Lying is part of our daily lives. We all lie in some way. We all know someone, be it a friend or a family member, who has a reputation as a liar, one of those who are very chatty and tell exaggerated stories. When I run into a cunetero like that, I walk away, I can't stand to have them see me looking like a toilet to swallow their made-up bullshit.

Sometimes, big lies reach a large sector because people need to hear lies. Or maybe they prefer to ignore them, even though the signs that there is a lot of lying are obvious. I have heard many say that ignorance of some things serves to give them a sense of peace. Politicians are the perfect example of the great phonies. They spew lie after lie and the agent of whatever side decides to believe them. People choose to swallow lies because they need to believe in something, for the hope or comfort it will bring them.

How can a man lie in such a way? That would be the first question that would strike them when they see Marco. But the question should be: How can a society allow itself to be deceived? I found the story of Enric Marco fascinating. A liar. An imposter. A shameless one. A man who posed as a survivor of the Flossenbürg concentration camp in Nazi Germany. He wrote a book, wrote articles, chaired the deportees' association, gave lectures on his experience as a concentration camp prisoner and even received official recognition. He was a respected man and seemed to function very well in this environment where he was the center of attention.

Mentir forma parte de nuestra vida cotidiana. Todos mentimos de alguna manera. Todos conocemos a alguien, ya sea un amigo o un familiar, que tiene fama de mentiroso, de esos que son muy charlatanes y cuentan historias exageradas. Cuando me topo con un cunetero así, me alejo, no soporto que me vean cara de retrete para tragarse sus patrañas inventadas.

A veces, las grandes mentiras llegan a un gran sector porque la gente necesita escuchar mentiras. O quizá prefieren ignorarlas, aunque las señales de que hay mucha mentira sean evidentes. He oído a muchos decir que la ignorancia de algunas cosas sirve para tener una sensación de paz. Los políticos son el ejemplo perfecto de los grandes farsantes. Vomitan mentira tras mentira y el agente del bando que sea decide creérselas. La gente decide tragarse las mentiras porque necesita creer en algo, por la esperanza o el consuelo que le aportará.

¿Cómo puede un hombre mentir de tal manera? Sería la primera pregunta que les asaltaría al ver a Marco. Pero la pregunta debería ser: ¿Cómo puede una sociedad dejarse engañar? La historia de Enric Marco me pareció fascinante. Un mentiroso. Un impostor. Un desvergonzado. Un hombre que se hizo pasar por superviviente del campo de concentración de Flossenbürg, en la Alemania nazi. Escribió un libro, redactó artículos, presidió la asociación de deportados, dio conferencias sobre su experiencia como prisionero en el campo de concentración e incluso recibió reconocimiento oficial. Era un hombre respetado y parecía funcionar muy bien en este entorno en el que era el centro de atención.

Marco built his life around lies. He invented his own life and it seems to have always been part of his way of being. There are small flashbacks that illustrate and portray part of his past, which also has unknown areas. A couple of marriages, children with those marriages, everything is shown in a somewhat disguised way, because the veil of lies has covered his entire existence. From being a wimp, to going through a union stage and supposed meetings with anti-Francoist groups. Marco was in reality an opportunist, a rogue who staged his farces to deceive and obtain his benefit, which this time would not be money, he needed something else.

Attention. Ego. To feel important. To be recognized. To be admired. This man, as portrayed in the film, had an excessive need to be admired and respected. An extreme narcissist. Perhaps there is a technical name in psychology for this type of behavior. Someone who, even when unmasked, continues to cling to other lies and seeks always to justify what cannot be justified. This reminds me of many people I have crossed paths with and that there are also many like this on this platform. Do you know any like this around these parts?

Edurd Fernandez gives another great performance. He is an excellent actor. His work is always outstanding and here he transforms himself into that shameless impostor Enric Marco. He has all the energy to guide the story. The face of the lie, his look in front of the mirror that gives him away and how he seems immersed in his own made-up stories, clinging to them until the end of his days. The actor received the Goya for this performance and it is well deserved.

Aitor Arregi and Jon Garaño are in the director's chairs. Both have a very careful trajectory. I recommend you to watch their previous films. Loreak, Handia and La trinchera Infinita. The filmmakers have demonstrated with all their works their talent to tell interesting stories.

Marco construyó su vida en torno a la mentira. Se inventó su propia vida y parece que siempre formó parte de su forma de ser. Hay pequeños flashbacks que ilustran y retratan parte de su pasado, que también tiene zonas desconocidas. Un par de matrimonios, hijos con esos matrimonios, todo se muestra de una forma un tanto disimulada, porque el velo de la mentira ha cubierto toda su existencia. Desde ser un pelele, hasta pasar por una etapa sindical y supuestas reuniones con grupos antifranquistas. Marco era en realidad un oportunista, un pícaro que montaba sus farsas para engañar y obtener su beneficio, que esta vez no sería el dinero, necesitaba otra cosa.

Atención. Ego. Sentirse importante. Ser reconocido. Ser admirado. Este hombre, según el retrato que se observa en la película, tenía una necesidad excesiva de ser admirado y respetado. Un narcisista extremo. Tal vez exista un nombre técnico en psicología para este tipo de comportamiento. Alguien que, aunque sea desenmascarado, sigue aferrándose a otras mentiras y busca siempre justificar lo que no se puede justificar. Esto me recuerda a muchos gente con los que me he cruzado en mi camino y que también hay muchos así en esta plataforma. ¿Conoces alguno así por estos lares?

Eduard Fernández hace otra gran interpretación. Es un excelente actor. Su trabajo es siempre sobresaliente y aquí se transforma en ese impostor desvergonzado que es Enric Marco. Tiene toda la energía para guiar la historia. La cara de la mentira, su mirada frente al espejo que le delata y cómo parece inmerso en sus propias historias inventadas, aferrándose a ellas hasta el final de sus días. El actor recibió el Goya por esta interpretación y bien merecido lo tiene.

Aitor Arregi y Jon Garaño están en las sillas de dirección. Ambos tienen una trayectoria muy cuidada. Os recomiendo ver sus anteriores películas. Loreak, Handia y La trinchera Infinita. Los cineastas han demostrado con todos sus trabajos su talento para contar historias interesantes.

On a night marked by diversity among its nominees, the 97th edition of the Oscars brought incredible results. In their midst, the long-awaited victory for Brazilian cinema. I'm Still Here (brilliantly directed by Walter Salles and skillfully starring Fernanda Torres as she manages to vehemently portray one of the worst chapters that Brazilians have ever experienced within the military dictatorship) was nominated in three main categories, but ended up winning as “only” International Feature Film (when in fact it had the potential to win in the other two as well).

Even though it lost in the Best Film and Best Actress categories (in my opinion, unfairly, considering mainly those who won in these respective categories), Brazilian cinema showed its strength by managing to break the American bubble that segregated it, because it is a very low-budget film (when observing international production standards), spoken completely in Portuguese and yet, it had one of the most incredible (and consistent) campaigns of all time. We literally reached the top of the global cinematic world.

As a Brazilian, and completely in love with cinema, I couldn't be happier with what happened. I watched the entire ceremony and gradually became anxious until I reached the categories in which Brazil was competing and at the moment of victory, I became very emotional and spilled the emotion through a feeling of great happiness, because that moment was the materialization of a wish that had been kept for a long time (and which, in fact, had already been deserved by Brazil for many years). We don't need the Oscars to be victorious, but it's good that we have it.

The appreciation of cinema made in Brazil has now reached a new level. We are showing the world what we can do within the Seventh Art. The reach of our work is universal. The celebration of culture made in Brazilian cinema was the big prize of the night. We relive a historical nightmare from the past to remind everyone of what we should never forget, and with that, we enter the history of world cinema. Today will never be forgotten, because it was the day Brazil won its first Oscars... And it reaffirmed its value to this industry.

Considering all the Oscar nominations that Brazil already has (at least so far), in the category of Best International Film alone, we already have 05 nominations. In total (along with the other categories), we have 17 nominations, and this number will certainly increase in the coming years, because this recent victory will open doors for other Brazilian productions to be more duly recognized. Even though there is American “protectionism” among those who vote to elect Oscars winners, the fact that Brazil won yesterday, shows that things are more evolved.

The international recognition scenario for films still has a long way to go to enter the American hall. I know that the selectivity (and predilection) for American products will still prevail for a few more years, but the resistance of global cinema will at some point “flood” Hollywood. At the moment, they are more punctual “floods”, but eventually, Americans will finally understand that the Seventh Art is not just about what they do. Cinema is plural, and should be treated as such, because we are and have stories as important as cinema.

Se hizo historia. Reventamos la burbuja.

En una noche marcada por la diversidad entre sus nominados, la 97ª Edición de los Oscar arrojó resultados increíbles. En medio de ellos, la tan esperada victoria del cine brasileño. Aún estoy aquí (brillantemente dirigida por Walter Salles y protagonizada hábilmente por Fernanda Torres mientras logra retratar con vehemencia uno de los peores capítulos que los brasileños hayan vivido dentro de la dictadura militar) fue nominada en tres categorías principales, pero terminó ganando como “única” Mejor Película Internacional (cuando en realidad tenía potencial para ganar también en las otras dos).

Aunque perdió en las categorías de Mejor Película y Mejor Actriz (en mi opinión, injustamente, considerando principalmente a los que ganaron en esas respectivas categorías), el cine brasileño demostró su fuerza al lograr romper la burbuja estadounidense que lo segregaba, porque es una película de muy bajo presupuesto (cuando se observan los estándares de producción internacionales), hablada completamente en portugués y, sin embargo, tuvo una de las campañas más increíbles (y consistentes) de todos los tiempos. Literalmente llegamos a la cima del mundo cinematográfico global.

Como brasileño y completamente enamorado del cine, no podría estar más feliz con lo sucedido. Observé toda la ceremonia y poco a poco me fui inquietando hasta llegar a las categorías en las que Brasil competía y en el momento de la victoria me emocioné mucho y derramé la emoción a través de un sentimiento de gran felicidad, porque ese momento era la materialización de un deseo guardado desde hacía mucho tiempo (y que, de hecho, ya era merecido por Brasil desde hacía muchos años). No necesitamos el Oscar para salir victoriosos, pero es bueno que lo tengamos.

La apreciación del cine hecho en Brasil ha alcanzado ahora un nuevo nivel. Estamos mostrando al mundo lo que podemos hacer dentro del Séptimo Arte. El alcance de nuestro trabajo es universal. La celebración de la cultura hecha en el cine brasileño fue el gran premio de la noche. Revivimos una pesadilla histórica del pasado para recordarles a todos lo que nunca debemos olvidar, y con eso, entramos en la historia del cine mundial. Em uma noite marcada pela diversidade entre os seus indicados, a 97ª edição do Oscar trouxe resultados incríveis. No meio deles, a tão sonhada vitória para o cinema brasileiro. Ainda Estou Aqui (brilhantemente dirigido por Walter Salles e habilmente protagonizado por Fernanda Torres ao conseguir retratar com veemência um dos piores capítulos que os brasileiros já viveram dentro da ditadura militar) foi indicado em três categorias principais, mas acabou ganhando como “apenas” como Melhor Filme Internacional (quando na verdade tinha potencial para ganhar nas outras duas também).

Mesmo perdendo nas categorias de Melhor Filme e Melhor Atriz (na minha opinião, de maneira injusta, considerando principalmente para quem venceu nessas respectivas categorias), o cinema brasileiro mostrou à sua força ao conseguir romper a bolha americana que o segregava, porque é um filme de baixíssimo orçamento (quando observado o padrão internacional de produção), falado completamente em língua portuguesa e ainda sim, teve uma das campanhas mais incríveis (e consistentes) de todos os tempos. Nós literalmente chegamos no topo do mundo cinematográfico mundial.

Enquanto brasileiro, e totalmente apaixonado por cinema, eu não poderia estar mais feliz com o que aconteceu. Assisti a cerimônia inteira e fui, gradualmente, sendo tomado uma ansiedade até chegar as categorias em que o Brasil estava concorrendo e no momento da vitória, eu fiquei bastante emocionado e extravasei a emoção através do gripo de muita felicidade, porque aquele momento foi a materialização de um desejo há muito tempo guardado (e que o na verdade, já era merecido pelo Brasil há muitos anos). Não precisamos do Oscar para sermos vitoriosos, mas que bom que temos.

A valorização do cinema feito pelo Brasil agora atinge um novo patamar. Nós estamos mostrando para o mundo o que nós podemos fazendo dentro da Sétima Arte. O alcance do nosso trabalho é universal. A celebração da cultura feita no cinema brasileiro foi o grande prêmio da noite. Nós revivemos um pesadelo histórico do passado para lembra a todos o que nunca devemos esquecer, e com isso, nós entramos para a história do cinema mundial. O dia de hoje nunca será esquecido, porque foi o dia em que o Brasil ganhou o seu primeiro Oscar... E reafirmou o seu valor para essa indústria.

Considerando todas as indicações ao Oscar que o Brasil já tem (ao menos até agora), apenas na categoria de Melhor Filme Internacional, já somamos 05 indicações. No momento, são “enchentes” mais pontuais, mas eventualmente, os americanos irão finalmente entender que a Sétima Arte não se trata apenas do que eles fazem. O cinema é plural, e deve ser tratado como tal, porque somos e temos estórias importantes quanto as dele.

Thirty-seven years ago there was a horrific terrorist attack, considered the worst ever to occur in the United Kingdom. On a PamAn Airlines commercial flight to the United States, a bomb exploded while flying over Scotland. The entire crew and passengers were killed, and a dozen people from the town of Lockerbie were also killed by falling debris from the plane.

In five episodes we see the event and the subsequent investigation. The Lockerbie miniseries is based on the particular journey of Dr. Jim Swire, a man who from the moment he learns that his daughter was one of the passengers on the plane crash, embarks on a painful and frustrating struggle to find justice and truth.

Some time ago I had seen a documentary about this terrorist attack, which probably very few people outside the UK know anything about today. It was about time that a good production told the story of this mass murder. Thirteen years after that tragedy, the world would change with the attack on the Twin Towers.

Hace 37 años se produjo un horrible atentado terrorista, considerado el peor jamás ocurrido en el Reino Unido. En un vuelo comercial a Estados Unidos de PamAn Airlines, una bomba explotó mientras sobrevolaba Escocia. Murieron toda la tripulación y los pasajeros, y una docena de personas de la localidad de Lockerbie también perdieron la vida por los restos que cayeron del avión.

En cinco episodios vemos el suceso y la investigación posterior. La miniserie Lockerbie se basa en el particular periplo del doctor Jim Swire, un hombre que desde el momento en que se entera de que su hija era una de las pasajeras del avión siniestrado, se embarca en una dolorosa y frustrante lucha por encontrar la justicia y la verdad.

Hace algún tiempo había visto un documental sobre este atentado terrorista, del que probablemente muy pocas personas fuera del Reino Unido sepan algo hoy en día. Ya era hora de que una buena producción contara la historia de este asesinato masivo. Trece años después de aquella tragedia, el mundo cambiaria con el atentado a las Torres Gemelas.

The miniseries aims to be as faithful as possible to the real story, of course dialogues and scenes have been added to make the story attractive to the viewer. In each episode there is an announcement to this effect, clarifying also that some names have been changed. The five episodes are an adaptation of the book written by journalist Peter Biddulph and Jim Swire himself, who is still alive.

Who was behind the bombing? Iran, Libya? What did the British government know? What role did the American CIA play? Is who was accused really guilty? What is true and false in the whole plot? These and many questions that may remain unanswered are captured in the plot of the miniseries. One thing is clear, we simple citizens are nothing more than pawns on a chessboard where powerful governments manipulate us at will. The only thing that matters to them is money and power, so who today is the enemy, tomorrow can be an ally if he gets some benefit or vice versa.

Colin Firth once again excels in his performance. He is in charge of bringing Jim Swire to life. The man who never lets go of his briefcase and always with his badge the phrase find the truth hanging from his suit. The decision of a man who has never stopped searching for the truth of what happened. Immediately after losing his daughter Flora in that attack, he dedicates his whole life to that cause, without caring that some of his decisions are not to the liking of the families of the other victims and even create family problems for him.

I believe he is a man who stays active and in pursuit, because it keeps him busy and with a reason to keep fighting in this unjust world. His daughter had her whole life ahead of her and it was taken away from her because of political ideals, revenge and ineffectiveness of those charged with protecting them. This is the star character of the miniseries and everything revolves around him and his investigation. The rest of the cast, mostly British, fulfill their characters well.

A short miniseries that shows us the investigation and the consequences of a tragedy that could have been avoided. If you like stories based on real events, I recommend it.

La miniserie pretende ser lo más fiel posible a la historia real, por supuesto se han añadido diálogos y escenas para que la historia resulte atractiva al espectador. En cada episodio hay un anuncio en este sentido, aclarando también que se han cambiado algunos nombres. Los cinco episodios son una adaptación del libro escrito por el periodista Peter Biddulph y el propio Jim Swire, que sigue vivo.

¿Quién estaba detrás del atentado? ¿Irán, Libia? ¿Qué sabía el gobierno británico? ¿Qué papel desempeñó la CIA estadounidense? ¿Es realmente culpable quien fue acusado? ¿Qué hay de cierto y de falso en toda la trama? Estas y muchas preguntas que pueden quedar sin respuesta, quedan plasmadas en la trama de la miniserie. Una cosa está clara, los simples ciudadanos no somos más que peones en un tablero de ajedrez donde los poderosos gobiernos nos manipulan a su antojo. Lo único que les importa es el dinero y el poder, por lo que quien hoy es el enemigo, mañana puede ser un aliado si consigue algún beneficio o viceversa.

Colin Firth vuelve a sobresalir en su interpretación. Él es el encargado de dar vida a Jim Swire. El hombre que nunca suelta su maletín y siempre con su placa la frase encontrar la verdad colgada de su traje. La decisión de un hombre que no ha dejado de buscar la verdad de lo sucedido. Inmediatamente después de perder a su hija Flora en aquel atentado, dedica toda su vida a esa causa, sin importarle que algunas de sus decisiones no sean del agrado de las familias de las otras víctimas e incluso le creen problemas familiares.

Creo que es un hombre que se mantiene activo y en persecución, porque le mantiene ocupado y con un motivo para seguir luchando en este mundo injusto. Su hija tenía toda la vida por delante y se la arrebataron por ideales políticos, venganza e ineficacia de los encargados de protegerlos. Este es el personaje estrella de la miniserie y todo gira en torno a él y su investigación. El resto del reparto, en su mayoría británicos, cumplen bien con sus personajes.

Una miniserie corta que nos muestra la investigación y las consecuencias de una tragedia que podría haberse evitado. Si te gustan las historias basadas en hechos reales, te la recomiendo.

After 25 years, Brazil gets a place in the Oscars spotlight again. More specifically, three places. The movie I'm Still Here got nominations for Best Film, Best International Film and Best Actress. A feat that materializes as something that had never been done by Brazilian cinema until then. The movie's central plan is a very horrendous period in Brazilian history, the dictatorship (which in this case, is shown through the eyes of a single family).

Walter Salles is the director behind the project, and here, he once again delivers excellent work. The deep level of the plot touches the audience's sensitivity, who are easily moved by the story being told on screen, and which becomes even more exciting because it was based on real events. Fernanda Torres plays Eunice Paiva, a housewife who needs to reinvent herself to deal with the murder of her husband, Rubens... by agents of the dictatorship.

There is a very efficient mix between personal drama and political drama. Something very well thought out, written, staged and executed (by an incredible cast). Never before in the history of Brazilian cinema, has a movie managed to be as prominent as this one, and the Brazilian people have embraced this project in a surreal way. Support has been practically unanimous, and has brought together many people... Of different faiths, races, colors, political sides and social classes.

Even the country's economy has been positively affected by this cinematographic feat (which, regardless of a victory or not, is already making a real splash). The Oscars broadcast will take place during Carnival (which is one of the most powerful cultural events in the world), and many entrepreneurs who work with services (such as bars and restaurants) have prepared themselves to take advantage of this moment... Which will certainly be profitable.

Around the world, the movie is gaining more and more recognition and this can easily be seen by the numerous awards that this project has already won. A minimalist work recreating the city of Rio de Janeiro in the 70s, and which also has an extremely deep historical basis, capable of showing the younger generation the horror that happened during the military dictatorship (at least part of it) and reviving this memory in the older generation.

The movie is still showing in theaters, and to date, it has grossed more than US$ 27 million worldwide (which is incredible for a Brazilian movie), attracting more than 4 million viewers to theaters. A revival not only for the movie industry (which has needed this for years), but for the history of a country that makes art one of its main pillars (even if the government itself doesn’t see it that way). This is being pretty incredible!

“Aún estoy aquí”, una conmoción nacional.

Después de 25 años, Brasil vuelve a tener un lugar en el foco de los Oscar. Más concretamente, tres lugares. La película Aún estoy aqui obtuvo nominaciones a Mejor Película, Mejor Película Internacional y Mejor Actriz. Una hazaña que se materializa como algo nunca antes realizado por el cine brasileño. El plan central de la película es un período muy horrendo de la historia brasileña, la dictadura (que en este caso, se muestra a través de los ojos de una sola familia).

Walter Salles es el director detrás del proyecto y aquí, una vez más, realiza un excelente trabajo. El nivel profundo de la trama toca la sensibilidad del público, que se conmueve fácilmente con la historia que se cuenta en la pantalla, y que se vuelve aún más emocionante porque está basada en hechos reales. Fernanda Torres interpreta a Eunice Paiva, una ama de casa que necesita reinventarse para afrontar el asesinato de su marido, Rubens... a manos de agentes de la dictadura.

Hay una mezcla muy eficiente entre drama personal y drama político. Algo muy bien pensado, escrito, escenificado y ejecutado (por un elenco increíble). Nunca antes en la historia del cine brasileño una película logró ser tan destacada como ésta, y el pueblo brasileño ha acogido este proyecto de una manera surrealista. El apoyo ha sido prácticamente unánime, y ha unido a muchas personas... De diferentes credos, razas, colores, bandos políticos y clases sociales.

Incluso la economía del país se ha visto afectada positivamente por esta hazaña cinematográfica (que, independientemente de una victoria o no, ya está causando un gran revuelo). La retransmisión de los Oscar se realizará durante el Carnaval (que es uno de los eventos culturales más potentes del mundo), y muchos empresarios que trabajan con servicios (como bares y restaurantes) se han preparado para aprovechar este momento... Que sin duda será rentable.

En todo el mundo, la película está ganando cada vez más reconocimiento y esto se puede comprobar por los numerosos premios que este proyecto ya ha ganado. Una obra minimalista que recrea la ciudad de Río de Janeiro en los años 70, y que además tiene una base histórica muy profunda, capaz de mostrar a las generaciones más jóvenes el horror ocurrido durante la dictadura militar (al menos parte de ella) y revivir esta memoria en las generaciones mayores.

La película todavía se exhibe en los cines y, hasta la fecha, ha recaudado más de 27 millones de dólares en todo el mundo (lo cual es increíble para una película brasileña), atrayendo a más de 4 millones de espectadores a las salas. Un renacimiento no sólo para la industria cinematográfica (que lo necesita desde hace años), sino para la historia de un país que hace del arte uno de sus principales pilares (aunque el propio gobierno no lo vea así). ¡Esto está siendo bastante increíble!

”Ainda Estou Aqui”, uma comoção nacional.

Após 25 anos, o Brasil consegue um lugar sob os holofotes do Oscar novamente. Mais especificamente, três lugares. O filme Ainda Estou Aqui conseguiu indicações a Melhor Filme, Melhor Filme Internacional e Melhor Atriz. Um feito que se materializa como algo que nunca havia sido feito pelo cinema brasileiro até então. O filme tem como plano central um período bem horrendo da história brasileira, a ditadura (que neste caso, é mostrada sob os olhos de uma única família).

Walter Salles é o diretor por trás do projeto, e aqui, ele mais uma vez entrega um excelente trabalho. O nível profundo da trama toca a sensibilidade do público, que facilmente se emociona com a estória que está sendo contada na tela, e que se torna ainda mais emocionante porque foi algo baseado em fatos reais. Fernanda Torres vive Eunice Paiva, uma dona de casa que precisa se reinventar para lidar com o assassinato do seu marido, Rubens... Por agentes da ditadura.

Há uma mistura muito eficiente entre drama pessoal e drama político. Algo muito bem pensando, escrito, encenado e executado (por um elenco que aliás, é incrível). Nunca antes na história do cinema brasileiro, um filme conseguiu estar tão em evidência quanto este, e o povo brasileiro tem abraçado este projeto de uma maneira surreal. O apoio tem sido praticamente unânime, e tem unido muitas pessoas... De diferentes credos, raças, cores, lados políticos e classe sociais.

Até mesmo a economia do país tem sido positivamente afetada por este feito cinematográfico (que independente de uma vitória ou não, já está fazendo um verdadeiro barulho). A transmissão do Oscar vai acontecer durante o Carnaval (que é uma das manifestações culturais mais poderosas do mundo), e muitos empresários que trabalham com serviços (como os bares e restaurantes) tem se preparado para aproveitar esse momento... Que certamente será algo rentável.

Ao redor do mundo, o filme vem ganhando cada vez mais reconhecimento e isso pode ser facilmente constatado pelos inúmeros prêmios que esse projeto já ganhou. Um trabalho minimalista ao recriar a cidade do Rio de Janeiro da década de 70, e que também tem uma base histórica extremamente profunda, capaz de mostrar a geração mais nova, o horror que aconteceu durante a ditadura militar (ao menos uma parte dela) e reavivar essa memória na geração mais antiga.

O filme ainda segue em exibição nos cinemas, e até o momento, já arrecadou mais de US$ 27 milhões mundialmente (o que é incrível para um filme brasileiro), atraindo mais de 4 milhões de telespectadores para os cinemas. Um revival não apenas para a indústria cinematográfica (que há anos precisava disso), mas para a história de um país que faz da arte um dos seus principais pilares (ainda que o próprio governo não o veja dessa forma). Isso está sendo bem incrível!

Anora entiende el Ruso porque lo aprendió de una de sus abuelas, lo habla poco, sin embargo, le sirvió para comunicarse con uno de los clientes del bar, un ruso que llegó a los Estados Unidos a divertirse.

La última escena es una muestra de esto, a ella le muestran un poco de respeto y cariño y ella paga con sexo, pues no sabe expresar de otra forma un agradecimiento, reflejo de baja autoestima y soledad. En esta película encontrarás aparte de la comedia, el drama y el romance y algo de suspenso. Es buena para pasar un rato.

No puede ser lo emocional que soy con las películas del Rey León, desde que empezó sentí una grata emoción por descubrir esta nueva historia. La verdad es que había escuchado cosas al respecto, pero verlo es diferente, entendí mejor y me pareció que supo desenvolverse bastante bien uniendo la historia que conocemos con esta especie de secuela ambientada en el pasado. Incluso se las ingenio para dar golpes bajos como la relación que tenía Mufasa con Taka y que terminara cómo lo hizo, me generó mucha pena. 

It can't be how emotional I am with the Lion King movies, since it started I felt a pleasant excitement to discover this new story. The truth is that I had heard things about it, but seeing it is different, I understood it better and it seemed to me that he knew how to develop quite well uniting the story we know with this kind of sequel set in the past. He even managed to give low blows like the relationship Mufasa had with Taka and that it ended the way it did, I felt very sorry for him.

Pero amé cómo se fue dando todo y me gustó el giro que le dieron a la historia original. Así que me agrado bastante la película. También adoré las nuevas canciones, me encantó ver a los personajes que conocimos en su versión más joven como Rafiki, Zazu y Sarabi. Además, tenemos nuevos villanos, que son necesarios para que se desarrolle la trama.  

But I loved how it all came together and I liked the twist they put on the original story. So I liked the movie quite a bit. I also loved the new songs, I loved seeing the characters we met in their younger version like Rafiki, Zazu and Sarabi. Plus, we got new villains, which are necessary for the plot to develop.

Me gustó ver cómo se dio el romance entre Mufasa y Sarabi, pero también me generó tristeza que un amor tan bonito haya acabado como lo hizo, producto de los celos y la envidia de Scar. Me da mucha bronca (si, no se separar la ficción de la realidad y menos en una película que marcó mi infancia y me hizo llorar a mares con la muerte de Mufasa en su momento). Esta película le hecho un poco de sal a la herida, pero ya estoy bien. 

I liked to see how the romance between Mufasa and Sarabi happened, but it also made me sad that such a beautiful love ended the way it did, because of Scar's jealousy and envy. It makes me very angry (yes, I don't know how to separate fiction from reality, especially in a movie that marked my childhood and made me cry my eyes out with Mufasa's death at the time). This movie rubbed a little salt in the wound, but I'm fine now.

Bueno, volviendo. Me gustó que hayan narrado la historia de Mufasa para las nuevas generaciones, que conozcan quién fue este gran rey león que todavía sigue más vigente que nunca. Así que es una película que recomiendo ver en familia o solos para contentar a su niño interior y seguir llorando a mares con películas de este estilo. Tan solo soy una chica Disney.

Well, coming back. I liked that they have narrated the story of Mufasa for the new generations, that they know who was this great lion king who is still more relevant than ever. So it's a movie that I recommend watching as a family or alone to please your inner child and keep crying your eyes out for movies like this. I'm just a Disney girl.

Hablemos de esta película, denominada SEIS TRIPLE OCHO, el cual nos relata la historia de este batallón de mujeres afroamericanas que sirvieron en la Segunda Guerra Mundial, las cuales fueron enviadas al extranjero para hacerse cargo del correo, que llevaba años acumulándose, sin poder ser entregados a los soldados, así como a sus familiares.

Estas mujeres buscaron entrenarse de la mejor manera posible, pues su objetivo era también participar en la guerra, pero no muchos estaban de acuerdo, principalmente por ser mujeres de color, es por ello que ellas deseaban demostrarles lo equivocado que estaban; por ende, le pusieron esta misión, la de los correos, pensando que no lo lograrían, puesto que era un trabajo bastante complicado, pero dichas mujeres estaban dispuestas a demostrarles lo contrario, lo hábiles que podían llegar a ser para cumplir con su misión.

Su título no tiene misterios, con él se revela un amor que no puede vivirse, que es prohibido, pero ¿por qué y entre quienes?, para poder hacer la reseña de esta producción advierto que daré spoiler sobre la historia, pero incluso si la lees y quieres ver esta novela que te recomiendo 100% no disminuirá su disfrute.

Estos tres personajes, Bihter, Adnan y Behlül desde que aparecieron se podía ver la posibilidad de un triángulo amoroso, pero el desarrollo de los personajes principales no fue lo único hizo de amor prohibido un éxito fue el conjunto de todos los que participaron en ella, incluso los personajes secundarios como los que personifican las personas de servicio.

Yo comencé a ver la novela en pleno matrimonio de Bihter, sé lo que sucedió antes por el recurso de flashback que utilizan, al principio nadie estaba de acuerdo con esa boda, ni los hijos de señor, ni la madre de Bihter, y muchos menos el hijo adoptivo, todos se oponían porque es el caso común de un hombre mayor y millonario que se casa con una mujer joven, pero al poco tiempo la novela dio un giro que me confundió se veían la esposa joven interesada sinceramente en Adnan, parecía que lo amaba y quería ganarse los hijos de su esposo y llevarse bien con todos incluso la servidumbre.

One of the main characters Behlül ended up losing his sanity, as I said a movie ending.

This production was very good, they showed the beautiful countries of Turkey, the costumes and jewelry of the wealthy characters, luxury cars, as for the message it was loaded with values that were reinforced to show the anti-values, highlighting common sense. Su final es de película de Hollywood, impactante, primera vez que veo una novela que queda sin protagonista y donde sucede desde un suicidio, hasta muertes naturales, esta novela no termina con celebración de bodas ni felicidad. Uno de los protagonistas Behlül terminó perdiendo la cordura, como dije un final de película.

Esta producción fue muy buena, mostraron los países hermosos de Turquía, el vestuario y joyas de los personajes acaudalados, carros de lujo, en cuanto al mensaje estuvo cargado de valores que se repotenciaron a mostrar los antivalores, resaltando el sentido común. Mostraron que la diferencia de edad si importa, que las acciones tienen consecuencias y que por un momento de pasión puedes cargar una culpa para siempre, las mentiras casi siempre salen a la luz y terminan afectando a las personas engañadas, la lealtad no se compra y ser agradecido es muy bonito.

Durante la transmisión de esta novela sufrí mucho, porque a veces la suspendían por transmitir juegos deportivos, o nos cortaban la electricidad, no quería perderme nada y era mi tiempo sagrado, en ese espacio no atendía nada, se las recomiendo si no las visto te aseguro que te gustará.

Robert de Niro, a Hollywood legend who seems to have resumed the roles for which he achieved worldwide notoriety. It is true that he had a long season in which he decided to be in not so good movies, but the mime said some time ago that he just wanted to get paid and have a good time. It's a valid point, he was already a star who could do whatever he wanted, but since he came back to collaborate with Sorcorse, he's back to roles I like.

This miniseries is created for his total showcasing. He is the protagonist and the story revolves around his character. De Niro plays George Mullen, a former president of the United States who only had one term and ended up resigning, but who, according to the plot, is loved and respected by the population. The reasons for his resignation will be revealed as the story unfolds.

What happens when a terrorist attack threatens the security of the nation, and is it right to violate constitutional and civil rights? This is one of the dilemmas posed in the miniseries. Mullen is chosen by the President of the United States to head the Day Zero commission, charged with investigating and finding the culprits behind a cyber-attack that left more than a thousand dead. Mullen is a law-abiding man, but at the same time he is affected by something strange. He hallucinates, he hears noises, he has time lapses. His mind doesn't seem to be right and can lead him to make mistakes that call into question his ability.

Es un punto válido, ya era una estrella que podía hacer lo que quisiera, pero desde que volvió a colaborar con Sorcorse, ha vuelto a papeles que me gustan.

Esta miniserie está creada para su total lucimiento. Él es el protagonista y la historia gira en torno a su personaje. Who is the enemy - Russia, China, an internal group? Many ramifications are woven into an attack surrounded by conspiracy theories. The new war is digital and the enemy can be anywhere, even within the government itself. The typical conspiracies of these thrillers, with spies, villains who only seek power and money, political betrayals, there is a whole cocktail that makes the plot entertaining and does not lose interest. Although for me the last episode was too long for what should close , but everything is to enjoy Rober De Niro.

Of course there are political references following the Hollywood trend. The really bad politicians seem to be the Republicans and the not so bad ones the Democrats. The president is a woman of African descent, surely the creators thought Kamala would win and wanted to gain sympathy with her. There are also villains who own hedge funds. One scene even reminded me of the ultimate fate of Epstein and McAffee. There is a tech billionaire in the series who also villains, only in this case she is female. Admittedly, the only character who is very good is the one played by De Niro, but he also has his secrets and ghosts from the past.

There are situations that I found somewhat implausible, but since it's something to kill time, I'm not going to get too picky about it. Likewise, the whole secret weapon (Proteos) thing comes to nothing, at the end I was left wondering if it was put into practice or if it's just old man ravings.

There's a good cast backing up De Niro. Already familiar faces in movies and series that perfectly fulfill the assigned roles. The fate of some will be quite black and it is not that they earn much sympathy from the viewer.

¿Quién es el enemigo? ¿Rusia, China, un grupo interno? Muchas ramificaciones se entretejen en un ataque rodeado de teorías conspirativas. La nueva guerra es digital y el enemigo puede estar en cualquier parte, incluso dentro del propio gobierno. Las conspiraciones típicas de estos thrillers , con espías , villanos que solo buscan poder y dinero, traiciones políticas , hay todo un cóctel que hacen que la trama sea entretenida y no pierda interés. Aunque para mi el último episodio se me hizo demasiado largo para lo que debería cerrar , pero todo sea por disfrutar de Rober De Niro.

Por supuesto hay referencias políticas siguiendo la tendencia de Hollywood. Los políticos malos malísimos parecen ser los republicanos y los no tan malos los demócratas. El presidente es una mujer afrodescendiente, seguramente los creadores pensaron que Kamala ganaría y quisieron ganar simpatías con ella. También hay villanos propietarios de fondos de cobertura. Una escena incluso me recordó al destino final de Epstein y McAffee. Hay un millonario de la tecnología en la serie que también villano, sólo que en este caso es mujer. Es cierto que el único personaje que está muy bien es el interpretado por De Niro, pero también tiene sus secretos y fantasmas del pasado.

Hay situaciones que me parecieron algo inverosímiles, pero como es algo para matar el tiempo, no me voy a poner muy quisquilloso al respecto. Del mismo modo, todo el asunto del arma secreta (Proteos) no llega a nada, al final me quedé con la duda de si se puso en práctica o si sólo son desvaríos del viejo.

Hay un buen reparto respaldando a De Niro. Caras ya conocidas en películas y series que cumplen perfectamente con los papeles asignados. El destino de algunos será bastante negro y no es que se ganen mucha simpatía del espectador.

Synopsis: Emily and Matt are two former high-level CIA agents. They are forced back into the world of espionage after their new secret identities are accidentally revealed.

Action movies with different light and very uncompromising flavors (fostered by comic insertions within a script that is supposedly “serious” between the lines) are an increasingly common trend within Hollywood productions. This movie is definitely no exception to this rule, and it ends up functioning only as functional entertainment that justifies its own existence (that is, it is fun, but automatically forgettable). Don't expect anything too much, but at the same time... If you embark on this adventure, you will certainly find fun.

In the plot, the audience follows the radical change in the lives of two former CIA agents. Emily and Matt are married, and after being away from the spy spotlight for 15 years (after they fell into a trap and decided to abandon this career forever), they have their identities exposed and now they need to get back into action to have a new opportunity to get back to their lives (which in this case, is more complex... because they now have two children). Achieving this will not be easy, but the family will come together to regain the peace of a normal and “civic” life.

The most interesting aspect of this script is how the action, comedy and small dramatic touches tend to naturally flow into the plot. The script doesn't make an effort to create anything complex, but there is a very natural clash of ideas that, at the same time, focuses on great action scenes mixed with the concern of parents in the search for the care of their own children (which are placed in the script to be the most "complicating" factors, which ends up being a well-known resource, but which ends up working well due to the chemistry that connects the entire cast).

Initially, while Emily and Matt need to hide their true identities from everyone (including their own children) the script is lighter and even a bit “silly”. However, after they tell their children the truth, the tone of the script changes a little and things become more serious (although it relies on comedy to balance everything that is happening). So... From then on, the movie establishes itself as good fun filled with adrenaline (there are moments of action that are really quite creative and the fight scenes deserve to be highlighted due to their more visceral content).

In the search for a key that could cause real cyber chaos if it falls into the wrong hands, Emily and Matt team up to defeat whoever is behind this plan (which is to hold an “auction” among the heads of criminal organizations in some parts of the world). However, even though the movie is efficient in most of its action scenes, nothing is completely believable when we think on a narrative scale (an example of this is the remarkable ease with which the duo Emily and Matt enter and leave places, thus nullifying the urgency of the suspense that should be caused by the tension).

But Why Tho?

Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx are the protagonists, and the chemistry between them is instant. Together, they bring a much-needed level of empathy so that the audience can care about the fate of their respective characters, as well as self-complementary performances (since they have practically no isolated scenes). After eleven years, it was great to see Diaz returning to making movies, even though this project wasn't exactly a production that will lead to big projects in the future. As a supporting cast, they're minimally important, but they're cool.

Wasting Glenn Close's talent on such an empty character is disappointing, but still, she delivers work that gets straight to the point (and it's always a pleasure to see her in any role). The same can be said of Andrew Scott. Partially written by Seth Gordon, the movie is also directed by himself, on a scale of importance that appears minimal when we see the final result of the project. However, it's still an enjoyable movie if you're not too picky about understanding what the real purpose of it is. The idea here isn't to win an Oscars, it's just to be fun.

Back in Action has no difficulty in doing and delivering the basics, which is why it is assertive entertainment for anyone and everyone looking for temporary and harmless fun. Technically, it is a well-made movie, with fidelity in its “nitroglycerine bombs” (which are efficient due to the great special effects working behind the scenes), and its moments of hand-to-hand combat (which are accompanied by some classic musicals from past decades). Simple and very direct... This is a practical example of a project made directly for any streaming channel.

Esta película definitivamente no es una excepción a esta regla, y termina funcionando sólo como entretenimiento funcional que justifica su propia existencia (es decir, es divertida, pero automáticamente olvidable). No esperes demasiado, pero al mismo tiempo... Si te embarcas en esta aventura, seguro que encontrarás diversión.

En la trama, el público sigue el cambio radical en la vida de dos ex agentes de la CIA. Emily y Matt están casados, y después de estar alejados de los focos de espionaje durante 15 años (después de caer en una trampa y decidir abandonar esta carrera para siempre), tienen sus identidades expuestas y ahora necesitan volver a la acción para tener una nueva oportunidad de volver a sus vidas (que en este caso, es más compleja… porque ahora tienen dos hijos). Lograrlo no será fácil, pero la familia se unirá para recuperar la paz de una vida normal y “cívica”.

Lo más interesante de este guión es cómo la acción, la comedia y los pequeños toques dramáticos tienden a fluir de forma natural en la trama. El guión no se esfuerza en crear nada complejo, pero sí un choque de ideas muy natural que, al mismo tiempo, se centra en grandes escenas de acción mezcladas con la preocupación de los padres en la búsqueda del cuidado de sus propios hijos (que se sitúan en el guión como los factores más "complicadores", lo que acaba siendo un recurso muy conocido, pero que acaba funcionando bien por la química que conecta a todo el reparto).

Inicialmente, aunque Emily y Matt necesitan ocultar sus verdaderas identidades a todos (incluidos sus propios hijos), el guión es más ligero e incluso un poco “tonto”. Inicialmente, enquanto Emily e Matt precisam esconder suas verdadeiras identidades de todo mundo (incluindo seus próprios filhos) o roteiro é mais leve e até meio “bobo”. No entanto, depois que eles contam a verdade para seus filhos o tom do roteiro muda um pouco e as coisas ficam mais sérias (ainda que aposte no teor cômico para contrabalancear tudo o que está acontecendo). One of the great injustices of this awards season is that 5 September is only nominated for an Oscar for screenplay. At the Golden Globes it was only nominated for Best Picture and forgotten in all other categories. Today it is still an issue that can divide opinions. The moral dilemma of the journalist, the great burden he has in his hands to inform, corroborate the information and tell the truth, even if it is very bad news that may even affect him emotionally.

Una de las grandes injusticias de esta temporada de premios es que 5 de septiembre sólo está nominada al Oscar por el guión. En los Globos de Oro sólo fue nominada a Mejor Película y olvidada en el resto de categorías. Que pena que buenas películas como estas no tengan el reconocimiento que se merecen cuando los que dirigen los premios se decantan por películas dudosas, pero si siguen el discurso político que quieren imponer. Dejando a un lado realmente películas impactantes, como este thriller llamado 5 de septiembre.

Basado en hechos reales que en el pasado han sido tratados en otras películas. El fatídico atentado terrorista del grupo palestino Septiembre Negro, en el que murieron once atletas israelíes en los Juegos Olímpicos de Munich de 1974. Un suceso fatídico y desastroso en las páginas de la historia, peor ahora Hollywood está lleno de gente a la que no le gusta recordar los horrores de la historia cuando no conviene a sus intereses.

Lo interesante del 5 de septiembre es el punto de vista desde el que se cuenta la historia. Todo se desarrolla desde el punto de vista de los periodistas deportivos de la ABC, que estaban retransmitiendo los Juegos Olímpicos vía satélite. Era un acontecimiento increíble, la primera vez que se utilizaba la transmisión por satélite para que el mundo viera los Juegos Olímpicos y, al mismo tiempo, sería la primera vez que se retransmitiría en directo por televisión un atentado terrorista.

¿Qué es más importante: informar con veracidad, sin censura, o proteger el dolor de las familias? Es un debate que abre la historia. Los periodistas hacen su trabajo. Su deber como periodistas es informar de la verdad. El morbo, conocer los detalles, eso es lo que buscan siempre los telespectadores. ¿Es más importante el rating que la vida de las víctimas? Hoy sigue siendo un tema que puede dividir opiniones. El dilema moral del periodista, la gran carga que tiene en sus manos de informar, corroborar la información y decir la verdad, aunque sea una muy mala noticia que incluso puede afectarle emocionalmente.

The interests of sponsors, the desire to be the first, to give the scoop. The rivalry between colleagues specialized in an area of journalism who claim to have the right to be in charge of the information. The pace is enveloping. Necessary in a thriller like this, where almost everything develops from the center of the transmission. It is one of the achievements of the director and of course the editor. I thought the editing was incredible, it deserved to be nominated in that category. I don't know about the production, but there are scenes that seem to have been shot with several cameras and at first glance I didn't find any editing mistakes, as happens in most films.

Fascinating is the work of Swiss Tim Felhbaum, a filmmaker whose fiction film The Colony I saw and reviewed a couple of years ago. September 5 is so far his best film. It kept me hooked throughout the film and I found it amazing how he achieves that atmosphere of tension. The phone calls with those archaic phones that young people have never seen in their lives. The big, heavy TV cameras, the way the graphics and broadcast centers, which we were used to seeing in the past, make us feel a bit nostalgic.

A sensational cast brings credibility to the story. They are all perfect. Nothing to reproach any of them. How not to nominate any of these actors? It's really a tremendous injustice. Peter Sarsgaard, Ben Chaplin, John Magaro, Leonie Benesch and Zinedine Soualem are the cast that brings to life the protagonists of this mostly German production, because the film has that nationality.

The texture and photography of the film also stand out to set the scene of the early 1970s. Thirty years had not yet passed since the end of World War II and West Germany was still fresh from the scars and wounds of that horror.

Los intereses de los patrocinadores, el deseo de ser el primero, de dar la primicia. La rivalidad entre colegas especializados en un área del periodismo que pretenden tener el derecho a encargarse de la información. Todo esto es muy importante en el momento de un suceso horrible emitido pro television. El éxito y el fracaso que depende de tomar la decisión correcta, donde si te dejas llevar por las emociones puedes cometer graves errores. Cosas que bien pueden empujarte a hacer algo que viole alguna norma, pero lo principal es dar la noticia.

El ritmo es envolvente. Necesario en un thriller como éste, donde casi todo se desarrolla desde el centro de la transmisión. Es uno de los logros del director y por supuesto del montador. El montaje me pareció increíble, merecía estar nominado en esa categoría. No sé la producción, pero hay escenas que parecen haber sido rodadas con varias camaras y a primera vista no encontré ningún error de montaje, como ocurre en la mayoría de las películas.

Fascinante es el trabajo del suizo Tim Felhbaum, un cineasta cuya película de ficción La colonia vi y reseñé hace un par de años. 5 de septiembre es hasta ahora su mejor película. Me mantuvo enganchado durante toda la película y me pareció increíble cómo consigue esa atmósfera de tensión. Las llamadas telefónicas con esos teléfonos arcaicos que los jóvenes no han visto en su vida. Las grandes y pesadas cámaras de televisión, la forma de hacer los gráficos y los centros de transmisión, que estábamos acostumbrados a ver en el pasado, nos hacen sentir un poco nostálgicos.

Un reparto sensacional aporta credibilidad a la historia. Todos están perfectos. Nada que reprochar a ninguno de ellos. ¿Cómo no nominar a alguno de estos actores? Es realmente una tremenda injusticia. Peter Sarsgaard, Ben Chaplin, John Magaro, Leonie Benesch y Zinedine Soualem son el reparto que da vida a los protagonistas de esta producción mayoritariamente alemana, porque la película tiene esa nacionalidad.

La textura y la fotografía de la película también destacan para ambientar el inicio de la década de los setenta. Aún no habían pasado treinta años desde el final de la II Guerra Mundial y Alemania Occidental aún tenía frescas las cicatrices y heridas de aquel horror.

Emocionante. Potente. Un thriller que merece la pena disfrutar. Lo recomiendo. En mi top de lo mejor del año pasado. Cuéntame tu opinión en los comentarios.
