Konnichiwa minna-san~ Yesterday, I finished an anime that has been on my to-watch list for quite a long time. I almost finished it before, but then I got busy with my medications, so somehow I left and forgot about it. Like the first time I watched it, I really felt so much familiarity with the plot and characters. The feelings and emotions that I felt before all came back to me.
It's like I'm taken back to my high school days when I was naive and hopeful and where everything seemed to be nerve-wracking and exciting. It's a tough journey—I failed and got embarrassed a lot of times, but like the FMC, I dusted myself up and moved forward. So now be with me as I share with you a brief peek at the life of a girl who's spun her wheels and messed up, but found a wonderful place, wonderful things, and wonderful people that she loves in Skip and Loafer.
About the Anime
Skip and Loafer is a seinen anime that premiered in the spring of 2023. It aired from April 4, 2023, to June 20, 2023. It's a drama anime that was animated by P.A. Works. Since the characters were mostly high schoolers, its theme obviously revolves around school, and also it's a slice-of-life with a tinge of romance. This 12-episode anime was based on the manga that was written and illustrated by Misaki Takamatsu.
To achieve her noble goal for her hometown, Mitsumi Iwakura leaves the peaceful Ishikawa Prefecture to attend her studies in the fast-paced city of Tokyo. With her great dreams and love for learning, she's definitely confident that moving into Tokyo wouldn't be that hard—or so she thought. Despite having confidence and plans, in the face of the bustling city, she got lost. Caught in the morning rush and crowd sickness—she leans dejectedly on the station's wall with her high hopes slowly disappearing. However, it seems that fate still favors her at that time because Shima Sosouke, a first-year student who attends the same school as her offers to go with her.
She thought that her misfortunes ended at the train station, but unfortunately, it didn't. Her misfortunes further led her to have a bad first impression in front of her new teachers and classmates, but that didn't stop her from picking her pace and trying to make her day better. With a new environment and people, she's bound to experience the hardships of fitting in. Tokyo is sure a fast and busy city, and Mitsumi certainly needs to keep up with it to reach her great goals. She may stumbled down and messed up, but she surely would get back up and skip her way towards the people who care for her.
I thought I still had a long way to go to finish this anime, but upon rewatching it, I realized that where I stopped watching it is just so close to its season's end. Maybe I got really impatient waiting on the new eps or the pacing did somehow bore me at some point (I watched it after I finished watching OPM, so I'm not surprised that the pacing somehow didn't bode well for me) and so I dropped it. Nevertheless, after rewatching it, I can really say I've enjoyed it. Since its pacing is quite slow, 'of course, there are tranquil and almost boring parts, but setting that aside it felt nice watching it.
The MC was definitely not your typical shy and mostly helpless one. Mitsumi is really a quirky and likable character—I thought she'd be the one who'd have challenging personal battles, but I was wrong! She's a character that totally doesn't need improvement because she's fine the way she is. She's awkward and even oblivious most of the time, but she's really a good judge of character. So much for praising the ever-green flag FMC, her opposite is her potential love interest—Shima.
Visually, he is pleasing but that aside, I think he's the type of boy I don't want to fall in love with. Ok, ok don't judge me yet, but I do find him nice, gentlemanly and kinda a friend material, but there's an air of negativity I felt upon seeing his character for the first time. And it turns out I'm right because he's definitely someone that needs character improvement and if you wanted to know if he did get the improvement he need, then try watching it! As for other characters, I can say that this one is indeed a slice-of-life because the characters are pretty much like my classmates way back then, and watching them do high school stuff does bring back both the good and embarrassing memories—ahhhhh I'm really getting old~
I thought that this anime would be shoujo or pure romance anime, but it turns out that it's a seinen anime?! Its art style really screams romance—from the light colors to cute character designs. The sceneries that were featured there were sure lovely—especially the ones that were from Mitsumi's hometown. The color palette that they mostly used matches well with the lightheartedness of the story. Just like its pacing, there were times that I found the movement of the characters sluggish to the point I thought my phone was lagging. Nevertheless, I like how they portrayed each character's expression. Their art style wasn't that detailed, but it showed their emotions well.
Its soundtrack was nice and as heartwarming as the anime. The background music and sounds at the beginning really evoke a nice amount of nostalgia in me. Also, I remembered that its opening song has that dance part become well known. They're really cute and wholesome to watch—especially the part where they're dancing to the beat of its opening. The ending song was pretty laid-back and somehow forgettable for me, but anyway it's somehow fit for ending each episode.
Overall, my rating for this anime is 8.5/10. This anime is a breath of fresh air for me because of how laid-back and wholesome it is. It didn't have heavy and serious conflicts, so most of the time I was in a good mood while watching it (except those times I was somehow annoyed with Egashira or irked with Ririka). I was kinda expecting more romance, so there's indeed a tinge of disappointment in me when I didn't get it much of it, but anyway I know season two will really sate that yearning of mine (thanks to spoilers I voluntarily discovered, I now know that there will be a significant improvement in the bleep-bleep-bleep!—secret...I know you know and I know I'm oversharing so just ignore me). So if you're up for something lighthearted and entertaining slice-of-life anime, then this review is definitely you're sign to watch Skip and Loafer.
Before I end this review, I'll share with you its opening song, so—
Have you seen this anime before? Or is this your first time encountering it? If you have thoughts about it feel free to share it in the comments. That's all for now, minna-san! I hope you enjoyed reading my review.

Hello everyone, I hope you are feeling great this time... I want to talk about an anime that I really liked. It was released relatively recently, and I wanted to share it with you to give it a chance, today I'm going to talk about the anime Skip and Loafer. It's one of those anime that grabs you little by little... it's not a story full of action or fantastic elements. It's a story of everyday life that, in essence, is a love letter to the little interesting moments that life can bring us... it focuses on those moments that make you stop and just appreciate the simple things. The story begins by introducing us to Mitsumi, a doe-eyed and very ambitious girl, who has traded the tranquility of her small rural town to move to the city of Tokyo and attend her new high school.. this protagonist is no ordinary small town girl, she has big dreams, aspiring for a future in the Ministry of Internal Affairs to help revitalize the more rural communities..
She has a plan and sticks to it constantly, however, like anyone who has set foot in a big city for the first time, things don't always go according to plan... Mitsumi has an unshakable confidence in herself, but for different situations she gets completely lost in the labyrinth that is the subway system in Tokyo... I think we are portrayed a classic fish out of water moment that marks the beginning of her journey. Just when she doesn't know what to do and is very distressed, a charming guy named Shima steps in to help her, this guy is the epitome of effortless coolness...he is super laid back, kind hearted. He is the typical boy who seems to effortlessly navigate through life and all the chaos of the city, despite their quite different personalities, this little interaction begins to form a bond between these two students.
Now, if you're expecting a spectacular romance from the beginning, this is not at all the case. This anime is characterized by taking its time, allowing the relationship between Mitsumi and Shima to blossom organically. It's a slow cook, a testament to the power of a genuine connection over forced physical attraction. As their friendship deepens, we are introduced to a colorful cast of characters who add their own unique flavors to the mix of this story. We have Mika, the girl who is the embodiment of a popular girl or who tries to be popular and has an excellent sense of fashion, who initially sees Mitsumi as a means to get closer to her true goal, which is Shima. Then there's Yuzuki, the naturally beautiful girl who often feels misunderstood... and lastly, we have the shy, intelligent girl that many might consider the bookworm, who finds it very difficult to connect with others.
The protagonist, with her unfiltered honesty and warmth, impacts each of these characters, acting as a kind of catalyst for growth and ends up encouraging those around her to embrace their true selves and challenge their preconceived notions. She's a very intelligent and empathetic girl who teaches us through her relationships to see beyond superficial appearances, to not always be on guard, or can also inspire us to step out of our comfort zone. Mitsumi's presence alone is like a breath of fresh air that makes you feel good, and although she may seem naive on many occasions, I believe her character is also complex in a way.
The anime beautifully portrays all her awkward moments and inner thoughts; one can connect with her occasional slip-ups and all the vulnerability she can feel when in an environment she's not used to, but an environment she wants to embrace and understand. I think that's precisely what makes her feel incredibly relatable. She's capable of giving an impeccable speech one minute, appearing to have a lot of confidence, and then tripping over her own feet the next moment. All of this makes her so human that it's impossible not to become fond of her.
What I like most about this story is its simplicity. While I consume some slice-of-life anime, few manage to truly captivate me, and I found this one very interesting. It's not trying to reinvent anything or bombard you with exaggerated drama to keep you hooked. Instead, it finds its strength in the ordinary, reminding us that sometimes the most profound moments are found in everyday things. Visually, the anime reflects exactly that sense of simplicity; the animation style is clean, focusing on subtle expressions and character interactions, but nothing too exaggerated. The color palette is soft and cozy, creating a warm and comforting atmosphere that draws you in. It doesn't try to dazzle you with spectacular animation; it simply presents animation that's there to serve its purpose.
I think many of you, if you give it a chance, can perceive genuine emotions and become truly moved by these simple things - whether it's a sincere moment of friendship, a silent reflection on life's complexities, or a comic scene that makes you laugh. The anime has the gift of touching your heart without needing to make the protagonists cry senselessly; it's a story that leaves you with a warm and pleasant feeling after you've finished it. Although some episodes are a bit dramatic, you don't feel that the pace unnecessarily accelerates. It's easy to identify with that feeling of being thrown into a new environment, surrounded by unfamiliar faces but with a desire to make the most of youth - and doing so in a city, I think, can inspire many, whether young or old, to want to see life through different eyes.
Skip and Loafer perfectly captures the feeling of not knowing exactly what's going on but wanting to enjoy it to the fullest. It teaches us that it's okay to make mistakes and stumble along the way, and reminds us how comforting growth during a journey can be. It shows that what's important in the end is not the destination but the journey we're going through and all the ways we're growing, always having within us that willingness to learn and want to be better. I think I give it a rating of 8.5/10.
It's a charming and touching anime that celebrates the simple joys of everyday life, the power of genuine connection, and the importance of embracing your true self. It's an interesting change of pace from the often exaggerated nature of many other anime. They offer us a story you can identify with and that's for all ages. Well, I hope you liked this review. I'll leave the opening for you down below. We'll see each other in future reviews. Take care. Bye bye.
Bye bye.

Another Slice of Life Banger
Today I’m going to be talking about the anime Skip and Loafer (Skip to Loafer in Japanese). So I started watching it because I somehow found it on my laptop. I think being in a desi family and my laptop also being used by my sister (who's 25 years old now, and I have no idea how sisters grow up so fast!), I found it downloaded there, so I decided to give this anime a try out of nowhere. And yes that's the best kind of start, with zero expectations or no prior insights.
The Opening Song
I’m a sucker for the openings and endings of anime, and some of them stick to me and hit me to my core, jpop can be very deep if you take it like that. But since this was a slice-of-life anime, the opening was slow-paced, and it had the characters casually dancing to the beat, the opening was very fitting for the anime, but it wasn't my type, so after watching it once, I skipped it for the rest of the anime.
Barefoot running on the road
The anime starts with your typical real-life setting, the countryside Mitsumi is moving to Tokyo for her high school and she is determined to have the best first day ever, she goes for the entrance ceremony but not knowing much, she gets lost at the subways station and is helped by her classmate which she will soon find out is in her class, a blonde guy Shima-kun. Shima-kun, as carefree as he is, when they are both late for the entrance ceremony, witnesses Mitsumi take off her shoes and socks, and make a run for it, as if her life depends on it. Being carefree, He is impressed by the effort she puts in for just the entrance ceremony, and he ends up being motivated enough to decide to enjoy his high school life too.
The Simplicity Hidden in Plain Sight
I had no expectations for this anime but watching Mitsumi and Shima, who embark on a simple journey in highschool, making friends along the way, staying positive during the ups and downs, casually interacting with each other and hanging out, overcoming small differences without any judgment, to slowly falling for each other, it is all so wholesome.
To Be and to Let Be
The beauty of this anime lies in how Shima and Mitsumi naturally enjoy their time and choose the best from the options they have. Mitsumi has a loving family back home and is simple-minded and just nice, her genuineness attracts people and she can make nice friends in high school too. Watching Shima and Mistsumi enjoy their high school life and study together too, takes you back to the good old times.
If You Wanted To, You Would
At first, I thought, here we go, the boring life of another character and another cliche anime, but after watching how well the main character Mitsumi is, and how her style contrasts so well with Shima’s style and vibe, I got reeled in their daily life. Before long I realized, I’ve been the type of person who would rather stay at home and be introvert, and I realized I hadn’t made many school or college memories, but watching this anime, I realized, it's never too late to start, I can enjoy the simple things in life, simply by choosing to put effort in them, by leaving my comfort zone, and so I decided to join a badminton club and fund my group too.
Relating to the Main Leads
One of the best things about slice-of-life anime is that you can relate to everything since its all real-life things, and so I was able to relate with both of the main leads so much. The genuine and naive personality of Mitsumi, who always stands by what she thinks is right and goes for it without hesitation, and the carefree and aloof attitude of Shima, behind which he hides his own set of problems and puts on a puppy-like smile regardless, it is all very relatable for me at so many levels. Watching something you relate with well, I think its the essence of enjoying a show or anime.
The Eccentric Aunt
The anime features some unique characters, like Mitsumi’s aunt whom she lives with in Tokyo (no she doesn’t live in a hostel which might be the general assumption), she is a very nice lady, but basically, she is biologically a male, and when she cross-dresses as a guy, it all makes more sense lol, and then there are Mitsumi’s friends, each one of them has their charms and their problems, what you call a ‘type’. So, the characters are all intriguing enough.
Left with a Positive Light
To all the anime fans out there, I hope you give this anime a try, like most slice-of-life anime it's a bit slow-paced, but I believe it is definitely worth it, and who knows, it might motivate you to kickstart your hobbies too and have a good time, and if not, then you will still end up watching something wholesome. It only has 12 episodes and I finished it in one sitting as usual. I hope you enjoy this elegant work of art, and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
›Romance, amistad y lecciones de vida. Mi opinión sobre Skip & Loafer✨❤️ || Romance, friendship and life lessons. My opinion about Skip & Loafer✨❤️@eldiariodelys1087d
¡Feliz inicio de semana, gente linda de Hive!❤️
Happy start of the week, beautiful people of Hive!❤️
Today I'm back to share with you my opinion about an anime✨🤭 The truth is that incredibly I've already seen too many, therefore, I have a very long list (which is getting longer and longer) of anime to review, because without a doubt it is one of my favorite topics.
This time I want to talk about Skip & Loafer, a story created by Misaki Takamatsu, which became one of the most popular anime during the spring season. With a mix of slice of life (which I recently discovered its existence) and shōjo genre, Takamatsu offers us a mature, romantic and original plot, which allows us to reflect on life, personal growth, and the difficulty of finding our place in the world💖
SINOPSIS || SYNOPSIS
Mitsumi Iwakura is a foreign student who arrives in the big city of Tokyo to start high school, also looking for the opportunity to fulfill her dream. Intelligent, kind, naive and innocent, Mitsumi will try to adapt to life in the city and the interaction with her peers in a large high school, because despite being an excellent student, nothing prepares you for the overwhelming transition to adulthood.
To reach her goal of holding political office to help her beloved town prosper, she will have to overcome different challenges, but with the help of true friends, including Sousuke Shima, a relaxed and nice guy who will help Mitsumi find calm, anything can be possible.
Skip & Loafer is visually beautiful, with its pastel tones and nice drawings, it gives us a story full of the complexities of being a teenager becoming an adult, but at the same time, it doesn't stand out for drama or exaggerated situations, on the contrary, it's a fresh and relaxing anime, which makes you feel good just by watching it. It presents several very important and interesting themes, and I consider that it covers them in the best way; besides, it does have its romantic moments that are precious, full of tenderness and emotion.
The characters are varied, different from each other, and the anime seeks to explain the importance of tolerating the differences of others, to love people as they are and to accompany them at all times. Accepting that we all have our own way of seeing the world, that sometimes we are right, and sometimes we are wrong. We see some very nice bonds of friendship.
As I already mentioned, during each episode different very important themes were developed, which are explained in a comprehensive and intelligent way. There is the pressure of every good student, that desire to maintain high grades, the indecision of studying or going out to have fun, the fear during exam time, and the insecurity in interactions with other classmates. That desire to excel and be involved in everything, but not have time for anything. It's not easy being a student.
In addition, there are the problems of each protagonist. I don't want to spoiler, so I'll spare some details. But Shima had a complicated childhood, and that ghost still haunts him. Mitsumi wants to fight to save her village, people are abandoning it to live in the city since they have no opportunities there, causing its abandonment. From female characters who have bigger aspirations than just "finding a boyfriend" and leave us with good lessons, to the insecurity and confusion we may feel about who we are and what we will do with our lives. Experiences that many of us can go through.
She is a protagonist with whom we can easily sympathize. She has big goals for her life, and she knows what she has to do to achieve them. Mitsumi is not stopped by anyone or anything. She is kind and very intelligent, but not perfect, and during the story she makes some mistakes due to her clumsiness, teaching us that it's normal to make mistakes, and it's those experiences that leave us with the greatest lessons. Mitsumi is strong, and she has that need to protect her loved ones. However, she must learn that she cannot do everything alone, that we need company and support, and also moments to rest.
He is relaxed, kind, transparent, knows how to handle the situation, and supports Mitsumi from the first chapter. Although he has those Golden Retriever vibes (and Mitsumi even compares him to her dog😂) the truth is that Shima hides a lot of things. He places the welfare of others above his own, he is not quick to trust people because of events in his past, he possesses a great talent but hides it, behind his smile and great charisma he hides his sadness, so Mitsumi is also valuable in his development, she helps him find his motivation again and understands him, and she is so natural that he never hesitates to trust her.
Mitsumi's two best friends, two polar opposites. Yuzu is popular, outgoing, and open, while Makoto is introverted and shy. At first Makoto was suspicious of Yuzu, not liking that bright "kind of girl", and rejected her friendship. She had her prejudices about blonde and popular girls. But Yuzu proved to be a genuine, kind and dedicated person to her friends, demonstrating the grave mistake Makoto was making. After a sincere apology, and zero rancor, they created a very nice friendship. Every introvert needs their extrovert, and vice versa.
Mika begins as the "antagonist" of the story, she can't stand Mitsumi's clumsiness and naivety. In addition, she envies the bond she has with Shima. At first, we see her as someone self-centered, who only cares about herself, but then we see that she is really a very insecure girl, she is self-doubting and has little self-respect. However, little by little, we see how she begins to develop a better attitude, learns about true friendships, support, and tolerance towards others. She has a good development.
On the other hand, there is Narumi (a character I like a lot), Mika's contrast, since Narumi knows very well who he is and what he wants in his life. With him, we learn the importance of recognizing our competencies and having confidence in ourselves, that despite having failed before, we can get up and keep going.
One of my favorite characters is Mitsumi's aunt, her legal guardian in Tokyo. Nao is a transgender character full of life, confidence, and security. Her personality is charming, I love the scenes when she and Mitsumi have their skincare and movie nights, when she helps her dress up for dates with her friends, she is that aunt who looks like a mother and has a special place in our lives. There are moments when we see how people whisper and talk bad when they see her, something very realistic (unfortunately) that happens every day, but Nao pays no attention to those comments, she accepts herself as she is, and knows that intolerant people are just people who have no love in their heart.
The voice performances are amazing, they aptly express the emotion of each scene, and even (even I) could notice how, at times, Mitsumi had a “camp accent”, it was noticeable in the voice and in the subtitles. The color palette changes depending on the moment, most of the time they are nice pastel colors that express joy, but when we see them change to darker, more powerful tones we know it's a bad time.
With this anime we witness different life lessons, our failures can be painful and disappointing, they can make us feel that we are useless and that we won't be able to succeed, but really those "failures" are a great source of motivation to move forward, to learn and overcome ourselves. This great factor, along with moments of comedy, youth romance development, and characters with good stories, makes me recommend this anime to you 💖
