectador sempre de maneira muito detalhada (é quase como se o público estivesse sendo tratado como alguém que tem um déficit de atenção elevado), e sabemos que quando isso precisa ser utilizado dentro de uma narrativa tão simples como esta (que realmente não traz nada de novo ou complexo), é porque a essência do projeto não tem nada de substancial a ser desenvolvido em qualquer lado.

Personagens aleatórios são todos apresentados sem o menor tipo de aprofundamento, quase como se fossem figuras descartáveis na trama (o que ironicamente acaba acontecendo). A protagonista, assim como todo o restante do elenco é inverossímil, apesar de ser “naturalmente” esperta. De uma maneira geral, todas as atuações são ruins, e não existe a menor possibilidade de ter alguma empatia por nenhum dos personagens (com exceção de um bebê indefeso). Uma breve tentativa de fazê-los interagir dentro de um cenário mais coeso acontece, mas ainda sim, é algo muito superficial.

Escolhendo não explicar totalmente o que acontece, o roteiro também faz algumas apostas no horror gore, entregando apenas uma única cena digna de um filme de horror desse nível... Todo o restante são poucos segundos onde a ameaça da trama é tratada como uma mera coadjuvante sem tanta importância (quando na verdade, deveria ser o contrário). As coisas simplesmente acontecem, como se fosse algo bastante natural ter uma aranha mutante andando por um prédio através dos dutos de ar, entrando e saindo de apartamentos sequestrando as suas vítimas, e a aprisionando-as.

Até mesmo na parte técnica o filme é muito limitado (obviamente que isso se deve ao seu orçamento, que com certeza deve ter sido bastante limitado). Os efeitos práticos são ligeiramente interessantes (assim como os seus efeitos digitais) e isso ajuda a criar uma camada mais “verdadeira” para o projeto onde a principal ameaça vem em segundo ou terceiro plano), mas todo o restante é uma bagunça bem intencionada, mas que traz um resultado ruim. Uma culpa que cai no colo Kiah Roache-Turner em dobro porque ele é o responsável não só pelo roteiro, mas também por dirigir este projeto.

Sting - Aranha Assassina poderia até funcionar como um entretenimento descompromissado (e para algumas pessoas ele pode realmente conseguir ser visto dessa maneira), mas particularmente falando, eu sou mais exigente, ainda mais quando o gênero é o horror (porque o básico realmente precisa ser algo bem feito para ser cativante). Este filme é só mais um exemplo de como o cinema moderno deve se reinventar urgentemente, porque nem mesmo reciclando as ideias dos filmes de outras décadas o cenário atual consegue imprimir alguma originalidade. Até quando isso vai durar?

Greetings to all the movie lovers who make up the hive community. Today I want to share my review and opinion of the movie The Menu, which was released several months ago but which I saw recently. It is a thriller, dark comedy, and psychological horror film that addresses the eccentricities of the wealthy in relation to food.

It begins with a couple flirting with each other, which led me to believe that the man was courting the woman, but they were not yet dating. He invites her to enjoy a luxury dining experience reserved for only a few, paying more than a thousand dollars per person for the experience. The woman is astonished by the price, which leads me to believe that she is from a different social class.

All the people who reserved their spots are picked up at a port where they board a yacht to an unknown island. They are people of different ages and styles, including an older married couple, a trio of friends, a food critic and her assistant, and an actor with his manager, among others. The only thing they have in common is that they are millionaires and wanted to have an unforgettable experience.

The couple I described at the beginning are the protagonists. The man is a fan of food reality shows and admires the chef who directs the entire menu. The girl, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, is not excited about the dishes she will try or the great experience. She only went to work as a companion and wanted her pay. Maintaining that detached attitude toward all the supposed luxury is what allowed her to survive the chaos that ensued.

Once the group arrived on the island, they realized they were cut off from communication and had to follow certain rules. Eighty percent of the story took place in the island's restaurant, where the chef, played by the great actor Ralph Fiennes, began his show by presenting each bite with a dark narrative describing its name and why it was called that. The first few were very eloquent and thoughtful, but little by little each dish became personal, that is, each story was murky, painful, and distasteful, which made Margot (Anya Taylor-Joy) stop eating and refuse to obey, being the first to realize that no one would leave that dinner alive.

As for the dishes, they were not eye-catching or the main focus of the film, as is often the case in other food films. Here, the main plot was the menu, its meaning, and the chef's feeling of loss regarding his passion, not feeling that his dedication to serving and creating was sufficiently valued, losing his sense of purpose in life. This enraged him because paying an excessive price for something does not mean that it is appreciated. This is a social critique of class inequality and the value given to some things that do not deserve it, even surpassing the love of life itself. It also exposes fanaticism towards a belief or person.

The menu has scenes that surprise and shock. I liked that they maintained a balance between suspense and comedy. There isn't much gore, which I also found appropriate. The ending made me think about empathy, and I ended up with a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, not because of the food but because of the moment and the emotion expressed by the protagonist while eating. You have to see it to understand what I mean. I recommend it if you like these genres, but it is not suitable for children.

Created by writer and journalist Ian Fleming, British secret agent James Bond became a literary phenomenon, and later also became a cinematic phenomenon as one of the most iconic heroes in the history of spy movies. After the most recent movie in the franchise was released in 2021, there have been no other chapters released so far and there is still much speculation about the future of this project (which has more doubts than certainties).

The biggest question of all so far is knowing who will bring the next version of the spy to life on the big screen. There are many rumors about who will fill this position, but no officially confirmed information. Until that happens, other doubts remain in the air. One of these doubts was who would be the next director to lead the franchise, and it was cleared up yesterday, when Amazon MGM Studios officially announced that Denis Villeneuve was the chosen director.

In addition to directing the next movie in the franchise, Villeneuve will also serve as executive producer on the project, alongside the trio Amy Pascal, David Heyman and Tanya Lapointe. The studio responsible for the franchise continues to seek a new vision for this particular universe of the most famous British spy in the world, and having a director with such a keen cinematic perception as Villeneuve to guide the project was certainly an assertive decision.

There is no doubt about Villeneuve's competence as a filmmaker, but even though I really like his work, I still think that his vision for a franchise as loyal as the James Bond saga could be a bit risky. On the other hand, I am very hopeful and pleased because something totally unexpected could happen (personally speaking, I was already rooting for a substantial renewal and I believe that this will happen precisely in this next “phase”). New challenges are coming and could reshape the franchise.

This new creative phase of the franchise is really starting off on the right foot, which will certainly still be a long one because they still need to announce not only the next actor, but also the rest of the cast, as well as the writing team (which will certainly not be made up of just one writer) and the other technical aspects. Until then, we can only wait and see what the studio's next choices will be within the franchise. I hope they continue to make good choices, always thinking "outside the box".

No cabe duda de la competencia de Villeneuve como cineasta, pero aunque me encanta su trabajo, sigo pensando que su visión para una franquicia tan fiel como la saga de James Bond podría ser algo arriesgada. Por otro lado, tengo mucha esperanza y me alegra que algo totalmente inesperado pueda suceder (personalmente, ya esperaba una renovación sustancial y creo que esto ocurrirá precisamente en esta próxima fase). Se avecinan nuevos desafíos que podrían remodelar la franquicia.

Esta nueva fase creativa de la franquicia empieza con buen pie, y sin duda será larga, ya que aún deben anunciar no solo al próximo actor, sino también al resto del reparto, así como al equipo de guionistas (que sin duda no estará compuesto por un solo guionista) y los demás aspectos técnicos. Hasta entonces, solo nos queda esperar a ver cuáles serán las próximas decisiones del estudio dentro de la franquicia. Espero que sigan tomando buenas decisiones, siempre pensando fuera de la caja.

O estúdio responsável pela franquia continua buscando uma nova visão para esse universo particular do espião britânico mais famoso do mundo, e com certeza, ter um diretor com uma percepção cinematográfica tão aguçada igual como a do Villeneuve para guiar o projeto foi uma decisão assertiva.

Não há dúvidas da competência do Villeneuve como cineasta, mas mesmo gostando muito do trabalho dele, eu ainda acho que à visão dele para uma franquia tão fidelizada quanto a saga do James Bond pode ser algo arriscado. Por outro lado, eu estou muito esperançoso e satisfeito porque algo totalmente inesperado pode acontecer (particularmente falando, eu já torcia por uma renovação substancial e acredito que isso vai acontecer justamente nessa próxima “fase”). Novos desafios estão por vir e podem remodelar a franquia.

Essa nova fase criativa da franquia realmente está começando com o pé direito a nova jornada, que com certeza ainda deve ser um pouco longa porque ainda precisam anunciar não apenas o próximo intérprete, mas também todo o resto do elenco, assim como a equipe de roteiristas (que com certeza não será composta apenas um roteirista) e os demais aspectos técnicos. Até lá, só nos resta esperar para ver quais serão as próximas escolhas do estúdio dentro da franquia. Espero que eles continuem fazendo boas escolhas, sempre pensando "fora da caixa".

It's been a while since I've seen a movie, and I remember reading the review of this film, so I thought, I'll take advantage of it and see how it turns out.

Final Destination is a prequel or continuation of the other stories. I only vaguely remember them, and I'd forgotten how bloody it was. Lots of morbid scenes, excessive blood. That was my least favorite part, not to mention the rest, hahaha.

In this film, we see a young girl haunted by a dream from her past, in which her grandmother was involved. In search of the truth, she stumbled upon an old premonition involving her entire family. It's that no one can escape death. It somehow finds you and takes you away.

That's basically what this story is about, and all these final-destination films. Everyone thought they could trick her, escape, save themselves, but every effort was in vain, and they all come to their end.

Regarding the scenes and performances we see in this film, everything seemed so absurd to me from beginning to end. Every death made no sense, but if I remember correctly, that's what all the plots of this saga are based on: completely gruesome and absurd deaths that happened in an ordinary, unexpected, and out-of-character way. The characters didn't make much of an impact either, starting with the girl, the protagonist. I didn't feel any connection with her. It seemed like she lacked more emotion, commitment, that fear, that panic about everything that was happening. I guess everything happened too fast, and there was no time to react.

I won't say it was a masterpiece, but it wasn't that bad either. It was a bit entertaining, of course, for the length of the film. There were very few morbid and bloody scenes, some drama, and suspense, which was what you'd expect from this film.

If you don't know what to watch and you like stories with these kinds of scenes, this movie is for you. If not, skip ahead. I should have. 😂🙈

Hello friends! Today I bring you the review of a movie that I saw recently with zero expectations thinking it was just another teenage story, but it ended up surprising me for the better. I'm talking about Winter Spring Summer or Fall in its original language.

Trama - Plot

La historia gira en torno a Remi, una chica que se preparó toda su vida para entrar a la mejor universidad. Hasta que un día conoce a Barnes, el típico adolescente que llega a su vida para dar vueltas sus planes. Ambos son muy diferentes, Remi sabe lo que quiere para su futuro y Barnes no, va dando tumbos por la vida. Sin embargo, la atracción es inmediata y Remi decide darle una oportunidad a este amor al menos hasta que sea el momento de ir a la universidad.

The story revolves around Remi, a girl who prepared her whole life to get into the best college. Until one day she meets Barnes, the typical teenager who comes into her life to turn her plans upside down. Both are very different, Remi knows what she wants for her future and Barnes does not, he is stumbling through life. However, the attraction is immediate and Remi decides to give this love a chance at least until it's time to go to college.

Reseña - Review

Como les decía, pensé que iba a ser otra película de esas medias tontas, pero me equivoque. Es una muy linda historia que nos muestra las complejidades de la adolescencia y como en esa etapa puede haber gente que ya sabe lo que quiere para su futuro (que afortunados) y otros a los que les cuesta más descubrirlo. También nos muestra ciertos prejuicios que podemos tener hacia las personas, incluso hasta a mí me hizo dudar, pensé que Barnes era el típico chico malo que iba a llevar a Remi por el mal camino, pero fue todo lo contrario. Creo que Remi ayudó un montón a Barnes a crecer y todo lo que ocurrió fue necesario para fortalecer su relación y construir algo sano.

As I said, I thought it was going to be another one of those silly movies, but I was wrong. It is a very nice story that shows us the complexities of adolescence and how at that stage there may be people who already know what they want for their future (how fortunate) and others who have a harder time discovering it. It also shows us certain prejudices that we can have towards people, even to me it made me doubt, I thought Barnes was the typical bad boy who was going to lead Remi astray, but it was the opposite. I think Remi helped Barnes grow up a lot and everything that happened was necessary to strengthen their relationship and build something healthy.

Esta relación se forma a lo largo de todas las estaciones, vemos como se conocen un día de invierno y así se van viendo una vez por estación, hasta llegar al verano donde deciden dar rienda suelta a sus sentimientos y viven una hermosa historia que se verá un poco truncada por las confusiones y los enredos de la vida.

This relationship is formed throughout the seasons, we see how they meet one winter day and so they see each other once a season, until they reach the summer where they decide to give free rein to their feelings and live a beautiful story that will be a little truncated by the confusions and entanglements of life.

La verdad es que me encantó como estuvo contada la historia, me resultó muy entretenida y pude empatizar con los protagonistas. A pesar de ser polos opuestos en principio. Ambos se complementan muy bien y me gustó eso de que uno nunca sabe cuando va a conocer a alguien que te inspire a ser tu mejor versión a pesar de las dificultades.

The truth is that I loved how the story was told, I found it very entertaining and I could empathize with the protagonists. Despite being polar opposites in principle. They both complement each other very well and I liked the fact that you never know when you will meet someone who inspires you to be your best self despite the difficulties.

En definitiva, me gustó muchísimo la historia. Me ofreció más de lo esperado y me gusta cuando esto sucede porque me sorprende. Sin dudas, fue una muy buena idea verla, pase un rato agradable, me deje cautivar por este amor juvenil y disfrute de la historia sin muchas vueltas. Es una película que recomendaría a todos los adolescentes y a los que les gustan este tipo de tramas que muestran más de lo que dicen a simple vista. Me resultó muy linda, así que está más que recomendada por mi parte. 

All in all, I really enjoyed the story. It offered me more than I expected and I like it when this happens because it surprises me. Undoubtedly, it was a very good idea to watch it, I had a good time, I let myself be captivated by this young love and enjoyed the story without many twists and turns. It is a movie that I would recommend to all teenagers and to those who like this kind of plots that show more than what they say at first sight. I found it very cute, so it is more than recommended by me.

Synopsis: When a family moves into a new house in the suburbs, they are convinced that they are not alone after a traumatic event.

One of the main characteristics of horror movies based on the supernatural aspect is to make people have an immersive experience within the narrative that is being developed. All the “small” details count, and it is necessary to pay attention to each one of them in order to make the most of the experience that a production within this cinematic genre brings. This was the intention of this project, which despite being well-intentioned and relatively interesting, ended up losing its purpose by always going around in tiresome circles.

In the plot, a family has just bought a new house in the suburbs. They are recovering from some personal problems, and one of them is precisely the unstable relationship they have with their youngest daughter, after she lost her best friend (who was murdered). However, shortly after they start living in this place, they realize that something is wrong there. An entity lives in the house, and it is precisely Chloe who maintains a kind of “connection” with what can’t be seen, creating a very turbulent situation as no one believes what she says.

There is no great mystery to be unraveled here (which ends up being a relatively bad point because it generates a possible lack of interest in those who are watching the movie... at least that is how I felt most of the time), and within a simplistic plot, the script tries to “hook” the audience with another bait: the perception of how everything happens. Traditionally, it is the audience that follows what happens in the stories through the characters' point of view, but here, the opposite happens: the point of view to be observed is that of the entity.

The “camera game” is the great asset of this movie, which, despite having an irritatingly slow pace throughout its poor development, still manages to be somewhat attractive by offering the audience an immersion well directed by Steven Soderbergh (who, by the way, did a positively good job... considering the fact that he is a director who does not usually work with this cinematographic genre), which could have been even better if the script written by David Koepp had been more dynamic and meaningful, by showing an entity as the real protagonist.

Aesthetically, there is evident care with the production of this movie. Narratively, everything is very simple (in fact, the characters end up suffering because of this, because there is no depth whatsoever about everything that happens to them and this is very frustrating because there is nothing substantial about them), but the visual part is exquisite and, in many scenes, it seems as if the audience is playing some kind of video game in the first person. Whenever the focus is on the entity, we can perceive the small details that support the narrative and a “dark” climate of “voyeurism”.

Unfortunately, this wasn't enough to make the movie more daring. There are few suspenseful scenes, with a reasonable level of fear, and the drama, in general, is poorly explored. There's no way to create empathy for any of the characters, especially since the movie is 80 minutes long (and most of it has the entity as the main character). Any and all more robust ideas end up being "eroded" by escapist decisions, which, by the way, are edited by dry cuts of scenes, fostering the idea that this movie has something experimental in its entire conception.

The performances are wavering everywhere, and the only important name in the cast is Lucy Liu, who, like all the other characters, can't do anything special with what the script gave her. Any and all chances to create some more predominant tension are "swallowed up" by a great "stagnation" where it seems that nothing relevant to the plot happens. The characters just “parade” through different rooms of the house without bringing anything that captures the attention of those watching the movie, and even the entity does not end up having all its due recognition.

Presence relies on a narrative subjectivity that does not provide any further explanations, but merely flirts with some aspects of the genre in an attempt to “intrigue” the audience. Although it brings some very interesting criticisms (such as the broken relationship between a family seeking reconciliation and the very harmful behavior of generation Z in today’s society), the script is almost inert, with extremely specific moments that give the movie a lifespan that is lost due to the lack of new narrative elements. In short, here is a good idea, but with very poor execution.

Una de las principales características del cine de terror basado en lo sobrenatural es ofrecer a los espectadores una experiencia inmersiva dentro de la narrativa que se desarrolla. Todos los pequeños detalles cuentan, y es necesario prestar atención a cada uno de ellos para aprovechar al máximo la experiencia que ofrece una producción de este género cinematográfico. Esta era la intención de este proyecto, que a pesar de ser bienintencionado y relativamente interesante, terminó perdiendo su propósito al dar vueltas en círculos tediosos.

En la trama, una familia acaba de comprar una casa nueva en las afueras. Se recuperan de algunos problemas personales, y uno de ellos es precisamente la inestable relación que mantienen con su hija menor, tras la pérdida de su mejor amiga (quien fue asesinada). Sin embargo, poco después de comenzar a vivir en este lugar, se dan cuenta de que algo anda mal. Una entidad vive en la casa, y es precisamente Chloe quien mantiene una especie de "conexión" con lo invisible, creando una situación muy turbulenta, ya que nadie cree en lo que dice.

No hay un gran misterio que desentrañar (lo cual termina siendo un punto relativamente malo porque genera una posible falta de interés en quienes ven la película... al menos así me sentí la mayor parte del tiempo), y dentro de una trama simplista, el guion intenta "enganchar" al público con otro cebo: la percepción de cómo sucede todo. Tradicionalmente es el público el que sigue lo que sucede en las historias a través del punto de vista de los personajes, pero aquí ocurre lo contrario: el punto de vista a observar es el del ente.

El "juego de cámara" es la gran baza de esta película, que, a pesar de su ritmo irritantemente lento durante su pobre desarrollo, logra resultar atractiva al ofrecer al público una inmersión bien dirigida por Steven Soderbergh (quien, por cierto, hizo un trabajo realmente bueno, considerando que no es un director que suela trabajar con este género cinematográfico), que podría haber sido aún mejor si el guion de David Koepp hubiera sido más dinámico y significativo, mostrando a una entidad como el verdadero protagonista.

Estéticamente, se aprecia un cuidado evidente en la producción de esta película. Narrativamente, todo es muy simple (de hecho, los personajes acaban sufriendo por ello, ya que no hay profundidad en todo lo que les sucede, lo cual resulta muy frustrante, ya que carecen de sustancia), pero el apartado visual es exquisito y, en muchas escenas, parece como si el público estuviera jugando a algún tipo de videojuego en primera persona. Siempre que el foco está puesto en la entidad, podemos percibir los pequeños detalles que sostienen la narrativa y un clima “oscuro” de “voyeurismo”.

Desafortunadamente, esto no fue suficiente para hacer la película más audaz. Hay pocas escenas de suspenso, con un nivel razonable de miedo, y el drama, en general, está poco explorado. Es imposible crear empatía con ninguno de los personajes, especialmente considerando que la película dura 80 minutos (y la mayor parte tiene a la entidad como protagonista). Cualquier idea más sólida termina siendo "erosionada" por decisiones escapistas, que, por cierto, se ven alteradas por cortes de escenas secos, lo que fomenta la idea de que esta película tiene algo experimental en toda su concepción.

Uma das principais características dos filmes de horror que tem como base o aspecto sobrenatural, é fazer com que as pessoas consigam ter uma experiência imersiva dentro da narrativa que está sendo desenvolvida. Todos os “pequenos” detalhes contam, e é preciso estar atento a cada um deles para conseguir aproveitar ao máximo a experiência que uma produção dentro desse gênero cinematográfico traz. Essa foi a intenção deste projeto, que apesar de bem intencionado e relativamente interessante, acabou se perdendo dentro da própria proposta ao andar sempre em círculos cansativos.

Performances oscilantes estão por todos os lados, e o único nome de peso no elenco é o da Lucy Liu, que assim como todos os outros personagens, não consegue fazer nada demais com o que foi dado no roteiro. Toda e qualquer chance de criar alguma tensão mais predominante é “engolida” por grande um “marasmo” onde parece que nada de relevante para a trama acontece. Os personagens apenas “desfilam” por diferentes cômodos da casa sem trazer nada que prenda a atenção de quem está assistindo ao filme, e até mesmo a entidade não acaba tendo todo seu devido reconhecimento.

Presença aposta em uma subjetividade narrativa que não traz maiores explicações, apenas flerta com alguns aspectos do gênero para tentar “intrigar” o público. Em síntese, eis aqui uma boa ideia, mas com uma execução bem pobre.
