The story is inspired by 18th century France where our protagonist Oscar Francçois Jarjayes (Lady Oscar) at the age of 14 becomes captain of the royal guard and protector of the new princess Marie Antoinette (yes ladies and gentlemen this is like a timeline of French history XD) where her destiny changes and she must decide between her

As time passes and Marie Antoinette is now queen, Oscar is sent to capture the "Black Knight", a thief who steals from nobles to give to the poor, Oscar with the help of his friend Andre manage to capture him but Andre is injured and the knight too, Oscar asks a doctor to heal them both and in the end they decide to free the Black Knight (at Andre's request). Little by little Oscar sees how the monarchy is falling and the discontent of the people grows stronger to the point that a revolution begins and she decides to fight with the people alongside Regiment B, however days before the revolution begins André confesses to Oscar that he has always been in love with her, Oscar realizes that he has always loved him and reciprocates his love by proposing that after the revolution is over they go to the countryside to live and get married in a church (I will not give more spoilers)

I highly recommend this anime as it is quite deep and shows many perspectives of what was lived in that time and what it was like to be a woman within the French army, especially coming from a family of pure military men as was the case with Oscar, this story focuses more on the life of Marie Antoinette and that of Oscar thus showing their perspectives. This work is quite significant for the development of the Shōjo genre since this anime in general focuses on stories of sexual and romantic complexity (Oscar was in love with the same man who had a lover relationship with Marie Antoinette also many women were interested in Oscar even knowing that she was a woman) and politics as was this historical fact of the revolution, the impact of this anime is also due to the fact that its author wrote the work after having been involved in left-wing parties in Japan in the late 1960s. Thanks to this work, the Shōjo genre went from being only for male viewers to being for an audience of teenagers and young adults, its success was so resounding that it has sold more than 23 million copies around the world.

This anime had its continuation but less known "Eikou no Napoleón" maintains some of the original characters of the Rose of Versailles and is inspired by Napoleon's empire. As a curious fact about The Rose of Versailles, Oscar is inspired by Bjorn Andresen, a real character. As I said before, the movie comes out this 31st and it's going to be great, the animation is already on another level (I love when old animes are brought back to life and with excellent animation) and the soundtrack will be in charge of the same musician who made Shingeki no Kyojin, so each scene is going to be lived intensely, the social themes that this type of anime reflect are very interesting and controversial, The Rose Of Versailles had its criticisms when it was released to the public and it was consolidated as a masterpiece of this genre and of its time, I give it a 10/10 we'll see how the movie is, I have faith in it ☺️✨, if you see it, you will describe why Oscar is the Rose of Versailles.

  3. The Rose of Versailles is perhaps your madeleine of Proust@redanime3263d

review of the anime Lady Oscar (TV)

... but it is not mine, being born in the 90s. The Minikeums generation, not that of the Club Do '. How I would have liked to discover this series before my nine years! For already the magazines Images Doc and my master of CM2 told me about Versailles and the Sun King, the absolute monarchy and the Three Orders. But back to the origins first (which is an emule, but yeah chuis serious logic in my head). Unconditional of the series Utena which pays tribute to it in many aspects - symbolic of the rose and the duels, disguise and cut the costume of the main character, and I forget surely ... It has been a few years since I ' Awaited this discovery. During the first five episodes, I was charmed by the style and the retro animation, as well as by the idea of rewriting History through a plea in favor of Marie Antoinette, victim of her youth, her exile , His boredom and especially the vipers that surrounded him. Long categorized as a frivolous queen par excellence, her spirit and her taste for the arts and sciences are honored today. In this regard, I can only recommend the romantic trilogy of Jean-Paul DESPRAT, including Bleu de Sèvres, Yellow of Naples and Rouge de Paris. But let's get back to our vipers. First of all, I find the Louis XV, Jeanne Du Barry, Thomas de Fersen and other Polignac mother and daughter very well camped. The Louis XVI seems to me caricatured in his obsession with locks-was he not also a great game hunter, a specialist in the military navy? Unfortunately, the only impulses of the heart are not enough to build complex characters, which fall into a cliché too Manichaean; But let us pass. It is first and foremost the lover of modern history, the worshiper of the eighteenth century who never sleeps in me, who rebels little by little.

    • A grand piano, compositions by Erik Satie and Charles Gounod, what do I see, what do I hear? Do not stop at that, kind of maniac. The other ambient music and opening / ending pass well. "Ladies of the court, who are riding on horseback." Good.
    • A horse that treads a leg in full triple gallop, a pause and it starts again! Euuuh ... ok, I do not like the slaughter of the beasts, you also the guys from the studio? You're good guys. "I was forgetting the Colonel of the Guards' under-fighter, who comes back with several registers of the French gratin: - Archivist-genealogist:" Yeah, no worries, you can take everything open-library, all night And it does not matter if you dribble on the pages, it's true that it is teeally drunk to pafe it ". - Groom-servant-boyfriend of childhood: "Too cool guy, I owe one. Grave is drunk, more steeped it is for a teen in heat that my boss picked up in the street, nan But he has sometimes these delusions I tell you not. The girl is trooop dark, once I took it in flag rubbing against his suit I'm juuuure! "But there comes a detail which is not one of them, and which is at the center of many vicissitudes: there are heaps of armed gusses in the presence of the sovereigns and their heirs, as if it were the genus. Well, ladies and gentlemen. The carrying of weapons, whether white or fire, was strictly forbidden on pain of death. It was already like that under Louis XIV. In fact, even under Louis IX it was already hyper-regulated. Hello Regicidal fair or simple settling of accounts between powered aristos of power; The shot carefully mounted was the rule, and all the poisons were not necessarily undetectable ... So yesiii, it is much prettier on the screen to have a bunch of nobles bandaging their ep ... band Nobles who tr ... short, rather than mere courbettes accompanied by feathered hats. You will say, yes, but Oscar? For her beautiful blue eyes with long eyelashes, her immaculate honor with braids and her golden hair with buckles? Yes but no.

And besides, is this archetype of the young knight who sacrifices his life and his femininity, what is he used for? Not to reinterpret history, which I would have preferred. It serves as a ri ... Let's just be a witness. Powerless. A thousand power martyr. I am straight in my boots, I have the friendship of the queen, I feel that the peasants are on the edge of the abyss, and I do what? I cry and do not go beyond the scope of my job as bodyguard to spare the Toinette. Argh, it's so frustrating. You will tell me that this is the time of the Oliver Twist, Sissi the Empress and Four Girls of Doctor March; It is the fashion, in the eighties, the animes that are inspired by European stories to make sell and cry in the huts equipped with cathode televisions. If the conspiracies, the rumors of the corridor still held the road. I was not asking for the Fate / Zero or the Game of Thrones, just a logical trick. Except that it is sometimes frankly wobbly; I will not cite any example under pain of spoil. What has finished, it is not the blondo-tearful nunuche who arrives along the way (although?), But a mistake of animation too. No problem for the fighting with the sword and the steps of dance, there are still great cinema who plant on it (if, yes, I impose limits!). But the guy who receives a saber in his back and jumps back to die properly on the ground and not to crash, as Newton's law has decided, on the said nunuche ... Pity, of Grace , kill me. Here. I am aware of my growing intransigence, which ridiculously sharpens over the years. Nevertheless, give me a Kanashimi no Belladonna, six years older, or Lupine III - Cagliostro Castle, of the same year 1979, and I cry to the genius. Passionate about history, zazzle the kit with the historical mangas of Shadow, to which I would add at least the works of my god-master of the gekiga HIRATA Hiroshi, Arte and even Spice & Wolf in spite of his universe fantasy. For the nostalgic and / or non-manic, you are free to slash me internally. I do the same with the detractors of Star Wars and Conan (movies with Schwarzy) who have rocked my childhood. Here, I screamed my disappointment, thank you for the session AK, and to revise. I go back to my non-virtual couch. Tchüss of a Fantômette les copains. Verdict: 5/10
